Does the Des Plaines IL post office still deliver mail? The delivery of my mail is so sporadic I never know if I'll get the mail that appears in my daily Informed Delivery email. I've started asking the companies I'm supposed to get mail from to send information electronically. The PO delivers junk mail like clockwork, the important stuff gets lost or never arrives. I can't believe they're getting paid for doing nothing. It's not even possible to go online and report missing mail. Going into the post office on Oakton is a waste of time. Toxic rude and uncaring staff at this location. They make it very clear that A) they DON'T want to help you in any way. B) requests for assistance will be met with eye rolls, absolutely NASTY attitudes and barely any direction for next steps to solve what ever issue you may have. I feel bad for the few nice folks who actually have to work alongside these "employees". There is a kind and professional way to give your customers information. I came in to ship a package that was clearly labeled with multiple FRAGILE stickers. Despite that, the employee handling it threw it carelessly into a bin from across the room. I was honestly shocked. I took the time to mark it properly to avoid damage, and it was treated like it meant nothing. When I asked about it, I was met with attitude instead of concern. If this is how fragile items are handled, what's the point of labeling them at all? I'm now unsure if my package was damaged -- and that's unacceptable. Hire people who have personable people skills and know how to talk to customers in a pleasant and welcoming manner. The lady that works here forgets that she's in that position for us, the customers, not the other way around. The Post Office is known for hiring these ungrateful and rude people. Nothing has or will change. Last time coming here. The Post Office Management should read reviews and monitor their cameras so they can see how customers are treated. USPS do not deserve a single star! I got a package returned to the sender just because the sender made a mistake by putting street name first followed by the street number. You don't need to be a brain doctor to figure it out but this is an example of how unskilled the USPS workers are! They absolutely don't care about you or your packages! They don't give you any time to either correct the address or picking it up, they just send it back to the sender! Unbelievable and rude! read more

I put a hold on my mail, asking them to hold it until I got back and picked it up directly at the post office When I we to pick it up, they said they did not have it. They said that the post man should have delivered it. When I said that I had no mail delivered, they gave me attitude and said: whatever When I asked for a supervisor manager, they said they were not there It was 4 PM and that I should go the next day at 7 AM. I was there last week dropping off a parcel. The man at the counter was very friendly! Better than any PO worker I have seen in the past.

I've grown up in Des Plaines and I remember when the PO service was good. These last couple of years the service has changed. The people at the counter are lazy and they intentionally drag their feet and make you wait. After waiting a 20 min. for the 2 customers ahead of me to be served, I stepped up. I told the worker I was there to pick-up a package and I showed him my tracking number. He immediately told me to give him ID so I did. He disappeared in back for 15 min. He comes back to the counter and points to the automated shipping machine and tells me to enter the tracking number there. I told him I'm not shipping a package I'm simply there to pick-up and I don't know how to use the machine for that. He said he couldn't help me because now there were a lot of customers waiting. I ended up leaving without my package. I'll be filing a formal complaint. read more

Lady up front is always giving unwarranted attitude, trust me I work customer service and know how annoying customers can be especially when they give you a hard time but when a customer is giving you no type of attitude what is the reason to come at them with attitude? I was told by the clerk that she couldn't give me a separate receipt for 3 bubble envelopes. She told me she was alone and had a line (3 people behind me who walked in at the same time). I told her I would use the self-help machine which was not measuring the envelope as a package (she told me to select package). The prompts kept on asking or suggesting dimensions/shapes that didn't apply. So I asked her for help. She scoffed and told me to come back to the counter as I had done 10 minutes prior.... and proceeded to tell me (in front of other customers) that "I can leave if I'm going to act like that." All I said was we could have just done it at the counter the first time I stood in front of her. (Now there were 10 customers behind me.) I've honestly never had such ignorant customer service and this person should be replaced by someone who doesn't act like they're doing a favor to the customer by performing a simple task they're paid for. read more

The Postmaster reluctantly came out of his office and I told him that I was back from being out of town for several months and have not been getting any mail for a month so far. He told me to go look in my mail box. I told him I needed a new change of address card but he wouldn't give me one. Please Yelp, give us the opportunity to pick ZERO! I have never seen such unprofessional rude behavior! The man behind the counter was annoyed because I had a prepaid priority label. He told me it's only insured for $100.00. I called the company that mailed the label and they ensured me it was insured for the right amount. he then told me I have to "figure out" how to attach the label. It doesn't take a genius to tape it, but he didn't ask me if I would like to buy some tape! Walked around the lobby only to have to get in line to buy the tape. this time the woman behind the counter, no eye contact took my package from me. I started to ask "Do you know" and she interrupted No, I dont. i Asked her do you know my question? She said yes, how much it's insured. i said no, I want to know when will it get there if it's priority mail. She said no idea, you didn't purchase the label from us. I thought if the label says US postal service priority mail, it's purchased from them! she gave me my receipt and circled the bar code. I asked is that for tracking? She said no. That's it! No! I put on my glasses to see the fine print: customer survey. When I asked her name so I can take the survey, she said "Ain't got one" (No ID or name tag)I asked the man his name he said " I'm a big boy and I'm not afraid of you taki g a survey, my name is Mackey". I'm writing an official complaint. I forward my mail each year for three months when I go to Florida. I have done this for five years with little issues. This year I have gotten mail anyway on six occasions. I called in four times to complain and each time I'm told that they would pass on the information to the supervisor of my area. I was also told that sometimes a sub mailman doesn't pay attention. Perhaps you need a better system in place for subs. This is poor service. I now have to pay someone to go check my mail. If I put duck tape on my mail slot to prevent mail this could signal I'm not home and criminal activity. I hope you can help make your service better. read more

I wanted to have more faith in the post office, but this is so disappointing . Staff at desk is so unfriendly, but downright cold. I mailed something priority mail 2 to 3 day delivery and paid extra. It sat at the Des Plaines P.O. from June 27 at 8:28 am until June 29. Funny how all other post offices can move it along up to Wisconsin in one day. Now it will arrive to destination in 5 days if I'm lucky. PLEASE don't offer priority mail if you can't deliver!!!!!!!!!!! I'm so tired of excuses. My dad was a post man in Chicago for 30+ years and boy was it different back then. No excuses, EVER!!!!!! I would have been better off driving the darn mail to Wisconsin myself! Just so frustrated. Lately, nothing comes in time, we have had lost Wedding Invitations that cost us an extra 200 plus dollars to reorder 25 more because the post office lost them, we have had important documents that informed delivery show it should be in the mail, only to not show up! If there was an alternative to the mail I would surely use it. UPS is expensive, but I'm thinking the extra cash to put out is worth someone doing their job the way it was intended to be done! I have a cargo at the office, I give a Turkish ID. They don't accept it. The cargo belongs to me, but I can't receive my cargo. It has to be an American ID. What does it have to do with the cargo? I'm not a citizen. I don't have an American citizenship card. They don't help. read more

Lines can be really long, and it is hit or miss if you will wait eternally or speed thru. This is a full service post office and some transactions simply take longer than others. The staff is generally very nice and there are several clerks available at any given time. Plus, they have I think 3 auto postage stations so it is easier to skip the lines. Free parking but sometimes the lot gets crowded and some people drive stupid. read more

Here is the latest. Due to mail theft from the drop boxes in front of the post office, they are now stretch wrapped and inoperable so you must go inside and drop off your letter. I guess changing the locks and installing cameras is too impactable. Same situation in Park Ridge. read more

They could care less about you, your questions, or anything else for that matter, and they clearly show it. I had a simple passport question. I asked the guy and he literally stared at me and said nothing. I repeated my question and he struggled his shoulders. I rephrased my question and asked a third time. He offered me a brochure but he said that he didn't know where they were. Laughable. Just got back from there. I went in to mail 3 packages- came home with 2. They would only accept ONE of the packages. The other 2 they would not accept because it had duct tape on it even though I have been using that same roll of duct tape to mail packages for YEARS. As I was walking away she very rudely yelled MERRY CHRISTMAS and was laughing like a maniac. It was a tall black woman and a short Asian man. Both "helped" me. NO WONDER nobody uses the post office anymore. So glad my tax dollars are going to be treated like shit the once or twice a year I actually utilize the service. read more

I've had a lot of positive experiences here with the employees. My questions have always been answered promptly and correctly, the staff is generally very friendly, and it's very roomy. If you need to pack something on site before you ship it, the multiple tables come in handy. Some smaller post offices are pretty much impossible for this unless you sit on the floor, and there's hardly any room even for that. I got my passport here too, and didn't have any problems. Drawbacks: Leaving the parking lot can be a pain in the neck. Once in a while, the drive-by mailboxes get full at the end of the day, so you can't drop off last-minute mail in them. This is not a frequent occurrence in my experience, though. My husband is embroiled in a battle with Wayne, the postmaster here. There is an issue regarding a package shipped from Germany in January. It's now almost May and we can track the package from Chicago to Des Plaines, but beyond that, we have no idea what happened. Wayne appears to have no idea either but doesn't want to admit it. Multiple phone calls and other communications have yielded no info and a couple of offers to take a customer satisfaction survey. Um, no. Where is the package? Unless we want to pay for shipping from Europe again, we need to prove that the postal service misplaced it, and for that, we need Wayne to formally acknowledge something or other. Come on, dude! Find it for us or admit that it's lost. In general, this is where I go to mail or ship just about anything. The customer service on the regular level is great. For some nutty reason, it's just the higher-ups who fall short here. For most things, this branch is above average, though. read more

Arrived at 2:59 on Saturday 7/11/20 . The gate was a still open enough to walk under . I walked in since the office closes officially at 3pm . The older lady working with blond hair and name that starts w a C or S started yelling at my in front of 2 customers ahead of me . One was still writing a label at the counter area . The lady said the office is closed and I can't walk under the gate .. I said i have a small package already ready to ship just need a receipt. She said no . She didn't not want to help me and was extremely rude and unpleasantly unprofessional. Then she said a customer is ahead of me but that customer clearly wasn't ready . At this point my phone clock turned 3pm . I said please and handed her the package and showed her my phone that it just turned 3pm . She took the package , weighed it and said I can't accept this there is not enough postage its 6oz not 5oz. I said 1oz is not going to change the price . But I will pay for the difference. She said no I'm not taking the package. I told her was going to call her manager and I started walking out . Luckily I waited a minute because her manager arrived at the gate . I told him the situation in front of her .. he confronted her about it and all she did was complain about me coming in when the gate was nearly closed . he took my package and said he would take care of it. Side note - another lady came in after me . Did the same thing I did and walked under the gate. She was being helped by the lady without any issues ..at this point it was 3:04pm . read more

I can't believe what just happened to me...I'm shipping off a package to a friend that's in the military and stationed in Germany. They told me the box was too big so I can either pay for the $4 extra charge for the box or switch it out for a smaller box and it's free for the flat rate shipping. They never said anything to me about tape so they're watching me pull apart my box and move it to another box then Rey D tells me I need to pay for tape which is $3.50! I told you I told you you had to pay for tape he kept saying that never came out of his mouth! While my friends in the military serving our country and you can't give me a little piece of tape to tape up the top of the box..... I could have left my gift in the original package. Explanation that they never got email. Seriously for 15 years, every year you did not get request. I was a witness when they refused to take pregnant lady first - ready to deliver - 90 degrees outside, no air inside - because air was broken. She almost fainted and still had to stand in line for an hr - I was behind her - tried to say something and was yelled at. Poor women finally woke out after an hr wait. No no respect at all. I agree with Adi, this post office is the best! Maybe it is my coming from Chicago where people tend to not be as friendly. Every single visit to this facility all clerks were knowledgable and PLEASANT - best ever post office experience - Park Ridge being a second. I also want to give a shout out to the small one on Lee Street (only open weekdays) that also gives incredibly friendly and fast service. Beware, the exit from the parking lot is dangerous and is an awfully low dip. read more

The service of USPS is terrible. I haven't been to many locations but I've waited to receive multiple packages from senders who use USPS and every single package has been late. I was suppose to receive a package yesterday. On the 19th it supposedly left a facility about 13 hours away. It has been four days and still is in transit from that facility. I needed the package before tomorrow. I will continue to write my review on every location till I get recognized. All my packages have been between one to nine days late from locations that should take less than a day to get here. I do not recommend using this postal service. I have not been able to speak to an actual representative in weeks. I have emailed and called customer service and have gotten zero replies other than a confirmation email of my case. Then without being contacted said they resolved my issue with no questions asked. The locations I have been to had terrible customer service. The employees were rude. I am currently waiting for a call from an actual representative. My packages sent through UPS have gotten here on time or earlier. This is unacceptable. Also, the tracking history hasn't been accurate. I've had a package leave one facility just to be dropped back off at the facility. Either they don't know how to follow a gps or there's something else wrong with this postal service. read more

Holy guacamole are the lines long here! 3/5 because there are always two staff people working, yet they move slower than molasses. Thankfully it's just as easy for me to visit the Mt. The little self serve kiosk is the best and always working which makes shipping a breeze. The parking lot out front makes it easy to be in and out in a snap.
