    Close up of mural

This small post office is hanging on strong, located smack in the middle of downtown Lake Worth, where pedestrians abound. When I lived downtown, I walked here all the time. There is no parking lot associated with this location, but you can park on Lucerne Ave directly in front of it, on J street adjacent to it, or across the street in the tiny municipal lot. The building is charming from the outside- is it historic? Not sure, but it was built in 1940. Inside, be sure to check out the mural on the west side of the lobby. According to this article (http://featured.blog.palmbeachpost.com/2015/08/27/hidden-treasures-the-new-deal-post-office-art-of-palm-beach-county/), it's a 1946 mural painted as part of the New Deal, entitled, "Settler Fighting Alligator from Rowboat," by Joseph D. Meyers. I recently popped in here at ten til closing on the Wednesday before Christmas and I was out only a few minutes after 5. Thanks! Lake Worth is (proudly!) home to more than a few eccentrics, and the woman in front of me was no exception. A patient, calm, kind postal employee guided this over-anxious patron through some stress-reducing breathing techniques in order to help her complete her transaction. I watched this scene unfold before my eyes under the snarling alligator mural; what an authentically quirky Lake Worth moment!

I've dealt with three individuals who work here. One of them is exceptional. Unfortunately, he doesn't make up for the other two. They're abrupt, rude, disinterested, and just want you out of their purview ASAP. If I start naming them or describing them, I'm sure the next inference will be that I am racist or whatever. So we'll just avoid that altogether. I don't care what someone looks like nor do I care with their genetic lineage is. I judge on performance. If there are cameras at this location, I would recommend having a look at some of the client / staff interactions... If I was a supervisor, and if I cared. Which of course really--no one does. Except maybe for the dude who does work here and takes his job seriously. If I had a big business and could hire him, I would grab him for pretty much any position because I trust him. He's smart, efficient, polite and helpful. The only thing that the usual USPS staff care about, is a formal complaint being lodged because that goes on their record and could cause them headaches. Other than that, it's one giant joke. Our tax dollars pay for their lousy service and they make us eat it, as they metaphorically spit in our face while we get served. No pun intended.

I ordered Halloween costumes from Amazon and for some strange reason our mail came, but the costumes did not. After many calls, I was told that they were being held here. Today was a very different story. I went in to buy a mailer envelope and mail a very small item And it became a very big deal. I was being helped by a man named Sib. I don't think it was his first day but it sure seemed like it. First, he asked me what my ZIP Code was, but it's sitting there on the return address. Then he asked me what the ZIP Code was that it's going to because he couldn't read it. I told him what it was and he still got it wrong. When I got the bill, it sounded like too much money so I looked at it and sure enough there was a four dollar charge that he said he didn't know how it got there. So then he tried to give me a refund for it, but didn't know how to do that. And he tried to re-ring the entire thing up and he didn't know how to do that. He called for his colleague, Hella. She was very little help and then left him alone to finish it. Needless to say I was not a happy camper. This was supposed to take all of 6 to 7 minutes. Admittedly, I was getting frustrated and it was apparent. However, then, Hella decided to join in the fun and she ranted and raved for I don't know how long but she wouldn't stop and she said he won't help you and I won't help you either. So I asked for a manager he came out and she wouldn't even do what he was telling her to do. So rather than fight with her, he just went back to the other guy and he did it while the manager stood there to finish the job. The manager was rolling his eyes at her and had zero control of her behavior. My item is mailed and I will find another post office for the next time. This was truly a negative experience. I do thank the manager for helping and I am sorry that he has to work with such incompetence.
