This post office location is fine, but it's easy to tell it's old and has been run down and in disrepair for many years. There are never more than 1-2 people working, so the lines can get long, and you may have to wait a prolonged time even for something that should be extremely quick and simple. They don't have anything you can use, including pens, so be sure to come completely prepared with everything you will need for your transaction. (I will add they have let me borrow a pen before, but I had to wait in line to be able to ask for it, then I had to step out of line to use it, and then wait through line again to perform my transaction and return the pen - though it took me only seconds to write what I needed, they would not allow me to do it at the desk.) They do not have any pens at the counters, and I have noticed recently they do not leave out anything - no certified mail items, no packaging items, etc. You have to wait through line and ask for everything. Because I work downtown I have visited this post office many times, but it's definitely not my favorite location in the city. Just the worst. Going to the post office shouldn't be like going to the DMV. An exercise in frustration. The old woman who rules the Post office at this location is rude, condescending and unprofessional. She also doesn't know what she's doing. She should retire. The hours are speculative. They allegedly open at 0900 and here it is, 10am and it's still closed. They take long, Spanish style siestas as well. Go literally anywhere else. A mailbox on the street would be better than this branch. And you'd get the same kind of help and answers from questioning an inanimate object as you would from the staff here. The older woman is the one in particular who helped me in my most recent transaction, returning an item to a retailer. They sent me a FedEx label to attach to my return with instructions to drop it off either at a FedEx location or....*OR* at a local USPS location. Since this location is geographically convenient for me, I decided to give them a try. But I also attempted to cover all my bases. When I brought in my prepaid shipment for return, I spoke to the woman and asked her specifically if it was possible for me to send it from their location. She said yes and when I asked if a number on the label was the tracking number, she said yes to that too as well as printing a receipt with a USPS tracking number. She physically took the package from my and tossed it in the big mail container. Now, it is two weeks later, and I have yet to receive my refund from the return. And that is because both tracking numbers indicate that the package never left the Louisville facility. When I went to ask them about, at the office that handled my transaction, the SAME WOMAN who helped me the first time told me that it was a FedEx package and USPS never handles shipments for FedEx. She questioned me about when I brought it in and who on Earth would have handled this for me?! I informed her than in fact SHE had been the one to process the package. She was incredulous and said that SHE would NEVER have processed ANYTHING that said FedEx on it. I showed her the tracking information from both FedEx and USPS when I found the receipt and she still denied her or the office even taking the package. I returned later and talked to the other employee, and older gentleman, who looked at the receipt and handed it back to me and just told me several times that they have no control over the mail, not even the pieces of mail that they literally physically handle, and although the tracking says it is STILL at the location I brought it to, my only option now is to contact the retailer. He also never looked it up, made no attempts to try and find any answer or resolution and just dismissed me. I don't appreciate being dismissed and made to feel like I have made a terrible mistake, when I went out of my way to confirm everything I was doing was correct and do-able. Last fall I helped a friend mail tens of national and international 'Save the Date' cards followed by just as many wedding invitations, of which were mailed during the high stress holiday season. I was relieved, but not surprised, when my gf updated me that all cards and invites found their way safely to the intended recipients. I'm here quite regularly and have always received excellent customer service. If anything some times the clerks are too chatty, which seems to annoy customers in a time crunch. The clerks are efficient and happy to not only walk customers through the shipping options and services but also share the plethora of stamps available - and help you make your critical stamp decision. This location is ideal for downtown's movers and shakers. read more

I hate leaving bad reviews, I almost didn't say anything. But I feel honesty is the best policy. :) I don't like USPS, any branch. That being said, this one is pretty bad. There are a few staff members that are incredibly rude, however there are also some nice ones. The lines are generally very long and most of the time there is one person working the window which is silly to me considering the amount of traffic this location sees. Unfortunately for this floundering organization, I can see why they are struggling to remain afloat in a competitve market. I'm not a big fan. read more

The USPS store at Fourth Street Live is close to my work, so I am there rather frequently. I've never had to wait more than 2 or 3 minutes in line. Although I have heard if you go during lunch the line can be rather long, but I would expect that with any place downtown at lunchtime. I would not give any stars if I did not have to. So,so rude. Any USPS worker I have had to deal with in downtown Louisville Ky is so rude & miserable. In 4yrs I have lived here, I have encountered 2..TWO- pleasant people from the post office since Ive moved here. Shame on you. We didn't force you to work anywhere & you don't owe me a smile but you don't have to be so down right nasty. From the carriers to the people in the actucal office. Worst part about this state for me so far. VERY unimpressed. I only get my packages half the time & get my head bit off when I question my "delivered" package. I normally just feel bad for people naturally so angry or miserable but you all deal with my purchases & bills. No one likes their money played with.
