Avoid this business if you value anything you own. I genuinely do not understand how they are still operating. On September 8, my 89-year-old mother brought her $3,000 gold watch here for what she believed would be a routine repair. What followed were weeks of silence, constant phone problems, and zero accountability. You cannot reliably contact this business. The voicemail is usually full, making it impossible to leave a message, and phone calls routinely go unanswered. By November 3, my mother was preparing to drive there in person to ask about the estimate because no one would answer the phone. To stop her from doing that, I began calling on her behalf and could not even leave a message because the voicemail box was full. On November 4, I called at least seven times before finally getting through to voicemail. Hours later, they returned my call and claimed they had already left my mother a message with the repair quote. They had not. They looked up her paperwork and told me the repair would cost $700. I immediately declined and asked for the watch to be returned. After a pause, I was then told the original quote had been an "error" and the cost was actually $350. I again stated that we did not want the repair and wanted the watch back. Then we heard nothing for another week. On November 11, I left another message and also sent a text asking whether the watch was ready for pickup. The reply was simply: "The watch is ready for pick-up." So they had the watch and never contacted us to let us know. This is a $3,000 timepiece, not inexpensive costume jewelry. There is no excuse for this level of carelessness with someone else's property. We retrieved the watch and sent it directly to the manufacturer. The actual cost to fix it was $135. This business attempted to charge an elderly woman as much as $700 for a $135 repair. After reading other reviews here, it's clear this is not an isolated case. Brought my engagement ring in after the diamond had come lose. Martin lowered the setting just slightly (1/10mm) so the prongs would be more secure. They also polished it. It looks beautiful. I was skeptical leaving my ring with someone I never used (thinking they could switch out my diamond if they wanted to). I have a GIA diamond, so they even suggested I bring it somewhere else to have the numbers checked when it was finished. I did for my own peace of mind. No issues. I'd used them again. How do I give more than 5 stars? Legit jeweler and family owned business (for multiple generations) that really knows their stuff. Kind, honest, trustworthy. Eddie is awesome. My husband and I both have Ebel watches that required a battery change. Everywhere else I contacted quoted me an upwards of $100 for battery replacements on luxury Swiss watches (and I called at least 7 places). Eddie replaced batteries on 4 watches for anywhere between $12-$20 each, depending on the type of watch (Ebel and Michele watches). All while I waited (15 min). Bonus: I even found a setting I love for a stone I have while perusing the jewelry. I feel like today is my lucky day for having found this place. read more

What a nightmare experience. Took two vintage Breitling's into Utay Jewelry Center in mid January. I needed a polish for both watches, new crystal/plastic and spring bar replaced. After a week in the shop, they reached out and gave me a quote for both watches, and a two week time frame in which the watches would be complete... Here's where it gets fun. Two weeks went by, no word from Utay. I reached out and they informed me that it's been pushed until next week, and "they'll call me when it's ready." So I wait a week, and no response. I simply call to get an update, and they continue to say "it will be late this week, latest Friday." So I wait till Friday, and no call. So now we're on week four... I call on Tuesday, and explain that the watches have been in their possession for nearly 5 weeks(polish, spring bars and crystal replacement doesn't take that long... even for a vintage crystal replacement). They didn't apologize, but simply said it would be here this week. I told them that I am leaving for my Brother's wedding on Friday, one of the watches was going to be a gift. They assured me the watch would be at the store on Friday. Well, it never came on Friday. They never called to inform me, nothing. I went to the wedding, and had to tell my brother that my best man gift would arrive soon, but I didn't have it. Mind you, they're open on Saturdays, but I still didn't receive a call then. Throughout this process, I'd left four total voicemails, simply asking for a call back and an update, they never called me back. Two of the four were on that Friday after hours and early Saturday before they opened. So now we are on week five in the shop, nearly 6 weeks since I dropped off in the store. They finally called!!!! I went and picked up the watches on Tuesday and paid $270.00... They told me one of the watches was chrome plated, so it couldn't be polished. So at that amount, I guess I paid for spring bars to be replaced (probably $10 total), new crystal (actually plastic, figured for the era of watches, that was fine) and one of the watches polished. Seemed a little much, but I didn't really care. So after getting home, I started to inspect the watches. Opened up the spring bars, and noticed they were the same ones... never were replaced. Then I went under the light and noticed some scratches on the plastic crystal... I'm 99% sure they also didn't replace the crystal, and simply used some polywatch on both of them. I can't for certain prove that, but I called on Saturday this past weekend before they opened, simply asking for someone to reach out and call me, so I can get an explanation... you guessed it, they never called back. So here I am now, down $270 bucks with one watch polished, but everything else the exact same as it was nearly 2 months ago. read more

My experience with Utay Jewelry has been nothing short of a nightmare. When my fiancé proposed, I noticed the prongs on my ring were all a bit rough, but I was ecstatic to be engaged and figured they could just be buffed smooth. We now live in Chicago, so I went to a local jeweler here to get it resized a week after getting it and asked if they could buff the rough edges. They told me the prongs were worn down and needed to be replaced. I had only had my ring for a week, so I assumed they were trying to rip me off and I walked out of there. A few months later, I was visiting my parents in Michigan and went to my family's trusted jeweler and she also told me the prongs needed to be replaced and that it looked like the diamond was forced into an old mount. This time, I was able to use her magnifying glass to get a good look at the prongs and couldn't believe my eyes. All four of them were cracked and barely hanging on. Rather than having her fix it, I thought for sure it must be defective and Utay Jewelry would be happy to fix their mistake. After getting in touch with Eddie and sending photos, he told me it was normal wear and tear. I explained there was no way this is normal. I don't wear it in the shower, to bed, or to the gym and I have a desk job. If this is normal wear and tear, every woman would be replacing her engagement ring every six months. Not to mention, I noticed the prongs were defective the day I got it. After a lot of back and forth and, Eddie was very defensive and continued to blame "normal wear and tear." I wish I could give them 0 stars. I took a family heirloom, Swiss 18k watch to Utay to replace the crystal and reset the chronometer hand, which was not at the top. The watch was in perfect working condition. The owner Eddie Utay assured me he could fix it, and bragged that they repair Rolexes and watches worth tens of thousands of dollars. The watch says "Chronographe Suisse", but the owner said he thought it was a "Sussy" [sic] brand. This should have been a sign to leave and take it somewhere else. A couple of weeks later, they told me it was "fixed". When I picked it up, I asked them to replace the band, and while installing it, the owner broke some of the leeds that hold the band. I also noticed that the watch was not working at all. They assured me they would fix everything. I called a couple of times to inquire about status and each time the owner was short. The last time I called, he said he was too busy to discuss the repair, but said it was fixed and ready to be picked up again. When I went to pick up the watch, the owner was engaged in an unfriendly telephone conversation with some other party. Once again, the watch did not work. They refunded my money, and I told them that I would take the watch somewhere else to get it fixed since they broke it, and expected them to pay for the repair. The owner said they wouldn't pay to fix the watch they broke and then called me "disrespectful". Now about a month after I first brought the watch in, I have a broken watch, which I will have to take somewhere else. This watch repair location does not repair the watches on-site and sent my watch to some unidentified "watchmaker".
