This spot is a food truck bakery so definitely more of a to-go place, there are just a few chairs with string lights out front. They have a variety of European baked goods including cannolis, cream puffs, cookies, savory options and more. We ordered the Lobster tail with chocolate hazelnut cream which was massive, definitely would split between two people if not more if you're planning on trying other things on the menu! I had never heard of a lobster tail pastry before, but it was essentially two cones made of the most flaky and buttery croissants filled with cream and dusted with powdered sugar. Getting to the bottom of the croissant cone was like the amazing feeling of eating the end of a drumstick ice cream cone with chocolate. The croissant was perfect and stayed crispy even with all of the cream, though I probably wouldn't let it sit for too long in case it were to get soggy. I almost wished the ratio of croissant to cream was even higher because the croissant was so good (though the cream inside was quite delicious as well - overall sweet but not tooo sweet). We also snagged a couple of plain cannolis which had hints of lemon and were also delicious. Prices were reasonable and staff were friendly and took orders/prepared everything in a timely manner. Definitely a gem for Italian-European pastries and baked goods, and worth the drive to Apex.

I've been here several times since my original review and I've tried the Italian rum cake, chocolate chip walnut cookies, cheesecake, cannolis, lobster tail assorted Italian cookies and the eclairs. Everything we've tried has been beyond reproach! Service is top notch, everyone is so friendly and patient. Another reviewer commented how it reminded them of the bakery in the Virgin River show and it does! I love the vibes. This is definitely my favorite bakery.

Cute little spot! Make sure to come early because this place is hopping! We got the cannoli and chocolate eclair. Then while waiting in line, the owner came and gave everyone samples of the tiramisu.

"Virgin River" right here in Apex Fabulous place and pastries. We ordered a variety. Rum cake is delicious. We have not ate the rum ba ba yet nor the lobster tail. Will update when we do. We arrived on a Sunday around 2pm. No one in line. Not sure which way the line supposed to go. Viewing window to the right of place to order, but pick up window is the right of the viewing window.

Rum cake slices, Swiss & spinach quiche, mini strawberry pies, rainbow cookies, meatball parm stuffed bread, sflogliatelle & cannoli cream.

So happy that I found Utica a couple of years ago! Their pastures, cookies, cheesecakes, quiche, Italian bread, rum cake and so much more is authentic and delicious!! Their prices are great as well. Renee & Phil are so kind and love what they do. They also care about their customers. I've been in and out of the hospital the last 5 months and they would message me asking how I was doing.

The most authentic Italian pastries! Everything is amazing! My favorites bakery in the triangle!

Almond creme croissant, chocolate zucchini bread, and a day old pastry.

We came to this bakery for a snack because the reviews looked too good to ignore. The location is a picturesque trailer on a side street. You can see many of the baked goods through a window and the staff is quick to get you your order. We ordered an almond creme croissant and a piece of chocolate zucchini bread. They threw in a day old pastry for free, which was very nice. The croissant tasted fresh and the pastry layers were defined, the almond topping wasn't too sweet. The zucchini bread was the perfect level of soft texture and the sweetness was just right with the chocolate chips. Plus the slice was massive. The day old pastry was a thick cookie-like dough filled with a blueberry jam and was awesome! Next time, we'd like to try more savory items, like a quiche, but overall a great place to get pastries.

    Eclars & almond croissants.

This is our 2nd visit here...First time was when they first opened so thought I'd give them some grace as they work through the new business glitches. I honestly don't recall much of the items that we bought so am giving them another go. First, none of the items in the bakery cases were labeled. Had to ask the staff what each & every item was. Labeling them would be far more efficient and helpful for everyone. Second, the appearance of the bakery items weren't very professional/ esthetic looking compared to other bakeries that I've been. Not a big deal to me since taste is first & foremost most important however, a pretty pastry definitely makes an impression on the eyes. We bought a couple of items to try. The lemon olive oil cake with pistachio sounded delish. Have had other olive oils cakes before & it was always moist & flavorful. This one was dry & crumbly. The flavors were there but how could an olive oil cake be dry?!?! The vegan banana walnut cake with chocolate sounded amazing. It too was very dry and very very dense...so dense that we had to use effort to push a fork through. What this tells me was that the items have been sitting for a long while & haven't sold. There's no excuse why these 2 items were not quality checked and still left for sale. In all honestly, these were not calorie worthy enough for me to give them another go.

From the moment we walked in, we were greeted promptly and served with genuine kindness. The atmosphere is welcoming and relaxed. It feels like the kind of place where you can slow down, sit across from someone you love, and actually enjoy your coffee. We ordered an espresso, a latte, a chocolate croissant, and a lemon pastry. Everything was fresh. The croissant had crisp, flaky layers on the outside and a soft, buttery texture inside. The lemon pastry was bright and balanced, not overly sweet. The espresso was strong and smooth. The latte was well crafted and comforting. Service was quick without feeling rushed. The space was clean. The overall experience was simple and well done. If you are in downtown and want good coffee, fresh pastries, and attentive service, Once in a Blue Moon Bakery and Café is worth your visit. We thoroughly enjoyed it and will return. On the positive side, the flavors themselves were solid overall. The icing was tasty, and while the cake was decent, it leaned a bit dry, which was already giving us pause given this was meant to showcase their best work. What really ended the conversation for us was a major quality issue. Two of the icing sample balls each had a very long hair in them. It was immediately noticeable and extremely off-putting. At that point, we lost confidence and couldn't bring ourselves to continue sampling, let alone consider trusting them with something as important as a wedding cake. Between the dryness of the cake and the hair issue, we ultimately decided to go in a different direction. Not terrible flavor-wise, but the experience as a whole was disappointing and fell short for such a high-stakes purchase.

I got lucky and snagged a spot near the front, though :) I looked around at everything and it all looked so tasty! One thing that had a slight improvement but I will insist desperately needs improvement is their packaging. While this time I did get plastic clamshell containers, which is better than the foam lunch clamshell I got a full tart in last time, it was still a bit disappointing. The small paper bags for the cookies made sense, but then it was all thrown into a generic yellow smiley face thank you plastic grocery bag. I beg, please invest in some nice bakery cardboard boces, that way multiple treats can go into a single box too, and then just some nice paper bags. I love the food, but when trying to gift them or take it to somebodies house I feel odd pulling stuff out of a grocery bag and each item being individually in a plastic clamshell.
