Staff wasn't friendly. He only pointed to the to go section when I came to pick up my order (this was my first time here). I got the suya appetizer, which wasn't as spicy as I prefer and the meat was tough, and the kids chicken jollof rice (the chicken was so flavorless and dry) but the rice had a good smokey flavor. Unfortunately, I won't be returning. The owner responded to this review. They did not greet me. To just point to an area is rude when I say I'm here to pick up an order. I would suggest that you all change this approach. I was excited to try the food based off of other reviews. Cute restaurant. A very cool and authentic-feeling vibe. The thought put into detail was much appreciated, from the wall art to the wooden African-shaped platters. Loved the artsy outdoor seating, made from recycled materials such as tires and barrels. Resonated with the art lover in me! I came here recently to grab lunch and had a good experience! First, parking was easy because Yagg Sii Tenn is part of a strip mall, so plenty of parking spots can be found nearby. The decor was super colorful, with dining tables and more casual floor pillow seating available throughout. The people who worked there were super nice and helpful! I ended up ordering the Yassa Ganar, which was a jerk chicken served with either rice or couscous (I opted for the couscous). I decided to get the spicy version (made with habaneros), and it was pretty spicy but not overwhelmingly so. It was pretty darn tasty and quite affordable too! I will say that I was still kind of hungry afterwards, so next time I'll probably get an additional side or dessert :) I also got a homemade beverage, the hibiscus fusion, and it was refreshing! A very clean and colorful corner space in a business park near Publix. All the tables are painted with African national flags and the plates are in the shape of Africa. The people who were there who I think were the owners were very friendly. I ordered the Ethiopian vegetarian platter. You have a choice of pick 3 or 5. I chose five because there are five options so that made it really simple. The vegetarian options come on the platter with Injera bread which was spongy and delicious. Everything on the plate was delicious. I like spicy food with some heat so the Goman, Spicy seasoned collard greens were my favorite. I also liked the curried vegetables and the seasoned green beans. Also, nicely seasoned was the spicy lentil purée and I enjoyed the chickpea purée. I will definitely be back to try more of their menu items. Some of their meat dishes sound intriguing. This was my first time trying out African food. This place did not disappoint. They had different dishes from all over the continent. The plate that the food is served on is the shape of Africa and not only that the food tastes great. I tried the spicy wings and let me tell you they were spicy and good. When I want authentic African food, I go here. I have gotten quite a few things from the menu. The wings are done to perfection with a nice spice to it. I've gotten chicken stew, a few lamb dishes, oxtails were very tender & tasty and The fish dish (cannot remember the names). I can say I've been satisfied with every meal and even the drinks that they make. The customer service is TOP-NOTCH no matter how much of rush they get. This food was absolutely amazing. Me and a few of my friends took a visit after seeing their segment on WRAL. The customer service was warm and welcoming and very helpful. And the inside was on the smaller side, but it was intimate nice and cozy. The food was absolutely amazing, we coincidentally ended up going during restaurant week so we got to try a bit of different things. I had the harira soup with lamb and it was absolutely delicious, perfectly if you're sick. My appetizer was the turkey fataya and it was delicious, i could eat 10 of them. For my entree i had the oxtail dibi platter, also amazing, the oxtail was on the fatter side but very delicious, the plantains and vegetables especially the yams were just so tasty and cooked perfectly, took me back to childhood when i would try to sneak plantains as my mother would make them. I ended with mburu fass for dessert, DO NOT LEAVE WITHOUT TRYING IT!! Perfect dessert, it was light, sweet, warm, and crunchy yet moist. My friend tried the red snapper which he said was amazing, I tried a little bit and I can agree. We did wish it was a bit crisper tho but the sauce on top had a bit to do with that. My other friend tried the egusi soup with goat which was also very tasty, especially with the fufu. Honestly you cant go wrong here. I'll be back to try more and try the yassa. I LOVED that they had clear and real photos of their dish very nicely placed so people can see. Such an amazing experience. I have been wanting to try authentic African cuisine for a while now. I finally got the chance to do so. It just so happened that my PT was right next door. The restaurant is so nice and quaint...lots of vibrant colors. I asked a lot of questions about the food. The cashier happily answered all of the questions. I tried fufu for the 1st time and it was delicious. The food had so much flavor. All that I can say is "chef's kiss". The place and owners are amazing! There is such a strong inclusive culture displayed throughout the restaurant. Every country in Africa is unique and represented. There are many flags, chairs, and tables everywhere. The place is clean and inviting. I loved the sanitation station that held eating utensils, extra sauces, to go containers, napkins and the like. This restaurant is one of a kind! Because they literally make fresh juice in a variety of flavors. I learned that the cashews I love to eat are actually a very small part of a fruit that tastes even more delicious. For food, we ordered some really delicious items. We tried the suya (very spicy) , peri-peri wings (Very Spicy), and this meat pie with ground turkey that was absolutely delicious for appetizers. Our meal, I had a snapper filet with jollof rice and salad, my son order the meat pies in a sandwich with fresh coco bread, and my husband ordered lamb with jollof rice. The salad dressing was unbelievable! The perfect ratio of acidic ingredients and seasonings was present. The sauce on the fish was the perfect compliment! The lamb was cooked to perfection. It was tender and flavorful. The freshly made juices were quite impressive. As we were able to try so many for free. Which was a super nice touch. I saw this establishment on the local news and until then, did not know they existed! Opted to try it for lunch on what might be a busy day, fortunately I arrived before the crowd. The owner was very kind to walk me through the menu and photos displayed. Before arriving, I was hungry for lamb, then looking over the menu and pictures of the fish (Red Snapper) I was thinking fish ---then asked fillet or whole fish....hmmm rethinking about leftovers switched back to the lamb shank, Mishwi and it was absolutely delicious! The menu has many gluten free options and I asked to refrain from plantain and avocado due to allergies and easy with response, "sure we will substitute" something else. Again, customer service very welcoming and patient for new customer. While waiting, the owner brought small samples of their homemade beverages and placed on tray in the order listed for me to try. I held off as long as possible---then had the first with Ginger very good. The food arrived so I tried to stay focused and more customers came in---first timers all very interactive. I had another bite and decided to give the 2nd tonic a try with Moringa ---another very good choice! So much for taking a container for leftovers----I finished my food. Then went to the register, where the owner came from the kitchen and I asked her how long the beverages are good and ordered 3 to go!!! She even had me sign up, again felt very welcomed and a fantastic experience! I brought my glass container for leftovers but sadly none---delicious and finished everything! The owner gave me a menu to come back and checked off what I had so I could try more options! Fortunately at this time, no desserts were listed GF except for Thiakry....and she tells me they could make the apple beignets GF, Achomo, dang!!!! I've had the Yagg Sii Tenn food truck a few times and been to their store years ago in another NC town but not to the Apex location. This quick service resturant was colorful and inviting. There are pictures on the wall & windows of each menu item so you can see what you're getting prior. The food: We got the piri piri wings & turkey fataya for an appetizer. I'm a pepper head, my wife not so much. The wings gave us the tingle around our mouths. I loved it!! The Fataya was tasty as well, a small fried empanada or hand pie to give context. The chicken Jollof wasn't what my wife expected as the Jollof is Senegalese vs the Nigerian we usually have and make. It was still good but not what she expected. I had the whole snapper - well seasoned and tender flesh. The Jollof was good as well. The fact that this is in Apex, is a joy and I hope more folks visit or take out. Great flavor and service. I was super excited when a friend introduced me to this restaurant. The atmosphere is warm and the staff is extra friendly. I mentioned I like Madeleines and they gifted me an order. The food is yummy. Here's the reason I gave three stars. A tip of $20 was added to my bill that I didn't notice until later. This irks me for a couple of reasons. I paid at the register so I hadn't received food or service yet. And tips are based on my satisfaction, not added as a fee. Definitely enjoy the food but check your receipt while there. I feel awful that this place has been in Apex for over 2 years and is less than a mile form our house. We never knew this place existed because it is tucked away in the back of a place office complex. We just happened to find this place while looking for something new to try. This place is not only a restaurant, it also has a store where you can purchase unique items like spices and drinks. I will admit the menu is so extensive that I was very overwhelmed trying to figure out what I even wanted to try. I would suggest anyone who is new to this place to go inside. They have pictures of all the dishes place all over the walls and the staff is very helpful in explaining dishes. We started out with the Turkey Fataya which is basically ground turkey cooked in a hand pie and is deep fried. The meat was very well seasoned and honestly I wouldn't have know it was turkey had I not order it. It was served with some sort of red pepper chutney that was a nice complement. This is not a spicy dish but well seasoned. Because I was so overwhelmed with the menu I decided to take go with a more familiar flavor profile and picked the Kuku Curry chicken. Its a nonbreaded chicken curried with carrots, cabbages over rice or fufu. The curry was not heavy or overpowering which was great. I initially chose rice for my safe but was curious about the fufu so I ordered both. I will say I am not a fan fufu's texture. Its has a doughy texture that's like eating instant mashed potatoes that have been formed into a ball. But otherwise I really enjoyed the dish. My husband chose to go the more sweet route and order the Tajine. This is a chicken breast stewed in a honey sauce with dates, prunes, and figs added. There is corn in this dish, so make sure if you request it without they don't use it (we had to have them remake it because my husband has Diverticulitis and they didn't say the dish had corn on the list of ingredients). This is a very sweet dish. We ended up added some of the hot pepper sauce they had to counteract the sweetness which actual made the dish taste even better. They used fresh ingredients so I was delight when I got a huge chunk of fig on my fork. The couscous the dish was served with was a basic couscous that didn't have much flavor, but I can understand why. You want the dish to be the star, not the side. This was the same for the Jolof rice we ordered. It said it was a tomato based rice, but it didn't have much flavor as far as I could tell, but this may have also been because of the dishes we were eating it with. The do not have your traditional drinks here, meaning no Coke or Pepsi style drinks. They do offer water and an assortment of All Natural drinks which they make in house. They are kind enough to offer samples of all these drinks so you don't end up buying one and not liking it. We tried the Ginger Lemonade which has a very strong ginger flavor (and contains Turmeric). The Baoba Cocktail was very gritty because it was made with almond milk and kind of had a coconutty flavor. I didn't care too much for either of these so I more so stuck to water. I did not like that we were asked to tip for the meal prior to even trying the food, but thankfully it was worth it. The restaurant was so clean you would have thought it was a brand new restaurant. We defiantly will be returning to try other things on the menu and highly recommend this culture food experience. read more

We were so excited to find west African food, specifically Dibi lamb and chicken! Yagg Sii Tenn is located in Apex, NC (Raleigh), and sits in what appears to be a fairly new space. It's off the beaten path, but definitely worth the journey. They also do a food truck, so check out that schedule as well. The decor starts with old tires, recycled and painted with colors from various African flags. Inside, there are several tables, and an area where you can sit on the floor and eat if you'd like that experience. The owners are a husband and wife team who are very personable and friendly. The food...oh mah goodness, oh mah goodness! Flavors on flavors on flavors! And when they tell you that the hot sauce is hot...BELIEVE THEM! The lamb is tender, fish is perfectly cooked, chicken is tender and juicy, and the rice is perfect. Delicious onion sauce and cooked vegetables. The ugali has seasonings added to it, so it's not my preference as I like mine to be unseasoned, serving as a clean, starchy carrier for the bold flavors of the main foods. I'm also not big on the vermicelli noodles, they're kind of overcooked and dry. I've visited three times now, and have been satisfied each time. This place has AMAZING food. They had a food truck at Durham veg fest and I got to try the jollof rice and the apple beignets. The jollof rice was so good - it came with a bunch of roasted veggies. It was very filling. I got the spicy version which was just the regular dish plus a spicy sauce. There was so much heat from the sauce - only get it if you have a high spice tolerance (I definitely had to drink a lot of water after!) the beignets were delicious, perfectly fried and soft in the center. The powder sugar was a nice touch, I did wish there was more of the chocolate sauce though! The prices for everything was pretty good ($15 for the rice seemed like a lot but it was so filling and a good portion). The service was friendly and very quick. I normally take photos of my food, so it's a mark of how delicious this was that I just dug in and didn't take a single photo. The chicken was loaded with a sauce/rub that was flavorful and delicious. You have the opportunity to order hot or mild -- I got nervous and ordered mild with the hot sauce on the side, and boy am I glad I did that. The sauce was HOT. The sides were amazing.
