I do not understand how anyone could rate this place less than 5. I've been probably 15 times since we moved nearby in March, and it's just wonderful. Everything is wonderful. I have been by this place a thousand times and never went in. One day, after buying some weed at a nearby very expensive container store I stopped in to see if they had a Pastrami sandwich. They do and it is outrageously good. I have been back a few times and am going tomorrow. I love this place. It has Pizza, sandwiches, and all sorts of assorted Deli stuff. I did not want to write this review, but I felt/feel like something should be said. I have been going to this deli for years now, ordering the SAME exact thing year after year. Old employees never had a problem with my sandwich. New employees will say "We don't do that... we don't have them..." and I say "I've been getting the same sandwich for 6 years!" I get something from the pizzeria side of the store on my sandwich and they have made me go and retrieve the item myself several times now. Never had an issue until the two women in the front started to work. They often have attitude when ordering and lack customer service as well. They recently had made a comment when I chose not to tip them on their screen which is completely unacceptable. I usually tip but when you say things like "well are you gonna order" when I'm reading your menu, you don't deserve it. read more

I pass this place all the time in my way to work and always wanted to check it out, their sign makes it seem like they have really good salads! So the other day my husband and I decided to stop for a breakfast sandwich and coffee (it IS. A deli). The two women working there were not pleasant or friendly at all. Quick talking with an unwelcoming tone. The place barely had any food on the shelves. The coffee was very watery, and honestly I was too afraid to even ask what they had for breakfast. They had a couple bagels wrapped in Saran wrap on the counter so that was a hard pass. They had a couple good looking cupcakes on the counter but by the looks of the place i questioned how many days they were sitting there. Wouldn't recommend. I was driving through the neighborhood to enjoy the scenery around the lakes and hiking trails when I saw the big sign for "Utopia Deli." I was unfamiliar with the area and never eaten here before but I liked the name and sign so I decided to stop in. I got the Utopia Hero (of course) and it was amazing. Chicken cold cuts, apple slices, honey Dijon mustard. So good. Also got some homemade cookies to go. Had to stop myself before I also got their pizza and wings! They looked delicious! We've gotten lunch here twice, and both times it left a lot to desire. They are generous with meat, but that being said, they don't use high quality ingredients so the wraps / sandwiches still lack. In addition; do not come here if you are in a rush. We ordered 2 wraps, were the only people in line, and waited 15 minutes. Food is decent, pizza better than deli/grill. Customer service is hit or miss. Woman in front is quick tempered with customers, rude to coworkers. Guys in front and back go out of way to be kind and quick service. One came out from register to hold door for me, gentleman. The Utopia is the Upper Greenwood Lake premiere business of everything. Pizza, subs, hot & cold... and the best damn coffee anywhere because they use Green Mountain Coffee Roasters Coffee. Ordered a cold sandwich for delivery about 5 minutes away from this deli. After waiting an hour for it to get delivered it was made wrong. Since the driver already left I drove to the deli to get a replacement. Once I arrived I was looked at as if it was my mistake after saying the order on the phone multiple times to make sure it was correct. Once they stopped questioning what I did and didn't want on the sandwich rudely, I was informed that they didn't have anymore long rolls and they could put it on a round roll instead. I left only to realize that there is a price difference for the round roll and they never offered to reimburse me the difference. Normally have no complaints about this place being that it's the only thing close enough to justify going to but one bad apple spoils the bunch. read more

From ice cream to charcoal for the grill, they have an interesting collection of items. The sandwiches in the deli are delicious and they don't scrimp on the meat. We have been coming to Utopia Deli for many years. Their sandwiches and bagels are excellent! Great Coffee, too! The staff is friendly. Unfortunately, we have both noticed a very steady decline in the overall cleanliness of Utopia Deli. Table tops are sticky, food remnants are left on the seats, and the floors throughout the Deli are dirty. The worst are the bathrooms (floors/stalls). Utopia Deli's appearance looks "beat". Why? Cleanliness is fundamental. Please do not let Utopia Deli continue to go downhill...it has so much potential, and we wish to remain loyal customers. read more

I cant speak to the deli section because I haven't ordered anything from the deli. that being said the floors and tables have always been clean . nor can I speak to the restrooms for the same reason, I haven't used them yet. Now onto the pizza section, right off the bat the pizza is amazing and the guy who makes the pizzas -Mike- is a breathe of fresh air, from the nyc fast paced, I cant be bothered attitude. always has a smile and more than happy to interact with you. also we just moved into the area and he has been a great help with important tips. last thoughts the beverage section is pretty diverse so is their munchies. for closing I haven't tried Mikes hot Italian sandwiches yet so wish me luck. read more

I ordered here because my car is in shop and it is one of the places around me that delivers. I ordered something very simple , breakfast because even if it was delivered I could easily heat it up if it was cold. There is no menu online but I have been inside the establishment before. I ordered eggs, bacon and hash browns. I received burnt extremely burnt bacon, that looked like it was abut 4 hours old and was left over because it was extremely burnt and I am not picky, but burnt to the point it was inedible. NO HASHBROWNS at all , and two regular eggs . Im thankful at least the eggs were edible. I will never go back to this business . Basically I threw my money down the toilet . Go to Demarcos if you are hungry in the Hewitt area because this place is not worth any of your money. read more

It's wonderful to have a place like Utopia Deli and Suzi's Tomato so close to the hiking trails! The sandwiches are great, there is hot food (including pizza with a great tomato sauce), and even a small grocery section. Don and Susan are friends of the hiking community and also carry the local NY-NJ Trail Conference books and trail maps. A great find! read more

I live by Cafe Utopia and often find myself having to fall back on the best of the evils and grab breakfast here. It doesn't suck, but I just wish it was good. I'm actually writing this review hoping the owners read this and make things better. I have had sandwiches here and they are average for the area. Just so you know, in this area, average is awful as compared to most places in Bergen County. Meat is cut too thick and they don't use top-notch meats. Breakfast sandwiches are also average. Bacon, egg and cheese should have more bacon. I often order this breakfast staple with extra bacon, only to still be disappointed. Wings are ok. Need to be cooked longer when I get them home. Staff is always friendly. Not the quickest, but they don't seem to want to multi-task. Oh and if you are a picky eater, you may want to avoid. I can't even count the number of times I bring my husband's Taylor ham only breakfast sandwich home only to find they put egg or cheese on it. read more

Utopia isn't really a fitting name for this place. Prime location for a business, if the owners actually cared about the product that were using. The workers are usually rude, take too long to help you when there's no customers in the store because they're too busy talking about everyone in town. Too many times have I gone in there and heard a few names being thrown around. The food isn't even sub par. A bacon egg and cheese consists of 1 egg 3 slices of bacon and 1/2 of a slice of cheese. They put spoiled milk and cream in coffee/tea, they sell week old food and have no problem doing it. If there's a little mold on something they cut the mold off and use the product anyway, knowing that it's clearly no good. Everything is too over priced for the amount of food you get or should I say the amount of food you don't get. The owner her self will tell workers to keep moldy cold cuts because they are "still good". Any of the "salads" in the deli case will sit for a week at a time and they "flip" the salads and put them in new containers every night to make them look look pretty and new in the morning. They use rotting lettuce, tomatoes and onions on sandwiches. Sandwiches that call for "fresh mozzarella" gets sour nasty mozzarella that sits in the deli until it's all finished. They don't throw anything out. Everything gets used. Expired or not. Do yourself a favor and don't waste your money at this place. If your care about the food your eating don't even bother going in here. This doesn't even deserve a one star rating. read more
