Best bar in Long Beach - not every day that you can find a place with The Misfits on the juke, some crazy Japanese gameshow on the tube and good friends playing pool. I miss this bar so much now that we're down in the land of the Yeah, Bro! and the Yeah, Broad, but that only makes the visits that much sweeter. Beats a nightclub full of coke-heads and people who don't realize that if you touch the bartender, you could get your arm broke. Go with your boots on - the bathroom is a bit on the terrifying side (powdered soap?) - and practice "The Art of Ignoring." Old dudes sure can talk. Having said that, it's quite liberating to go to a pub, sit at the bar, and not say jack shit to the annoying Longshoreman who wants to talk to you about cabbage or something. Eventually, one of you is gonna be bored to death - why not Ol' Stinky instead of you? Drinks are cheap and the pour is deep - yes, that is a perfect example of "win, win." This place makes you feel so comfortable that you feel obligated to visit if you're in the area - like family, but better drunks. I walked in, met some friendly faces, and was immediately offered pizza by random people at the end of the bar. Someone gave me their life back story, recommendations to food, and places to hit up. Ah, the Vroom... so many drinks, so few memories. I love this place, its located at the beginning (or end, depending on where you start) of Alcohol Alley in LBC. The bar tenders are nice and make quite the stiff drink. I used to be a local here for years with my bro and poker buddies and we always had a blast! We'd been looking for a good dive bar, and while Fern's was decent, this place was much more like it. The only thing I would change about this place is their "cash only" policy. Sure, there's an ATM in the corner, but who wants to pay those fees? Other than that, I'd say this is a great little dive bar in downtown Long Beach. It's not huge, but not timy, there are 2 pool tables and the selection of music on the jukebox is pretty darn good. There was a pretty eclectic mix of patrons on the night I went (which was the weekend of the Grand Prix, so I suppose that could've affected things a bit). So a group of 4 of us walk in to this place and get our drinks right away. I got a Corona and a shot of tequilla and damned if I didn't just spent less than 10 bucks! So I turn around and I'm used to loitering until a spot opens up where we can sit, but nope, there it is about 6 seats all open, next to each other. Sweet! Good bar. dark. dingy. two pool tables that attract a good amount of real players. the liquor selection is great, the crowd is usually very friendly, the regulars... and i mean the weekend regulars.. not the old farts drunk by 2 on a tuesday... the regulars are nice and talkative. I can't believe I haven't reviewed the V Room yet. It's a dive bar in Long Beach. It has a tiny parking lot, a few pool tables and chill people. Again, it's a dive bar so I really don't come here expecting to pick up girls. But man, the drinks are cheap and it's just such a chill joint. I always have a good time here... Well, except once. I was already quite buzzed and I forgot that this place is CASH ONLY. So I was only able to get one round. Drinks are nice and strong here too :) read more

I give this place a 5 star on the best dive bar I've been to....Ever! The people who work here are great, as well as the regular patrons. This was my out of the way watering hole for many months, but with so much going on in Long Beach, you have to hit the V. It used to be called the Venitian Room back in the 40's. This place is not only affordable, but it definately holds its history in Long Beach. The Jukebox is good, but the drink prices are the best! I miss you V Room, with your carpeted walls that have probably been there since the shagging 70's, to your dark, windowless facade facing 4th Street. This bar is totally a hidden treasure! I went here with a group of friends for a going away party/night on the town. First of all I am embarrassed I did not know about this place since I am a student in Long Beach, but anyways .. it is a great little dive place. Not too big in size, but totally worth being a bit crowded. The Redbull Vodka I ordered was $3.50 as well as my boyfriend's Jack and Coke. There was a wall with specials as well and the bartender was nice and friendly enough to introduce me to some alcoholic bevs I was formerly unaware of .. This was definitely a nice place to start the night and "pre-game" since it was cheap and fun .. Bathrooms clean! Bartender Nice! I wish this bar was just a bit closer to my place as it's one of my most favorite places to visit- in general. Here's why: -the drinks are pleasantly priced (2 whisky/ gingers = $7) -you actually get to hear the music you choose on the juke box (which, by the way, has a pretty awesome selection) -you can actually hear what your friend is saying across the table without them shouting, (and sometimes hear other people's conversations- or maybe I'm just nosy...) -the ambiance is cool -always a place to park. -always a place to sit. -you don't have to wait 15 minutes for the bartender to notice you -the tv's, if you drift off because your pal went to the rest room, are always playing some cool, old movie (last time I was there they were showing some 80's horror flick) -there are pool tables should you care to play -you don't feel packed in like a can of sardines (like some bars in the vicinity...) So, let's not rush all at once to this place, as that would ruin the whole experience of this place. But, then again, you won't find me there on a weekend, so what does it matter anyway... My favorite dive bar in Long Beach. Recently revamped, but full of character. Get the Breakfast Shot and a Jalapeño Margarita. They have a well rounded selection of beer in bottles and cans that will please a crafty cat or a dude wanting some PBR. I moved back to Long Beach so I could walk to V Room. I love this place after a long day at work. Cheap booze and a pretty decent jukebox (albeit too much country music for my liking, but I ain't tryin' to be a hater) The bartender is very easy on the eyes and has great tats. Now the smell can be a little much to take when you first enter and my guess is that most of it is coming from the carpet covered walls that appear to have been that way since the 60s, so I would imagine they continue to hold whatever was smoked in the bar for years before the ban went into affect. Like I say, after work is great but be prepared if you go in at night or on weekends because it gets crazy packed and loud as hell. read more

Based on going there once at 7pm mid-week... Pros: Cheap mixed drinks ($3.50 for strong 7&Seven), good juke box, pretty empty during the early evening. Our bartender was friendly. Cons: Stinky 50 year old carpet/carpeted walls. The fear of leaning back and allowing yourself to touch the creepy booth backs/wall. The bathroom was super old and worn down but not gross like a lot of people have said. They've clearly never been in a truly disgusting dive bar bathroom. Not horrible though I wouldn't necessarily go back. I'd opt for similarly priced drinks at a good happy hour spot. Worth the onetime experience so you can share a laugh with local peeps. read more

I experienced nice bartenders and very reasonable drinks with $.50/play 2 pool tables in decent condition. Good pool players are here, but it's a long way to drive to play pool, but I'd sure drive there again to meet our buds there! I think a round of drinks for the bar averaged out to only $2/person. Again, very reasonable drink prices. But, even on Thanksgiving day, this place had a tough crowd that made me decide that I'll only go there again if my friend(s) are there, for sure! Laid back vibes, cool decor, and an old school juke box make this bar extra special. They have a pool table and a good selection of beer and cocktails. What really sets V Room apart is their impressive hours of operation. They open at 6am and close at 2am-you really can drink here any time. I just went here for the first time last week and it was pretty sweet. We live down the block, and I was always curious what this little shack has to offer. Obviously, it's a dive bar. But one thing I liked about this place was the crowd, it was a good mix of "non-pretentious" seeming hipsters and actual normal people out to have a good time. I feel like a lot of these types of places in Long Beach attract an annoying crowd, but I felt completely comfortable here. The bartender we had was awesome too. She was so cute and friendly...I think her name was Sam. But she was quick, attentive, and even stopped to introduce herself and talk a little. I could definitely hang out here for awhile. Beer selection wasn't that great at all. But they had a pretty good bar with some interesting stuff. I'll definitely go back. read more

V room gets 3 stars for one reason. I had just moved here to long beach and sat at the bar and though the drinks were strong and relatively cheap. The place was dark and hole in the wall type... And I know it's a dive bar but the clientele seemed very cliche and to themselves. I did just give them a 4 star rating because the bartender ladies were fabulous... But some old dude tried to take me home and it was awkward. Not the bars fault but definitely was a downer for the night... being that 45yr old dudes arent my thing. Gem of a dive bar! Service is great, not surly not overly fake friendly.
