Gem of a dive bar! Service is great, not surly not overly fake friendly. Price point is very good and they even have specials for the occasion, i.e., Pride, Grand Prix, etc. Chill neighborhood bar, great low-key mixed crowd of peoples who just want to drink, watch TV, listen to the jukebox and or play some pool. Only Latinos with CA IDs accepted...(Almost sounds like "Whites Only") This past Friday, March 19, a woman and I went to a local bar in Long Beach, the V-Room on 4th and Alamitos. When we arrived, no one was at the door as there seemed to be a fight taking place. Nevertheless, my date and I, who seemed to be the only Latinos in the bar, entered the establishment as the fight seemed to be under control. Once there, the bouncer approached us, distinctly from the crowd of people and asked us for identification. I showed my California driver's license and my date showed her Mexican identification. The bouncer said she could not be at the establishment because she needed to have a valid California ID. I felt this was a form of discrimination. The bouncer did not even ask for a passport or other sort of ID. When I questioned whether it was an act of racism, he said, "No, by law you must show a California ID." I asked him whether tourists from out of state and out of the country are barred from the establishment and he repeated that everyone must have a California ID and that other establishment just weren't following the law ... I'm not one to make a big deal out of things, but I'd hate to contribute to an illegal act of discrimination by not acting or having someone look into this. read more

I was in the V room last night on 5/11/16. My bartender was a tall white guy with lots of tats. This is probably the 3rd or 4th time I have gone in for a drink and to play pool and the bartender was giving lousy service because he was AGAIN playing pool with his friend instead of doing his job. DUDE there are TWO pool tables there! and you are taking up one of them because you want to play pool instead of work?!?! come on man! hopefully this gets back to Candice (the owner) so she can address the issue. This place is a great mellow dive-bar. The drinks are super cheap (mine were $4.50 per drink) and really stiff. I asked the bartender for something fruity and he made me a drink with Malibu, pineapple juice, cranberry juice, and some frothy thing that made it almost like a pina colada, which was exactly what I wanted. This place has ruined me - might as well get my paycheck directly deposited into their account. I think about it all of the time and even though I do live down the street, I take a cab there because I just can't wait long enough to walk to my drink. The thing is, you can take a 3 dollar cab there and not feel the burn because the bug juice is reasonably priced. Good too! The hard working bartenders make exceptional drinks wether its a coke, a 2 part or an 18 part... or 40 cherry bombs. They even remember the big straw thing and that makes you want to remember to be nice to them, tip and take your glasses back to the bartop when you're done. There is a place for you here either at a table with your homies or saddled up to the bar. You'll find one, its ok. The crowd always seems different on the weekends and holidays, but if you look close enough, you'll probably see a familiar face at whatever time you decide to stroll in. If not, you'll find someone or thing to entertain you. There are two pool tables, a cigarette machine, erotic photo hunt, AND CARL. You can play with those. Good spot. 5 Stars. Although, I wish they had taken The Murder City Devils out of the jukebox instead of Michael Jackson. read more

I don't understand why people like this place, but maybe my experiences here are not normal(hence 2 stars rather then 1). On one such crappy occasion my friends put money in the Juke Box and picked an older cure song first, the bartender I guess hates the cure, called it crap and then stopped the music, mind you it's $1 for 3 songs and he didn't let any of the other songs play either. My friend asked for her dollar back being a little insulted at this point and he laughed at her. If I'm going to go to a dingy bar I'll go to fern's at least the bartenders are nice there. read more

"Come in to get well" cheers the little sign hanging outside this otherwise downer looking building with no windows. Inside, beware. You may get sucked into the V Room alternative universe. One of the regulars there was telling me how he's in his 80's and the doctors prescribed him marijuana pills. Somehow over the course of quite a few more drinks, I ended up eating one of those little red pills. I then met a one armed hooker, a retired attorney, a drug dealer, an off-duty cop and his stripper girl friend, and a huge blur of other characters while I swear the bar was moving the whole time, along with the lighting seeming to fade in and out, or was that just me? hmmmm read more

Hands down, this is the best bar in LBC. Unlike Fern's, you will get great service and the place is clean and doesn't smell like perma-vomit and mildew. Unlike the now shitty Red Room, there is a great old school jukebox, not one of those digital pieces of crap with Top 40 BS. In the day time it's patronized by old timers, who are extremely welcoming to the tattooed freaks, punks, etc. who go there. At night, there's a good mix of various types. V Room is for everyone, no matter your sexual orientation, race etc. The owners work there and are the absolute best, all the bartenders are cool, friendly and attentive. V Room is great for a quick happy hour drink or to hang out all night. read more

If you've got a $20 bill then you can get HAMMERED at the V Room and still be able to leave a pretty nice tip. it's cash only, which sucks a little, but the bartenders are super cool and always are quick with the joke or a light of your smoke. The regulars (who are most of the crowd) are awesome, even the old drunks. I had a 20 minute conversation with one such old drunk who had an eerie resemblance, physically and phonetically, to one of the chicken farmers from "Napoleon Dynamite". My in laws decided to take our kids to the beach so the Husband and I decided to do a bar crawl on 4th street!! We walked past a few that seemed kinda sketchy and uninviting. My Husband was feeling discouraged that our bar crawl was gonna suck. Then we came across the V Room. We said if this place seemed weird, we'd give up and go eat instead. As soon as we opened the door a man said "Hey youngins! Come in!", and so we did... And we stayed for 4 hours. And our bar crawl turned into a one bar thing. Melanie the bartender was very friendly and super chill. Seriously the nicest bartender ever. Drinks were cheap and STRONG. The jukebox was awesome. It was a Saturday at 2 pm so it wasn't super packed. But everyone there was awesome. People were buying us drinks, we were buying people drinks. I seriously had the best time. Still the place to go! They have added craft beer to their repertoire alongside champagne splits and if you haven't had a Breakfast Shot then you are missing out! It comes with baccccccon!!! I love dive bars, and we decided to check out the v room due to pretty good reviews on yelp. The drinks were stiff, relatively cheap, and I was thoroughly enjoying myself. We were out celebrating our friend's birthday. We wanted to play pool, and saw a table open but it was racked. 20 minutes later, still no sign so we got some change and started playing until we realized the cue ball was missing. We got the bartenders involved in this search and finally a few people came back in and one of them had it. Okay... so you stole the cue ball to hold your place apparently. But hey, don't leave your table for long periods of time if you want to keep it. For all we knew you could have put in the money and decided to leave. Then the lady of that group ( apparently the group were frequent patrons) started talking loudly and might I mention calling us rude names and saying that was her table, it was leveled , we stole it and so on. My friend overheard and got mad( last time I checked this is a normal reaction when you are being cursed at), which in turn she started walking over saying we "stole" her table, slapping her hands together. The bartender, who had been upset with her taking the cue ball, then came over, and in a slightly accusing tone asked if we put .50 cents in. Of course we did. We even asked for change so we could play. So we left, not before telling them it was only .50 cents. I think what made me mad was the fact they could have come over and told us they had put in money already and sorry could we move over. It was really not a big deal. Granted we were not sober and maybe we could have handled it better, but really. It wasn't that big of a deal. 4 stars for stiff drinks for a great prices. But have to reduce to 2 stars for a bad time. read more

They have a huge part outside for people to hang out and smoke or whatever, but instead all of the V Room patrons decide to stand on the sidewalk and block it for people trying to walk down the street. I've been coming to the V Room for the last few months. Some nights the bar is completely dead and other nights it is packed to the max. The mix of people in this dive bar is amazing. Anywhere from old wrinkled guys to young college students, punks and more. If you want to play pool, make sure you show up early. Once the night gets going, competition on the pool table heats up. Amateurs need not plan to play. The drinks are regular priced for a dive bar and arent particularly strong. Unless you know the bartenders and then I find they come stronger. The ladie's bathroom gets a zero on a scale of 1 to 10. It is tiny, the line is always long, the door doesnt lock, and it is completely nasty. I'd rather pee outside than wait in line for the bathroom. read more

V-room is a fun Dive bar in Long Beach. During the day you get the local Bukowski style alcoholics and at night its more of a sceney type bar. Beware of the cheap well drink specials, like Redroom down the street they are bound to have you hunched over by the end of the night. Not the best or worst neighborhood in Long Beach. Fun times, cool music, cool people. They have a couple pool tables and the bar gets cramped some nights when its at its best. read more

I freakin' love the V-Room. It is absolutely, positively the best dive bar in all of Long Beach. It's the perfect beginning and perfect end to an evening of bar crawling on 4th Street. The crowd is always an interesting mix of middle-aged punk rockers, grizzled old longshoremen (chat them up, they have great stories about the history of the LBC), confused businessmen, the tragically hip, and the professional drinkers. And not once have I ever got any attitiude or lip from any of them. The juke box kicks serious ass and the bartenders are generally cool and make your drinks without ever acting like they may or may not feel like waiting on you. Throw a few quarters in the juke box and jump around to some Johnny Cash or AC/DC--just keep moving 'cause otherwise your feet will stick to the alcohol-soaked carpeting.
