John helped me choose a new Miele Complete C3 Marin vacuum yesterday and he was absolutely wonderful! Vacuum Cleaner Hospital's price matched that of Amazon, but they offered much more than you would get by ordering online. I got the full rundown of all of the features, tips on avoiding common user errors, and John answered literally every single one of my questions without hesitation. These folks are serious about vacuums! John must have spent an hour answering all of my questions and demonstrating the different features of the vacuum -- I was so grateful for his time and that he didn't rush me or pressure me in the slightest. Buying a vacuum from Vacuum Cleaner Hospital also gets you a free yearly checkup and someone to call if you have any issues (and of course, in house repairs). I went home and vacuumed my entire house with actual joy. I got the floorboards, up in the corners, the air intakes, around behind the washing machine...everywhere. It is such a fun little machine and a total workhorse! We live in a wooded area and track in lots of dirt -- the Miele sucked it up without leaving so much as a speck of dust behind (and I can see that it did so because of the LED on the vacuum head). This morning I spilled some coffee grounds and I was like, "YAY, time to bust out the Miele again!" This was the most expensive house tool I've bought in awhile (maybe ever?) but I can already tell that it was totally worth it. They do have 12 month financing as well, which really helps. The Vacuum Cleaner Hospital has kept my cleaner alive a lot longer than it should have ever been allowed to live. Still works like a charm, I tell you. A freaking CHARM. I have to take the thing in every two years or so, particularly when we still had our dog friend and when I had long hair (look, I know what science says, but I tell you: I lose a wig's worth of hair a day and, logically, I should be bald by now), and they always fix everything. They have replaced hoses, filters, clear clogs, taped up a tear in the cord, and basically just give 'er the old one-two till your cleaner is good as new. At this point I really should have just bought a new vacuum cleaner but, since we've made it this far, I reckon I'd like to see how long it lasts. Plus, I mean, why buy a new vacuum when you have a vaguely passable one at home already? So, the very first time we visited, it was FREE. We won some deal of the day or something. What a fabulous surprise! Since then, especially as our vacuum cleaner ages, it's gotten pricier. I think last time we spent $75, which, really, is the price of a new (cheap, cheap, cheap) vacuum, but not the price of a Dyson and, at this point, I'm unlikely to settle for less, so, yeah, guess I'll keep running this one into the ground till the Vacuum Cleaner Hospital pronounces it dead! Please remember to keep your ticket. Dude got cranky with me when my husband forgot to give it to me and I showed up without it. I was all, uh, it's an upright ... it's blue ... Yeah, I can totally see how that would be annoying. Still, they should have a better system, IMO, that doesn't rely on my (in)ability to hang on to a small slip of paper. This place is in the same shopping center with 3 Cups and the ABC Store and Phydeaux and all that, which of course means ample parking out front, which is key because, I mean, have you ever tried to wheel your vacuum cleaner around a parking lot? First to review!! With my poor doggy's latest health scare, we had a lot of mess to clean up, but our steam cleaner was not sucking. It sucked in a non-sucking way. With four animals this is not an item we can do without. I kind of cheaped out on this 4 years ago buying it on HSN because of the EZ-pay. I know, I know. It was a Hoover that worked fine for general cleaning but wasn't quite cutting the mustard with our additional fur babies and two kids. We took it in to be inspected which required a $30 deposit that you could use towards repair or replacement. It turned out we had a cracked hose which would cost about the same amount of money I paid for the cleaner but they did have a professional grade model that was reasonably priced so we decided to go ahead and upgrade. I am glad that we did. I was reluctant because I thought steam cleaners were all about the same but just using this once on some older pet stains and blood stains from my dog throwing up blood (see vet reviews if you want to hear more about that), we were amazed at how good the carpets looked. We were to the point of replacing them with laminates but I think this machine bought us a little time. Very friendly service too. read more

I sent my husband in to have our 2 Dyson vacuums serviced. After keeping them for 10 days, they told us that they could not be repaired, and then gave him a "used car salesman" end of the month type one day discount on a $1000 vacuum in a brand Ive never heard of. My husband has allergies and I really didn't care that much, so I told him to go ahead. It was spring and it had been three weeks since we vacuumed. The thing was a beast and it seemed to really dig in and do a good job. Well, except that the second time I used it, it just quit working. I replaced the bag, took the bottom off, checked the belts, but nada. Since my husband had made the original purchase I asked him to call about exchanging the vacuum for one that was better reviewed by Consumer reports. The manager that he spoke with on the phone told him it would be "no problem". Well, I packed up the monstrously heavy vacuum, bags, and attachments. When we got to the store, no problem meant a 25% restocking fee plus another 15% " you didn't put all the attachments on correctly" fee, none of which was disclosed at purchase. Luckily for us there were two salesmen on the floor selling Chapel Hill folk $1000 and up vacuums, because my protests to the 40% charge were quickly taken to heart. I'm happy with my vacuum now. These guys do have a great selection of machines and accessories, but a little honest disclosure would be nice. read more

I visit the Vacuum Cleaner Hospital to get information about a central vacuum and learned that a central vacuum is the best you can get in terms of cleaning power, ai filtrations, and avoidance of allergens. I also learned that a Miele canister does a pretty good job and, in my situation, is an attractive alternative the central vacuum. While I was there, several customers listened in on our conversation and offered their own opinions. All were positive and constructive. We acquired knowledge useful in making a choice between a central system and various Miele and Dyson products. The salesman knew a lot about vacuums and seemed very happy just to answer my questions. I was there for nearly 2 hours (guess I had a lot of questions) and never felt any pressure to make a decision and buy. In fact, I think the sales person may have been surprised when I decided to buy a Miele Dog and Cat model. We took the Miele home, used it, and immediately noticed several differences between it and the vacuums we had used previously. First, it is much more quiet. Second, it has much more sucking power. Third, our rugs look and feel cleaner. After I made my purchase, I checked on the internet. The result was that I felt I got my Miele for a good price, and I bought it from a company that knows it's merchandise and has enough respect for its customers to learn a lot about its products and provide information in a friendly way. We visited the Vacuum Cleaner Hospital to purchase a new Miele vacuum cleaner--our well-used 17 year old Miele was ready to bite the dust! We did but a new Miele, and while we were there, my husband noticed a Vroom car vacuum cleaner mounted on the wall. He thought the Vroom would be a great thing to have to vacuum out our cars since lugging the large vacuum cleaner out to the garage is always inconvenient. I bought the Vroom and gave it to my husband for Christmas 2014. He mounted it in the garage and we have been using it frequently. Our cars have never looked so clean, and with the price of cars, we want ours to look good as long as possible! We love the little vacuum cleaner and are so happy we decided to buy one! I would recommend this place only for connoisseurs of vacuum cleaners. VCH isn't really interested in dealing with you if you just have a regular vacuum cleaner. I made 2 trips to the Vacuum Cleaner Hospital for my run-of-the mill Eureka vacuum cleaner. Each time I was treated fairly rudely by the staff (2 different people) because my vacuum cleaner was from a "big box store" and, according to them, wasn't worth repairing. I came in to have a belt replaced. The person at the counter looked down his nose at my vacuum cleaner, complained that it was basically a piece of junk that I "probably bought at Target or some place," and then tried to sell me a $500+ Miele vacuum cleaner. While I completely appreciate that Miele is a top-notch vacuum cleaner and I respect his opinion, I felt that his condescending attitude was unnecessary. I am just a normal homeowner, not a cleaning service or someone with loads of money to spend on a fancy Euro vacuum cleaner just to impress my friends. I wasn't there to buy a new vacuum cleaner (and certainly not a $500 one!), and I certainly wasn't there to be judged by the people I am trying to spend money with. When he did actually look at my vacuum cleaner, he found that another part needed to be replaced as well, and I happily pre-paid for the part, thinking that would be the end of it. A few weeks(!) later the part arrived and I went in to pick it up and perhaps have them install it. Long story short, I got a slightly better, but similar, attitude from the person working that day as well. This person said that it would cost at least $30 for them to even open the vacuum cleaner and install the part, even if it only took them 5 minutes to do. At least this person did offer to show me how to replace the part myself. I took everything home and tried to replace the part myself but failed. This is totally my fault, but after being treated so shabbily by Vacuum Cleaner Hospital I couldn't bring myself to go back there a third time. I ended up calling A. Clayton Vacuum Cleaner in Durham. The contrast could not have been more stark. The person there installed the part in less than 5 minutes, charged $15, and told me that the vacuum cleaner has plenty of life left in it, and when I'm ready for a new one to come back to him because he has all kinds of vacuum cleaners: new and refurbished, and lots of choices. That's a sales pitch that actually works. Address the customer's needs first, then sell them on the new stuff. Mr. Clayton now has my business for today and tomorrow. And I might just buy a fancy Euro vacuum cleaner someday... only it will be from him and not VCH. read more
