I wanted to get an extra battery for my GoPro HERO3 after realizing one isn't enough for a full day of snowboarding. I remembered seeing a GoPro kiosk in the T.O.store a while back so I googled 'Val Surf Thousand Oaks' and Yelp was one of the first links that came up. I gave them a call and they quickly confirmed that they had one in stock. Stopped by on my lunch break and was rang up and out of there in a few minutes. I definitely like this location more than the Valley one, though they don't have as much of a selection, it seems. Reading some of the negative reviews, if you expect people to run up to you and be in your grill as soon as you enter, I can see how you don't like it. Unbelievably fabulous customer service!! I emailed them late on 12/23 to let them know that I had not received the gift card I ordered on 12/12 and that the tracking number had no further information after 12/14 and asked what I should do. The fabulous Jesse emailed me back 12/24 to let me know he would drop one off to me on his way home from work. Really?!! How great is that?!! Went in today to get my son son Olukai flip flops. When entering the store 1 of 5 employees working said hi. We were in the store for about 30 minutes, not 1 employee asked if we needed any help. All while all of them were laughing and joking around with each other. I could not find what I was looking for so I found one of the employees to ask if they had the Olukai flip flops in my sons size. He responded with a nasty no. Didn't offer any further answer or assistance. I had already found shoes for myself and had a gift card. I waited inline for about 7 minutes. 1 person was in front of me and 1 employee working the register. The 4 others were still joking and engaging in personal conversation, while myself and a 3rd customer were waiting to pay. When it was my turn to pay the employee asked if anyone helped me. I let her know that no one did. I let her know we specifically were looking for Olukai for my son and she offered to order them to the store for me. Which was a nice offer but a little to late. My husband was also in the store trying to look as travel bags & sunglasses not 1 employee approached him or offered to open the sunglass case or help him with the travel bags. In conclusion today Val Surf Lost out on 150.00 sunglass purchase 80.00 shoe purchase And a travel bag purchase. The only reason I purchased anything is because I had a gift card. Wish I could give them more stars. The customer service here is not only amazing, but so is the way their business is run. I bought a Snowboard at Skidazzle from Zumiez that didnt include all the parts (the channel inserts). First I went to Zumiez who directed me to Sports Chalet, and then Sports Chalet refused s to sell the item without an ENTIRE BOARD (insane for a $10 part! they told me I had to contact Burton directly). The plan to leave for the slopes first thing in the a.m. was dissolving quickly, and it being the day after New Years many places were closing early. In a panic I called Val Surf (convinced they wouldnt have them, but desperate), who had the pieces but were closing that moment. I rushed over and lo and behold the entire crew had stayed to help me out! They let me in, and sold me a stomp pad and those forsaken channels. To make sure everything went smoothly, they stayed even later and got my board COMPLETELY set up! They were kind and helpful, gave me advice and explained things clearly to me to help me better understand my bindings. I will ALWAYS go to Val Surf now first! Thank you guys!!!!! read more

One of the few legitimate shops where the workers actually participate in the sports they advertise and sell goods for. This isn't your typical mall skate shop, the people here genuinely want to help you with anything you aren't clear about. The shop has a great selection of core brands in Surfing, Skateboarding and Snowboarding. While some brands are expensive, there are many reasonably prices items that are quality products. I also love to know that I'm supporting my local(ish) shop and not feeding into a corporation run by people who call skateboarding wheels "tires" read more

Really hate to write a bad review cause I used to know the manager at this place and have been going for years. Went into val surf to buy a new snowboard / googles for the season. Walked in and 2 workers are chatting away about whitening their teeth and other ****. I walk around looking at all the boards for 15 min not one person came to help or ask if I needed help. 1 guy in the rental area didn't say a word either so I bought 1 item and left. Headed to give my business to sports ltd from now on. Place has gone really down hill. Lost my business for good. read more

I bought a pair of goggles here instead of online because I wanted to shop locally. The goggles were close to $40, so I very specifically asked if I could return them if the didn't work for me. I was assured that I could. I would not have purchased them otherwise as leaky goggles are worse than no goggles. I swam with them once, for a lap, and knew they were not for me. When I tried to return them today, I was asked if I used them. Being an honest person, I said once. The young lady who was helping me asked another ( older) associate for help. I was told they do not accept merchandise,that has been used. I explained that their sales person assured me I could try them and bring them back if there was a problem. The guy then says "he probably thought you wanted to just try them on". I said I could have done that in the store. Trying goggles involves water. He would not honor what his salesperson led me to believe and was rude and unapologetic. I would have gladly taken store credit and was actually going to get a more expensive item. Customer service is one of the reasons I shop in stores and not online. I can cross Val Surf off of that list. read more

Wow! Thank you, thank you for the superb service. My son is on the Surf Team at Los Cerritos and we needed to replace the tailpad on his board. Bret who is on staff not only helped us with cleaning the board and applying the new pad, he gave my son tips on how to care for his board. We are new to surfing and were fortunate to come across staff members that were both knowledgeable and went out of there way to be helpful. read more

I try to give my business to local places like Val Surf versus the bigger chains but the horrible service makes it tough. Went in today to exchange Xmas shoes for bigger size. Got there right when they opened and was greeted by the overpowering smell of pot and 4 glassy eyed employees. Nice and professional. After an employee checked in store and a couple other stores for my size I was told they didn't have so I asked for a refund. After several minutes it was determined due to "policy" I could not get a refund and needed to come back with the cardholder as it was a Christmas gift from my son (Who is out of town and no doubt I will have another issue with extended time when we do return). It was clear I wanted the shoes and was not trying to scam them but the lack of flexibility and logic versus any large store or even better on line, made this a frustrating and time consuming process. Other than getting my refund, last time Val Surf gets my business. There are just too many other client focused stores out there with well run staff. read more
