I really wanted to like this place but...I ordered the juevos rancheros Christmas and the green chili was very good, red not so much. I paid $14.95, a lot for 2 eggs; they were very stingy with the beans, cheese and potatoes. I think those are relatively cheap items but the portions were measly. Won't go there again. Will go to Tomasita's or Tia Sophia's where they serve ample portions. read more

It's a small "hole in the wall" spot in a small strip mall but don't let this turn you away, because you're going to miss some of the best tasting Mexican / New Mexico food around. we went to Santa Fe for just 5 days and came here twice! While every other place had an hour wait, Valentinas never had one, and the service was quick. The food was delightful, i had some tamales, beans, and rice, with some red chili sauce on the side and it was so so good, also it was actually spicy, more-so that a multitude of other places's chili sauce. The sopapillas on the side were the best we had in santa fe, and pouring honey on top acts as the best defense against the heat of the dishes. The whole restaurant felt homy and there was a pretty mural on the orange walls, which was so pretty. 5/5 would go again! read more

To add insult to injury, you have to pay for the cold stale chips. The queso tasted like watered down Tostitos queso. The salsa a was bland which is really hard to do in NM. I really enjoyed their carne adovada enchiladas (stacked and they didn't give any choice). The red Chile and frijoles were tasty and hearty, the dips pulls excellent! The house margarita was too sweet tho, and the posole was a bit dry. No chips and salsa but the service was good. Overall a solid 3. I love Valentina's - their green chile is excellent (the first meal I ordered there was a green chile beef stuffed sopapilla and it was incredible). Their breakfast burritos are large and delicious and the Valentina's soup is a nice option for having something a little lighter (it's a tomato based broth with peices of potato, avocado and carrots a sprinkling of chickpeas and cilantro and topped with crispy tortilla strips. The chicken is breast meat and left in big, shredded chunks,l. I wondered if it could be ordered without chicken because it didn't seem to be cooked in the soup). The only think I've had that I don't recommend are the tacos. But with the other menu options that's not a problem. I'm so glad I found this spot! read more

Extremely rude service. We went in for one margarita and the lady refused unless we bought "chips and salsa". We were next door for one drink because we heard good things. Absolutely no good things. They were rude the entire time after we did buy food though we weren't hungry at all. Now have a to go box of something and that is not going to be eaten. It also smells disgusting inside. read more

Excellent customer service by a lovely human, Teresa, who went out of her way to make us feel welcome and taken care of. My husband ordered the carne azada, oddly from the breakfast menu, and it was a rare find and truly deliciously seasoned meat (coming from a Texan meat lover). I had the vegetarian sopapillas and had to try the green and red chili and it was pretty good. The handmade, thick flour tortillas were good as well. We sat outside because the band was pretty loud and unpleasant (coming from a native Mexican who has heard much better versions of all of those songs). read more

Hands down one of our favorites. One of the Doctors I work with recommended to come here and it never disappoints. Personally I can't stay away from the fajitas or veggie quesadilla and my Husband swears by their Huevos Rancheros. Authenticity, it is rare to find. When we walked into Valentina's we knew we had something authentic. It was in an unassuming strip mall area with not much of a sign. Really the only way we knew about the place was word of mouth. My cousin had mentioned it when we were talking about great Mexican restaurants in town. We found it was enough, it was right off Alameda. We walked into a joint that felt local. No over-the-top stuff hanging from the ceiling, no mariachi music blasting to make it feel "more Mexican", just a decent place with some tables. it did have a nice pallet of color and decor. A couple Frida paintings were up, and a calming mural of a countryside. We grabbed a standard booth and perused the menu. It had all the staples you could ask for. Thing was, I wanted everything. When the waitress came over I asked for something with a tomal, a enchilada, and a chili relleno. She said that's not on the menu but I will make it for you. *hearts!* Everything came out within 15 minutes, hot and ready. We were not led astray, it was the best Mexican I had had in a while. The enchilada was on point; the salsa was tangy goodness, the rest of the plate was perfection. I wish this review seemed more of a love letter. Wow, I just had the best soup I've ever had in my life, no joke. The Valentina's Soup is chicken, potatos, garbanzos (or maybe hominy?), chipotle, and tortilla strips. To me it's kind of like a mix between tortilla soup and pozole. The flavor was TOP NOTCH. I also ordered the sopapilla (my first time) and it was really decadent. Meaty, cheesy, doughy goodness. I got Christmas chile which is both red and green, and the red was a little hot for my taste. My boyfriend got the stuffed sopapilla, and he loved his too. Valentinas is a fantastic hole in the wall in a strip mall. They actually have a pretty decent sized space, but it is not fancy. The service was friendly and attentive. This may be my favorite place to get classic, old school New Mexican/Mexican food in Santa Fe and have been coming here for years. The staff is very nice and considerate with refills. Love the simple, unpretentious ambiance. Cute art and roomy seating. If you like spicy Red or Green Chile, this is the place to go. So many other places in SF cater to out-of-towners and never make it spicy enough. The red chile is probably my favorite in Santa Fe. The food never disappoints. Good sized portions and served hot from the kitchen. Good vegetarian options for my veggie family members, but I love the carnitas burrito and the pork tamales. I have never eaten Valentinas before.i just happened to be at the Casa Solana Center conducting business. I had a hankering for blue corn something. I contemplated calling in an order at La Choza but I saw Valentinas decided to stop in for take out. Man greeted me in a kinda of cordial manner. He mostly seemed bored. I asked questions about his favorite thing eat there. He made a suggestion but I still could not decide. One table had customers and two people came to pick up their food. The man walked away to talk to the kitchen staff. Two servers just stared me as I stood there. Finally one of them asked if I were ready she was just as bored but showed impatience. She rudly took my money and snarled it will be ten minutes. Though food was delicious I will never go to Valentinas again. I should ordered from La Choza at least the servers, bar tenders have manners, treat the customers with respect and dignity. read more

The food and atmosphere is so much better than anyplace at or near the Plaza. It's a local joint that is making New Mexican food plan and simple. No long waits for a loud and annoying atmosphere found near the Plaza or many other high rated restaurants. Valentinas is a quiet slow pace with excellent food. They have some of the best red sauce in the area and the green is the best in the area. Visiting from Portales and tried this place out with our kids. We just wanted to stay in our casual clothes and enjoy a delicious meal without needing to wait forever (it was a Saturday evening) with our 3 and 6 year old. The food at this place is SO delicious. We had an enchilada plate and a smothered breakfast burrito and both were phenomenal. The best New Mexican we've had in the last 3 years, hands down. And although my husband and I don't normally care for sopapillas, theirs looked tasty and we tried them... And then couldn't put them down. They were thick and warm and the entire family enjoyed them. If you're looking for "atmosphere", this probably isn't your place.
