Visiting from Portales and tried this place out with our kids. We just wanted to stay in our casual clothes and enjoy a delicious meal without needing to wait forever (it was a Saturday evening) with our 3 and 6 year old. The food at this place is SO delicious. We had an enchilada plate and a smothered breakfast burrito and both were phenomenal. The best New Mexican we've had in the last 3 years, hands down. And although my husband and I don't normally care for sopapillas, theirs looked tasty and we tried them... And then couldn't put them down. They were thick and warm and the entire family enjoyed them. If you're looking for "atmosphere", this probably isn't your place. But if you want good food and large portions, with attentive service at great prices, look no further. read more

I went here in mid-August with a friend of mine at around 6PM on a Saturday. I'm from out of town but lived in SF for many years in the 80s and I used to work at Tomasitas. I wanted to get some New Mexican food - like, every meal while I was in town. For this meal we tried all the usual places (including Tomasitas). PACKED. We went to Valentinas (which even my local friend had never been to.) It was spectacular. No not Michelin 3-stars, but down-home New Mexican food and service like it used to be in the 80s - locals only, friendly service, empty tables on a Saturday night, unpretentious decor, outstanding adovada, great salsa and chips, perfect sopaipillas. I'm a little nervous even posting this in case it gets mobbed by tourists, but frankly they deserve it. Skip the packed "name" places. This is it. read more

The food was so disappointing- everything needed salt, the chips were cold and hard, the "salsa" was a watered-down chili sauce (similar to what you'd get in an Asian restaurant), and the queso tasted like the jarred stuff. I came to this lovely little restaurant on my first trip to Santa Fe. I'm from Texas, and I also know what great, authentic Mexican Food tastes like being that my mother is Latina, always cooking homemade meals. The food was fantastic. I ordered chips and guacamole as an appetizer. Pico de gallo was put in the guacamole and three little dishes of three different salsas came with the order as well, which was pleasantly surprising. Our entrees came out quickly, and ohhhh my goodness. Mine was delicious. (I put up a picture: Suiza's Chicken Enchiladas. It was a special though.) The rice was moist, which, to me, is a good sign. We have come to Santa Fe for years. The city is full of restaurants and some of the best food in the world. Some people focus only on the high end locations or well known ones close to the Plaza. But if you want great New Mexican food at a good price, go off the beaten path and come to Valentina's. We stumbled on this place a few years ago when we were headed back into town after spending the day in Los Alamos. It's in a strip center so it might be easy to discount it and overlook what's really there. But truly this is some of the best authentic New Mexican food in the city - and we've eaten a lot of it over 30+ years not to mention my mom was a native New Mexican. The staff is friendly. There is a small outdoor eating area even though it's on the parking lot. Inside is standard restaurant decor but very colorful. But the food really sets it apart. The green chile is amazing, and yes, it's hot. But you're in New Mexico, so if you're looking for mild salsa and chile, you probably need to stick with Chili's. This isn't Tex-Mex. It's sooo much better. We've never tried the red chile so I can't give a review for it. The green is our favorite. We can't get green chile in Arkansas. I usually love a green chile enchilada, but Valentina's has stuffed sopapillas with your choice of stuffing. It's hard to beat that. My husband and I both get them. They also have mole but we haven't tried it yet. They serve posole as a side item which also isn't something you find very often outside of New Mexico. Posole is hominy with really good flavor. Sopapillas are also served and they're huge. I think Valentina's serves breakfast as well. We've never tried it, but we're heading to Santa Fe soon and might just give it a shot. If it's as good as everything else, we might decide this is the place for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Enjoy the Plaza and the famous, tourist locales, but do yourself a favor and add this to your must eat list too. read more

My husband and I ate dinner here tonight and it was delicious! I had the vegetarian burrito, smothered in green chile. On the side were yummy beans and rice, along with a perfect sopaipilla. My husband had an enormous green chile cheeseburger that practically made his eyes roll back in his head, it was so good. We didn't have any margaritas or other liquor, but the ladies at the table behind us ordered the one size Margarita the restaurant serves and it was huge! (And they told us it was very good, too.) We have been here three times and have never been disappointed. Authentic Mexican food with a New Mexican twist. Unassuming, casual, delicious. We highly recommend Valentina's Restaurant. read more

I have no issues with their food, have been a customer for years, however, today was the final time I set foot in this establishment. I cannot support a business where the frontend workers spend time talking trash about their customers. I did not appreciate having staff talk and make comments as they laughed and gestured, and this was highly unprofessional and immature. I don't think they understand that customers are what keeps them employed. It is the job of their hosts to maintain that customer base going and a level of professionalism. I am cutting all ties with Valentna's and will take my business elsewhere. These two individuals have not been there very long, and I hope management takes the proper steps. It is a shame that grown adults working as hosts cannot do a proper job without acting like high school teenagers. This childish behavior does nothing but destroy whatever positive reputation they have built over the years. I was planning on taking my family there this coming week because I have enjoyed their food, but this has left a very sour taste. I should have just left my food there without paying but I was raised right and would not punish the rest of the staff on the failure of two fools! Completely earned five stars. I would sit here and list everything that was good with our food, but I'm about to slip into a food coma. That was the best meal we've had so far in Santa Fe. People were friendly, place smelled delicious and was it fill with Hispanics when we arrived (a good sign). The gringos didn't show up until right before the Mariachi Band. Yes, Thursday night's @ 6:30, a live Mariachi band. I can't wait to go back. The menu covers all the bases without being overwhelming. I do not recommend this restaurant. Way over priced for what you get on the plate. We left there looking back at the menu online wondering how in the world we just spent so much for what we got. Chips and salsa is not complimentary, but you won't know that until they charge you $9 for hard chips and a small cup of salsa. Salsa was incredibly hot. We can handle hot, but this was eye watering hot. Service was okay. Margaritas were expensive to have no tequila and lots of sugar. Wow, can't believe all the 5 star reviews, I'm being generous giving 2. The guacamole was not fresh. 3 salsas, and all 3 were bland and mild, no spice, no flavor. The margarita menu was 1 drink long, obviously an off the shelf mix and cheap tequila, and weak. Then the main dishes came, more blandness. Bland beans. Bland taco meat, literally just cooked ground beef. Plain dry posole. Fajita meat that tasted like unseasoned low grade beef. At least the red chile had some flavor, hard to take the flavor out of that, but it tasted like it started with a burnt flour roux. Nothing here was "the best in town" as proclaimed in several reviews, not even close. I swear, some of you yelpers have no clue what good food is. You should do the rest of us a favor and stay off yelp if you're going to throw 5 stars around so easily. Lately we can't get enough of this place! The food is absolutely amazing and the service has gotten so much better than when we came the first time, they were still new then. I am in love with the Chorizo Breakfast Burrito smothered with Green Chile. I tried the tacos too, they were so delicious! We adore the staff, little did they know that we'd become regulars...but we warned them that we'd be back again and again. I want this place to stay a hidden secret, but I also want them to succeed. GREAT PLACE!! What a wonderful surprise is Valentinas I didn't think we needed another Mexican restaurant, but this is so much more. First, they have all the typical fare, tacos, enchiladas, etc. However, what they also have are wonderful dishes made with local green chili and wonderful fresh ingredients that are so full of flavor. It is not like any other Mexican restaurant in the area. The place is comfortable, has a patio, and is a friendly place to eat. The staff is wonderful and makes the dining experience even better. Sopapias (forgive my spelling) are the bomb too. I'd highly recommend the chorizo done "Xmas" which is both red and green chile. I'm not from SF. The phone-book of a menu can be intimidating, but know that every single item is worthy of your taste buds. I've eaten at Valentina's numerous times now and each time I've been able to get something different that blows me away. The burritos are massive and stuffed. The meats are all great quality. The green chile is some of the best I've had. And while the red chile isn't quite as great, it does the job. Now, the sopapillas. Let it be known that Valentina's sopapillas are the new reigning champion of Santa Fe's sopapilla offerings. Everything is just outstanding, outstanding, outstanding. Prices are below average for this quality. We ate outside, but inside ambiance looked casual, friendly, and typical laid-back NM. Partner had green chile chicken enchiladas, also excellent and not as hot today as the red. BUT THE RED!! It lit up all the happy parts of my brain - probably the reasons the Anasazi had no word for depression. I see several high marks for the sopapillas, and heartily agree. Also agree with reviewer who advocated changing to some quality, local honey (the thick stuff with the dark amber color would be worth another $2). That's enough. We loved the place. read more
