Valenzano Winery in Shamong, NJ is a family operated business, ran by the sweetest and most welcoming staff! I came on a cold winters day, so we obviously had to sit inside. Their tasting room is beautiful but super cozy. I immediately felt relaxed the second I walked in. The winery is surrounded by forest and farmland. A picturesque landscape to admire while you drink wine! We sampled a bunch of their wines, and I finally tried their famous Shamong Blush and I get the hype now. It was smooth, sweet and went down easily. I really also enjoyed the Shamong Red and the Perfect Pear! Highly recommend doing a flight to sample different types of wines. They do have food onsite which they get from Summit Catering -- at the time of our visit (February 2025), we got the flatbread, cheeseboard, mac & cheese bites, and baked brie. Everything paired so well with the wine and just made it feel like a whole experience, not just a tasting. This is such a good spot to spend the day with your people. Date night, girls' day, family time -- you could easily hang here for hours like we did! And their event space is so pretty. If you're planning a wedding, shower, birthday -- this would be such a dreamy place to celebrate. If you need weekend plans, this is your sign. This was totally worth the hour drive! read more

The food was delicious. We had two small plates, the buratta spread and the whipped feta cheese with butternut squash. The service was great and attentive. The place was nicely decorated for Christmas and there was a Santa near the entrance as well. A holiday market was happening as well which was a nice activity after eating and drinking! There was a calendar of events near the front. The wine selection was decent and they had some great holiday specials. I got the mulled wine and it was well seasoned and at the perfect temperature. I'm torn between two and three stars. The biggest thing is the service was poor. I felt extremely uncomfortable there. Went on a Saturday evening for dinner and drinks. The place was almost empty. It was a party of two including myself, we were seating at a table in the back room by the window. There was only one other table of two people there. The host gave us water but besides that no one came. 20 minutes past and a couple was seating to the table somewhat near us. They were helps a few minutes later, and still no one came to my table. We kept looking around making it obvious we haven't been helped but no one came. I couldn't help but notice I was the only person of color in the place. My friend and I moved ourselves to the bar and spent the evening there. I think the women's name is Kathleen? She was lovely. She chatted with us gave us recommendations and made it a nice time. But I still couldn't shake my uncomfortable feeling. The wine is ok I think most of them would taste better if they aged for some time. Seems very right from the vine. The food was yummy, especially the sweet toast Batch 3 - apples figs and goat cheese I think it was. Very fall flavors and sweet it was good I'd have it again. The place is pretty but definitely looks and I'm sure functions more as a venue. If I go back it would probably be for a nice dinner and that's all. The Mother's Day picnic/vendor craft was awful. There was one place to buy bottles of wine. It was the same place for tasting and LONG lines were confusing. Awful there were 6 Portapotties for the entire crowd. The winery will have a count of the people and I am positive that there is a ratio of people to potties that is code. I'm going to check on this and report it to the township/county. Awful. I have never experienced such disregard for human beings at an event. I will tell everyone I know on social media and will never attend a wine festival at Valenzano again. Shame on you. read more

What a great experience we had at the Bari Wine Pub, Our server, Dana E, was the absolute best, three in our party ordered wine tastings, we could mix, and match all the different choices from their extensive wine menu, and after ordering appetizers Dana told us which wines we ordered would pair well with the different foods that we chose, that was so awesome. We ordered ordered crab cakes, Duxelle Mushroom Toast, Caesar salad with chicken, and quiche The Food was for good, the one hiccup was the chicken in the Caesar salad was extremely salty. I am familiar with some of their great Shamong brand wines and decided to add a couple more that I haven't tried, one was a plum, and another was a port, both were outstanding and are two more added to my favorites. I am really looking forward to our next visit to this excellent local winery, and will be sure to visit on the weekend when Dana is there. read more

I wanted to review the Wine Wonderland Party table option at Valenzano. I was able to book a week ahead of the date (I would book before that if possible for better time slots). The reservation was for 4:30p, 10 people, included 3 bottle of wines and a cheeseboard. I was able to pay at the time of the reservation. The slot was from 4:30p-7p. We were quickly seated upon arrival. The waitress and staff were attentive and helpful with wine selections. My husband enjoyed a wine flight and the various wine selections at the table. We ordered food and everything for the most part was tasty (some options needed a bit of salt & pepper). Keep in mind their food menu is limited. Oh yea, Valenzano Winery's WineFest 2022 was a great time!! Tasting from several wineries, listening to music, eating food, socializing, and, thankfully, enjoying the sunshine! This was my first year attending the WineFest, and I was happily invited to a group of 15. We were VIP, so we did not have to wait in a long line, came with Valenzano's wine glass, and had a reserved tent with chairs provided. We brought our portable folding chairs, food, and you can bring in Valenzano's wines, which we did, etc. and enjoyed each other's company. Wasn't able to try all the wineries that were at the WineFest, but Valenzano's Jersey Devil Batch # 3 (apple cider wine aged in bourbon barrels and blended maple syrup) and Villari Vineyards' One Nation 21 Blue (blend of blueberries and apples) were my favorites! Everyone from the hostess to the bartender to our waitress to the gift shop attendant was *extremely* helpful, knowledgeable, accommodating & friendly. The premises is lovely, well-maintained & super clean (including the bathrooms). Our home grown flight, as well as the whipped ricotta, chicken spring salad & chicken parm were all delicious. A family friend was playing at Valenzano on a Friday night in June and we were planning on visiting to see him play. We arrived a little after 5pm and to our surprise it wasn't very busy. They have very large and beautiful venue. We chose to sit inside as that's where the band was playing. We also had our choice between the bar and high tops, we chose the bar. Every Thursday and Friday in the summer they have their Happy Hour which is 50% off glasses of wine (excluding Destinations Selections, but includes their Fizz.) The majority of their pours are $6 ($3 on happy hour) and many of their bottles are $13. We thought this was a great deal. Our bartender, Isaiah, was very friendly, had a great sense of humor, knowledgeable about the wine list, and was able to make some great recommendations. Most of what we had was on the sweeter side, which my dad enjoys. I prefer drier reds and sweeter whites. We started with a glass of Strawberry Merlot, Blackberry Syrah, and White Sangria. The 3 of us enjoyed our first glasses. Then I ordered a glass of the Jersey Devil Port which I really enjoyed and my mom had a glass of the Cabernet Sauvignon (I tried it and that was my favorite wine of the night.) We finished by ordering a couple of bottles, Plums Up and Berry White Cranberry, to split once happy hour was over. They do have a food menu that includes a handful of appetizers and entrees as well as some cheese trays that can be customized with different meats. We ordered the Bavarian Pretzels and loved them. The cheese they're served with is made with Brotherton IPA which happens to be from one of our favorite breweries. We had a cheese tray too which I wasn't too crazy about and seemed like it was a little pricey for what you get. Overall our experience was great. I'm sure we'll be back again. It was a quiet Sunday but I made a reservation because the weather was questionable. I made it for inside with the food option and I ordered the cheese plate and fig flat bread pizza. The cheese plate offers various nuts, a few cheeses, yummy crackers, red grapes, honey, apple slices and marinated fruit. Diverse options and plenty to share. The pizza was good and the fig is sweet. LOVE. LOVE. LOVE. I am a big winery person and this hands down is top of my list. The bar/restaurant itself isn't the best decor but it's nice. Service was top notch! Everyone was super nice and informative. I sadly don't recall the name of the gentleman who did our tasting but he was a much older man (78 to be exact) and the girls and I chatted a bit with him. He was super friendly and really made our tasting perfect. You are given crackers and cheese with your tasting with 6 choices for $15. The dry wines are my style and loved them. Would def recommend trying the blueberry port wine and one of the fizz wines just to try. After that we ate at the restaurant and ADORED the food. It was literally delicious. My friend had a pizza which she said she thought was good. My other friend and I split a burger and wings as we wanted to try both. The burger was made perfectly and came with onion rings and fries. I was a bit rough on the Empire and feeling a bit contrite. Good wine is made here, just last week I brown bagged their OLD INDIAN MILLS BLEND and also had a Bordeaux Superieur and a darker berry fruit Sangiovese open made in Sonoma County. We tasted all 3, they knew what the other two were. I love doing it because as soon as someone sees it they say New Jersey!!!?? What are you giving us? Mind you they ask me for advice on all things wine because I know their palate and can choose between 2 or 10 wines what will appeal to them. The Old Indian Mills blend is made from Merlot and Chambourcin. If you're asking what Chambourcin is (expected - many industry people are unfamiliar with it), it's a grape you need to start checking out. Many wineries use it east of California and are making excellent wines. The day we had it, the nose was bright, ripe, plum and cherry, medium to light-bodied wine but a lot of nuances, reminded me of a Sangiovese - California style (not Italy because Italian wines are often higher acidity which goes better with food). It was delightful and my wine friends liked it a lot, one of them loved it. Surprised - maybe even disappointed to see they liked a wine that wasn't from Californ - I - A. Several years ago someone gave me a Rhubarb wine that was delicate and pretty, like a delicious off dry Rose'. Open your mind to what you're tasting not what you're reading on a label. If you had a wine 3 years ago that you didn't like, it's very possible that they have gotten better, or that the wine may be good, even though it's not your style (doesn't make it bad). read more

Richard was a great host exemplifying a platinum service. We travelled from NY, and it was so well worth it! My wife had the filet minion that was cooked perfectly and oh so tender and juicy. With a side of baked seasoned gourmet potatoes. Possibly my new favorite winery. Came here for a wine tasting/food pairing. The owner was incredibly enthusiastic about his wines and knew exactly what to pair them with. We tasted about 15 different wines and they were all perfectly paired with everything from cheese and grapes to peanut butter filled pretzels and fried chicken. The tasting was done in the room where the wines are aged and bottled. They set up two large banquet tables and some smaller tables around the back, all facing the front where the owner explained everything. The grounds are large and well manicured. Will absolutely be back in the warmer weather to enjoy the grounds. We left with 4 delicious bottles of wine. If you're a fan of sweeter wines this is the place for you! read more

Came here Saturday night. They have picnic tables outside with a bar code , where you can order wine and they're supposed to bring it out to you. Well after ordering the wine and waiting for about half an hour, I decide to go in. The cashier looks me up and down and says "sorry sir, we don't sell any wine - we have a private event. I said - you guys took my money and I've been waiting for 30 minutes for someone to bring it out. He says - oh, I'm unaware of that. Finally after some back and forth he decides to call someone and then begrudgingly hand me a $20 bottle of the finest NJ cranberry wine. After I asked him to open it, the guy says "sorry sir, I cannot do that". Basically we drove 20 minutes here and 20 minutes back, just to buy a bottle of overpriced cranberry juice. Bottom line - these guys need to realize that they're not exactly Napa Valley - people come here to recreate the experience of the real wine country and if you're going to charge people exuberant amount for crappy wine, at least try to provide an experience to go along with it. read more

Unfortunately, I have to give Valenzano two stars, the one as a minimum and another for ease of my initial wine tasting reservation. I made a reservation two and half weeks in advance to do a wine tasting for 8 people as a part of a bachelorette party. I have to say, that process was simple as could be. I was excited because it looks beautiful and the bride-to-be absolutely loves the wine. A week later, they called to relay that they needed to cancel or reschedule the reservation because they booked a private party. I just don't think it is great business to double book when a reservation is already made. The best they could do is offer a wine tasting that day hours earlier without the included cheese sampling because the kitchen would be reserved for the private party they double booked me with. I can't imagine setting aside cheeses is hard. It was disappointing to know they wouldn't even accommodate such a simple part of what they originally promised. Posting a review to warn others that your reservation isn't set in stone no matter how far in advance you plan. If it's for a special event that doesn't involve booking the entire place, I'd pick somewhere else. read more

Had a really fun time here on a Sunday! My husband and I came in kinda unsure of how things worked here, as we are frequent visitors of Sharrot that has a pretty mainstream setup. Nonetheless, the guys behind the bar were very kind and helpful in terms of figuring out how we wanted our experience to go. We put in an order for some snacks, and then did a tasting. The tasting cost $10 per person. You get a huge list of wines where you will select the 8 you want to try. 8 is definitely a lot! We both ended up getting a full glass at the end, and then our food was ready. Cheesesteak dumplings were very yummy! Small area for guests to drink wine, sit and relax... nothing like Sharrot or White Horse, but it is cute and cozy. It looks like they have a lot of space for events, but they didn't have a connected outdoor patio area which I think is definitely needed to compete with the rest! Overall I liked it and enjoyed quite a few wines, but not sure if I'd be back until they offered more in terms of atmosphere! Maybe in the summer when they do festival style outings. read more

I had SUCH A GREAT TIME!!!! The staff were super friendly on the phone and in-person. This wine tasting was different from some others I have been to. My friend and I got to chose 8 wines each that we wanted to taste. It was great to see all the wines they have that are not in the stores and hear about the new wines that are coming. I like how after we taste our choices you got a full glass and I do mean a full glass. On weekends it won't be as full as if you go on the weekends but you'll still have an amazing time. We started with the wine tasting (reservation required): it's only $15 per person on the weekends (half price Monday through Thursday), and includes 8 different wines of your choosing and a cheese and crackers platter. The staff was very friendly and knowledgeable and the wines were great! They had excellent sweet wines for me and really good dry wines for my boyfriend. The atmosphere was great. We made separate dinner reservations for an hour later and the timing was perfect. We got seating outside which I love, but their main dining area was nicely set up too. The food really impressed me. I honestly wasn't expecting it to be at the level that it was. I rarely give out 5-star reviews and Valenzano Winery earned every star in my opinion. We got the glazed bacon and Brussels sprouts for our appetizer and they were soooo good. For our main dish, I ordered the Mahi Mahi tacos and my boyfriend had the steak risotto. My wife and I hardly ever write reviews unless we genuinely feel strongly about a service or experience that we had. This is one of those rare cases! We definitely feel the need to share with the world the lovely day we had yesterday. We want to do a special shout out to Tracey who was working on 06/18 at Valenzano Winery while my wife and I celebrated our second year wedding anniversary. (Side note: this is our tradition since this was where we had our wedding reception June 18, 2021). Anyway, Tracey MADE OUR DAY! Beautiful! The Valenzano Winery's estate's grounds are well maintained and altogether gorgeous. Great for picture taking no matter where you stand or snap your shots. As I entered the building. The ambiance was warm and inviting. The interior was very clean, organized with walls of wines ready for tasting or to go to their new home. The attendants softly welcomed us and began to do what I call a soft sale. Samples, samples, and more samples. The attendant was very knowledgeable and made suggestions based on my taste preferences. The also serve food but we will try the food another day. My favorite is their best seller the Red Reserve. It is one of there sweeter red wines that is so smoothe and mellow. One glass is plenty for me. I prefer to sip it while kicked back with my husband while we watch a movie with fresh popped popcorn and not the microwave stuff. On a Saturday in October, I drove 45 minutes to pickup my friend and then we drove another 45 minutes out to this winery only to pull in, park and walk up to the main building and see a sign that said closed for private event. We checked their website for hours of operation and to view the menu, there was no mention of this. Pretty rude that we wasted a whole afternoon going to visit only for them to not be open when it said they were. Very disappointed and likely won't try to visit again. read more

Ok, I've had wine from this vineyard in the past; yes, very tasty and smooth. However, buying wine in a store is fine, but buying wine after a tour and tasting is tops. The tour guide today was Danny. He is a story teller. He has passion for wine and food and paints a mental picture as the tour and tasting unfolds. 15 different samples crossed my taste buds along with cheese, gourmet chicken/waffle combo (yes, very yummy), spreads and more. Danny, spoke of a possible dinner and wine deal that the owners must buy off on. Well, I'm in if y'all offer. Please offer. I plan on coming back in the fall for a different season tour. Legit had an amazing time at the tasting here at Valenzano Winery. I purchased a Groupon and used it to celebrate my four year wedding anniversary. Started with a tour of the facility, and I have to tell you our host, Dan, was nothing short of an-may-zing! We got to see the tanks the grapes ferment in, the vines they grow on, where the bottles were labeled, etc. Then it was time for the best part - Tasting!!! We were served a small cheese platter with grapes, crackers and honey. Some other wines were accompanied by chicken and waffles, chocolate cake and peanut butter crackers. It was insane how good the wines were. If you have an opportunity to come to this facility do yourself a favor and visit.
