I stopped by this Vallarta location to look for the Mexican coke in a glass bottle since I was already in the plaza. When I arrived, they were not busy since I came before lunch. When I walked inside, the store is very clean. I looked at their bakery area first just to see what kind of cakes they have. I like some of their design on a cake so maybe in the future. The soda are in aisle 1 but I didn't find what I was looking for. I walked around the store and went to the produce area. This is the first Vallarta that I seen have like small shops inside as well. I didn't find the glass bottle coke so I asked one of the cashier and she told me where it was. It's in the refrigerator near the produce area and I found what bottle I was looking for. Nice variety of hot Mexican foods, salsas, desserts, and some cold ready to go meals in the cold pick up area. I like that there are tables at the hot food stations so you could sit down and eat after. Beware, there isn't much staff in the hot food area so service can be a bit slow especially during lunch time... The dessert and bread options were great. I've tried the ube tres leches, and choco-flan. Both were most so I look forward to trying out more. The jalapeño cheese bread was ok, lots of cream cheese in the middle but not really any jalapeño. Hot tamales are near the cash registers, and I'll be trying that on my next visit. read more

We have been to this Vallarta few times we have family out here so this is our stop when we do not want to show up empty handed. This is a very nice Vallarta . it is big, clean and very well stocked. We are doing last minute camping shopping and we had to get our fresh vegetables, Drinks and seasonings. Everything was so easy to find. They had all we needed. Check out was easy and the cashier was friendly. i recommend this location. read more

I ordered my cake on 08/26 for pick up on 08/29 at 9 pm. I dont live far , like 20 mins away , as soon as I got home I put the cake in the fridge. We cut the cake on Sunday 08/30 at 1 pm and we didnt take it out of the fridge at all until we cut it. Guests threw the cake away because the milk from the tres leches cake was rotten. It tasted expired . With the party going on and everything I didnt think to call that day. I called on Monday 08/31 and spoke to Victor , very nice by the way he asked if I had the cake and I said half and he said no problem come on by when ever and we will give you a refund. After I got off work I went home to pick up the cake and drove back to Vallarta. The afternoon managers said they could only give me half a refund because I only brought back half the cake and that was their policy. Did they want me to get the cake out of the trash or ask guests to give it back to I could take the full cake back ? Its already embarrassing and unfortunate as it is . I dont remember the afternoon managers name but it was around 7:30 pm. He said why didnt you come back the day of or call the day of because we dont know if you left the cake out. I said Ive gotten cakes here before and Ive never had a problem and the dont go bad the day of or the next day , heck even the 3rd day . He made me feel like it was my fault their cake was bad. I did not leave the cake out , especially because its been so hot outside. Im not going to lie I was livid and rude but not because of the money but because they refuse to take responsibility. I wasn't even going to take half the refund but the fact that he insinuated it was our fault "because they didnt know if we left it out" or "because I didnt call or come in the day of" what did they want me to do leave the party for a bad cake. Its already an unfortunate experience, so let me continue to ruin my day to complain about a cake and not enjoy the rest of the party, who wants to do that . I will also be filling a complaint with the local food department for using expired or close to expiration products. Because there is no way a refrigerated cake could go bad in 1 day . Why would I want to ruin my nephews party or go out of my way just because I want to get a free cake which is basically what was being insinuated. Not sure what people's problem with this store is but in this economy they have great prices on fresh produce. Their fresh tamales are vastly better than the ones sold at the Friday Farmer's Market and the place is cleaner and better lit ambiance than most grocery chain stores in Simi. read more

Great food, but consistently terrible customer service. Every time my wife and I visit this location, we're ignored at the hot bar. Ironically, as soon as another customer--particularly Hispanic customers--steps up, an employee appears to assist them immediately. We've experienced this pattern repeatedly, and it has left us feeling as though we're being treated differently. Another issue is the language barrier. In a customer-facing business operating in the United States, employees should be able to communicate effectively in English, especially when assisting customers. The inability to communicate makes an already frustrating experience even worse. Additionally, basic measurements should not be a challenge. Several employees in the deli and hot food areas seemed unfamiliar with simple requests such as a quarter pound, half pound, or one-third pound. This creates unnecessary confusion and delays. Finally, what upset us the most was feeling like we were being watched as though we intended to steal. My wife and I were well dressed, polite, respectful, and simply trying to enjoy a meal. Being treated with suspicion without any justification is insulting and unacceptable. The food is genuinely good, but the repeated poor customer service, communication issues, and the way we've been treated have made us question whether we'll return. I hope management takes these concerns seriously and works to ensure all customers are treated with equal respect and professionalism read more

Yikes! I've been home sick for over a week. All I've been craving is soup. Tired of the canned stuff, when Dear Hubby asked me what I wanted while he was out running errands, I asked for soup. My suggestion was to go to Panera Bread. He thought that was too far from his location, so went in to Vallarta to La Cocina department. He's brought home various cake slices from there previously, plus fresh fruit, and other items. I can't recall any hot foods from there before tonight. He chose albondigas, which should be a good choice. Oh my gosh - someone in La Concina lost control of the salt shaker. The broth of the soup is salty like the Dead Sea or the Great Salt Lake. Wowsa! I'm barely able to tolerate the plentiful meatballs on their own, avoiding the broth part. For my preference, the chunks of vegetables are overly large. Seems like someone was too lazy to cut them down to more manageable pieces. If I were to try to order this again, I would ask for a sample of the broth to make sure that it was seasoned appropriately, and not to a stroke-inducing level. This is the nicest Vallarta I've ever seen! So big, spacious, and clean. Plenty of parking as well. They offer fresh produce and meats. I was making cochinita pibil, so I got pork, plantain leaves, Oranges, habanero, and a bunch of spices. They have a huge assortment of spices! Everyone I interacted with was polite. Two weeks in a row we went and got pre made salsas, two mild and one extra spicy. The extra spicy wasn't spicy at all and the milds were the hottest thing iv ever had in my life. La Cocina- I was patient and understand its holidays. I placed online order and called to change the time 2 days prior. Unfortunately, online does not allow you to update time for pick up. I spoke to kind people. When I arrived to pick my order said would not be ready 23 mins. I again wanted to be patient and kind during holiday season can be stressful. When it was time. I waited back on online order pick up where a colleague saw I returned and asked her colleague to assist me and instead the colleague let this man cut in front and assisted him. I waited even longer. At this point I am furious. I lost a whole hour waiting g for an online order to be prepared and watched as she scooped up from the hot and ready instead of it being fresh. So, I came in this morning to buy a breakfast plate. I told them that I only wanted egg whites. Scrambled egg whites , No meat or anything else that comes with it. I picked up my food and drove to work. When I got work I noticed that my eggs where swimming in oil and it seems like they only put 2 eggs and they where not even scrambled... I don't know what they did. I'm pissed, I'm mad, upset and everything else related to those three words I just mention. I paid for my food and that's what I got plus the woman making my food looked mad. I bought cheese from them this afternoon and when I opened the package there was mold on it. I spoke to the manager who told me to bring the cheese and my receipt, when I went I asked for an exchange. When I went up to the register, he still made me pay the difference of the cheese I took. Instead of price matching for THEIR mistake, I still had to pay.... Not cool. He said sorry but it did not seem genuine, he wasn't professional and when I asked why I had to pay the difference he said the cheese I had taken was a different price. I'm very upset that I had to drive all the way down late at night and pay after the inconvenience they provided. Definitely not a happy customer.... Be careful with the prepackaged cheese! How unfortunate. We called in advance and spoke to the meat market, asking to see if they had specific types of meat (picanha and skirt steak) available. They said yes, but knowing picanha isn't common in the US, we clarified que este es Brasilero y ellos dijeron si si si conozco, cutting us off mid sentence. They asked how much we needed and we said only 2-3lb, initially they were worried like we needed 20-30lb but after hearing only 2-3lb they said absolutely no problem come on in. We arrived two hours later and no one in the entire meat department had ever heard of picanha (or rump/sirloin cap) nor did they know what skirt steak was. I absolutely love Vallarta! The wide variety of fresh foods, meats, produce, bakery items, and hot food cafe meals are out of this world! I love the atmosphere and the selection of foods from different cultures to include Hispanic, Caribbean, and more! There is plenty of parking in the parking lot and the carts are very large to accommodate all of your groceries. The aisles in the store are very wide to give shoppers plenty of room to move about. This review is about the bakery. I ordered a cake for my husband there, requesting to have it ready at 10 am because it's a very busy day today. The young lady who took the order was very nice, professional and thorough. She wrote down the colors I wanted (dark blue and purple) What I wanted it to say, (Happy Birthday Jeff) and what color I wanted the whipped cream frosting to be (plain white was fine) She even wrote it all in Spanish also, explaining to me that the 'lady who decorates the cakes will understand it better' When I picked the cake up, the lady at the counter put it in the basket and handed me only the register receipt back,which I thought was odd, but then I got a look at the cake. I figure she must have seen it didn't match what was ordered also. As mentioned, I don't have a lot of time today, so I couldn't have them remake it. This lavender, light blue and pink cake is what I got. In the photo you really can't see the iridescent glittery sparkles that were added to the frosting! Love coming to Vallarta for all kinds of Mexican food, fresh tortillas, the juice bar and hard to find ingredients. Their entire produce section prices are almost always lower than any grocery store and most cases alot better quality. I'm not a fan of the hot food served there but that's really the only thing I'm not a fan of here. The people are always nice and helpful when I'm looking for something specific and make sure they are with you until you find whatever it is you need. Their seasoned carne asada at the deli is a favorite, but one the most underrated items there is the preseasoned pork spare ribs. They cook very quickly and are very tasty. From avocados, limes, tajin, cilantro, crema, chamoy, etc.... When I'm the mood for for some Mexican faire, this is the only place for me. read more

This review is solely on the cake bakery and for them to improve from this. I love coming here for groceries and meat. I have never gotten a cake. It was my birthday and my husband brought me to customize my birthday cake. I went through the questions and the worker wrote it down on the cake form. What color, the filling, the writing, design, etc. it was supposed to say happy birthday on it. It did not. It was supposed to have the straw berry filling found out cutting into it, it did not. It was regular white filling. Also it was pink and I don't know what dye they use but my tongue was pink the next day after scrubbing and scrubbing my toddlers hands and mouth were still pink after a bath and scrubbing with soap and a loofah. Then the daycare said sorry tmi but it even turned their stool pink! They should use something else I have never had any frosting anywhere else do this. The one star which should be a zero, is for the deli. The market itself has a wide variety of groceries, vegetables and fruits. No grip there! But the deli food is another story. Just threw out our dinner - beans, salsa, and a whole grilled chicken that was dripping wet in oil!! How is that even possible when it is supposed to be grilled. The chicken was tasteless and frankly tasted stale. The whole cooked beans was actually slimy!! The salsa smelled funky as well. So disappointed!! I love Vallarta. Their produce is awesome, their bakery is amazing ! I think Vallarta's Tres Leches Cake is better than Porto's. Their meat and poultry are priced affordable. The one star is for their prepared food. I did a taste test for carne asadas and taquitos for a fund raiser. Their prices are Rey good but the food flavor left a lot to be desired. I'm raised in a household of Mexican some who were good cooks. I know what certain dished should tast like and how they're made. Of course each person has their own tecipe and different tastes. My kids went to Vallarta to bring me some Albondigas because I was down with a cold. There's nothing like Albondigas when you're under the weather. I was so underwhelmed by these Albondigas I think you need a quality and consistency task force. 1. The broth was a clear mop-flavored water. 2. The size of the zucchini and carrots could have Choked a horse. The zuchinni was tough & Stringy. 3. The carrot was the size of an Oreo cookie and Not cooked. 4. The Albondiga looked like it was made from Chicken paste and egg. Flavorless. Hard. I was totally disappointed on Vallarta's cooking. The layout of this location is great.Lots of space to get around and do your shopping.The employees whole assisted me at the meat department also did a great job.Now on the weekends it does get busy,so I would suggest you get a number,located in the middle of the meat department. Bigger does not always mean better and this may be the case of Vallarta Supermarket in Simi Valley. I am happy that this old furniture store is finally occupied because this shopping center was becoming quite the eye sore over the past few years. The supermarket is huge and very well lit. At the time I went there was hardly any customers in the store so it was literally wide open spaces during my shopping experience. I did enjoy the elbow room when I was shopping but the vast amounts of wasted space seemed like such a waste. Also, there were products that seemed to be located in multiple locations. Do I seriously need 5 different locations to find the same green salsa? (that was rhetorical) I came here looking for some carne asada to grill over the weekend. Along with the carne asada I picked up some chips & salsa, tortillas, and a variety of veggies. For 2lbs of asada and all the fixens I walked out the front doors with a bill under $25. All of my groceries turned out to be fresh and came together very well. The Vallarta brand chips were a bit too crunchy for my taste but they were fine in the end. I definitely think I'll be shopping at Vallarta in the future although with Vally Produce only a couple of parking lots away my next visit may not be anytime soon. The value when comparing the 2 markets is not quite the same. Valley Produce has better prices but not the glitz or glam of Vallarta. I just depends on your preference I suppose. read more
