I had a new engine put into my 27ft sailboat which required a lot of custom modifications. There were some tricky alignment issues that meant some initial work on the stringers had to get re-done. The team at Vallejo Marine Craft have the highest level of integrity and desire to have happy customers so the job was completed without hassle and to a high standard. *** 6 stars if we could... *** We're berthed in Brooklyn Basin, Oakland with a 30 ft sloop. It had been a while since our last haul out and we were never going back to Svendsens in Richmond and decided to cruise farther north to Vallejo to try out Vallejo Marine Craft (from some research and good advice from others in our area). They have new ownership and are doing things the right way these days. Mary is fabulous to work with and is very hands on with the whole process. She is extremely responsive and makes it apparent that she is always available for advice and direction with any logistics surrounding the process. I have never experienced such personalized service from a boat yard before. Kerry is a wealth of knowledge and is always available for some more hands-on assistance in the yard. He knows just about everything there is to know about boats and usually has the answer (mechanical stuff goes to Jimmy, and whenever you smell the sweet cigar smell in the shop, you know Gregory is around shopping anything you could possibly need). Between the two of them, we felt confident and comfortable with the work on our boat (bottom job, minor blister repairs, rudder rebuild, sail drive servicing, prop replacement, etc.) COMMUNICATION IS KEY - and these guys have it down to a science. Bottom line : Mary and Kerry (& team) actually made this experience enjoyable. As DIYer's, what originally was to be a 4/5 day simple bottom job turned into 25 days on the hard, and you know what - glad it all happened HERE and not the other, numerous boat yards in the Bay Area. My Catalina 320 had not been hauled for 8 years. The packing box was leaking pretty bad so I decided to put a drip less shaft in and have the bottom painted. Mary at the new Vallejo Marine Craft was able to haul my boat quickly even though they were very busy. Once the boat was out they found the cutlass bearing needed replacing and a few other problems. This is not your typical boat yard. Went in to have some actual work done by professional people. These guys had no expertise in anything that I wanted done. They talked there way out everything that I wanted to get accomplished in the time I had set aside for yearly maintenance. The owner is down right rude! The shop manager was not accommodating at all. Really a bad experience. Save your money and go to a real yard that wants your business and is helpful in getting you in and out in a timely manner. Amazing that these guys are still in business. If you have a boat less than 30' this is NOT the place to go! Guy was really rude on the phone when I was trying to find out about buying a new 6000,00 motor. Couldn't believe it! The guy was SO dismissive, told me to call Kelly Marine and then hung up on me. Wow! I wanted to call Mercury and tell them to take this guy of their list of Dealers. Stay away! read more

AVOID DEALING WITH THIS PLACE! After spending more than $10,000 at Boatworks on a new boat motor and related follow-up service, I developed a serious refueling problem. I wrote Boatworks on March 13, 2018, asking for a service call. No response. Then I called a few times leaving messages. No response. When My boat buddy visited them in late March, he was told the shop was too busy for us. After several more unanswered calls and emails, my own boat crew was finally able in mid-April to solve the problem. Boatworks owner/manager Richard will ignore you. If by chance you manage to get your boat to them for repairs, it will not be ready on time. And if you complain, Richard will call you a whiner! An employee of Vallejo Boat Works came to my boat to estimate a price for refitting new fuel tanks. I drove two hours each way and used a days vacation. Vallejo Boat Works NEVER called back or responded to my calls after the initial visit. Today after many months I physically entered the store and spoke to the owner. At such time the owner began F*** bombing about the difficulty of finding an unrelated piece of paper (possible bad day - no problem) ****** then this ****** Upon explaining my needs and what I wanted done, the owner became very rude almost physically (not quite) pushing me out the door. I asked why he was behaving in this manner - his response -- (paraphrase) if you do not want to do it MY way GET OUT Now. I can certainly understand differences of style and workmanship. The owner of Vallejo Boat Works wanted me to spend $2500 just to have a custom fuel tank designed and made plus all installation fees. Having done much research I suggested a far less expensive and well established method of cutting out the present tank and refitting with a "plastic" tank properly installed with far less capacity -- I do not need 300 gallons of fuel going bad - and the smaller tank could be installed without engine removal. We did not agree -- no problem. To be almost physically removed and told to GET OUT was beyond any business interaction I have ever experienced. I can not in any manner give positive regard to Vallejo Boat Works or the behavior of an enraged and hostile owner. As a returning customer ($15,000 prior work five years ago), I remain somewhat shocked that a businessman would ever treat a past and potentially new customer with such disrespect read more

This was the second time that VALLEJO BOAT WORKS had hauled my sailboat. Richard, the owner and super nice but quiet kind of guy, did his magic with the travel lift and quickly and safely got it out and power-washed and blocked up in the yard. No BS, just got 'er done. His crew, Mike, Dwight, and several others who's names I cannot recall, are always so friendly and helpful. I had a slight delay in going back into the water due to an unexpected prop replacement and the guys were completely accomodating. They gladly gave me helpful advice when asked, which was great, being a relative newbie to boat repairs. I will be hauling there again without a doubt. I had them pull a 40 foot sailboat for me that I am restoring, I explained to Richard the owner what I wanted to do and to save cost would be doing most of the work myself. I was really disappointed with the customer service I received. It was like pulling teeth trying to get answers on a time frame of when the work would be completed. One excuse after another. After two weeks I got a quote and said go ahead and fix it. A month passed, I had to call them again, and they still had not started the job. After six weeks of waiting for a throttle cable repair I came and pulled my boat from the lot still not fixed. I will not go there again. read more
