great shop with a ton of knowledge on the old CB's - getting fewer and farther between these days to find shops that know these bikes as well as these guys. dont hesitate to bring yours here. they did my girlfriends CB450 a solid run thru and found a problem another shop misdiagnosed as a carb problem, when it was in fact an advance unit spring problem. something you probably would not think of unless you have decades of experience with these things. they were able to put some better springs on it (they are not available brand new and luckily they had a spare better set to try) and sure enough, the little bike finally ran and idled. My 1978 Honda CB 550 died out and would not start. I took it to two different shops that supposedly specialize in old bikes. Both shops could not fix it and they were saying it needed major repairs. Finally I had it towed over 40 miles just to get it in Valley Cycles. Best thing I ever did. Kurt was so helpful explaining everything to me so I could understand what was going on. He knew right away what was the problem. Thankfully it was not even close to what the other shops were talking about. For less than half of their price my bike was running. If you have a 70's CB and need some help getting it running right, go no further then Valley Cycles. Kurt and his son are the guru mechanics of these bikes. I pulled my 74 Honda CB750 out of the garage after sitting for 24 years. I was having a hard time getting the starter working, wiring correct, ignition, lighting all working to legally get it back on the street again. I tried, I got frustrated, I did a search and found Kurt and called him up. He said bring it down I've got you covered. So that's what I did. I loaded it up and drove the 550 miles from my house to Kurt's shop and dropped it off. All worth it! He said give me a week. Less then a week later he called and said its ready and runs like new. 1978 CB750k Previously the bike was given a new battery (twice), checked out by a few repair shops, and it would run fine for 48hrs then..... boom! wouldn't crank up or kick start. I took it to Mr Winters and i explained the bikes symptoms. What Came out of Kurts mouth was straight up CB750! Must have been no later then a day and a half for the completed repairs. I spoke with him over the phone about my project (a '76 Suzuki RE-5 with the rotary engine) & he said, "would love to check it out, but I'm not the guy to work on it for you" We ended up chatting for a few more minutes while he tried to think about who he could refer me to, but wasn't able to come up with anyone. We also ended up chatting about another bike that I would like to own someday, a '79 Honda CBX 1000, and he was able to provide some great insight on that particular bike. This guy is amazing. He loves what he does. The other reviews say he is THE Honda expert in the area, and that's very true, but he's also got an affinity for any curio or weird bike that no one else dare work on. He cleaned the carbs and repaired the ignition on my 1987 VFR700 Interceptor (a bike that not even the Honda dealer will work on), and it's running better than I ever remember it running. I was going to sell it, but now I wouldn't dare. Also, he will not replace a cotter pin without first contacting you and giving you an accurate price. I have a 1978 Honda CB750. Ever since I bought it, the thing suffered from all kinds of problems: wouldn't start, erratic idle, rough and just a pain in the butt all around. I took it to 3 different shops and spent a lot of money with no luck before I found Kurt. He addressed all of my problems, even the most stubborn. He's super nice and his price was very reasonable. Wish I had found him sooner, but bike has been running great ever since. He was also honest about things that are not worth fixing, considering the value of the bike. It's worth noting that it did take him a week after (scheduled) drop off before he got around to even looking at my bike. And I had to repeat everything all over again as if we were talking for the first time. This made me a bit nervous, but it all turned out fine, in fact better than fine. I think he just focuses on one project at a time, and that's probably a good thing! read more

what can I say.. took the 75 cb550 ito Kurt and he worked his magic.. he was very straight forward and accomdating. Coming from Chatsworth to North Hollywood to pick-up my non-op bike foe a very minimal fee.. (less than other motorcycle towing services) carbs cleaned and adjusted, battery, air filter etc.. now it's runinng better than it has since i have owned it.. I have a 750 that will be finding it's way to Kurt very shortly.. I took my 1971 Triumph Tiger to Kurt at Valley Cycles after another mechanic who "specialized" in British bikes couldn't get it to run after four months of "trying" and giving me the runaround. Kurt diagnosed the problem correctly from the start and had my Triumph running like a clock in a couple of days. It now starts with one or two kicks. I wish I had taken my Triumph to Kurt first. it would have saved me a lot of money and added four months of enjoyable riding. Be VERY CAREFUL who you take your vintage bike to. When I picked up my bike from the other shop I couldn't even get my original parts back. Trust a pro like Kurt who grew up on Triumphs and save money and aggravation. read more

Well I know everyone gives him great reviews and that's the reason I went to him...big mistake. I had him tune up my bike (valves, spark plugs, oil change, carb tune) and low and behold it wasn't done. I had to get my bike done somewhere else as my bike was running the same as it ran when I took it in "no improvement". My valves were so tight I couldn't get a feeler guage under the tappet to adjust the nuts on all the valves. Oil was black as night and only after riding in town around 45 miles or so...my carbs weren't synced at all as my bike sounded/felt/ran the same. All I know is that the work was not done, I found another mechanic that did the work at my home showed me how to do the work myself and made my bike run/feel great...I don't believe my bike has ran any better since I've owned it. I also took my wife's bike to get worked on (that's another story, but at least he did help me out on this one). I understand that he's been in business for a long time, but to get shown by another mechanic that nothing was previously done and you pay out your hard earned money is gut wrenching to say the least!! I have never commented on anyone's business before but I had to this time...Lesson learned by me I guess, never again will I be stepping foot in/around this place!! Don't get me wrong Kurt is a nice guy, but IMO takes some of us for a ride if you catch my drift!! read more

Kurt recently got two of our motorcycles that were stored for a long time running. Both motorcycles I worked on myself but had a great deal of difficulty with the carb adjustments. I screwed up the brake assembly on the Ninja, yet he was able to work with me in getting the issues dealt with. I am an aircraft mechanic. I can do certain things, I learned there are a few issues better left to Kurt... So in addition to having a lot of experience and skill with the older bikes, he is very cooperative as well.
