I decided to call West Valley Cycle Sales and talked to Robyne. She was very nice and accommodating! Scheduled me right away! I was the first customer at their shop and Joseph took care of checking my bike. He was very thorough! He spent the time to explain and go through everything with me. I am very happy that I found this shop to work on my BMW R1250RT! On my first visit I met Robyne and she was super nice and scheduled the installation of my Helibars. I went for my appointment and the mechanic, Joseph, took my bike in on time and quickly got the installation completed and the cost was very reasonable. When he was done, he even took the time to let me sit on the bike so he could adjust the clutch and brake perches to exactly where I liked them. Clearly Joseph takes a lot of pride in his work and I really appreciated the care and professionalism. I was skeptical coming here based on previous reviews. But after coming here, I realized that some of you are still on your moms teet. Ruth is blunt, honest, and to the point. She is not there to make the most profit, she wants you to make the best choice for YOU! I have been popping in randomly eyeing a new 800gs. Knowing that I wasn't going to buy anytime soon, she answered all of my questions, gave advice ect. I chatted with all the guys there for hours about bikes and what My plans were for the gs. As of today, I am the proud owner of a 2017 f800gsa. I was talked out of the aluminum, highly overpriced panniers, into the new bmw atacama luggage system, for about a quarter of the cost, and better for what I wanted to use them for! I've had positive experiences with West Valley. I brought in a '93 bike -- my first bike ever -- and my questions were answered even though I was pretty clueless. Months later I called because I thought I needed to order a part, and the woman who answered the phone (Laurie, I believe) told me they could order it for me -- but that I really didn't need it, and she explained why. (She was correct.) Also, their rates for labor are lower than at my uncle's dealership in the Midwest. They're not hand holders and bad news is definitely not sugar-coated (they've given me my fair share, unfortunately). But they're honest and knowledgable. Plus, it's pretty cool that it's been a family-owned and -run business for so long. As long as I'm riding a BMW in LA, I'll happily bring it to West Valley. read more

Had a rear tire flat today on my new 1200GSA up on the freeway and was towed here. I was expecting to pay a couple hundred dollars to add to the misery. Big surprise, the mechanic suggested a repair as the tire is brand new. He put me in the front of the line, repaired it and then refused to take money! Hardly had time to finish my free coffee! She asked me why did i buy this bike and told me i would never be able to find parts for it.... I replied "GREAT" so i called the write place? You know what? There's a lot of negativity in this world ... and, if I were writing years ago after my first phone call, my review might contribute some more of it. ("Hello...I didn't BUY my BMW from you BUT could you...") (The reply wasn't "go to hell" but approached it in tone.) Again--IF I were writing THEN...more negative. Now I respectfully submit: West Valley is not only a "mom & pop" owned business (literally the oldest in the USA possibly) but a very SMALL, LONG, LONG-established one which, with all respect & without rancor, simply does not need the business of those who don't buy their motorcycles there (or gives that distinct impression). 'just sayin'. Know what you're getting into & "don't fight city hall." Positives: I've come to understand & appreciate "that lady"...and yeah...that was the reception I got to my first contact. I subsequently knew "what to expect" & she gave nice service professionally & efficiently. Another positive: I do believe they'd not sell you something you didn't need, that you WILL get the truth, unvarnished in all respects, for better or worse. Further, if you're BUYing a BMW & live nearby...talk to her & maybe become one of their clientele. That would be a good combination. Good luck. PS: More perspective--in 8 years I've tried nearly all major dealers within 3-5 hours of LA + some on 2 cross country trips; consequently I travel 5 hours round trip to my fav' dealer in Orange passing 1/2 dozen closer ones. The folks at West Valley Cycle were absolutely top notch. I would not hesitate to recommend them to anyone considering a BMW. I purchased a BMW from someone who lived near LA and for various reasons I could not actually look at the bike. This is the ONLY dealer in the LA area that I would trust as my eyes and ears in looking it over on my behalf. Not only did they do an impeccable job in testing the bike, but they were also nice enough to store the bike for FREE for several days while I worked out a deal with the seller and until I could pick it up. I had the pleasure with dealing with every person that works there. They were all as nice as can be and as friendly as you could hope and most importantly highly competent and very knowledgeable. This is a classic old school family shop. This type of cycle shop was more common in the 70's when I first started with bikes. Now most shops are corporate investment group owned. Now, I have been going to shops for over 40 years, myself, and this is definitely an old-school motorcycle shop. The people here are passionate, dedicated and no-BS. That doesn't work for some people, but that's what you often get with hard-core enthusiasts in any walk of life. Stand around the shop for an hour or two checking out the bikes, of which they are extraordinarily knowledgable. Note the people who come in. Note how they act. Note how they're treated, based on how they act. They don't suffer fools at West Valley Cycle, and that will certainly result in a few bad ratings. read more

In the past, I had a very bad experience with this shop. Their communication was nonexistent, services were below average, and they took a lot of time to fix your bike. Almost all of my repairs, I do at a different shop. However, against my better judgement, I went to their shop again (because I live close by). The reason for it being that I knew exactly what needed to be done, I just didn't have the time or tools to do it. I was hoping that they would be able to perform a simple task, as instructed. They were NOT!!!!!! In short, my problem was a missing cylinder. It has happened to me before, I'm very familiar with the problem. There could be many reasons for this problem, but the first thing to check would be the coil or plug. I took the bike to the shop, explained the problem to the shop manager, and was told that the bike would be done in a few days. A week later I went by the shop and was given a run around story about a part needing to be ordered from Stuttgart, Germany because NOBODY in the US has it in stock, apparently. I got the same story a week later, and another week later, and another week later. I had had enough of it, so I asked for the part number, went to a Long Beach dealer, and lo and behold I magically found it in stock. I brought the part back to the shop. Another week later, they still couldn't figure it out. Their official diagnosis was that this problem was a "doozy". I was given my bike back, and the "rare part that could only be found in Germany" (which they didn't even need). In the 2 months that my bike was at their shop, I didn't receive even one call from them on the status of the bike. So after 2 months of them not being able to diagnose a broken coil, I picked up the motorcycle in the same condition that I brought it in, and was presented with a bill for $500.00+ for the "work performed". They "replaced" the coil and sparkplugs, but they didn't fix the motorcycle. The next day I took my motorcycle to a dealership in Thousand Oaks. The manager Steve (awesome guy) told me that they would diagnose it as soon as possible. He called me the same night and told me that I had a bad coil. Who would have known... A couple of days later, the bike was done, as it should have been 2 months ago. This was just my experience, but I thought that I should share it here. I will NEVER, EVER, in my lifetime (or next), visit WVCS again. More power to the people that like this shop, but this shop should never be endorsed by BMW, in my opinion! It just gives a bad name to an otherwise awesome brand. read more

I don't where these positive reviews come from (perhaps an alternate universe?) but I'd never set foot in West Valley BMW for any reason even though they are my closest dealer. After I bought my airhead I went to West Valley to get a master cylinder kit for the brake rebuild. I guess it was "That Lady" (thankfully I forgot her name) who told me, "you don't want to do that. It's going to leak just buy a new one." I immediately walked out of there and later purchased a rebuild kit from another dealer and had my master cylinder resleeved. It is working perfectly some seven years later thank you very much. The cost was $120 vs. $400 plus for the new m/c. If she had been right perhaps I could have excused her unfriendly and condescending tone, but she was patently wrong. Bottom line is, over the past few years, I've spent over $3000 in parts purchases and $2800 in labor from BMW shops that were friendly, helpful, and welcomed my business. ps: to "That Lady" First impressions are lasting impressions. read more

My experience with West Valley Cycle has been mixed. They're knowledgeable and do good service work as far as I could always tell. However, Laurie drove me away because whenever I would come in to buy parts for my older BMW, she always pestered me with, "Why don't you buy a new motorcycle" using one verbiage or another. A hidden gem unique in so many ways: As a motorcycle dealer, this is one of the country's oldest - you can tell this is a legacy establishment. As a family-run business: I've been to many family-run establishments, but the genuine care I received the first time I walked in their shop was on another level--almost of another time. We spoke about the rich history of the San Fernando Valley, and the lovely lady who had just assumed responsibility for the business (the family members who previously run the business had passed away recently) was kind enough to walk inside to her library and lend me a book by Kevin Roderick called "San Fernando Valley: America's Suburb" (a superb book), to welcome me back home (as I just moved back). What a wonderful person. I was doing my motorcycle maintenance in my garage, but having met the Richters I almost want something I can't handle fixing to happen so I have an excuse to go see them again!
