We went as a group after we attended a Toastmasters speech contest. It took the server a while to get to our group but when she took our orders, it didn't take very long for our food to get to us. Restaurants are understaffed in this post-Covid age as well so she may have been busy. My pancakes were very good as were my eggs and sausage patty. Overall, not a bad experience. Before the whole state lock down I would frequent this place. Especially in the early hours of the morning when I was stuck at work the night before. Usually I wouldn't even give this place a second glance because where it sits it looks completely out of place. The restaurants sits in among a car dealership. Let me back peddle a bit first. When this restaurant was first built, where it sits use to be a shopping plaza that had a variety of stores to kind of do a one stop shop. Valley Dairy wasn't the only place for food in the plaza, a Long John Silver's used to be next door. However the plaza didn't fair well and everything went away and the whole plaza, Long John Silver's included, turned into a car dealership, so there you have it. Valley Dairy is a small regional chain that kind of follows the likes of Eat'n Park and Denny's. They offer your typical cheap diner eats, with the choice to get breakfast all day. Hence why I had started to frequent this on my trek home from work in the morning. After working nearly sixteen hours I know myself and not wanting to fall asleep on the way home I always stop to fill up myself. You walk in and are greeted, wait to be seated and once seated you get a few moments to look over the menu. Server will show up and take your drink order and let you to the menu to check it over one or two more times. But with my frequency of coming here in the morning, I have been getting the same thing over and over again. You can't go wrong with it, Big Country Breakfast is definitely the way to go. With the Big Country Breakfast, you can mix and match and not have the same breakfast each time you venture here. With this meal you get your choice of waffles, French toast, or pancakes. Your choice of how the eggs are cooked. Hash browns or home fries. Choice of bacon, sausage or ham. You also get your selection of toast. As you can see from the picture, it is one hearty meal. I went with the pancakes, you get three, hash brown, bacon, scrambled eggs and wheat toast. I am not going to lie to you, I ate the whole thing each time I have been here. Everything comes out piping hot. Lots of butter for your pastry of choice and syrup. Toast is already buttered, but there is an assortment of jellies on the table if you so desire. This meal will take you a good amount of time to down, but it is totally worth it. This meal has gotten me the rest of the way home after that long shift at work. This gem of a restaurant is well worth looking into. We were traveling on Route 22 East heading to visit family when we spotted this Restaurant in front of a huge auto dealership. It was mid morning and tired of those fast food chains so, we decided to stop for breakfast. Let me tell you we were not disappointed. 3 eggs, 3 strips of bacon or sausage, 3 slices of toast, hash browns or home fries for $9.99 and it was FANTASTIC! The eggs were cooked exactly as we wanted, the bacon was crisp and delicious and the home fries were cooked to perfection. The service was outstanding and the total atmosphere was warm and comfortable. We were very impressed with the food, the quality, and the quantity for the money. We arrived in Altoona PA did some errands and on our way to get back on Route 22 we spotted another Valley Dairy Restaurant. It was a mirrored image of the one we ate at in Blairsville PA. The food was again FANTASTIC, the service exceptional, very clean dining room and the prices were just as great as the food. So hoping they would open a branch in the MonroevillePA area. In searching I saw they had a few stores in the area but, just too far for us driving that distance was impossible everyday. Cmon Valley Dairy we need your excellence closer, my wife said we'll eat there everyday so she doesn't have to cook lol. Our breakfast came very fast today! Bailey is a great friendly server. We have had her before and she really makes sure you have everything you need and more. She has a passion for service for this kind of restaurant environment. Your breakfast may be inexpensive, but she treats you as it's a fine dining dinner. Definitely ask for her. Breakfast was fresh and hot. Coffee was topped off--piping hot! She even beat me to asking for a coffee to go. That never happens!! I also enjoy visiting here because I had a concern that I addressed through email awhile back, and the manager promptly replied in detail. Fried food tastes like they haven't changed the grease in ages. You can order tator tots that taste like fish, awesome. The manager asked me what I thought of the food. I told him they needed to change their grease. Stay away from the fried food and the food is decent and cheap. read more

As much as I would love to agree with the other two reviewers and pass this place off as mediocre or trash, I can't because they're nuts and this place is actually not that bad. We ate here a few times over a recent vacation in the area and tried a wide variety of menu items ranging from breakfast items, to pasta, to burgers, to sandwiches to kids menu choices and all were solid/done as advertised. Sure there were some squirrely quirks with the service taking way too long to refill drinks or to bring the check or them being out of their featured ice cream flavor yet they still continued to advertise it but again the food was solid and that is what matters most. In the Blairsville area there are not exactly a ton of food choices but out of the choices that exist most are of this type of diner-middle of the road-family restaurant type of place and I can't imagine for the price that you would do better at most of the competition. read more

Got breakfast and it was just as I expected, crispy hash browns, butter toast with extra butter, a really large OJ and a Veggie Omelet that beat your expectations with so many veggies. We've stopped in to dine here many times, but its been two years since last we ate here. I was pleasantly surprised after the time that has passed by. The place was decorated quite nicely and food remained as good, if not better than I remembered it. I had their Valley Burger, while my wife had their Liver and Onions dinner, my son - their ham steak dinner, and the in-laws had breakfast - omelettes for each. While we waited the manager dropped by a few times to check on us (nice), but the waitress was less than consistent. No matter, the food arrived after a while - it was hot, fresh, and all good. And then there was dessert - wonderful, delicious ice cream in their splendid sundae versions. I always go for their Moose Tracks and Peanut Butter ice cream - it's a never miss! I would have given this place a 3.5 if Yelp would allow (do you read that Yelp?) But I'll err on the side of caution and make it a 3-star since I was a little perturbed with the fly that buzzed the tabled a few times after dinner. read more

Well, I guess this quadrant of Pennsylvania has its own King's or Eat 'n Park or Denny's (I haven't hit a Perkin's yet). I didn't realize this was a chain until we sat down to wait out snow squalls on our way back from a trip last weekend. Having eaten heartily at Kay's grandparents' house before leaving, we didn't get hungry again until about 3 or 4 hours later, an hour away from home. I probably would have passed it up had I known that this was merely a franchise, but that would have been sad being that I wouldn't have gotten to feast (beast?) on the majesty that is the Cheeseburger Club. Reminiscent of Doug's Nightmare, a ludicrous monstrosity of a sandwich that can be had at Brady's Run Grille in Fallston, the burger is sectioned off into four cuts, each of which is held together by toothpicks. Like Doug's Nightmare, the French-style burger patties are bookended by grilled cheese sandwiches. Bacon strips and typical burger fixings (l-t-o, baby) round it out. While not as challenging as the terror of Fallston, it made for a fine cross between BRG's burger and an Eat 'n Park Superburger. The fries tasted to be frozen, but they mattered little. The burger behemoth having taken a bit out of me, dessert for me was but a twin set of miniature ice cream sandwiches, one filled with chocolate, the other with vanilla. I almost ordered the Salted Caramel Brownie Sundae, but I've had entirely too many such treats, so the soft, squishy, little biscuit of dough, chips, and cream fit the bill pleasantly. Not unlike King's, Valley Dairy is known for its ice cream, my dessert proving the point. VDR celebrated its 75th anniversary last year, and with a solid menu, its not hard to fathom their longevity. P.S. Krystina, our server, did a fine job on all fronts. P.P.S. VDR must be a local hangout due to the funny gazes we received from curious regulars, much to our amusement. Took my twins for their 11th birthday dinner they got fries and burgers they didn't bring ketchup like I asked I got French toast and eggs and hash browns they didn't bring me butter for my French toast or Syrp and when I asked for this things the waitress went and took a whole big tables order and let are plates sit to get cold and I had to go over to the counter to ask for the items I spent $73 didn't even eat my food she offered to microwave my cold French toast she also spilled my son's Ice-T on the table and on him and never brought him another one I had to go to the counter to ask for that too horrible experience we'll never go back read more

I had a very good experience at this restaurant. I came here with family on a Saturday evening and the hostess was very friendly and willing to accommodate a party of five which after being seated for ten minutes turned out to be a party of six. The waitress was very patient with every one of us who all had different tastes and questions and peculiarities. I enjoyed the meal I had and felt that the waitress was very attentive and I never felt like there was a rush to get us in and out. I liked that the family was able to sit comfortably and enjoy our meals and spend some time just talking since we don't get the chance to be together as often as we like.
