You feel like part of something as soon as you walk in. Every staff member makes you feel welcomed and gives the impression that they love their job. Sounds cliche but the staff is what makes this place makes you want to stay just a little longer! Wine flights are good as their cocktails. You can't go wrong with any drink you order. Wood fire pizzas are a typical order to soak up the drinks. This place is our new favorite and have recommend it to many of our friends! Apologetically, this review is about month overdue... here it goes: After researching very carefully, and reading TripAdvisor reviews, I chose Valley Girl Tours for a private wine tour with my boyfriend. From the very beginning, my communication with Ava was clear and seamless. She asked questions that familiarized her with what my boyfriend and I were trying to achieve out of our wine tour experience. Based on our answers, she provided various options that would suit any budget. We ended up going with the option that aside from private transportation, 3 wineries, and a cheese shop stop, included a tasting menu lunch. As it turned out, Ava had another tour scheduled for the day we selected, but she passed us on to Boris. She assured we'd be in great hands and with that said, our tour was planned. On the day of our tour, Boris was on time (actually early like we were) and waiting for my boyfriend and I outside our Airbnb. He greeted us with a welcoming smile and we immediately felt comfortable and knew we had made the right decision. On each stop on the tour, you could tell the winery owners and employees loved Boris and had a fantastic relationship established with him. In turn, as members of his tour, we were able to experience each location as locals and join in on the inner circle while learning things we wouldn't have otherwise. And as everyone knows, exploring new places with locals is always better. As the tour went on, and we purchased a bottle from each stop, along with some delicious artisan cheese, bread, and honey (upon Boris' recommendation), we got to know Boris better. He educated us in the history of the wine in the area, had fun facts about the wine, cracked jokes, and was so easy to talk to. On our final stop, Boris definitely saved the best for last. We experienced the most exquisite food by Chef Saul Flores surrounded by gorgeous architecture and a breathtaking vineyard. This part was my absolute favorite, and after a four course meal, Boris encouraged us to take a picture to commemorate the day. As a bonus, Ava was actually eating with her own tour guests at this time and we were able to meet her! Our tour had now come to and end, and Boris took us home. BUT WAIT! THERE'S MORE! Boris gave us his number and mentioned that if we weren't busy and wanted to try some really awesome tacos, he'd be more than happy to meet us later in the evening. This is the part where most Americans would probably think that it was an empty offer, or "bar talk" that you'd agree on and not follow through. Not the case. Boris was 100% genuine and we ended up meeting him out for some of the best tacos of our trip as well as beers afterwards. I can't say enough good things about both Boris and Ava. They are professional individuals that maintain a personal touch to their business. If you are looking for a wine tour that is personalized, educational, with a local's perspective, and fun, you've found the right one. Thank you so much for the memories! read more

A group of 4 of us did an all day Valle de Guadalupe tour with Valley Girl Tours and we were VERY disappointed with our tour! Here are some of the key notes: PRE-TRIP PLANNING/BOOKING: We got zero info on what we should bring/wear for the day. I even asked about whether there is a lunch plan and if we needed to bring water and never even got a response. TRANSPORTATION: The van we were in for the day was totally unacceptable. Half the seat belts didn't work and it was filthy with burns and stains all over the interior roof. There was also no water provided for us...which is shocking for an all day tour in a region where tourists can't drink the water. Even the logistics were a mess as there was a ton of confusion at the end of the day as to how we were going to get taken back to the house where we were staying...despite confirming the ride multiple times, we were worried we didn't have a ride back. THE GUIDE/TOUR: We booked weeks in advance, but Ava never communicated that she wouldn't be our guide. Michael was our tour guide, not Ava, and he doesn't know much about wine at all. He is a nice guy and did offer some good tips and details about the area, he is ill equipped to be a guide in a wine region. He said he had never really had wine before moving to the Guadalupe area a couple years ago and his lack of understanding of wine was clear throughout the day. He doesn't even speak Spanish. How can someone be a guide in a Spanish speaking country and not speak the language? Most importantly, we were really unimpressed with the wineries chosen to visit and we were given no ability to provide nput. The first winery was mediocre and we vetoed the 2nd winery after Michael described it as "rough tasting." Why would we want "rough tasting" wine?!?!? THE GOOD PARTS: The day wasn't all bad. Once we made it clear we were going to want to eat, Michael did take us to an excellent taco stand (near Mercado Lizin Francisco Zarco) and a fantastic cheese shop (Los Globos creamery in San Antonio de Las Minas, although the store sign is Tiendo Vino y Queso). Also, we were taken a couple great wineries, chiefly Vina de Frannes. Sol y Barro was very nice too. Also, our driver Diego was great! He was bi-lingual and really seemed to understand the Valle better than our guide Overall, I strongly recommend AGAINST using this tour company, especially if it's not Ava running the tour. Maybe Ava does a better job, but our experience was VERY poor. read more

This review is difficult to write...in a good way! There are not enough superlatives to describe the experience we had with Valley Girl Wine Tours and Ava. I found Valley Girl Wine Tours through two independent recommendations from friends and booked the tour with Ava for our cruise stop in Ensenada. From first contact with Ava our tour was what all of us dream about when booking a tour, the likes of which we've only seen on travel channel specials. I want to emphasize that Ava tailored the tour to us by getting to know us through email before we even arrived in Ensenada. She asked probing questions to find out what would give us an extraordinary day--what kinds of wine do you like, any food allergies, do you like cheese, beer, anything in particular you would want to see? Three boutique wineries, a specialty cheese store and a lunch chosen, served and paired with wines specifically for our party. I could go on and on about the history lesson, the wine expertise, the beauty of the valley, the hospitality of the locals, the delicious food, and of course the wine. The valley itself is a wonder to explore, but without Ava and Valley Girl Wine Tours, we would not have had the culturally immersive day filled with new friends and happy memories. This was by far the best thing I did in Ensenada, and one of the greatest days I've had in a long time. I did quite a bit of research before booking this tour, and I have to say I was impressed with Ava from the first email she sent back to me, carefully explaining the tour and responding to many of my questions about different wineries. During the tour, Ava was hilarious! She told us a lot about the history of the region. She clearly is well-connected and knows a ton about wine. She operates a brewery, too, so she can give you great beer tips as well. She took me and my sister to a cheese shop, four wineries, and an incredible taco place where I ate the single best taco I think I've ever eaten. (Seriously!) This tour is a great value. The wineries exceeded my expectations. We went to four different ones: Vinicola Retorno, Viña de Frannes, Sol Y Barro, and Alximia. The tour is typically with three, but I asked if we could go to a fourth and she kindly said yes! These places had stunning landscapes, a lot of charm, and some damn great wine. BEWARE. I WAS CHEATED OF MY DEPOSIT AND NEVER HEARD BACK from Owner/Sommelier, Ava Carolina Perez. My first inquiry regarding booking a wine tour for my husband and I for 9/4/18 was early August 2018. Ava emailed me back on 8/6/18 with a very nice letter with info about the tour, she stated that 9/4/18 was available, and asked me questions to better customize my tour. The following is the timeline of communications: 8/6/18 I emailed Ava back confirming the date, requesting the $160 per person tour option that would include a non-sommelier tour guide (tours with a sommelier cost $180 per person), and asked her questions regarding hotel pick-up and also about what time the tour would end. 8/8/18 Ava emailed me with more info. She confirmed hotel pick-up and what time the tour would end. In regards to payment, this is what she wrote: Secure your reservation today! To secure your tour today we request a $20 deposit PayPal. Your $20 PayPal deposit is deducted from the total cost of your tour and is 100% refundable if you need to cancel as long as you give us 48 hours notice. The remaining balance of your tour will be collected by your guide (Ava) in cash (dollars or pesos) when we pick you up. Once we receive you $20 deposit we will send you a confirmation email with additional details about your tour. Of course if you have any questions please don't hesitate to ask and you can always reach me on my cell or WhatsApp at +52.646.108.7815. **But Ava did not confirm that I was booking two tours at $160 each. What concerned me was that I was going to get charged $180 per person after seeing in her email that she, Ava the sommelier, was going to be our tour guide. 8/9/18 I emailed Ava to confirm the $160/person deal. 8/11/18 No reply from Ava, so I asked her again to confirm the price. 8/14/18 No reply from Ava so I emailed her again to confirm the price, and also to express my concern for her well-being as I had not heard anything from her in two days. 8/20/18 No reply from Ava so I emailed her to let her know I made my deposit of $20 via PayPal on 8/16/18, and I'd like to get a confirmation on the booking. I stated that if I did not hear back from her in the next three days, I would reluctantly cancel and find another tour operator. 8/24/18 After trying to contact Ava via telephone twice, and hearing a message that her number was not receiving calls, I emailed her to officially cancel my booking which was well within her 48-hour cancellation policy. I also stated that I expected an email to confirm said cancellation as well as to receive a $20 refund. I even said I was sorry if she was in a bad situation and could not get back to me but I had to move forward. I HAVE NOT HEARD FROM AVA. I HAVE NOT RECEIVED A REFUND. It was only $20, but $20 times many bookings that may never happen nor get refunded may be FRAUD. BEWARE. Final notes: 1. We ended up going with another tour operator, and we had a wonderful day wine-tasting for our 25th Anniversary. 2. While in Valle de Guadalupe, we saw a sign for Valley Girl Wine Tours so it seems to be a legitimate business. We sincerely hope Ave is ok. 3. We hope that this review will result in our getting our deposit back. read more

Running into Shari and Ava in the valley this past weekend reminded me that my review is long overdue! :) I took a private tour in December while visiting the valley with my cousin as a surprise for her 40th birthday. We drove down from San Diego for a long weekend. The highlight of our trip by far was our tour in Valle de Guadalupe with Valley Girl Wine Tours! I have been on many wine tours in the past, but never had the intimate experience that Valley Girl Wine Tours offers. Shari and Boris were both extremely knowledgeable about the wines, the farming techniques in the valley, and had so many fun facts to share with us. Boris, our driver, was a chef, and offered great suggestions on food pairings and local places to eat during our stay in Ensenada. Much appreciated as we wanted to check out some good local places, and his suggestions did not disappoint. Hanging out with Shari felt like hanging out with one of your girlfriends - we had so much fun with her. She is very laid back and has such great energy! We went to three wineries - two small ones (Vinicola Retorno and El Corcho Rosa) and one estate winery (Vina de Frannes). They also took us to a local creamery, Los Globos, which was such a great stop and I will revisit each time I come back to the valley! Our favorite part of the tour was visiting El Corcho Rosa and getting to know Sitara and her family. Her son and daughter in law were so friendly, and they were all such lovely, interesting people. They didn't treat us like customers - they treated us like family. I will try to make it back each time I visit the valley. All in all, our experience was perfect...we didn't have to think about anything! They picked us up and dropped us off at our AirBNB, their prices were affordable, their tour agenda was great! My husband and I couldn't have been more pleased with our tour in a comfy, well air-conditioned SUV driven by humorous Chef Borris who's always on the hunt for Natasha. LOL.
