I have been a customer for 20 years My lock in price plan expired. I was told I would have to pay $280 to secure a price.75 cents above other companies advertised price. I thought after 20 years of loyalty I should get a bit of a break. The customer service person was rude and told me I wasn't getting anything. I asked to get a delivery at the price lock price and would look at a price lock at another time. I was told an oil delivery without a price lock would be $6.49 I requested to speak with a manager She said one would call me. No one ever called im not sure how a business feels it is right to treat a customer for two decades this way. It is mind boggling to me that they remain in business. Valley Oil in Portland refuses to bring my home oil due to our "muddy driveway", despite having a clear path from the road to walk the hose up to the house. After calling and communicating that we have no oil to heat our home, the excuse from the supposed "men" that work there was that "a rock may puncture the oil hose". I have lived at my residence now, 20 years. When oil was delivered from other places, the hose on the ground was never an issue. Not only that, but I have also communicated that we do not have the funds to fill our oil tank from empty. Despite asking Valley Oil to come deliver to us at 1/4 of a tank, they insist that their monthly schedule would accommodate that. We have run dangerously low on oil all winter. Not to mention, the almost $700 bill to fill the tank has caused financial hardship on our family. My youngest daughter & I have been more than accommodating; going without oil, shoveling designated paths from the street... If us women can handle walking up the driveway & taking care of this then I would hope the workers from Valley Oil would be able to do the same. read more

For starters when I called the emergency answering operator had very poor English skills (Asian accent), which I overlooked but she NEVER WROTE A TICKET for my service request & oh yeah, this was a Saturday morning btw. 3 hrs go by & I call back & that's when Jerome informed me of this bs, so he makes a ticket to help. So at around 11:30 I receive an automated text that a serviceman is on his way to my house. At 12:15 pm, I get a lovely call from Patrick Grimm, who is extremely aggressive, annoyed, & angry on the other end. He begins to berate me in how much money this call is going to cost us (around $700-$800- w/o even looking at my furnace & how we should have handled all of this w more services basically yelling at me. EXTREMELY OUT OF LINE. He gets to my house & immediately enters w a horrible unprofessional attitude (continued from our call) & my husband is trying to explain the issue w furnace & this kid says, "You know, I'm working out of my jurisdiction" & I asked if that was why he was so rude to me on phone & he says yes. So my husband then asks well how much does he think it'll cost, & the kid says (w/o looking at anything), $800. My husband says he can leave then. Stay far away from Hop Energy (Valley Oil) for home heating needs. Here's what we're currently going through over here - Locked in to a 12 month contract at a decent fixed per gallon price, on automatic delivery. Contract was over, and I was prepared to shop around this month for the best deal I could find like most people do. Until yesterday. Hop Energy (Valley Oil) automatically delivered 182.6 gallons to my house without my consent, and WELL above the locked in rate I was at (almost two times the cost per gallon). I got an invoice on my door, and was very surprised at the total cost. They charged me $3.799 per gallon, when the going rate that I could have purchased on the same day was $2.329 per gallon. Scamming me $1.47 per gallon for basically no reason other than they can. Immediately I contacted them, obviously a bit unhappy and confused here. They were rather rude on the phone and perplexed as to why I was upset I was getting charged so much money. They explained to me that even though my contract was up for my auto delivery at a fixed rate - that they still continue to auto deliver at their "variable rate", which apparently is off the charts. They tried to tell me it's due to the additional costs for "automatically delivering the product", and other reasons that made no sense whatsoever. I explained to them I could get the same oil delivered today for $2.329 per gallon, so if they reduce my invoice to this price I have no issues paying it. They said they can't do that, and in Pawn Stars fashion hit me with the "best I can do is take 50 cents off per gallon", still leaving me at $3.299, well above what I could get it the same day for still. The difference in cost here works out to be approximately 115 gallons of additional oil I could have gotten for the same cost at the proper charge. So they're essentially trying to scam me for almost another 1/2 tank of oil. Then the real motive came out. "Mr. Kiss if you'd like to sign on to another contract we will gladly help you out here", attempting to force my hand to work with a company that feels like scamming families for home heating oil during a global pandemic. Mind officially blown at this point. Moral of the story here is steer clear of this company. I cannot speak on their service department, but their customer service and general business practices are horrific, especially given the current situational climate. read more

I absolutely despise this company and their lack of professionalism and. I signed a contract with them when I bought my house in 2022 they constantly delivered my oil biweekly hitting me with hundreds of dollars at once. I finally called and told them to stop delivering oil. I told him I could no longer afford the seven 800+ bills every couple of weeks. and I was going to be converting to a wood furnace instead. They told me they would not allow me to get out of my contract unless I had a certified company my wood furnace and showed them proof. Who the hell do they think they are telling me I had to do this to begin with? I emphasize that I had depleted my savings since doing business with them and I could not afford this any longer. Not only did they refuse to let me out of my contract, but they delivered yet because in their eyes, I had to fulfill the contract. It didn't matter that they were putting me in the poor house. so I struggled to pay the balance, and they turned around and continued to charge me fees on top of fees. The bill in the end was a balance of $599. They turned around and sent me to collections and then threatened with court. I actually got a court notice. Can you imagine this? This is how they treat their customers and this is apparently the reputation they have built themselves. I ended up paying them the money not because I agreed with the I felt I had owed bu worth the bullshit. The collection company whom I did not pay and I paid directly to Valley oil who accepted payment, the collection company has continued to report this on my credit as an unpaid balance and has refused to remove it. I have to file a claim against them and fight them to get it off my credit. What they're doing is illegal and they can be held accountable according to the fair credit act. But they don't care. I had a similar experience to other reviewers here... I inherited the contract with this company when I purchased my home at the end of 2019. Our contract lapsed a couple weeks ago and a truck came and filled our tank at the 'variable rate' of $3.99/gallon for a whopping $740 bill... Additionally, I had a propane service contract with them which I discontinued. I guess I didn't read the fine print when I inherited this contract.. I was expecting a termination fee in the $150-300 range.. Nope - $1050 termination fee. So in a matter of a couple weeks I have now have a surprise bill of $1800 to pay. Is there an option for -5 Stars? The billing department for Valley Oil is highly disorganized and fails to follow through on customer inquiries. Expect auto-pay to never work and random charges made onto your account. Scheduled auto-pay dates made online never match when actual funds are withdrawn. When there is an unexpected withdrawal made, do not expect Valley Oil to reverse the charges even though they say they will. They sent me to their "Customer Loyalty Department," which is secret code for "Person who insults your intelligence and/or guilt trips you into retaining your business." Indeed, the moment I even threatened to end my service, prices magically fell 40 cents a gallon to $3.49. "Well, prices are changing all the time, and new offers frequently come along," said the hired gun. "And think about what you get with an oil company. Some people were left in the cold this winter because they didn't get a delivery in time." Indeed, this is a calculated game, played with every individual customer, designed to evaluate just how much any given person is willing to pay. Worst comp at ever! Signed a budget contract-apparently that means something different to valley oil than to most people in the general world!!!! Expected to pay one amount for 12 months, that is what a budget implies right? Well they tried to change it several times-despite locked in price and a contract. Took many calls to figure that out. With many different answers as to why it was changing. No resolution. Flash forward-get my furnace serviced-man breaks my oil line and oil leaks in my basement. My wife and I have lived in our present location for twenty seven years. In that time span we have tried to support local businesses including oil company's. Well established company's appeared to be selling out while we were attempting to remain local. We decided to try Dollarwise Oil which worked out for our life style. When contacted by Valley Oil we decided to try Valley Oil with a one year contract. They have gone out of their way to work around our delivery requests. So far we have had no issues,fair prices, and a bonus, We have discovered the customer service Rep. I talked to today is a neighbor. I have been a costumer of Valley Oil for 30 years . Last week I got a bill for 813 dollars . They had charged me $4.59 a gallon for oil. That is at least a dollar more then any other oil company . I called them to see if it had been a mistake and they said no . I didn't even think it was legal to deliver oil and then jack the prices up like that. I played phone tag with them for a week and finally spoke to a very condesending man who basically told me "to bad" They offered me a 50 dollar credit. I will never use that company again . Unfortunately I cannot give lower than a star. Incredibly high prices for oil, their automatic oil delivery has terrible timing. About a drop left before oil was delivered. I also purchased a heating and cooling contract. AC service person said that the floater was off on the drip and that's why my AC was leaking. The issue was actually that lines were clogged and had to get someone out to fix it after water leaked through my ceiling. When I had someone service my furnace, I was told I needed a new one and quoted a nice figure of $8k. Called another service person and after $200 had a fully working furnace and was told it did not need to be replaced. This company is terrible and cannot be trusted. read more

The worse. You've been warned. I had a smoke condition that caused fire department to shut down the boiler. I called Valley Oil to do an inspection. The tech came in, with no tools. Looked at it, and said I needed a new boiler. He was there for under 10 minutes...without using a tool and barely touching my boiler and charged me $100. I called Total Mechanical systems next. Not only did they inspect, they also fixed the boiler and had me up and running within an hour of them arriving. read more

So after I locked in my price for 2018-2019 I read reviews. I just want to thank the customer service rep I believe was Shane. I called up looking to get a fill up and decided to sign a contract. The agent didn't pressure me into doing anything, had plenty of knowledge about the contract, allowed me to take my time to read what I was signing, and was able to answer my questions. I gave four stars because I'm waiting for my first fill up and pending how that goes I'll give the fifth star. It feels good to know I don't have to worry about my oil for a year. This is a horrible company to deal with along with their parent Dollarwise. We had no heat over New Year's Eve weekend and called for emergency service. They were able to restore hot water but not heat. We called a second time on January 2nd and had them do a recall since the first tech didn't fix it and we paid in advance for a cleaning. The second tech ended up bursting pipes in our children's playroom and charged us a diagnostic fee plus playing around with the level. We were told there wouldn't be a charge. On top of that they canceled the cleaning and didn't refund us. They manager said she was looking into our concerns. Still waiting. Getting my credit card company involved and then wvit. This company is unresponsive to customers. Stay FAR away. This company owes us money. We should be refunded immediately. Again, stay away. read more

Poor communication from the staff over what the plan covers and costs right from the get go, and I have to call with billing problems pretty much every month. Valley Oil is a rip-off. I have been with them for 8 years and they told me rate is 3.999 when all others (Daniel, Peterson, Dutch) are charging upper 2's to 3.149. I was told they already paid for that oil in their tanks and cannot change price and lose money. They also told me that other prices can only be new customer rate. Also they charge $420 for service plans when others are charging $250 or less for same type of service. I wanted to get out and they told me $350 early term fee. I was offered 3.099 cap rate when I fully complained but others are offering that same cap rate. They would not budge by $100 off the service plan. Valley Oil seems to have no customer loyalty. they sign people on and stick it to those who have stayed with them. I plan to just pay them $350 , tell all my friends to not go with them and suggest any other oil company since they are the greediest oil delivey company out there. If there was a prize for most unorganized, unprofessional oil company, Valley Oil would definitely be in the running. I chose them because I bought my first house a year ago, and I simply transferred the account from the previous homeowner to myself. Big mistake. When I had a furnace issue that prevented the blower from working - thus leaving me with no air conditioning or heat - Valley Oil tried to charge me full-price, claiming that this issue was a cooling issue and would not be discounted, because I only had a heating plan. It took me at least three or four phone calls to convince them otherwise. They tried to charge me for my leased water heater twice and for the same oil delivery twice. They also doubled the amount I needed to pay toward my budget plan each month, admitted it was due to a miscalculation, told me it would be fixed, and then...nothing was fixed. Their representatives are easily confused, and they have NEVER once called me back, despite stating that they would many times; I always need to call again days later to explain the same issue over and over. I cancelled my account almost a month ago and, four phone calls later, they have still not set up a day to pick up the leased water heater that is sitting disconnected in my basement. This is by far the WORST oil company out there! Their oil prices are extremely high. I have been a customer of theirs for 5 years. Its my fault for staying with them but they kept making promises to help me out. They lie about prices and make phony contracts. I just got off the phone with them this morning telling me they will not adjust my oil price with out me paying $292.00. Really? Thats over 100 gallons of oil somewhere else. On top of it, they told me they do not honor Military families. I could name 10 other companies that do offer Military discounts and senior discounts. The people they have working there are completely useless. I have NEVER gotten anything accomplished with this company with out having to talk to 4-5 different people. More than half of my appointments with them had to be rescheduled due to just not showing up because the person who made the appointment never put it in the system. I had the displeasure of dealing these people when I bought my house about 8 years ago (and nothing has changed with them). There was a oil-fired hot water heater that the previous owner was 'leasing' for $20/month. That's right, an OLD hot water heater in barely working condition worth $10 as scrap the were charging $20/month TO RENT. I quickly chopped it out and left it on the curb for them to take back. They also tried the heating oil 'lock-in' rate scam on me. When I asked about a furnace cleaning, they said they wouldn't do furnace cleanings for those who don't buy their (outrageously priced) heating oil. Too bad there isn't a ZERO star rating. Valley Oil is worst company we have ever dealt with. Had an appointment to have the furnace cleaned at 12:00 noon. Gentleman shows up at 8:30 AM as I am leaving for work and my husband is still asleep after working second shift. He said he would come back that afternoon to do the cleaning. Five minutes later he comes back to the door to say an afternoon appointment (that we already had) wouldn't be possible because they are booked. I was already late for work thanks to this bozo. When my husband woke up, he found a "Sorry we missed you notice". Total BS!!!! He called the number on the slip and was told we had to wait until the end of February for an appointment--four months away. I called Valley Oil customer service only to be told the same thing. They have no consideration of or value their customers. She pretended to speak to her "supervisor" leaving me on hold for an additional 10 minutes, came back on the line, and said the end of February was the best she could do. Seriously!! Even worse--she told me "it was a pity you didn't let the service man in when he was there in the morning". I lost it!! She actually wanted me to let a stranger into my house and leave for work while my husband was sleeping in bed. BIGGEST SCAM EVER. 1st year everything was good, had a cap price, no problems. 2nd year - got charged way over the current price of oil, threatened to end my contract with them and they fixed it for $2.79 a gallon for 1 year + the fee to start a contract. not the best but i wasn't loosing too much money. at the end of the season I told them no more deliveries, take me off your list I am done. this year... went on vacation, got back with the valley oil paper jammed under my front door and I knew they would be taking my money before i even looked at it. current price is anywhere from $1.59-1.69 per gallon with or without a contract. my price is set at $2.69 a gallon. its at $2.69 they described because thats the going rate everywhere you go. yesterday they first offered me $2.43 a gallon which is still very high and i said i would have to call back. today they offered me $1.89 a gallon with a $80 fee for starting a contract. I called their company a scam and the customer representative then went into how the government allows them to sell it at $2.69 and its my fault for not canceling the non existent contract that they sent to my house 10 days after they filled my tank. The 2nd part is they left the fill cap off in the dirt, I was away and didn't see it after all the snow melted and realized it was off and now water is in my tank. Called an internet oil company to deliver oil, they dispatched Valley Oil, I requested 100 gallons as house was being sold. Got notice they came to deliver, no one was home so no oil delivered as they needed to "inspect" system before delivery. Next scheduled delivery oil driver put in 20 gallons (not 100) and said to the elderly homeowner the system was a "fire hazard" as there was a water leak in the boiler (nothing new had been like that for months). Driver pulled the fire sensor, shut off water feed, shut off oil feed and disconnected wiring inside the control panel to render the boiler inoperable. He could have advised the homeowner that the system needed service and maybe not a good idea to run it, but instead completely disabled the boiler (in freezing weather) so it could not be restarted by anyone without technical savvy. I believe this was done to insure an exorbitant service call (boiler and tank replacement) to a homeowner that doesn't know any better. Why else would only 20 gallons be delivered (less to pump into new tank they would install) and wires disconnected? Sounds to me like this company likes to take advantage of senior citizens, going far and above insuring themselves a pricey job.
