I can't say enough good things about Daniels Energy. A few years ago we switched our propane service and tanks to Daniels. The sales and service folks couldn't have been nicer. When I call for a refill they are always friendly, and the deliveries are prompt. Recently we had them replace one of our HVAC compressors. Their estimate and replacement was incredibly quick, especially since we were in the heat of summer. The sales agent even came to the house a couple of times to manage the contract particulars. I would recommend them to anyone; their service is lightyears ahead of most companies. 5 stars in my book! read more

The representative Dave came to my home of record provide me with a quote and signed a contract to enter into services. Instead of taking my business, they completely refused to provide service valid reason explanation or alternatives. As a homeowner in the Glastonbury area looking for a reliable provider, I was stunned to be turned away despite guaranteeing prompt payment. If they are this dismissive to new, paying customers, I do not recommend relying on them. Take your business elsewhere. I could have been a new customer; however, I just got off the phone with Katie. My central a/c unit needs to be serviced, your website indicates that the ideal time to call is before mid June, it's May 27th. She indicated to me that I needed to talk to Matt to switch over my oil purchasing to Daniels Energy. They weren't interested in servicing my a/c unit. I was effectively dismissed without any alternative solutions being offered. If the right company presents itself, I may in the future switch my oil purchasing but doubt very much that Daniels will be considered. Bought a brand new furnace from Daniel's when we moved in 23 years ago. Purchased a service plan every year which included a cleaning and tune-up of the furnace. I recently had a third party air conditioning technician come in and inspect the system he stated the blower fan for your furnace has never been cleaned and he showed me a picture of it and I couldn't believe it. All these years I've been running an inefficient system that was costing me more and more to run every year because Daniels never cleaned it. I was never told it needed cleaning so I never assumed I needed to address it separately. The service manager said Well now that it's really dirty, it'll cost a lot of money to clean it. The service plans accumulated to a total of about $4,000 over the years and I never used them other than the service and cleaning. Anybody can deliver oil. It's the service that really matters so I recommend staying away from this place. read more

Absolutely the RUDEST and MOST UNPROFESSIONAL company I've ever encountered. This is our exchange thus far, from my email to their customer service regarding their reply on Google Reviews: "To whom it may concern-- I am in utter shock regarding the reply to my poor--though sadly accurate--Google review regarding your business. I had an unpleasant experience with Matt in the oil department and said as much. We have previously been customers of yours and I had reached out to enquire about renewing our contract. I left Matt a voicemail to which he never replied. I called again the next week and spoke to him in person and he was less than professional. He acted put out to answer questions. In fact, he seemed to go out of his way to turn away our business. I asked he send the information via email, which he failed to do. I decided to go with Cash Oil, instead. I left a Google review, which I am enclosing: " 2 weeks ago Very disappointed with the service. Left a message for Matt in the Oil department and he never called back. When I did reach him he was short with me on the phone and never sent me the info I requested via email. I had a great experience with the folks there in the past, but Matt turned me off. I chose another vendor." THIS WAS THE REPLY I RECEIVED: Response from the owner 4 hours ago Ms. Kossack - your criticism is groundless. Period. We have thousands of customers. You were NOT one of them. When your oil provider couldn't come to your home on a Saturday you called us. We were already servicing our customers. First year with Daniels was great. Second year? Not so much. They charged us with a contract fee of $120 dollars for the lock-in price. It did not exist when we first signed up. As for this fee, they did not tell us about it until after we already renewed the process. As for their maintenance plan, it's almost $500. When asked why it was expensive compared to other providers, the sales rep said it was "for their superior service". Our oil furnace's line is starting to corrode and we asked if the maintenance plan would cover the replacement of the line. Their response? "No" because it is not an emergency. I'm not sure what superior service they intend to provide, but we are switching once our contract ends. read more

I was a customer for 2 years. They were charging me $400/mo claiming they were delivering 150 gal/mo. I did the math finally after some time and I was being over charged $2000. They claimed they didn't know what I was talking about and then brought up the fact that they charged me $500 per contract on and a delivery fee which they never told me about on top of the fuel they were claiming they were delivering. I have been running my heating system constantly at 75 degrees for the last 3 months and I am still over half a tank of my 275ga tank. Absolutely AWFUL! Was on automatic delivery as I had oil delivered in the past without contacting them. I notice I'm very low so I give a call for delivery during the week and they can't give an estimate when the oil will be delivered. So I run out on Sunday night, I add diesel and call Daniels to bleed the lines they say it will be $250. they charge me $382 with no explanation. Monday morning I call and ask if I'm the first stop of the morning and they have no idea when they will get to me despite having the service call the night prior. I call a different company and they delivered in 2 hours so obviously Daniels was mad. I wanted an explanation about the additional charges and asked to talk with the service manager multiple times or to have him call me and he never did. all I got was a letter saying they were going to send me to collections if I didn't pay lol. Backstory: I'm a licensed Real Estate Broker + I'm a Custom Home Builder with over 32 yrs. of construction experience. Today, I contacted Daniels Energy on behalf of a Buyer who I represented and I had a question on service performed for a condo Seller that my Buyer was purchasing. We did our pre-closing walkthrough and it's the first time (other than a foreclosure) that I've done that when there was no power in the entire town. All of Deep River was out due to the extreme snowstorm that occurred on 3/7/18 and all I heard when I got out of my car to enter the building was the hum of generators. To my surprise, Daniels Energy answered the phone and professionally answered my questions. A few details needed to be obtained from one of the guys who had been in the unit so the receptionist took down my contact info for him to get back to me. Within 45 minutes, I got a call from Chris and got the answers I was looking for. My Buyer client was able to then schedule some additional work that the Seller had not requested to be done but which was needed. A good customer experience starts with good communications and I have to take time out of my day to give Daniels an A+ in that department. read more

We have had Daniels since 2009 and have been using them since. They are honest and thorough. We were nervous about having propane initially but after 11yrs no concerns. Natural gas is not available on our street so we went with this option. Daniels installed our system and maintain it as well. We like this method due to being cheaper and cleaner than oil! read more

Stay away from this company!!!! They will not stand behind their employee's accident and will leave you with a flooded basement!!! I was a customer for fourteen years in my current house and a customer for four years prior to that in a rental. In April, a night before we left for a trip to Florida, I walked down into the finished basement to find that we had water seeping from under a floating floor. I traced the source back to the furnace in the mechanical room, which apparently had a valve open allowing water to leak slowly. This must have been going on for some months and had finally reached a saturation point allowing the water to come through the floor seams. I called the company, which in turn put us in contact with the technician that performed service a few months earlier. He informed us that since I had turned off the faucet and the water stopped leaking, that there was no reason for him to come out. I said ok, assuming that the event was reported and that Daniels would stand behind their mistake. I was able to obtain some commercial dehumidifiers and drying fans that night and I set them up to dry out the floor and walls. We let them run for a week while we were away and had them monitored. Upon our return, the floor and walls were still wet, so we contacted our insurance company and filed a claim. Two Daniels representatives came out to the house to see the damage, one of which was extremely rude and flippant. The restoration company had already started demolition to prevent the growth of mold. In the end, our insurance company was denied subrogation as the Daniels claimed there was no service ticket for the call. They clearly lied about the phone call and refused to accept any responsibility. To date, we have had no apologies. DO NOT USE DANIELS for service to you furnace! They lost a customer of over eighteen years for the way that they treated this matter. I get it, mistakes happen, but own up to your mistakes, especially in a service related business on the shoreline of CT. We wanted to work amicably with them and continue on as a customer, but their refusal to accept responsibility for their technicians mistake and their denial of a reported incident has resulted in extreme disappointment and anger. You can be sure I will be telling everyone I know (especially real estate agents, home inspectors and the like) about the way they treat their long standing customers. Bad news travels fast and service based businesses rely heavily on word of mouth. Businesses who value customer service, treat long term customers in good standing with respect, Daniels did not. read more

Major headache. I had a contract with this company for a year. Every time I had a billing problem (and I seemed to have one every month, which is odd when I have a set payment. Should be fine every month), I would have to call and speak to a rep in billing. Every one I spoke with was EXTREMELY rude and gave me a COMPLETELY different answer every time I called. The nicest person I ever spoke with was when I ended my contract. She was VERY sweet. I told her that it was just too much a hassle to stay with them. Eventually, I got out of my contract and considered buying oil on an as-need basis. The man who called me back from the company was even more rude and talked down to me. I would say they are not the cheapest place around, and many places will try to rob you and give you things you don't need. Daniels never did that to us. So for that, we were grateful. I still tell people how much I think Daniels flat out lied to me and tried to rip me off, hence why I'm updating this.* Original Review: Scheduling was difficult. On-site service people were nice, regardless of an issue likely caused in scheduling, and customer service is reasonable to work with. I was at work, so my significant other initially made the appointment for a Friday morning, and let me know; I called them a few min after the appointment was set, confirmed the appointment date and time, and inquired about maybe replacing the unit and was referred to a sales rep who informed me when they do the service they can take the measurements and prep for a sales visit at the same time. Sounded ideal. We received a call Monday, of the week of service, saying our appointment was confirmed for Tuesday, Tuesday? No, there were two different calls confirming it was Friday, and I took the day off for this? Persistence got them to make room for the appointment Friday afternoon. On Friday the on-site people said they were there strictly for the presales measuring, and they were not told they were doing a service. They were kind enough to stay on site while we called the office a 4TH time about the system being serviced, re-explained the initial call was for a service. While I was on the phone with a rep, they informed me that the service department just spoke to the person standing in front of me and the system wasn't worth fixing. Interesting, I told the rep, since he was standing in front of me and didn't speak to anyone. The on-site tech did quickly check to confirm my suspicion that the compressor was not turning on, near the end of this call. I did confirm with the tech and he said he "never told anyone what the rep on the phone told me he said," also added "they have been having scheduling issues lately." I made sure the on-site people knew I wasn't upset with them and they were kind and patient throughout the process. I did receive a bill for the "Service" that wasn't scheduled and not done, though after calling to complain they informed me it was already credited. Very disappointed in scheduling, I feel like the rep lied who I spoke to while the techs were waiting with me, and annoyed I had to waste my time to call on a bill I should have never gotten. People are pleasant to talk to there, I wish I would have had a better experience, but based on my experience I won't be moving forward with replacing my c-air unit through them, I don't feel they earned my trust at all from this experience. read more

For 15 years I was a customer who had their furnace serviced by Daniels Oil. On Wednesday 2/2/21 I called to have my furnace serviced because I had no heat. At that time I was told that I could not have service because I had no oil contract. Not once in 15 years was I told that they would not do an annual cleaning or service because I had no oil contract. On 6/16/20 they were happy to do an annual service without an oil contract. On 6/18/20 they offered a quote of $585 to replace my furnace controller and expansion tank. On 9/16/20 they did the replacement for $1750 saying that the original written estimate was wrong. I accepted that because they had been faithful in servicing my furnace and I wished to continue the relationship. Now I believe I was mistaken. I currently have a tech working on my furnace from another company. He showed me how dirty my blower was and how the retention head was full of residue. Since I had the unit cleaned by Daniels 8 months ago I was surprised. If you want to pay more than you need to buy oil and get service you should indeed call Daniel's oil in Portland. read more

I have been with Daniels about 20yrs. They have an excellent service dept. When i call someone is dispatched immediately. I had a tipped water heater one yr. They had never seen anything like it but fixed it quickly with little inconvenience to me.I have also worked with Darlene in the billing dept. Very understanding and always helped me to come up with a way to get my biill paid. This yr I worked with a different lady who as just as nice.I am very happy with all the servicemen and ladies in the office. I would highly recommend the company. Have always found them to be honest, professional and experts in what they do. I consider myself to be a fussy person, when it comes to getting the job done and over the years they have met my expectations. Just a few months ago I converted to natural gas and they were right there in recommending a top notch system and when they installed it they were right on the mark. I am posting this review for the terrible customer service I have received for a admitting error which was acknowledged twice by the customer support team. I was a customer of reliable oil for over three years after purchasing my home in Colchester since they were the current company which serviced my new home for over twenty years. I received a letter informing me that Daniels's Oil had purchased this long standing family company (probably due to needing to retire I am guessing). I went on Daniels home page to review previous customer experience. To my surprise Daniels did not have many good reviews vs mostly poor experience reviews. I was hesitant but decided to give Daniels the benefit of doubt since my current employment is in Customer service and I have had my share of investigating and dealing with unwarranted customer reviews. I should have heeded my first misgivings and instinct. Our first delivery went fine since we decided to fill the tank with no issues-I would assume it's like filling a tank of gas on a car not much thinking involved. So I was not expecting anything different when I ordered my next delivery. However, this time I only ordered a 100 gallons of oil on January 17th. The oil was delivered on time on Friday January 19th. When I got home from work I went to check the oil level in the tank and to my surprise it was topped off. The office was closed so I had to wait till Monday the 22nd to speak to the office. I called the office first thing Monday morning and the Daniels rep informed me that the mistake was on Daniels part. So I asked what could we do about the payment for the additional 102 gallons. I was told that I could have 30 days to pay the balance which was to my satisfaction because the Daniels rep admitted it was their mistake. My instinct led me to contact the bank that night and what I found was the entire balance had been processed thus screwing up my balance and current transactions. Obviously lack of communication from customer service rep to accounting to prevent this from happening-poor follow thru to ensure customer expectations were met. I contacted Daniels again the very next morning and was told it was an accounting mistake and a mistake to over deliver. I was asked what could they do to fix the issue. After this experience I informed the rep I wanted nothing to rectify this problem. I was asked if I wanted Daniels to cancel the payment and readjust the payment for just the 100 gallons I had initially ordered and to pay off the balance in 30 days which I had already agreed to-duh... you really think I want to let Daniels in my account again. My biggest concern is for those that are not as fortunate as I who can afford this error but those on fixed incomes or receiving support or have limited income. This could possible could be a huge financial hurdle for them to overcome. Lastly, after reviewing the response to previous poor reviews, the owner responds with. " please contact me to discuss your customer experience." This is a large lack of assuming accountability on Daniels the owners part. One of the most basic aspects of being in business it's not the customer responsibility to contact the owner, its the responsibility of the owner to reach out to the customer to discuss the customer service experience. Basic business management 101. I was told the owner would contact me to discuss my concerns its been over 36 hours no contact or response from the Ownership. Buyer beware. Horrible service. I tried out Daniels for the first time and will never use them again. The salesman that came to my house told me 3.49 a gallon and 10 cents off if I pay in 10 days. He was nice. My first delivery came with the bill of 3.65 a gallon. I called the billing department to try and straighten this out. I was on hold for 12 minutes and decided to hang up. I called back the next day and got to speak with someone from the billing department. They told me that they couldn't do anything about the price and I had to talk to the salesman. I was transferred to his phone and was presented with his voicemail. I left a voicemail and did not receive a call back. I will never use this company again. read more

After recently moving to the area my family and I were looking for a local family owned business to support for our oil needs. We tried to set up a credit account, knowing full well that with my financial rebuilding in process we'd need a cosigner. My cosigners credit score of 830 was not good enough to qualify us for credit.. hard to believe but fine. We asked for pricing for a 100 gallons and to restart our furnace and were quoted 2.29 a gallon and 138$ to restart. Thinking that 370$ seemed high I tried another company, Patriot Discount Oil. They quoted me 1.89 a gallon and 60$ to restart our furnace. They were also able to get me delivered and restarted within 3 hours and not 2 days out like I was told with Daniels. Save yourself some money and make the right choice.. Choose Patriot... or anyone else over Daniels. read more

I recently converted from oil to gas and after checking 4 contractors I chose Daniels. There salesman was the only one to show up with options and he explained everything in great detail. When it came time to do the work they did a very professional job, were done in the promised time and cleaned up afterwards. The gas system passed inspection on the first try and the inspector even commented on the quality of the install. This combined with Daniels guarantee supporting the manufacturers warranty made the whole process a very positive experience. read more
