This place is not bad. Don't judge the employees based on their looks. All of the ones I have come in contact with have been awesome. As far as the smell. Of course it's going to smell. They have a.ton of pets. Every time I have been in there they were cleaning up after them. We have never gotten a pet from them so I can't review that aspect. read more

Compared to most pet stores, this place has a lot to offer. They have a wide variety of supplies and also a wide range of pets for sale. The employees are all very friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. The cleanliness of this store however, is something that needs to be worked on. Always seems stuffy in here and it's really smelly too. So I had called in and talked to the son of the owner about a turtle I rescued. The son told me to come down and pay what I can and the son would donate the remaining needed items. Well after a 45 min ride to the store the father was the only one there and was not going to help at all. So I wasted my time. The store is filled with donated uncleaned items that have been marked so high that all the chain pet store beat there price with brand new items. All he wanted was to take the turtle from me and was every unhelpful about it and just wanted me to buy his preused dirty untested products. read more

THE BEST PET STORE!! Staff are so honest and beyond educated! Will never go anywhere else!

The conditions these animals are kept in is not only disgusting , it's down right neglect. Being a reptile owner myself, I've never seen such filth and unfit enclosures. Animals were crammed into tiny shoebox enclosures, some stacked on top of eachther. There were deceased animals inside enclosures with those still living. Bugs running around the floor . Puppies crying and yelping. I am truly disturbed by what I've seen here. I will never go back and I hope anyone with a heart that reads this won't either ! read more

Well, several months ago I ordered a brace for my tank, I've stopped by about 6 times to check progress and THEY STILL HAVE NOT PLACED THE ORDER!!! "Only the owner places orders... no way to contact the owner... he only comes in for 30 minutes at a time without warning..." The games and excuses are endless but order can't get past step one! Our kids gave us a starter aquarium kit from Petsmart and we set it up and bought some fish and started it up. We started running into issues with fish dying and the tank clouding up and the people at Petsmart weren't much help and The advise on the internet is all over the place so that is confusing. Finally I went to these guys. Boy, I wish I'd started here in the first place! They know their stuff, are extremely helpful, have great products and a huge selection of fish, their prices are reasonable and they are friendly. What more could you ask for? I can't recommend these folks highly enough. Don't waster your time and money anywhere else, go here! read more

Purchased a Russian Tortoise from them and it died in a month. It had an infection according to our vet that came with it from the shop. Was told that they only have a 2 week policy on dead animals even though the infection that killed it was with it when we purchased it. Will NEVER go there again. read more

I thought the place was awful, when we went in there they had a big dog in the glass display that was to small for him. Also they had two little dogs out for people to pet them and as my girlfriend reached to pet them a lady literally grabbed them up by the skin of their necks and said their done playing. Also there was another customer there complaining about the big dog. I don't understand why she would yank them up like that as if we weren't interested in the dog and she didn't do it gently either. That was my first time in there and i will never go back there ever again unless it's too complain about that women. read more

This is an awesome pet store!! I don't know if anyone knows this but they are not like any other pet store who just gets pets from babies and sells them they also get pets dropped off to them that other people don't want and re-home them! That's always a plus in my book, they never let a dog go homeless! I went in thinking I would go home with nothing because I couldn't afford it and they have options where that doesn't happen! Any other pet shop you go into if you don't have the money or have bad credit you're just out of an animal. I have bad credit but still got to finance my puppies! :) all these bad reviews about the smell....of course it doesn't smell like a rose shop there are all kinds of different animals in here! Do you go into an aquarium or zoo and it smells good??? Umm no! They have all kinds of pets here and I found it very interesting! Take this from someone who works in an exotic pet store in another state. This place should not be in business. I highly doubt if it could pass a state inspection. The fish department was disgusting. Algae everywhere, completely mismatched tanks. I felt like I was at a garage sale instead of a store. Empty tanks and used tanks were scattered all of the floor, a safety concern in my opinion. The fish looked sick, and would probably make your fish sick if you took them home. The reptiles were improperly housed, with the exception of the snakes. The lighting was incorrect on most of the cages which will lead to metabolic bone disease if you're not careful. When I visited there was an Irish Setter, who had possibly been there so long he was too big for the enclosed glass cage he was in and barely had any room. At least he had a few toys to entertain himself with. It would be nice if the puppies could be open air cages and get to interact with the customers and people on a daily basis so the customer knows they are getting a well socialized puppy. As long as the store keeps up on the vaccine schedule there should be no harm to the puppy or the customers pets at home. The cat cage had no cats in it, but was covered in rust and was too small for any cat too feel at all comfortable. Cats deserve a small room to explore, not a wire cage built for a ferret or small animal. The products were unorganized, the shelves were bare, and covered in dust like they had been sitting there since the 90's. I can understand the smell of the store to a certain extent, but it really caught me off guard. And that's coming from someone who is used to smelling the stench of a pet store on a daily basis. It smelled like animals, but also mold and mildew like they hadn't taken a mop to the place in quite awhile. All in all, I would not recommend this place. When I walked in it broke my heart, because this is not what a pet store is supposed to be. This is what gives pet stores a bad name. read more

Was disappointed with my experience here. The staff were extremely rude, and only paid attention to their friends, who they were hanging out with behind the counter. They acted as if there was no work to be had, even though all the cages and tanks were filthy, the floor looked as if it hadn't been swept and mopped in years, literally crunched underneath your feet. The merchandise was all dusty and dirty, the animals didn't seem well-kept. I will definitely be taking my business elsewhere, where the staff is friendly and passionate about the animals, not just looking to hang out. read more

Walked in today to look for snails after I called and no one picked up. I was pleasantly surprised to find a cluttered but definitely clean store. I didn't check with the kittens or puppies since I went to the other side of the store but the guy that helped me was knowledgeable and engaged me in conversation. I am happy with my experience and will be back. read more

I buy filters for my tanks here, otherwise I wouldn't go here at all. Dirty place with dirty tanks and a lazy staff. They have dead fish in almost every tank and the store is just dirty. While I was paying for my filters I noticed a dead cichlid that had jumped out of the large tank behind the cash register and landed on top of the glass covering the tank. The cichlid had not been dead long, but it already had flies all over it. This place is all about their snakes, lizards and spiders, but aquatics? Not so much read more

Went by yesterday. They get a "F". Horrible on the aquarium side. This was the last , best place in the metro area for fish and freshwater plants. Until recently, their aquariums where awesome. I've heard that there plant specialist is no longer there and it shows. Most all plants dead, dead fish everywhere, empty tanks. To bad, I've been going there for years. I don't even want to give this place 1 star but I have to in order to post. Their customer service SUCKS!! I went in yesterday to buy supplies for my new Uromastyx...spent $170 and came home and she had passed (we now know that they unknowingly sold us one that was not healthy and the Jurassic World...which is AWESOME gave us another) I called just to ask if I could return them...this was before I called Jurassic World...was told no that they could only do store credit...which was also fine, HOWEVER, she was rude as can be...you know when you are in that type of a business and a pet owner calls you in tears and explains what has happened...is it hard to say "I'm so sorry to hear that. Unfortunately, we can only give a store credit." Had she done that it would have alleviated some of the friction between us. She wanted me to call back in three hour...then it was an hour...this was after she yelled at a crying upset pet owner that there is no refunds only store credit. She was yelling so loud and treating me so bad that my son who was in the same room was pissed and started yelling across the room at her. This is not the way you treat people had she shown that she actually gave a crap about a distraught customer then my response would have been a lot calmer. I got off the phone and called Jurassic World and the FIRST thing he said was..."Oh man I am so sorry to hear that...we know how important she was to you." That is how you build relationships. Went and picked up my new baby...so was able to use what I got...however, I had to go back into Valley Pets to exchange a heater...needed it now and didn't want to pay for another...I have an $8 credit if anyone is interested since I will NEVER step in there again and neither will any of my animal loving family. I also have some credit for some feeder fish...if anyone would want that. Other than feeder fish (regrettably) I would NEVER buy animals from them...I can't stand what I see...they just don't care for them in the way they should...if I had all the money in the world I would buy them all just to save them. It's so bad that one of the Bearded Dragons that my son has was from there...he got it because he had a mangled foot...my son pointed it out and the guy said..."You want him...I can't make any money off of him now" that was actually the last time my son stepped foot in the store. Please be careful...and if you are looking for somewhere to get reptiles...try Jurassic World! It's a drive but they are definitely about building relationships and the animals not just making money! read more

If I could I would rate this shop 0 stars, I would. To say I was less than impressed is a major understatement, to say the least. The original plan was to go into the store to see what kind of fish they offered and perhaps purchase a few. Right off the bat, I noticed that as I was moving my hand, the fish followed it. It seemed like these fish hadn't been fed in weeks, they followed my hand so intently. And that trend continued all throughout the store. It seemed like everywhere I turned there were hungry animals. For reptiles, I can sort of understand, as some reptiles don't eat as much as others, but some just looked absolutely starving and miserable. Which brings me to my other complaint. The dogs. Oh my gosh, the dogs. They were kept in these tiny cages that had absolutely no ventilation running through them. Just a glass cage, maybe 3 feet in length, 2 feet in width, and maybe 3 feet in height. Not to mention the prices of them. If they weren't so expensive I would have actually considered purchasing some just to get it out of such a habitat. I mean, their snakes had better habitats than the dogs. Definitely not going back. It was extremely disheartening to have to leave knowing that these animals are probably miserable. read more
