Hard to put into words my gratitude to Valley Spinal Decompression Center. I walked in with constant cracking and neck pain. I Was having a hard time going about my busy day. I began to research alternative options , as my health provider recommended surgery or epidural shots , which I wanted to avoid at all costs. I came across a few other clinics who offer decompression services at a very costly rate . During my consultation appointment they reviewed my MRI and worked out a decompression treatment plan that literally picked me up and put me back on my feet . Where do I even start with Dr. Bruce? I'll start with the man himself. Such an awesome guy, and a true professional in this space. Most people that go to Dr. Bruce do so after countless failures with other treatment. The same went for me. I tried acupuncture, physical therapy, meds, Chinese meds, steroid injections, etc. None of it brought relief to my sciatic nerve pain. Then I went to Dr. B and he basically gave me my life back. I showed him my MRI, he knew that the treatment would help me, and it sure as heck did! Dr. B was a constant source of encouragement, knowledge on spinal care, and just overall great conversation. I came to him while I was borderline depressed from the pain that I was constantly in for months. My MRI showed an L5/S1 bulging disc that was constantly putting pressure on my sciatic nerve. There was a point during the treatment where my pain went down to ZERO. I had forgotten what that felt like. I now am gradually more active, lost a ton of weight to ease the pressure on my spine, and just feel like a healthy person again. I had no idea that constant pain, especially back pain could affect your entire life. That is why I say that Dr. B gave me my life back. I still keep in touch with him for advice and he's always willing to provide a maintenance adjustment. Just a couple of things to consider before getting the spinal decompression treatment here: - STICK TO THE PLAN! Go to your treatments consistently, rest your back as much as you can, hydrate, and wear your back brace after treatment - Bring him a copy of your MRI because the treatment is based on what your particular issue is (ie which disc is herniated, etc) - It can take a while to feel better. It's a process, but worth it in the end. I think my treatment was about 2 months, and noticeable relief started about 2-3 weeks in. It varies for some people, but keep doing the treatments and you should be good in 2 months or so - Finally, the work doesn't stop when your treatment ends. The treatment will get you out of pain, get the disc rehydrated, and lower inflammation in the joints and muscles. But when treatment is over, it's upto YOU to follow the instructions that he gives you. Strengthening your core, gradually exercising again, strengthening the muscle imbalances that caused your back pain in the first place, and things like that. I took almost 30 sessions with this guy and didn't get expected result at all. This guy sells his service telling that his magic decompression machine works very well. Let me tell this, it won't fix any issue you have with your spine instead it overextends you and which may lead to weak spine. Be careful when you choose this. You spend too much money and never get expected result after it. I really regret that I went to this guy. He took money and never solved my problem. Look for real doctor, real physical therapist. I am so thankful that I discovered Dr. Shannahoff on the internet, by mistake. I don't have any disc issues, but I've been in chronic back pain for about 4 years, moderately and 1 year, severely. I think it's my SI joint area, but could be near there. I've had two different MRIs and x-rays within the last 3 months that don't show the problem. He was VERY kind and patient to listen to my complaints on the phone. I cme in and he gave excellent service showing and explaining parts of my body that "may" be causing the pain. He is also priced very, very reasonably! You can clearly tell that he enjoys helping others and isn't in it for the money. He also gave me tips that no one has before such as: not to sleep on my stomach (super hard to do on night #1), to change the seat position in the car so that my knees are lower than my back (big help!!) and to make sure my head and neck have plenty of support while sleeping on my side. My recovery has been nothing short of miraculous, especially given some unusual circumstances. I came to Dr. Bruce barely able to walk and also 13 weeks pregnant - I had an 8mm disc herniation in L5-S1, a bulged disk in L4-L5 and severe spinal canal stenosis. On the brink of surgery, I was desperate to find an alternative and Dr. Bruce's name had been referred to me by multiple sources. Dr. Bruce took the time in our first session (which he was able to get me in the day after I called) to really get to know the full scope of my injury and my situation. With my OBGYN's approval, we were able to move forward with a full program of spinal decompression. I am now 31 weeks pregnant, and my pain has dramatically decreased. I was diagnosed with bulged disc on Nov 5, 2010 and was told by my pain management doctor that a surgery was a must since my disc was protruding 6 millimeters. Not to mention I had to take pain killers for the sciatica pain three to four times a day because the pain in my left leg was excruciating. I am so glad that I decided to research alternatives before taking a drastic measure. I found the Valley Spinal Decompression Center on the web and visited with Dr. Shannahoff who explained in detail what the procedure is like and what to expect. Dr. Shannahoff and his staff are very caring and compassionate people and I trusted I was in good hands from the very beginning. After I signed up I was introduced to Dr. Brim who was at my side throughout the whole therapy and cheered with me when my pain was diminishing by day. I am now 100% pain free and am currently undergoing spine muscles strengthening exercise at the same center. I feel my whole being is back to normal and I regret taking all the pain killers that only numbed me but didn't really take the pain away. I was in a lot of pain from my bulging disc & degenerative disc L5-S1 when I first met Dr. Shannahoff. When I first started seeing him, I could barely walk and couldn't drive my car. He treated me with the DRX 9000 spinal decompression and after only 2 weeks I was able to walk again and return to work. Dr. Shannahoff helped me. I have been suffering from back pain and left hip pain for years. To make things worse, I injured my right knee a month ago carrying a heavy box upstairs. I developed an 8mm cervical disc herniation earlier in the year. The pain was debilitating. Upon analysis of my MRI results all surgeons and 2 chiropractors highly recommended surgery to repair the disc. I highly recommend Dr. Bruce Shannahoff. I never realized how awful spinal pain can be. It effects every aspect of your life - physically, mentally and emotionally. I saw my work slipping, my putting off handling mundane things, not exercising and spending a lot of time in bed. I'd tried physical therapy at 3 different places, injections, and anything else my doctor and I could think of. I was walking with a cane- which didn't alleviate the pain. Neither did 4 Motrin every 4 hours. The MRI revealed that my severely herniated lumbar L5/S1 disc was pressing on my nerve. It was time to take more serious action. As a former Registered Nurse - I knew where to look. So, after much research, including a visit to a neurosurgeon, I opted for spinal decompression with the DRX9000. When I first went to see Dr. Shannahoff at Valley Spinal Decompression Center I had been suffering with severe neck pain that radiated down my left arm. I had been through weeks of physical therapy without improvement. An MRI showed that I had degenerative disc disease in my neck and the doctors told me I could try epidural spinal injections and that the next step would be to have spinal surgery. Dr.Bruce, This review has been so over due. I would like to thank you so much for your unconditional support and continuous support even now that I am done with my treatment. I want everyone to know that I was once skeptical too and I couldn't believe a machine would take away my pain BUT trust me it works. I am a 24 year old. I had 2 disc herniations (L4,L5,S1) . I was miserable. I had severe pain every night , I spent most of my days in the ER. I couldn't walk anymore .. my body was literally shaped like an S from the pain I had in my left leg and back. On my first visit, Bruce reviewed the MRI in detail, and described the process of spinal decompression. The first thing you notice is the care and compassion he has for all his patients. One part I would also like to highlight - Dr. Shannahoff stresses the need to be committed to the treatment (which I completely understood, and related to as a former college athelete). Bruce provided a thorough explanation on the mechanics of the treatment, and the time that was needed to give the treatment the best opportunity for success. I made the commitment (and my best recommendation - go with the program, and dedicate the time for the treatment) and proceeded. I can tell you I started the treatment having a constant tingling and numbness radiating down my arm to my fingers (along with the ever increasing pain when I lifted my arm to shoulder height). I had been dealing with pain, and numbness/tingling in my neck, shoulders, arms and hands for years. I had went to physical therapy for over 5 years, and tried other methods such as massage, muscle relaxants, and exercise, to deal with the pain and discomfort. After my second MRI, I found out my condition had worsened, and I was diagnosed with 2 herniated discs, and 2 bulging discs, all in my neck, as well as spinal stinosis and a really straight neck. I had been told by several specialists my condition was severe. I was led to believe the only solution was to have neck surgery, which was absolutely terrifying. As a person in my early thirties, who never underwent surgery before, neck surgery was not an option; I realized I had a choice but something had to be done. It is not common for a 28-year-old active person to be bed ridden due to the inability to walk. That was my case in July 2011. I injured my back in March playing sports. At first I thought it was my hip because the pain was coming from that area. The MRI showed that I had a bulging disc in L3-L4 and a slight herniation in S1. It progressively worsened and after nine weeks of frustration with chiropractic care, acupuncture and three epidural shots, it got to the point where I could barely walk, sleep, or sit for more than twenty minutes at a time. The only thing I could do was lie in bed and take painkillers to numb the excruciating pain. The pain had moved from my hip and was now shooting throughout my entire right leg with a pain level of a 9 out of 10. Luckily, my friend's dad recommended Dr. Shannahoff to me. He had success with Dr. Shannahoff after going through similar circumstances. My friend's dad explained how he was scheduled for back surgery but was afraid to go through it. The sessions that I had with Dr. Shannahoff were the best doctor's visit experience that I had ever had. I had two herniated discs in my lower back, lumbar disc, one was 11 mm and the other was 4 mm. I had severe lower back and leg pain. I was not able to move much, and lost the ability to do normal daily actives. I could not even walk without suffering from severe pain in my back and leg. After visiting three MDs, I finally got an MRI, and the MD told me to have a surgery, steroid injection or some physical therapies. I was devastated knowing that I might need to have a surgery and never be able to go back to normal life again (I did some research online, surgery on spine can really have negative lifelong affect to quality of life). Then I found two chiropractors, but the experience was not good and I did not see any improvement. Finally I gave Dr. Shannahoff a call, surprisingly he answered my phone call during lunch time and give me an appointment the same day. I visited Dr. Shannahoff's office because I had a herniated disc in my L5, S1 disc granted I was a 22 year old undergrad so my days would consist of staring my day at 7am and going to work and then attend class until 5pm and then immediately coming home around 6 pm and just laying flat on my back which was the most comfortable position for me. I had this problem for 2 years and tried everything from chiropractic adjustments to steroid injections. I had lost hope and was already booking an appointment to undergo surgery. This review is long over due because I was saved by Dr Bruce Shannahoff over 10 years ago. I came to see him crawling with a cane to help me get around. I had a L5 S1 discectomy surgery that helped my pain but one move to pick up laundry and I was in pain again. DO NOT GET SURGERY. I was referred to Dr Shannahoff and met with him with my MRI in hand. I had a 10 millimeter disc bulge compressing the sciatic nerve. He told me that Decompression Therapy would help me and that I had to be committed to it because it's not for everyone, it's not a quick fix like surgery but the end result will outlast any surgeries. I cried in the chair because I thought I would have to live with the pain for the rest of my life or die. He also told me that I would have to DRINK HALF MY BODY WEIGHT IN OUNCES OF WATER.
