PLEASE STAY AWAY FROM THIS FACILITY!!!!!! We had my mom go here for a respite visit (5 nights) she was admitted June 3rd, 2021 at 11:45am. The following morning June 4th, 2021 I called the facility to check on my mom when the intake coordinator stated "we have more paperwork for you to sign" ok cool I'll just pop in and visit my mom while I'm there. Dear lord.... When I walked in roughly around 9:15am I found my mom now comatose, laying in her own feces now dried to her and still in the same diaper she was admitted in. (I packed different colored diapers for her stay) her catheter hose was twisted shut, the humidifier was placed back on her oxygen machine after they were told to not put it on because my mom had lung cancer & there was SERIOUS concern of aspiration of fluids, my mom had not been administered any of her medication the first day she was there, I tested my mother oxygen levels and they were low 70s. I immediately went to the nurses station to ask them to explain to me why my mom was being neglected and they all just stated at me like I was speaking a foreign language. I called my hospice team and requested and emergency transport from the facility. As soon as I went to walk back down to my mom's room 2 nurses showed up with a sitting shower chair (my mom was bed bath only AND comatose) I told them to get out. Then another nurse showed up to try to change my mom. I told her: "Get out, I trusted you to take care of her when I wasn't here & clearly you cannot do your job. I'll change my mom myself" I refused everyone who came to the room until my transport team arrived to take my mother home. At the point where my transport team and I went to wheel mom out the nurses tried to tell me: " you can't leave with her, her oxygen is too low" my response was: "trust me, I know! And you only know because I did your job! Can you tell me how long my mother has been deprived oxygen?" They had no answer. We got my mother home.... She died less than 8hrs later on June 4th, 2021. This has been reported to the California department of public health. The San Diego county ombudsman, and I've contacted an attorney. I have witnesses, and even photographic evidence. My mother didn't deserve this & neither does your family member.

My mom's room once I arrived to bring her stuff over.

Wow. This is the first time I can say a place and the team has gone above and beyond for their patients and visitors. I am so glad I took a chance on this facility after doing my due diligence of reviewing all the highly rated rehab facilities in Escondido. I live in Rancho Bernardo but my mom lives in Escondido. The drive alone to visit my mom was worth it because I knew she was in great hands. Thank you to all the staff. The process was smooth from check in to check out. Thanks everyone!

My sister was admitted to Valle Vista on June 25, 2021 and my family removed her the following day. She was transported from a hospital to Valle Vista to regain her strength following brain surgery. When she arrived, they had nothing in place for her. (NO pain meds and NO "food" for her feeding tube) They weren't sure if those items would arrive before morning. The charge nurse hadn't shown up for her shift so the nurse at the desk was edgy as they were scrambling to get my sister's room set up. It took three attempts with different oxygen machines before one worked. (Faulty machines....outdated electrical outlets.....or both?) Because of "policy" a family member wasn't able to stay the remainder of the night in her room to see if she was safe and being attended to. Besides the lack of medical care, the room was run down and depressing. The wall behind one of the beds had been repaired but not repainted (big white patch). The remote to adjust the old bed was yellowed and dirty. There was an old fashioned fluorescent light hanging on the wall next to the bed but the string (attached to a little chain) to turn it on was at the foot of the bed. How would a person who is rehabbing possibly reach it? I couldn't stomach going in the bathroom but another family member did, and suggested that I avoid it. While looking around at the faculties I couldn't help but think, "With all of the job availability in the health care field, who would choose to work here?" And then it all made sense! Ugh!

I came to OT Zone in a moment of desperation and panic. Through foster care, adoption and biology,…read moreI've been a parent to 31-children over the years. Many of my children have lived through horrific circumstances, circumstances that have absolutely altered their brain functioning. Things that love alone cannot overcome. My youngest child, "A" is a superstar in many ways, but her trauma was keeping her from meeting her potential in her extracurriculars and her preschool classroom. At 3-years old, we were facing expulsion from preschool because her trauma behaviors were so disruptive. Her teachers had tried everything, and though they love her very much, they couldn't sacrifice the wellbeing of the classroom much longer. When I spoke owner of OT Zone, I immediately broke down in tears. She gave me a flicker of hope when I was feeling defeated and unsure about my child's future. As somebody who has parented many children, I know what happens to children when early intervention doesn't happen - or, God forbid, when it's not enough. My child's intense and spirited personality were life saving for her in the start of her life, but just because she's now in a safe family where she is forever cherished doesn't mean those behaviors go away. Nicole understands this and conveyed to me that she sees my child's nuances as strengths just like her daddy and I do. Ms. Dani, A's regular therapist, has a gentle approach that is collaborative, which is perfect for a child who still lives part-time in fight or flight mode. She asks a lot of A but not in a way that makes A feel unsafe, for example she doesn't demand eye contact from A - something that traumatized children with histories of neglect can't give to those outside of their most intimate family circle, but she does patiently demand communication, which she elicits. A's sessions are structured but definitely child driven. One of my favorite parts is how cooperative sessions can be between the other clients and their therapists and A. At the end of sessions, Dani takes a few minutes to give me feedback on how to manage challenges we're having out in the wild - like in demanding environments where a lot of being asked of my child who is a part-time fight or flighter. We have had many wins, all baby steps but wins nonetheless, since starting at OT Zone. For example, A was not expelled from preschool and in fact saw enough behavioral gains that we were asked to put her in TK instead of another year of preschool. At gymnastics, she is now navigating the environment much more successfully. A has reclaimed some power and gained ways to communicate when she's too overwhelmed to use words. Even though I've parented a kabillion kids, and quite honestly know a good 50% of what Dani is doing with A, sometimes you need to pay somebody a couple hundo to work with your child and your family to make the things that you already know work for you. There's a lot that goes into healing a child with trauma, and I've learned that it's probably a life long process. Not one thing is enough, you've got to do all the things, and for my family OT Zone has become one of the most important things we've done to help A. A loves her days at OT Zone, she looks forward to her sessions with Joy. It's not easy, the family still needs to do the work, but the team you get at OT Zone is invested, they want your kid to have success and to be more than okay, they want your baby to be happy out in the world doing regular kid things. If my child, with everything she's been through before she became my forever child, can have some success then I bet you anything that your biological child with autism, or sensory issues, or CP, or learning disabilities or just sensitivities to life can have success too. Your child's happiness is everything and hope in your little one's future is a gift. This is for sure an investment while you wait for insurance reimbursement or regional center funding or shaking out the couch cushions but it's worth it and if you're reading this long a$$ review then you probably need this intervention pretty badly already so just do it. Okay?!

The sessions are advertised as 30 minutes, but in reality they feel much shorter. The therapist usually spends the first 5-10 minutes letting our son play, then about 15 minutes on actual therapy, and the last 10 minutes cleaning up and wrapping up the session. When I called to ask about it, the person I spoke with said it's because insurance only allows them to bill for 15 minutes of therapy. It's frustrating to pay so much when only about 15 minutes of the appointment is actual therapy time. Overall, we were not impressed and ultimately decided to pull our son out.
