I am a retired nurse and my husband and I have been caring for our aging parents for the past eight years. Never before have we seen such a strong partnership between Physical Therapy and Nursing. They make something incredibly difficult look easy. And we know firsthand that it is anything but. Our mom is a vulnerable 88-year-old navigating a difficult journey. The staff are responsive, attentive, and compassionate. They visibly slow down for her when she needs it, speak to her with dignity and respect, and encourage her while continuing to push her toward her goals. They do this even on the busiest days, when it is clear they are working hard to meet the needs of everyone in their care. No group of people is perfect, and neither is Ocean View. But what we see every day is the striving. The teamwork. The professionalism. The humanity. We don't know whether Mom will ultimately recover from her trauma. But what we do know is that Ocean View is giving her the best opportunity to do so. My mother was a patient here for a foot wound and came out with a stage 4 wound on her tail bone which is a bed sore caused by not rotating her. It is a life threatening wound and I got her out immediately. I looked it up on Google to see how this could have happened. It said: " In the medical community, a stage 3 or stage 4 pressure injury is widely classified as a "NEVER EVENT"- a catastrophic medical error that is highly preventable and should never occur under proper care. It is a sign of institutional neglect. " The damage is life threatening and the chances of her surviving this is slim. I thought since it was rated 5 stars she was in competent hands. I visited her almost every day. I am so sad this was going on right under my nose. Getting her records was almost impossible. It took at least 4 weeks of being given the run around. Don't make the mistake I did if your love your family member. read more

My mother was not strong enough to go home and Oceanview was the closest SNF. I saw it was rated 5 stars I have high expectations, Oceanview and the staff did not disappoint. The facility is clean, the rooms are attended to often and the staff is very friendly. shout out to Ramona, the face of Oceanview, Annette, Suki, Queenie, Priscilla, Irish and many others I'm forgetting to name. The OT and PT staff worked hard as well and we were able to bring mom home! No offense but I hope we don't have to return. Feeding the neighborhood horses was also a bonus for myself and the kids when visiting! read more

Front desk seems incompetent, can't answer simple questions. Said the only person who could answer was on the phone and they would call me back, waited over an hour for a call back that never happened. So i called back and again couldn't help said they would transfer me to a nurse or that they could walk over there, she opted to transfer me and of course no one answered and call just dropped. Lazy, very frustrating. Getting my mother transferred to another facility, can't trust they care about her well being there. read more

We recently brought my father here after 2 weeks in the hospital (2 days after his first round of chemotherapy). Absolutely nothing was a positive experience from the moment we got there. 1. They assigned him to a room with another patient who had a condition that resulted in them yelling non-stop day and night. Nothing against this patient, but Ocean View should have planned better than to put somebody who is in dire need of rest and sleep in a room with this situation. 2. During our intake, the nurses had no idea about any of his medications. They knew my father was being discharged from the hospital days in advance and that there were several medications that he would need daily. They made it clear that they had no idea what he needed or if the drugs he needed had been delivered. 3. Also during our intake, they told us that they can't allow him to use a walker until he is cleared by their Physical Therapist. I understand this but we arrived on a Sunday afternoon and were told that there was nobody there with the authority to approve his walker. Their solution was for him to hit the call button from his bed whenever he needed to go to the bathroom. We tried that three times. One time it took a nurse 15 minutes to show up, the other two times nobody came at all. Their plan was to have him go to the bathroom in his bed until they could assign a walker to him. I went and found some people in the PT department to explain that my father would without a doubt, try to get to the bathroom by himself with no walker before he went to the bathroom in his bed. They then told me that they did not have any walkers to assign to him. When I told them I was going to go buy one and bring it back, they double checked and magically found a walker for him. 4. During intake, they asked him about any dietary restrictions. We informed them that he had no limitations. When they brought dinner, it was canned carrot cubes and some mushy looking casserole. We then realized that the slip that came with the meal was marked as "no-chew". We informed the staff that he was given the wrong meal and does not have any restrictions. 45 minutes went by without anybody bringing a new meal. I went to the nurse's station to see what was going on. The head nurse apologized and told somebody that was standing back there to get him his dinner and a few minutes later, they brought it to him. Dinner that night was a slice of what looked like microwave pizza and a more canned cubed carrot cubes. He was supposed to be there for at least a week because he lives on the 3rd floor and was in no condition to climb stairs. After a night of no sleep at all because of the conditions in the room, he checked himself out. We've been risking the stairs ever since. I know these places are understaffed and it seems like the bar is set very low regarding expectations. The main concern was the fact that they had no idea about his medications and expected him to go to the bathroom in his bed. Both of these seem very avoidable but it seemed like business as usual over there. Everybody there was friendly, but fell far short of the level of care we expected. I should have known right off the bat that a place called "Ocean View" that is located 20 miles from the ocean was not going to meet expectations. read more

Of all the skilled nursing facilities I've been to, this is the cleanest and nicest facility I have been to compared to facilities I have been as a guest and as a per diem medical worker. I've been to ones that will smell horrid no matter what part of the building, OceanView of Escondido is the opposite. The admins, nursing and clinical staff have been very accommodating and attentive to my mother-in-law. We are lucky to have found them. read more

My review is as a short-term rehab facility, I don't have personal knowledge of long-term residency. I had a good experience with the Rehab Department. I spent approximately 2 1/2 months at Ocean View after being diagnosed with GBS. I was only 2 1/2 weeks since onset of feet & leg paralysis so I was in bad shape, still had lots of pain, on morphine, and had other GBS symptoms (symptoms start plateauing at 4 weeks). The first person I met from the rehab department was Ryan, the Director. He was orienting me on physical and occupational therapy at the facility and he also knew some things about GBS, which was more than I can say about the doctors at the hospital that trepidatiously diagnosed me, since none of them had seen it before. Ryan impressed me right away and I was happy to hear I would have PT and OT almost every day. The Rehab department brought me from quite a mess to a strong person who could go home to handle the next phase of my recovery. On the PT side, my sensei was Agnes, who's equal parts hard working, scary and zany! It made for some intense yet fun PT. She got me to do things I didn't think I could do, and helped me get stronger and stronger. I will always appreciate her for that. I also had a new person, Katie a few times and found she was very knowledgeable in some things I was going through so I appreciated her sharing wisdom in those areas. On the OT side, I worked with several people, mostly with Kyle, who was great. Like Agnes, Kyle also got me to do things I never thought I could do. In the early days, he started me on hygiene, which was appreciated by everyone around me! Because of his kindness and empathy, I fully trusted that he cared about me and my recovery, not just doing things to check a "goal" box. I even let him work with my "bad arm," (which I didn't let anyone else do, because with anyone else, it would burn afterward). The exercises he chose never hurt my arm. Kyle was very knowledgeable and thoughtful about the exercises he chose and I will always appreciate what he did for me. I also worked with Jane, who was caring and joyful, Nicole who had some fun adaptive devices she taught me to use and Kimberly who was very goal oriented. I also want to thank Amelda who could always be found where anyone needed help. In a residential facility, I think people will view their experience as good or bad based on the people who care for them on a day to day basis, the nurses and nurse assistants. This place has a few duds but by and large, they have a hard working, caring group. I want to give my thanks to my knowledgeable and experienced wound nurse Connie. I had a stage 4 pressure ulcer from the hospital and it was significantly reduced in a short amount of time thanks to her. Also, want to thank Generose, whether she is being a wound nurse or med nurse, she is wonderful, kind and knowledgeable. Also want to thank the med nurses: first Rosie, who stayed with me pass the end of her shift because I was scared when having an episode at night (I consider her God-sent), Carmen ("Carmelita"), Dominic, Lexi, Christina, Glenn, other Carmen, Mona, Amy, Jackie and new nurse Anthony! I want to thank the good hardworking CNAs who are the ones that do most EVERYTHING for us: Suki, Lucia (when I saw one of these 2 women on duty, I knew everything would be fine no matter what happened), Kiki, Pearly, Lane, Nadia, Annie, Maria, Asia, Samantha, Dionne, Freddy, Romeo, Flor, Emily and Rhoda. Thanks to the people in the background like Maria and Teresa who kept the rooms clean every day. Also, want to thank Dr. Lee and Arvin, NP, who made sure all my medical needs were taken care of. It takes a village! Thank you all for your hard work! As for cons... The facility could improve the food (I think the food improved over the time I was there but there is still definitely room for improvement). Also, the second room I was in had no window on my side and the privacy curtain between my roommate and I wasn't open for me to see the window so I couldn't tell if it was night or day and I was slightly claustrophobic there. With all the work that the CNAs do, maybe a couple floaters would be nice for the special projects like feeding ones, or having to sit with ones round the clock. Even with a few cons, I would recommend this facility because of all the good people I worked with and who took good care of me! read more

My dad was ordered Strict orders from the Hospital and was ignored, now his health worsen due to that negligence. The oversight and negligence--very unprofessional! The activity manager Dylan yelled at my mom but I was off to the side and saw the whole thing. Dylan thought I left the facility. And continued yelling with other personnel telling him to stop. I will continue to state and start talk with the senator about state facilities. This is a bad facility I can say worse but I will wait for an official investigation. I was hospitalized at Palomar for 4 nights with my first broken leg in 75 years. The orthopedist said I could not put any weight on that leg for at least eight weeks so I would go to a rehab facility. I think it's a Medicare rule to have to be hospitalized at least 3 days before going to a rehabilitation facility. When I was transferred there on a Sunday, I was immediately struck by the cleanliness of the facility, as well as the warm, welcoming professional attitude of the staff! Even neighbors who visited me during my several week stay remarked on the same. What was supposed to be a step down facility was actually a step up from my care at the hospital, including cleanliness, punctuality, physician, rehabilitation, and nursing care! I have spent my entire career in the medical profession, having been on staff of a good 12 hospitals, and this was striking! Even the friendly and efficient housekeepers did an excellent job cleaning my room daily, including sanitizing all the flat surfaces. Yep!...I have seen many sad "horror shows" regarding SNFs, but I would have a family member be admitted there in a heartbeat! read more

I am writing this review for Ocean View Post-Acute skilled nursing facility at 1980 Felicita Rd which used to be Life Care Center of Escondido. My mom was in this facility for 4 weeks from late November to right after Christmas 2023. I cannot speak highly enough about the entire staff at this facility; the care they provided was beyond our expectations, the food was delicious, and the facility was incredibly clean. She was transferred from Palomar Hospital and they handled everything smoothly. Everyone was wonderful; from the amazing front desk staff (Ramona & Nicole) to all of the kind and compassionate nursing staff that I encountered on my daily visits (Violi the RN Manager, Ann, Kinuko/Kiki, Isabel, Virginia, Glen, Shelly, Luisa, Myla, Divina, Lexie, Carmen, Nadia, and there were also others but I sadly forgot their names). I also want to recognize the PT and OT staff who were absolutely amazing while helping my mom get her strength back and helping her with her daily activities; Krystal, Gene, and Kimberly went above and beyond - they are top notch! Her Case Manager Debbie was so kind and wonderful to work with. Rob with Social Services was always there to greet us with a smile on his face and his door was always open if we had any questions. I also want to acknowledge Flor in Admissions for the seamless discharge. I would definitely recommend this facility for care. read more

My wife has been in Ocean View now for 6 weeks of rehab and I have been able to be here from 4 to 6 hours a day to visit and have come to know this facility and many of their employees well. I find Ocean View to be well run and amazingly clean... I see active housekeeping staff 7 days a week and at all hours. From Romona, who will greet you as you enter, to CNAs like Rhoda (my favorite), the nurses, the many physical, occupational and speech therapists, the great activities staff, Jacob, Alexa and Dylan and even the facilities staff, you will be greeted with smiles and enthusiasm. It is obvious that they enjoy caring for their patients... and that is the key to receiving excellent care. One surprise to me is the consistent quality of the food... it is well prepared and delicious... upon my first visit while evaluating this facility, I talked to patients who volunteered that they were looking forward to the next meal! I could not have chosen a better place to care for my wife of 54 years! read more
