This isn't somewhere I frequent because let's face it, how often do I need to go into a hardware store. This most recent visit was to buy a new toilet. After researching online we discovered that Valu had the one we wanted. We were greeted warmly at the door by both the cashier and a gentleman asking if we needed help, though not in a pushy way. We declined because we like to be able to look at merchandise prior to having an employee with us. Once we checked it out and decided on our purchase we were able to get an employee right away to go to the back to bring it out for us. They wheeled it up to the cashier for us and then loaded it into our car. Quick and easy. If they carried more items I needed I'd shop there more often. 21-3 read more

I used to dread going to the hardware store, feeling overwhelmed by the hundreds of different types of nuts and bolts, tools, paints, pipes, wood beams and boards, electrical wiring etc and a million other things that I don't understand what the heck they are used for. That dreaded feeling I'm going to walk the long aisles, up and down, and still not finding the specific thing I need. Exhausted, like I just went to the gym type of feeling. Is not the feeling I get when I enter a Valu home center. I like going there because it's a midsize hardware store, easy to find what you need, very decent prices (especially if you enroll in their rewards program) and best of all their really is "customer service." Today, like many days before when I entered the store, a friendly employee was quick to greet me and asked me if they could help to find me what I'm looking for. When I'm so pressed for time, this means a lot to me. I often find the very thing I came to the store for, but because I'm not scouring through a humongous store, I end up having a few minutes to browse for other things that I might want to buy in the future. Now I have my eyes set on LED lighting for under the kitchen cabinets and an American Standard toilet. Exciting stuff!! Maybe Santa will bring me these goodies? I've been a very good girl this year. Funny thing, five years ago I bought a bookshelf at this very store that I really grown to appreciate use in my home office. Having moved to a new house recently, I thought it would be nice to have one more bookshelf to make a pair. One would not expect to buy furniture in a hardware store, but surprisingly Valu has a great selection of affordable and stylish wood furniture. The furniture brand name is Sauder. Valu sells this brand a few dollars cheaper than if you bought it directly from Sauder on their website. The store manager Joe, was very pleasant and efficient. He sweetened the deal by giving me a discount on the floor model and setting up delivery and a decent price. I couldn't be happier! Truly, the customer service is golden. It's what make me a repeat and happy customer. Plus, Valu is a family business. Not a publically traded company. They have thirty plus stores in New York and Pennsylvania. I stopped in because I was working on a DIY project and needed some brackets for a railing I was installing. Now I ALWAYS check online first to see what I need. Well online the prices are 40% lower and was telling me I could pay online and pick up in store. So I go in and all the items are higher and they are telling me the EXACT items have different SKU numbers. After a consult with the manager who refused to price match and assured me they HAD to be different... HE said they don't have any pricing issues. I select 2 because I had an early morning apt and needed it DONE ! They ring me up and the price isn't correct. They go over and sure enough the register is charging me a $1.79 more than the item is supposed to be .... soo... ok He abruptly comes over and changes the price and apologized for the trouble ... it was at that moment ... he should have offered a price match. Clearly there is a problem. Anywho .. store is clean, organized and there are plenty of folks to help with your selections read more

I now shop at valu home centers because they respect my second amendment right to carry concealed. Good job valu!!

My wife and I needed to get our patio screen door repaired and after calling around a few places in Williamsville, Valu seemed like the best price and quickest turnaround. We took the screen in very late on a Thursday night. The staff worked to get us a great price on the repair and told us that they would get it to us as soon possible. Our expectations were exceeded as they called us the next day and told us that our screen was ready! We couldn't believe how quickly they got it done. The repair was flawless and the price point was excellent. Staff went the extra mile to make sure that we were happy, which we appreciated! We shop there often and are part of their loyalty program. Valu is a bit of a step back in time, and that isn't a bad thing. Sometimes, you just need to pick up a couple of home do-it things and don't really need the vastness of the Big Box home improvement stores. You're nearly always greeted by a helpful associate and if they don't know the thingy you're searching for, they'll find someone who does. Can't beat that. Plus, it's hard to get lost in a place the size of Valu. The sale items are usually really good deals and in season; the paint department is fairly large and their spray paint selection is enormous. They do not sell garden plants, but they do sell lawn care products, bird seed, mouse traps, home storage and organizing solutions, wind chimes, plumbing supplies, automotive tire dressing, chain by the foot, pretty standard hardware store merchandise. The only thing I'm not impressed with at Valu is that the cashiers are unempowered to make even small, uncomplicated adjustments. They need to call a manager and call him mister, too. Now THAT step back in time belongs in the black-and-white television era. I'm not a frequent shopper here, but I do value Valu for the ease of in-and-out purchases, great sale items and a generally hassle-free shopping expedition. read more

It's very rare that I set foot in Valu but let me tell you why I do. The loose hardware fasteners aisle and the spray paint aisle are an absolute gem when you need them. Sometimes I don't need a box of 100 drywall screws or an entire pack 3/8" flat washers. I only want one. Going to Valu GIVES you that individuality to be yourself. That's all i want today. You pick out exactly how many fasteners you need, stick them in a little clear plastic baggy, and write their individual price per unit on it (using the honor system of course). I remember doing the same thing 20 years ago using the same exact cheesy plastic pens chained to the same exact store racks. Ahhh good memories man. The real hidden gem in all of this, is the spray paint wall See, the issue with buying spray paint is that you can never have too many cans. Just when you think you need Gloss Black, it turns out it was actually Flat Black!! Damn! I shoulda bought both when I was there. I don't know how or why, but spray paint is always on some sort of permanent sale at Valu giving you the opportunity to grow and nurture your can collection. Yes, I know. I get their wonderful 2 page ad in the mail once a month but who has time to read when I have things to spray paint. Sitting here just thinking about that 8 foot high wall of spray paint cans is getting me all jonsed up thinking about the colors I don't have! Other than that, I think they sell some other stuff like fertilizer and shovels. read more

This place is okay in a pinch. It smells like volatile organic compounds, the employees all seem depressed, and the stuff they sell is meh. Kinda cheap and junky. But again, if you need paint in a pinch or something for the garden, it's okay. read more
