Great location tones of great items, staff friendly. Prices are decent however if there is no price they will not sell it! No point in calling a manager they will just point at a sign. Completely ruined my entire trip because who is to say the item will be there another time. This is an issue that needs to be resolved idk if they make the item $5 $12 whatever. No retail store would allow this so try to compromise something. read more

I really enjoy shopping at Value World, they have various locations around the Detroit area. I live near the Westland store, but often visit the Taylor location, both always seem to have something I want,but not need.(lol). Shopping at Value World is like therapy to me very relaxing, good atmosphere and nice staff. This is one of my favorite places to browse around. I always find something unexpected when I go there. I can always be found in the housewares, as the dishes and the art are two of my favorite things! But I've also found brand name clothing at reasonable prices. I'm there so often, the people that work there chat with me all the time and I get the best service at all times. Check it out if you're a thrifter! Value World provides me with an opportunity to shop for vital materials at a reasonable price.  They have a wide variety of clothing here which makes the place particularly attractive.  Most of the clothing is priced just where it should be.  A lot of it is in very good condition and appears as if it hadn't even been worn.  Their shoe selection is limited but dresses, pants, blouses, shirts, ties, pants, suits, sweaters - all are top of the line and worth a look.  Everything is color and size coded making shopping convenient. They have a nice sized book selection and the prices are reasonable.  Books range through all topics and are in good condition.  They have magazines and other reading material as well.  Their music selection is available though limited and dependent on recent acquisitions.  Any collector would want to take a look. I enjoy their specialty counter which features items ranging from jewelry to the unique and sometimes odd.  Always worth a look. The people that work here are hardworking and pleasant to interact with.  I like going here.  It's a bright spot. read more

I really like this Value World, and since I live nearby, it's become my go-to for all my clothes needs. I've spent cumulatively dozens of hours in here at this point, so let me tell you the good and the bad. The good: this place is PACKED with stuff. Soooo much stuff. According to them, they get thousands of new pieces every day. There is a wide selection of types of clothes and every category contains many options. It's a spacious building with a huge parking lot, even when it's busy it doesn't feel crowded. It doesn't smell musty, like some thrift stores. I can always find multiple pieces here that I really like, and although there've been a few complaints in the reviews about pricing, I think the pricing is actually quite fair, and comparable to other local non-profits like Goodwill and Sal. Army. On average I can get about ten pieces of clothing for $50. Especially considering the price of first-hand clothes right now, that's a steal. If you join the rewards program they regularly do flash sales of 50% off everything in store or one category, like winter clothes. The bad: the items are organized by color rather than by size, which forces you to look through many more clothes before you can find something that fits. Some areas are so jam-packed with clothes you cannot look at any one individual piece without pulling it off the rack. Many of the shirts and blouses are hung on a lower rack that comes up to about knee level, so you either have to bend over or kneel to look at those tops, both of which seem like gross, unpleasant options to me. It's not the cleanest place in the world, but comparable to other thrift stores. SOME individual pieces do have confusingly high prices that seem out of place, but that's the exception, not the rule. Worst part of the store to me is the music they play, but I just bring headphones. read more

I was in the store to get some books. I go to this store often because I can stop in on the way home. I even gave one a the workers $15 as a gift/ tip for them to go out with one night. Tonight, I was treated very rudely when I asked about getting the other $2 from my reward that I was shorted the night before. The cashier just responded, "That sucks." I put down my purchase and left immediately. How rude!! He may have had a bad night, but his rudeness was uncalled for...RUDE!! By the way, he was the one I had given the $15! read more

I was quite disappointed in this thrift store. It's huge, and has a tremendous amount of shoes and clothing (and clothing accessories), and a smaller, but still substantial amount of children's toys. This is probably a dream thrift store for most women. And if you're a man, looking for clothes - big selection, as noted. For me, since I don't go into thrift stores for any of those things, it's a wasted trip. I look for electronics, furniture, housewares, artwork, and more importantly, DVDs. All of which was either in very short supply, or, simply wasn't present. Shopping for clothing? This is definitely the spot. This is basically a really great used clothing store. I was in the area visiting as I live and work in the Clearwater, Florida area (real estate) and I love to shop at thrift stores. This Value World has great prices (low), variety, and selection for clothes. This store is huge. The cashier was nice, fast, friendly and helpful. However there are a few drawbacks 1. They do not have a public restroom which can pose a problem for children who need to use a restroom 2. They do not have dressing rooms which does not give shoppers value to try on clothes before purchasing. 3. The women's jeans are not separated by small, medium, large, and extra large so if you are looking for jeans you will have to search one by one. 4. The better quality items are in a restricted area so if you need help you will have to ask for someone to help you and wait til they show up. The #1 reason to shop here is the low prices. I've been to a lot of thrift stores in my day and this is one of the best ones I've been to. A perfect combination of wide variety, good condition, and reasonable prices. There's nothing more irritating than the thrift store that thinks it's a high end consignment shop and charges almost what things would cost new. This place is not like that. Seriously folks, the more reasonable the prices are the more likely we are to spend money there, correct? That's certainly true for me. I bought a couple of snow suits, a couple of Christmas shirts, a couple of kids overalls, and a couple of hand crocheted baby blankets. The most expensive thing I bought was a really nice Christmas cardigan sweater, very unique and looks like good quality, about $4.50. Most items were under $3 and some were under a dollar. A couple of the items I bought were the color tag that was on 50% off sale so they were even cheaper. The only thing I was disappointed about was that they didn't have any yarn, and that's only because whatever they had had already been found by someone else. You win some you lose some. I left a very happy customer and would be back here frequently if I lived in town. I only wish I had discovered it sooner. A friend of mine mentioned this store casually when I asked about thrift stores but she didn't indicate that it was a really good one. I just finally decided to give it a try one evening when I didn't have anything else to do and I'm glad I did. read more

When some ladies get stressed out, they go shopping. Often, that version of "retail-therapy" involves a boutique or a mall. Blech. Malls in general almost always tend to make me feel *more* depressed no matter my mood. So, they aren't exactly a good pick-me-up in my case. I have my own version. When I'm feeling like a stress-case (or heck, also when I'm in a perfectly fine mood), I find thrifting therapeutic. I can zone out as I cull through the racks in search of something just-right. I can go through all of the sweaters and dresses to find one where the fabric feels just right (don't worry, I keep hand sanitizer in my car!), and I can scan rows and rows of shoes or dig through collections of belts for juuust the right one. Well, I had an extra 40 minutes or so the other day, was in the midst of some stressful stuff, and I found myself not to far from this Value World. I'm glad I stopped. The place feels *huge*! I'm not entirely sure if it's actually larger than other VWs or if its just that is has really high warehouse-style ceilings. In any case, I walked out of here with 2 dresses, 2 pairs of cute vintage sandals, a belt and a brooch -- all for about $17. Now do you understand why thrifting's so satisfying for me? Today was my first visit to this Value World. I loved the expanse of the store. It felt neat and clean and well stocked. I was prepared to spend some time choosing items for purchase, however it only took me a few minutes to realize that the prices have been inflated to the point of ridiculous. $14 for a pair of shoes, $7.80 for a stuffed toy? I realize that some items have more value than others but these items were donated! Why price them so those that need them can't afford them? Even resellers are going to pass because there is not enough profit left to be made to make it worth their while. Please consider lowering your prices or I'm afraid you're putting yourself out of business and I really wanted to enjoy shopping here. read more

Although I'm embarrassed to say this, I really like thrift stores. There are so few places in this world that as a 26 YO woman I can really "let it all hang out" but at most thrift stores I can do that, really shamelessly. Especially in a place like Westland, Michigan. In all honesty, there is really no better place to be oneself (and pick up a sweet Pistons sweatshirt) than the Westland Value world. I really only have the nicest, most heartwarming things to say about this thrift store. The merchandise is really great. What I like is that stuff here is old. Really old. They've got great stuff like t-shirts that were alive before me and lots of videotapes of things that I have no desire to watch. There are also some great mugs here which is important because if you're like me, ensuring that you have an excessive amount of old mugs with irrelevant things is how you nest. The prices were on point. I mean, on the reg, every day, I spend more at the sequestered off vending machine at my graduate's school "cafe" than literally 80% of the items here. I say 42% jokingly. Also, the staff and their no nonsense attitude is really something to blush about. When I asked for a restroom, the cashier was straight up; she said there was one for emergencies. As someone with very deep historical trust issues, I'm sensitive to this kind of thing. I didn't want to be pushy and ask if I could use it because she seemed... Guarded? But I really appreciated her honesty. If you're stressed about either parking or the lack of desirable dining options nearby- don't. The parking lot was nice and big and I took up two spots which is great because America. There is a Tim Horton's nearby which is also great because Canada. read more

The location is large with things fairly well organized by item and color. As with all thrift stores check your sweaters for holes; the prices didn't necessarily reflect damage. This Value World was HUGE! It has a lot of sections and items to choose from and the selection was not picked over. I spent almost 20 minutes looking for skirts and there was a very nice quality and selection of sizes to choose from. A lot of nice name brand selections too. This store even had a Boutique where they kept some designer handbags, shoes etc. I browsed through the home goods sections very quickly but I will definitely be back. Especially, when the have the 50% off coupon out again. That's what kinda shopping. I am a man, a manly man; and because of my manliness, I go through shirts real quick - like from workouts, sports, clowning, yardwork, etc. This place is a blessing. I will gladly go here when I have a coupon or there is a clothing sale and walk out with a bag of 7 shirts for $9. Some will never be worn, some will just become workout shirts or chores shirts, but once in a while, you'll come across a shirt or 2 that will easily make it into the monthly rotation (especially long sleaved undershirts for the cold times). For being a thrift store, this place is incredibly clean, while maintaining that Thrift Store funk that we all love and joy. The staff is okay, I mean nobody went off at me for browsing the bookracks and reading and stuff, so that's cool. Besides the prices and the prime location from the mall, I am a huge fan of the stuff you will find. Stuff like: Disc 2 of season 3 of Sex & The City, a Microwave Cookbook from 1986, a bag of Christmas ornaments w/ a half box of hooks, A Fraternity Rush t-shirt from Valpo in 1996, a cassette single of Tony Terry "When I'm With You", shot glass that say Bahamas on it, A child's plastic toy kitchen set with the missing drawers, a Sports Illustrated from June 2008, A pair of Hello Kitty plastic earrings that probably cost $6 at Claire's which is located behind the fancy glass display with two wedding dresses behind it, a Little League Baseball St. Louis Cardinal's Shirt - surpringingly sized XXL, a coloring book with nipples drawn on all the people in it, a kitchen decoration of a parrot - made out of a coconut, a toothpick holder shapped like a barrel, a pair of crutches you can get for $7 which will definitely spicen up "role playing", an alarming number of men's briefs (why would they sell used men panties?), a chess board missing 2 pawns and a bishop and both the white rooks, a plastic drink cup from Taco Bell promoting the new film, "Men in Black", and of course $12 fur coats that smell like a Scottish Terrier that knocked over granny's perfume. Stuff like that puts me in the doors. As long as Value World keeps bringing the goods, I'll keep spending my dough. read more

I'm a thriftaholic and I traveled 70 miles because I heard that this store had a huge book selection and that the prices were reasonable. This store indeed had a "larger than most" book selection, but I've seen bigger at other places so I wouldn't call it huge. As far as their prices being reasonable...if you're used to paying $5-$7 for 2nd handed clothing then it's reasonable. If you're used to finding higher quality clothes and authentic leather coats for $3-$5 like I am then this isn't the place for you. Their book prices are also ridiculous. Why pay $2.92 for an old hardcover cookbook that has less than 100 pages in it? I can get the same book elsewhere for 50 cents or a dollar. I understand the money is going to charity, but they shouldn't overprice other people's junk. Needless to say I won't be returning to this store again. read more

Went in on a whim and I can definitely say I'll be back. Was large and spacious and actually well lit some are so dark you can hardly see anything. I grabbed some killer shoes for $5.10 and the little "boutique" area has some higher priced knick knacks but some pretty cool funky coats. some things are a little higher than my usual thrifts but it's a solid #2 favorite now. read more

I've found some very sharp vintage fedora's here, but its rare.. Nice jeans, and occassionally shoes, belts, coats/ jackets. This was mostly before they moved into the new location. The prices are a little crazy sometimes, and the shoes behind the counter upfront, absolutly rediculous. I guess they forget that they were given donations threw the back door, and the stuff Purple Heart comes to pick up at you're house.. smh, but sometimes you can find some great things here. read more

I love thrift shopping, and this Value World location is now one of my favorite secondhand shops! I'd previously only been to the Downriver locations, but my mom spotted this one and thought we should check it out. I'm very glad we did, because it is by far the best Value World location in the area! Whereas most of the other Value World locations are hit-or-miss for me, I can't walk into the Westland store without finding something great. Huge selections of women's clothing and accessories. Having only visited this particular store three times, I've never even made it to the home good/books/entertainment end of the store because I get so caught up in searching through the clothing racks! Just a few days ago I bought an amazing blue cardigan, in perfect condition, for only $1.80 as well as a cute floral romper for only $2.10! The prices at all Value Worlds are great, but you just can't beat the selection at the Westland location. read more

I have a chess in my bedroom right now that I purchased from this Value World location. Most people don't know the real value of thrift stores. On this day, I walked in and went straight to the back which is where most of the furniture is kept. I immediately saw the chess, purchased it, and picked it up the next day. After going to four different thrift stores that day, Value World was the one that had a great piece of barely used furniture for a wonderful price (under $50 bucks). I have been to Value World several time and am very happy with it. The prices are very low and they have many items to choose from. I only have one complaint: They have so many things that some of the clothes racks are packed so tightly with clothes, that it's not easy to put the clothes back on the rack. A friend of mine told me about Value World a couple years ago. She knew I liked shopping at other thrift stores so we started going together to shop at Value World, then she moved away but I still love going. The only critique I can give is that I have noticed recently that the prices are creeping up. I shop there because it is such a great value and I hope it stays that way. I have found great jewelery pieces at fair prices, and I found a picture that my parents had hanging in their house when I was a kid. I have purchased many purses and toys for Christmas, too. They had the Weeble Haunted House I had as a kid so I was able to get it for my kids. I even bought my son a bike that he loves! I have also bought many pairs of jeans and t-shirts for my kids at good prices. They wear clothes out so fast that it's nice not to pay a premium for them. read more
