Michael is the most professional, knowledgeable and chill dude ever. I hadn't bought dress clothes in years and he went above and beyond to make sure I knew what I was getting and taught me tips and tricks on how to piece together a nice wedding outfit. I was ballin on a budget and he still got me right. I've only ever shopped for my dress clothes at Von Maur because of the excellent service demonstrated by Michael. The other gentleman there was professional as well, I just didn't work with them. Overall, great establishment. Plenty of options. You're paying more than Nordstrom rack but you get professional 1 on 1 service and guidance. You're also buying as an investment. It is very disappointing when you walk into a store that you've been shopping at for years and observe a noticeable decline in the quality of service. The level of service has not been consistent with the standard I have previously experienced at the Livonia Von Maur. I have been a customer since the store opened. Very much out of this middle class working girl, but when I need something special that is higher class, I come here. I was looking for vegan leather pants to wear since the night was TOO cold for my vegan leather skirt. I knew they would have them. Don't ask the price. The shoe department always gets my budget in trouble. But what I have brought causes others to ask where did I get those shoes/boots. Since I am a library administrator, I can't were hiking boots so I need something more dressy. By the pictures, you see I have found some here. When you are on your feet and have problem feet, you can't buy cheap shoes. Only come for special items so I am not sure when I will be back, but glad to have a high end store near. read more

During this interaction, the salesperson (Andrea Cook, Intimate Apparel) became argumentative rather than helpful. When I attempted to resolve the matter calmly, the situation escalated further, culminating in the salesperson making a passive-aggressive and inappropriate remark: "I'm going to pray that you have a good Christmas." I found this comment to be unprofessional and condescending, particularly in the context of an already tense exchange. Regardless of intent, remarks of this nature are not appropriate in a customer service setting and detract from the respectful and welcoming environment I expect from your store. I have been a customer of your department store because of its reputation for quality service, which made this experience especially disappointing. I hope this matter will be addressed so that future customers do not encounter similar behavior. I must add that for many customers like myself, shopping is an experience. When we come into your store to shop and spend money, we expect to be treated well. Otherwise, we could shop online and avoid these unfortunate situations. Please shop here before it is too late!!! This is the last great family owned, grand department store. We shoppers sold out by allowing self serve gas, poor quality import product with supply chain shortages and off shore call centers that literally take hours to get through to. This is pure Americana from the organized selves to the thoughtful purchasing, (exceptionally well planned in fashion items for sale) exceptional selection and fair prices. They offer alterations, gift boxes, real salespeople that know their products. Plus it is a luxury atmosphere not a warehouse with a cement floor that is littered with discarded items not purchased. Doreen Murphy, an employee in the juniors section downstairs, was very rude to me when I recently visited the store. She should not be the face of interacting with customers. They carry a lot of shoes but in a very small limited stock, either no room for storage or keep the style coming. But this also occurred in the lingerie section, they had a sale, but of course didn't carry the colors, or the size. So their solution is they ship it to the store for free, call the guest and then you have to drive back to try it and purchase it, if it fits or they can ship it out to you for free but hopefully you played God with what you think will fit so that way, you don't have to make that same trip to return and reorder it all over again. The ridiculous part is if your a size 8, they want you try a half size up or down because that style magically could fit you. Even though size 8 has been the lucky shoe size for years. I figured I ask them where Lladro is made, national know brand around Europe, don't think that was the topic for about 15 minutes while they had to ask the other associates for answers. Wouldn't you know what a $2500 statue would come from, history, the story behind it. No they were to concern with getting the Fourth of July pom poms tacky decorations up. Guess they only hire staff that come in and get that check and leave, no desire to give those customers the one on one recommendations or knowledge because they were never taught correctly. I was looking for last minute "20's" items for our roaring 20's party tomorrow. I left with a tie, suspenders, and a shirt. He said they had a special on suits, just under $400 and if I brought him back by the time they closed, it could be altered and pressed FOR TOMORROW. We came back together and he purchased a suit, shoes and a tie clip. He was measured by a wonderful seamstress, forgive me for not remembering her name. She was very good and interested in the smallest of details to make sure the end result was perfect. I was called at 8pm by the seamstress, only two hours later! I swear by this store. I once had to order a dress I wanted but, they didn't have my size in store. I was sent thre size I needed to my home with a hand written "Thank You for your purchase! Great place to shop for my mother! They gift wrap too. It looks expensive but there are very nice deals if you poke around. I found my mom a cashmere plus size twinset here for like 50 bucks. Now this is what I'm talking about! This is a real department store, not some discount delight. It's ultra high-end and I'm drawn to it like a moth to a flame. They have a piano sitting smack dab in the middle of the sales floor! Great designer names, the most awesome cosmetics counters ever and lots of cushy places to rest your weary feet. I make a special trip out of my way just to come here, but fortunately, I have in-laws living in the area. Yes, the price points are sometimes a killer, but their selection in just about every area is beyond reproach and they sometimes have pretty good sales as well a couple of times a year. The shoe section is unreal, so many luxe labels from which to choose. Customer service is pretty stellar. It has that extra special personal touch, regardless of the department. And it smells good, too, when you walk in the door. The restrooms are really chic, too. They don't look anything like a typical department store restroom, with their high-end soaps and moisturizers lining the vanity, fancy fixtures and ambient lighting. When my bank account was smaller, this was not a store I'd even contemplate walking into, they have a pianist for goodness sake! Now that I'm older and we're more comfortable, we ventured in to find a formal dress for Mila's 8th grade dance. We went here to ensure no one else would have the same dress. Von Maur delivered! We found a beautiful dress for well under $100, while looking around, I found that Von Maur had many affordable items, and to Milas surprise, it was the "esthetic" she was going for this summer!. There were even sale racks filled with quality clothes items that I would like to. I will go back to VM, however the rest of Laurel Park mall is dying, much like a closer Westland Mall, so it might be a quick stop on the way to Twelve Oaks. read more

This is a great department store. Better than the Von Maur that I am more familiar with in the suburbs of Chicago. I walked in needing a shirt and tie for my father who had passed away the day before. The sales person in the men's department was so caring, and so helpful, she made me feel that I had been a loyal customer for years. And since it was the end of her shift- when I couldn't decide on what tie to get, she introduced me to another sales person who helped me get a beautiful tie. And not only did she quickly check me out and get me on my way, but she hugged me and offered her condolences. Who does that today? Spied a cute pair of shoes on my way out that I will go back and get when there is time. I had these shoes I had to return because they hurt too much, and they took them back... WORN! The sales people are so friendly and their customer service is the best like I said. The first Von Maur I encountered was near University of Michigan and I immediately loved it. This Von Maur at Laurel Park Place is also great. To me, Von Maur is similar to a Nordstrom...hosting designer clothing and shoes, as well as fragrances, lingerie and cosmetics. I don't believe there are too many Von Maur's around the country, it is definitely a Midwest thing. So when you come here, expect to pay the price for designer clothes or shop through the clearance racks for good deals. I bought these super cute Michael Kors wedges for only $90 dollars. The best thing about Von Maur (that can also be the worst thing) is the interest-free credit card. This is what gets me in trouble!!! I love this department store! I will start with saying that this review is based on my one and only visit. Upon walking into this store, I was shocked at how beautiful it is! It looks kind of old fashioned and classic. I can tell it was something amazing back in the day... and even though it's outdated - it's still lovely. I ended up buying a handbag.. a designer handbag. Normally I don't splurge like this but this bag practically begged me to buy it! The sales lady was so patient and kind. I was trying to decide between 2 colors and I was taking stuffing out, trying them on my shoulder, texting pictures to a friend, and basically suffering from some serious indecision. The sales associate never made me feel rushed or like I was a nuisance. My friend had already told me about the Von Maur charge card. So I was just prepared to get one if I decided to make a larger purchase. Even though I was a sure bet to open a card, the lady still went over the benefits.. like no interest at all as long as u pay the minimum payment (better than 24% every month from Macys). You can also get free shipping and free gift wrap all the time. So I opened the card, bought the bag, and left happy. A couple of weeks later I received a handwritten note from the sales woman. Von Maur has carries nicer quality than many stores, which I love. At one time, they had exceptional customer service that surpassed Nordstrom's and Saks in every way. Barb and Gail have been quite helpful in the past. This is no longer the case, especially when you shop in the Women's Department on the Second Floor. I found a unique dress and needed a smaller size. It was like pulling teeth to have someone order it for me, but they did! Yay! Upon returning from vaca I had received a phone message stating the dress I had ordered was in. I phoned to make sure the dress was still on hold, since I live an hour's drive from the Livonia store. Please hope you don't get Bonnie as a sales clerk! She answered the phone and interrupted me saying she was too busy to take calls. She had customer's and I needed to phone back. I took a chance and phoned back, and while trying to explain, Bonnie cuts me off and says "what you want? What you saying" ? To begin with how about some professionalism? Since a customer who is phoning and not physically in the store, has no way of knowing when a department is understaffed or busy, A polite sales clerk would have taken your information and phoned you back when they available to properly assist you. Do you know what every woman's store in the mall needs? It needs a little sitting room with a big screen TV with sports on the tube. Throw in a courtesy bar with some beer and men will let you women kind shop for hours, hours I tell you. We'll even hold your purse for you. I had a problem in the gift department just before Christmas when an order did not come in and was canceled. The floor Manager Alexandra Keefe overheard the conversation with the sales associate and stepped in. She calmly handled the situation, found out the problem, and more than made up for the situation. I absolutely love this store. The employees are friendly and helpful. They offer FREE gift-wrapping which is rare these days. This is a traditional store with southern values they close on holidays so that there employees can spend time witb their families. Although I had a great experience in the shoe dept Saturday and purchased a $160.00 pair of boots. While shopping online Sunday for another pair of boots I found the same boots I just purchased for $120, $40 less ar Nordstrom. I just called and spoke to Natalie to see if they do a price match and she said yes but it has to be at the time of purchase! I didn't know what boots I was planning on purchasing at that time. So I asked her then I guess I should return the boots then and purchase them at Nordstrom to save that $40 and she said yes, you can make your return at anytime. Very disappointing!! read more
