I brought my Pacifica to the Valvoline shop on West Street. I was told they had difficulty getting the filler plug properly reseated in the oil pan and would have to use a different plug. They asked me to start the engine and said they'd need to watch if for a few minutes (after oil pressure built up) to be sure it didn't leak. They told me I was good to go. Two days later I had a slow oil leak (on floor in my garage). I brought the car to my normal service shop. They told me a bolt had been forced into the filler hole (showed it to me) and that the threads in the oil pan were cross threaded preventing use of a replacement oil plug or oversized plug. My car would have to have its oil pan replaced! They said this was the second client in just a few months that had nearly the same problem. Needless to say, I am done with the Valvoline shop. read more

I have gone to this business only due to convenience, but after having yet another bad experience, they won't fool me anymore. They always try to upsell you from just the standard oil change. You need an air filter, new wipers etc. 90% of the time wipers can be cleaned and will work fine. Filters can be blown off with compressed air most of the time. I just went in for an oil change and inspection. They rotated my tires without discussing with me first (second time they have done this) and I just had my tires swapped out from my winter tires a few weeks earlier. The next day the under carriage cover plate came off while I was driving. Morons forgot to put all the screws back in. I'm surprised they remembered to put the oil pan plug back in. My daughter brought her 200? Honda Pilot into this establishment for her yearly inspection as she had for the previous 3 years. There may have been minor issues in the past that got rectified and ultimately got the sticker on the car. This year Steven (the manager) decided that the rear window tint was too much (factory tinted that came on the vehicle when I bought it), and would not pass. I called to get a better understanding of the issue and spoke to Steven. He could not have been more standoffish, using one word answers and refusing to see that he had plainly made an error and move on. My family has always used Valvoline especially in the Portsmouth location and have had nothing but great professional experiences. Sadly can't say the same for the Keene location. read more

I've been going to this Valvoline for years. My third (and final) visit within the past two weeks will be this week. Last week, I brought my car in for an inspection. There was one car ahead of me, so I went for a walk and did some shopping nearby. When I returned about 45 minutes later, my car was parked off to the side. So I went into the building and after a few minutes was greeted by someone. I told him I was there to pay for my inspection. He brings me to the computer and pulls up all my info. He tells me the total cost and I pay him and go to leave. I noticed my old inspection sticker was still on the window, so I went back in to let them know that no one put a new sticker on the window. She the man goes "oh. Ok, let me see why". Pulls up my info again and said "oh, looks like you failed inspection" I ask "ok, what needs to be done" he said "let me ask". So he goes and asks the man who did my inspection and returns to say "all four tires are bad, you'll need all 4 tires before we can put a sticker on, when you do, you can just come back and we'll test the tread on the new tires and you should be all set. Real quick check". So I get back in my car and go to leave and see my fuse box cover was also left on the passengers side seat. Ok wtf, let me just put that back on for you. Lol Ok, That's fine. So I buy new tires and have them put on a few days later. I go back, and the guy at the inspection window says I'll have to come back another day when the man who inspected my car is working, because HE has to do it. Well why the hell didn't the guy tell me that in the first place? It was a total waste of time, from their lack of communication. So now I have to call and figure out the days and times he is working so I can *hopefully* get this mess finalized. I will never be returning after I jump through this last flaming hoop. read more

I attempted to get an inspection sticker twice in this one week.First time the man who does it has called out sick even though I called four hours before to make sure they are doing it.A man said yes,cmon in.Next time four days later I go in and I saw a car leave the inspection bay as I was pulling in.I was greeted outside by a female telling me that the attendant is out sick.Was it the same man who walked to his car to sit and smoke?So now it is January 10 2021 my LAST day to get a sticker and I am going and I feel I should have the sticker placed for free due to the irresponsible and shady nature of this business. read more

Biggest joke! Waited 45 minutes to get in. Wanted to leave but had cars behind me. Finally get in and it's like they have ADD here and can't stay focused to finish one task. Takes my air filter out and never shows me and slams my cover shut after. Take the new (I hope) oil filter and take a seal from the trash. Like I didn't see that! Ask to speak with the manager Eric and no care in the world of what I am saying. Says he will give me $10 off and I had a coupon for $15 off so used that. Never checked my fluids or tire pressure. He makes me wait LONGER to move 2 other cars!!! I have been coming here for years with both of my cars, both of my boys cars and Michael truck and this is how I get treated? Bull shit! Went here for an oil change last Fall (I am not in NH during the winter months). Car had issues afterwards and was told by another mechanic that they did not put cap on and too much oil put in. Now--as could not get done before I left--the dealer says I need a new oxygen sensor and stuff to clean out the fuel emissions because oil got all over. I will never come here again. It is costing me 700 dollars on a car that only has 12,000 miles on it. read more

Whatever you do don't go here for an inspection sticker! They failed my car last year with literally a pin sized exhaust leak! Now without my knowledge my wife took her car there and they said it has "a uni body crack and rust on right side" such crap. I used to get my oil changed here frequently but after my experience with the "inspector" I'm not sure I can bring myself to spend money here again. First thing he jumps in my car, smashes the horn, and then takes it for a several minute drive. I don't know if this is standard procedure for valvoline but it was done in a jarring and unprofessional manner. I sat in the waiting room wondering if he was even coming back. Upon returning he tells me that he will be unable to pass my car for inspection because the windshield washer fluid doesn't work, with a seemly inappropriate grin. I tell him I used the windshield washer fluid that morning and begin advancing toward the inspection bay to test it myself. He back tracks and tells me maybe it's just empty. I informed him that I received an oil change here 2 days ago where they told me that they topped up the fluids so I hope that is not the case. He sheepishly goes back to the car alone and comes back about 20 to 25 minutes later and tells me that he can't pass it due to cracked fog light covers and he will not help me remove them, (they are not required to pass) and he wont even give me a clear inspection sticker until I figure it out myself. He recommends that I continue to drive on an out of date inspection until I can get an appointment with an auto body shop (he doesn't recommend one.) He was rude and condescending through the entire inspection and seemed as though he was delighting in finding small things to try to fail the car on (the windshield washer fluid worked fine when I got the car back??) He dropped my keys into my hand and his demeanor and explanations for my cars failure was so insulting and disorienting that I got back into my car with tears in my eyes, not realizing I hadn't already paid when I had previously tried to have it inspected and he aggressively approached me and YELLED "HEY! YOU STILL HAVE TO PAY ME!" All said and done I was at Valvoline intermittently being insulted by this man for over an hour and paid him for the privilege, just to drive off in my car uninspected for a crack in my fog light. I've spoken to several people about this location and not one person had anything nice to say about this man. They all tell similar tales of condescension and abuse of judgement. He was quite proud in telling me he was the only inspector who worked there and how it would be difficult for me to get it reinspected, while Valvoline advertises inspections 7 days a week? I think I will pay another location for a different inspection just to avoid seeing this individual ever again. I am disappointed that Valvoline continues to allow their reputation to be tarnished by such a rude and ill equipped individual considering this is clearly not an isolated incident. I've always had such good experiences with getting my oil changed by capable and friendly individuals, even though they always try to up sell me and don't offer to blow out my engine air filter like other locations. Their speed and friendliness always made up for it. I can't see myself visiting another Valvoline location unless this is remedied. If they care about their customers they would address the myriad of complaints in this Yelp section alone, let alone all the other incidents not detailed here. read more

They do a good job, as in, change the oil and put in a new filter. However, the 15 min oil change sign is a joke. There were a lot of people working but there was also a lot of yakking. If you can drop your car off and come back an hour later (there is a starbucks within walking distance) then you will be ok. read more

I so wish I had come to Yelp before I went to this Valvoline location. Long story short, they flunked our auto inspection on a piece of equipment that was strictly cosmetic and then refused to give us a refund for the inspection fee - even after we had called the state of NH DMV and they said it should be fine. I am a big believer in calmly visiting with the manager but this did NOT work here. He made it clear that he was backing up his buddy and would be laughing with all the other guys as I walked away. We called several other local auto places who each said something like, "Oh yeah, they're known for stuff like that..." I wish we had known that. Lesson learned - when you need to have a good condition, older, car pass inspection, be patient and get an appointment with a reputable auto shop. read more

horrible, my "instant oil change" turned into a 3-hour shit-show when the sausage-fingered technician broke off my dipstick and couldn't get it back out. I had to return on a different day to have it removed and replaced. DO NOT RECOMMEND: So, we brought our rather old off road (but still road worthy) Jeep to them. They flunked it. Okay, what they pointed at needed fixing. We were fine with that, and off to our specialized mechanic it went. But now after it's been at the mechanic's place they point to 3 or 4 more additional things? One of which includes the classic "wheel bearing scam". REALLY? Also? They flunked it for something they passed the first two times thru. We've put less than 20 miles on it during this whole time. Uhm. Nope, don't believe you. I especially don't believe you because the Jeep had come straight from our mechanic to that store location. DO NOT USE VALVOLINE INSTANT OIL CHANGE...EVER! I am writing this review after a conversation with Ted. We have been informed that Valvoline will not be covering the repairs or anything for that matter for causing our 1993 Honda Accords engine to seize. We brought the car in for a simple oil change and though the staff at the time was very polite they forgot to remove the gasket from the oil filter fitting after removing the filter. This is known as double gasket. It causes the oil to leak in great amounts out of the car. It is a Honda and it ran for some time before suddenly the car just stopped. We have video footage of the leak and two other mechanics telling us that Valvoline basically owes us a new motor. They (Valvoline) refuse to do anything for us. We asked that they at least pay for the repairs (almost $1000.0 discounted because the mechanic is kind) and they refuse. We told Ted that we would be speaking to someone else about this issue and he responded " Sorry, I am the only person you can talk to about this and we are not covering it." The car is no longer reliable. This is a car that had excellent maintenance and no oil leaks before Ted and his crew got their hands on it. It starts sometimes and runs poorly when it does. Thanks Ted, we loved that car and we would have had it for a few more years if you had not ruined it. Ted, we will be seeking expert advice in regard to this matter. Also, we will find someone else to speak with, starting with the thousands of people who use Yelp...We do not take kindly to having our car destroyed. Ted...you had one job...
