After reading all the reviews, I was really looking forward to dining here. I went mid-afternoon to avoid a crowd. I ordered the Dutch fries and Beach at Scheveningen . I guess I didn't know what to expect but I did expect the Beach order to be at least warm but it was cold and I just didn't really like it at all. They asked me if I wanted the fries first and I said yes. Then they delivered both at the same time. I don't know if all the pannenkoeken are served cold. What a waste of $$$$. read more

Found this place by pure change and thankfully we stopped in to have something eat. The timing wasn't perfect around noon but the service was fast with the short staff and high number of visitors. Ordered the Dutch Fries. The sauce was amazing with the perfect amount of sauce but if your are not much into eating onions than do not order these fries. They must have cut into small pieces a quarter of the onion. The White Tower was full of flavor with chicken, pesto, and melted cheese. It must have been ten inches in diameter and served the two of us easily. Our server, Elias, was great. He sat us and others, took our order, multi tasked, and we were out in 45 minutes. Visiting relatives in town and heard good things about this restaurant. Stopped in for dinner on a Thursday night, not very crowded, good spacing between tables, nice use of screens and displays to provide a feeling of intimacy. Great menu, lots of choices. Also had some good local craft beer ($5). I code to go with the Van Gogh Platter, delicious! Lots of smoked sausage, pasta, white asparagus, cheese and sauce! My wife ordered the Chicken Witlof, very tender chicken and ham in a cheese topped dish. Food was great, service good and friendly. Definitely going back. The service was great and very timely. Within my first 20 minutes of sitting down I had my drinks and food. The food was amazing. Although I did get the tofu scramble I can only imagine what everything else taste like. But from eating the tofu scramble it was just right. I'm not too big on lemon curry but it was the perfect amount. Not too much and not too less but jussssst right. Oh and the mimosa was on point. They also have a kombucha bar that I didn't try this time but it gives me something to look forward to for my next visit. My waitress was great. She was very helpful and checked on me multiple times. Had lunch...fish and chips. Was HORRIBLE. The fries tasted burnt. They were cooked in OLD oil. Dark brown. Small portion. The fish was fish NUGGETS. They tasted burnt too. Their apple PIE dessert was NASTY. It wasn't tart. Tasted bland, like over ripe apples, zero flavor. Can not believe I spent $70 there for two. I WILL NEVER GO BACK. Can I get this six stars? Wow, what a meal. I'm no vegan, but if I were, I'd be here about once a week at least (also if I lived in Springfield). But, let me tell you about my omnivore experience all the same. My co-worker and I split the cheese dip for our appetizer. It was probably close to a fondue, but the consistency was a bit looser (at first), the flavors a bit different, but overall an equally savory and delightful experience. The veggies were only carrots and celery, but both were really fresh and full of flavor. The bread crisps were great for carrying just the right amount of ooey-gooey-cheesy dip to ones porthole. The dip had a great herbal presence, as well. The composition was splendid, and we both really dug that dip. I had the Sunflower creation (pancake) for my entree. This is a full sized pancake, Dutch style, with crispy potatoes, diced ham, scrambled eggs, cheese, and a sunflower pesto. Yes... I said... a sunflower pesto. This was clearly the star of the dish (at first), tasting both of pesto and something not quite pesto. The sunflowers were not entirely noticeable, but they changed the flavor profile enough so that you weren't ingesting the same tired pesto from so many pasta dishes in the past. I said it was the start at first, though, because our server brought me a side of stroop, which is essentially syrup made from reduced apple juice (with spices, of course). It was... sublime. That's about the best word I can come up for to describe it. Sweet, yes, but more like sorghum than syrup. Certainly not cloyingly sweet. But, complex as well, with herbal/floral notes, a noticeably acidic fruit tang, and a very mellow finish. I realize I sound like I'm describing scotch and not stroop, but please believe me, it really is quite lovely. The entire dish was fantastic, from presentation to digestion. My co-worker's dish was equally good, though in a very different direction. He had the shrimp nasi goreng. I don't pretend to be from any country or region where that's a common dish, but I will say the flavor of shrimp inoculated every single bite of rice and veggie in the dish. There were a ton of shrimp and the flavor was fantastic overall. Overall, this was a great find, and thank you Yelpers for all of the tips, reviews, and photos that eventually led me here. The service was perfect, the drink (Starry Night) was both creative and delicious, the food was out of this world good, and the decor was fun and inviting. I'm a huge fan, and I'll easily be back the next time I'm in town! read more

Got to try Springfield's taste of Dutch this morning. Went in for Breakfast on a beautiful morning. As soon as you walk in you realize it's not your average decor. I was very impressed with the layout and design. We ordered and it was a bit of a wait which was surprising. The food was well presented. My wife enjoyed the Morning in den Haag. The skillet chips were great. I went with the Farm near Auvers (goat cheese, Apple, honey, and thyme. It was pretty good as well. The goat cheese blended well with the other flavors. Over all it was a fun experience. The only down side was pricing. We felt it was definitely a premium for my dish which is their specialty item. Id like to visit again for lunch or dinner. read more

What an amazing find on Historic C Street in downtown Springfield. Several vegan options that are scrumptious. Lemon blueberry tart was not to sweet and had a great texture. The savory pancake (can't remember the real name on the menu) was an interesting twist. Their pancakes are like a crepe, 10 inches in size. So many flavors going on. The todu scramble was spot on. I normally don't like curry bit the lemon curry sauce was amazing. The skillet chips were cooked perfectly. I had a kombosa which is kombucha and orange juice. Came here with my wife to have lunch for our anniversary. The building, and atmosphere, is fun/interesting. The girl that was our server was new, but very pleasant and helpful. The wife ordered the shrimp Nasi Goreng. It was a very attractive dish visually. Not much personality flavor wise. We shared an order of Beef Kapsalon. VERY good. Crisp fries, large pieces of beef that were flavorful, and the pickled veggie topping had a slight sweetness. I ordered Opa's Meat Scramble and it was a trainwreck from the start. Mind you that it took almost an hour to get our food. I received someone else's pancake. That got sent back, and when I received my actual order it was just ham and eggs. They'd forgotten the bacon, sausage, and cheese. The potato crisps were burnt to the point of being inedible. Very disappointing. We'll give them another shot. The Cafe Cusco team opens yet another gem. This Dutch themed cousin is a nice change to the variety here in town. They offer lots of European style dishes with even a dash of Asian. I don't remember the dish I got because well the majority of them I could barley pronounce the name anyway. Their pancakes are very thin like crapes, and fill a good size plate; my dish was a pancake with onion, a type of potato salad, and tomato. It was tasty, yet very reminiscent of Cafe Cusco... My wife had a yellow curry which she felt leaned a little heavy on the pineapple; I on the other hand liked it a lot! There are still a few other things we want to try like the cheese plate, so we will be back. What's really nice is you don't need to read every detail on the menu to make sure if it's vegetarian, vegan, or gluten free; they have put marks beside all those dishes for you. read more

After awkwardly standing in the entry for about 5-10 minutes waiting to be seated, and having 3 servers look our way and then walk away again, we were finally seated. I ordered the Brexit and the Starry Night pancake. The Brexit was good, I didn't think too much of a pancake with ice cream and blueberries though. My wife ordered the Wentelteefjes(french toast?). She said that its worth the 20 mile drive to have again. My son had th Opa scramble, and being a teenager, his response when asked his opinion about them was simply "Its good". Fantastic food. During our routine "car picnic", we decided to try it out. Van Gough's routinely support local fundraisers with their food and I wanted to return the favor and try them out. Our diverse palette really enjoyed the lunch dishes. We had the shrimp nasi goreng and the vegan kapsalon, we noticed these fresh ingredients made us full and more of a healthy full. Our 5 year old daughter had the "smothered canal worst" and enjoyed it. The French fries were freshly cooked and didn't feel like a wet oily mess. We will be back for another car picnic. I can't even believe the experience we've had here. I took my mother to this place and we were told not to talk about politics because the waitress was apparently extremely liberal. She made up a lie about someone hearing us in the restaurant. When I went to apologize to the only people there, they were confused and said there's no way they could even hear us that far away and that the waitress was lying. They lost both customers and it was one of the only times in my life that I left a penny as a tip. She was extremely rude and vocally abrasive. This was a while ago, but I've been wanting to review it. I hope the owners have fired her. The place deserves better. No waitor should listen in on your conversation and be upset if they disagree with it. It definitely ruined our meal so I could not tell you about the food. I will echo what many others have said. The place and atmosphere is adorable! Very clean, chic, and smartly decorated. I went on a Tuesday evening and it was not crowded, but not empty. Our waiter was courteous and gave us plenty of time with the rather large menu (especially since we were not overly familiar with Norwegian fare!) The soup was delicious, and salad was nice with a tasty dressing. The chicken salad was nicely done, although difficult to eat on the dense bread. The Starry Night pancake was ok-- We didn't care for the ginger lemon glaze-it was too overpowering. The prices are reasonable and we will be back to try other offerings as there are many options for vegetarians and those with gluten free needs. read more
