Van Kirk is a 5-star company hands down and I'll break down why. In short, they produced the product they said they would and they did it with-in the time frame they gave us. They delivered. We started the process of putting in our pool in November, researched several companies and ended up deciding to go with Van Kirk. Saving money would've been the reason to go with other companies but IMO Van Kirk is completely worth the money you're spending. You're paying for their experience, their expertise, their reputation, and to put your own mind at ease. The experience started with their design/sales consultant. Ours was Manuel. He was forthcoming and honest. He communicated well. He gave you an initial design of the pool. Once you signed the necessary papers you can meet several times to work out the perfect designs for your pool. Manuel was there for us from the design process all the way through the end. If we sent him an e-mail/call, we got a prompt response (even when he was on vacation). Can't really ask for more than a knowledgeable and dedicated employee. There are a lot of people that need to be thanks for the process. From the secretary's to the construction scheduler's. They're nameless and faceless but they make the company a well oiled machine. I mostly dealt with Manuel and my project manager. But there were times where I would have to work with someone in the company. They were all excellent and if they didn't know something they would get you to someone who could answer the question. Once you finished with the design process, you will make scheduled payments and go through the permit process. It can be annoying to deal with a city permitting department and an HOA. Just remember that while Van Kirk works closely with these departments they can not force them to work harder/faster. Once the approval comes through Van Kirk will begin work on your pool and you will be assigned a project manager. Ours was Golan. You will see and talk to your project manager the most of anyone in Van Kirk. I also can not say enough nice things about Golan. He was really easy to work with. He's respectful, responsible, and prompt. He wouldn't make promises he couldn't keep. And he steered the ship very well. I'm not the only one I know that has had the pleasure of working with Golan, his reputation is perfect. He oversees the entire work which has several different teams (all specialist) work on different parts of your pool. He also oversees the inspections. There are a bunch during the process. You don't need to be there for them but they're vital to be able to move on to different parts of the pool project. If you have a problem with Golan, trust me, you're the problem. It's Golan's responsibility to make sure the pool turns out perfectly and he did. If you need me to find something I didn't love with the process it had nothing to do with Van Kirk, but the companies they referred me to. And they didn't do a bad job, but they just weren't as good as Van Kirk. I'd give those companies a B. Their work was great but their communication was lacking. But if you understand the nature of today's business's it's reasonable. One is they can't find enough good help and two it's the most demanding time in the history of construction. For the money I paid I had to work a little harder than I liked to get them to response to my calls/e-mails but overall the work rate was excellent, hence the "B" read more

I think you should run not walk if anyone recommends Van Kirk & Sons pools and spa - it is my opinion and my photos do not lie, they are the WORST, extremely expensive and DO NOT AND HAVE NOT HONORED any workmanship and contractual warranties! My brand new pool has never worked properly, has leaked from the start of being filled with water, expensive water features are faulty, and the mechanicals do not work as intended! WORSE POOL COMPANY DO NOT WORK WITH THEM!!!!! READ THIS REVIEW!! I hired Van kirk to do my pool, They gave me a price of $175,000 which was extremely high and higher then the competitors but they had a convincing marketing and sales people so they somehow convinced me to pay it thinking to my self "better to pay more then go with someone cheaper and then have issue" WHICH TURNS OUT TO BE THE WORSE DECISION I MADE! After waiting 7-8 months for permits (which is reasonable but long) we finally started the Excavation and then I get a text from the project manager that the soil is harder then they thought and they will need to charge me $5500 PER DAY in order to be able to finish the excavation (PLEASE SEE THE PICTURE ATTACHED I SHARED THE SCREENSHOT OF IT) after fighting with them for hours over the phone and them threating me to stop the work after waiting 8 months to start (Just to think of the nightmare to change a company and wait another 8 months) they finally agreed to not charge me extra (just show you how they manage to scam some people who do agree to pay this). NOW THE WORSE PART IS - In their contracts in the payment schedule they wrote that the last payment will be before the job is even completed so they get paid before finishing the job and passing final inspection and then if there are issues with the job which I have since DAY ONE, They can take their time and drag you for months (in my case 10 months after) and still not fix them while they got their full payment!! I paid $175k for a pool and spa that since day one gave me issues, my spa supposed to be infinity spa but the water level dont hold (see picture) and it is not working and not heating and after sending many technicians who all said "we know what needs to be done to fix it but the company dont want to pay for it". I am done waiting for them to fix their poor job and I will be hiring a company and pay again out of pocket to fix the issues after paying $175k for this pool because if I will relay on them it will never be fixed, For 10 months I couldn't enjoy my spa and pool and I am done with this company and will put a complaint on their license in the DBPR and BBB. We had Van Kirk come out to give us an estimate on our pool remodel. They told us they do this, so we were confident after their beautiful photos we'd be in good hands. We explained to the saleswoman what we wanted and desired in our backyard with the renovation of our pool. Quickly we received a whole new pool quote via email. The email said we would get a remodel quote, which never happened. It has been a month since the saleswoman came out. Sent the email and zero follow up. Maybe this company has gone downhill? I hired Van Kirk for a pool remodel that cost me around $60,000, expecting a high-end result given their reputation. Unfortunately, the experience was frustrating from the start. The color they sprayed on the finish came out poorly, nothing like what was promised or shown. In an attempt to fix it, they made me drain the pool four separate times for acid washes--each time assuring me it would improve. Not only did this waste time, water, and money, but the end result still looked terrible. Second time/repeat customer and extremely happy with our new pool construction that was completed in February 2023. Jim Palmer our salesman was great to deal with. Listened to our needs and patient as we contracted for the pool while our new house was being built, which builder caused delay in pool dig initiation. Love the pool design and water features. Adrian A. our construction manager did his best to answer our questions during the process. Minor issues along the pool construction process that were always dealt with appropriately and resolved with no issues. The Vankirk crew were very professional and the guys that laid the travertine deck, Jesus and team did a beautiful job. (Most due to the PBC building dept). When I had questions, Ray T and Luisa S. Two years after spending $80,000 on a pool, the pavers are sinking around the skimmer and waterside retaining wall. Van Kirk & Sons Pools did not take responsibility for the sinking retaining wall because: 1.- The one-year guarantee expired. It has been less than two years since they finished the project. 2.- They claim the wall was damaged before I installed fake Turf, which is false since the wall was damaged before I installed fake Turf was installed. I scheduled a service for my pool and both times I was given a date of when to expect them. Both times they arrived on a different date and with no notice. The second time at 7am. I emailed Thiago the service manager multiple times asking for a call back and did not hear back. I then tried to contact Rob Van Kirk to make him aware and to discuss an issue I am continuing to have with my pool and he also has not called back. I called last week on Tuesday and left my fourth message with a receptionist. I shared with her that it was my fourth call and she apologized and said she would let him know. About 20 minutes later I got a call that she needed my address because he likes to review the file before he calls. As of today I have not received a call. I'm disappointed that they do not seem to care about returning calls or helping with issues with a pool that they installed. The one person who has always replied to emails or calls is Sandy. I appreciate that she has been helpful even though she is not in the service department. I wish they had more employees like Sandy. read more

This company has horrible quality control, horrible follow up and don't care what they damage in the process of their construction. They completed a Six figure pool for me a little under a year ago It started with 2 broken sewer lines one of which had flags on it The patio needs work. We have 2 low spots that the water just puddles. The patio is half grouted and then just not grouted. It wreaks of poor workmanship. I have been trying to get someone out to fix it fir 6 months. So far there have been 4 leaks We requested several times to have Mr VanKirk meet with us. Nothing...... we have emailed and called. Absolutely horrible way to run a company. The worst experience I've had in 20 years in this country with a pool contractor from draining the spat not aligned to leak in less than a year and air through the pool return system, over 20 visits to my house to try to fix the problem and this month it's been a year and still the problem is still there, Not to mention that I had to tear out all the slabs of the pool because the work was a disaster, I had to go personally to the office to talk to the owner since it is impossible for him to return the calls or worry about returning them Every customer who enters their Facebook page and leaves a negative review based on their experience and the work they did gets blocked immediately, just like what happened to me. This process continues, and I will update my report. I believe I have been very patient all year, giving you the opportunity to fix your mistakes, but I have not had any luck. As it clearly shows on my Yelp account, I do not write many reviews, however I felt compelled to make my voice heard on this one. Well, on April 16th I took time off work to meet with Brian Van Kirk, to remodel my entire swimming pool, patio and backyard. Brian texted me that he would be 15 minutes late, (no big deal), although I previously asked, please be on time since I live in Boca and work in Fort Lauderdale. Brian, took about half hour to explain what the project would look like once done, and told us that he took lots of pride on what he does since it is his family business. Brian didn't give us a quote that day, but he gave us an idea about the cost of project, of course I tried to negotiate a little, but we were ready to pull the trigger once we received the quotes in writing. Brian told us that he would take 1 hour of is time that day to create a 3D rendering, a quote, and send that to us the next day, well that quote and rendering never made it to my inbox and today is May 1st, what is worse really, is that I sent Brian quite few text messages, and he didn't have the decency to reply to me with an explanation. Maybe they don't need money, maybe, they are too busy, maybe they pick and choose who they want to work with, but in any case, it is very rude and unprofessional to go silent to a potential client and specially from an owner, completely unacceptable! 1+ Year of Living Nightmare!!! For your sanity please *DO NOT* Hire Van Kirk & Son! I signed a contract with Van Kirk & Son over a year ago for a small backyard remodel which cost 6 figures. Van Kirk & Son collected over 85% of the money even before 10% of the work was completed. They tried to collect *ALL* the money and the project is not completed...my backyard currently looks like I am going through a foreclosure. I requested to speak with an owner several times without any luck. Before Christmas last year I sent and email stating that I would seek legal council regarding the issues I was having with them. The owner who replied was very unprofessional. The sales person *Daniel Quong* (DAN) is just a used car sales person with a lot of promises, who dropped just after the sale. The project Manager *Carl Salley* does nothing, he is usually lost. Everyone who has worked on my project is a third party independent contractor and they usually show up not knowing what to do, because no one truly manages the project. After my project is completed I will update in details the horrible journey I have had. If you are brave enough to hire this company, have an attorney review your contract before signing, ESPECIALLY if you are doing additional features and NOT just a pool. Van Kirk & Son will provide you with a proposal itemizing all the work that will be done with the cost per item. However, the actual contract will have ONE price clumped together. From my experience, I had several additional feature in addition to the pool remodel. The remodeling of the pool was only about 25% of the total cost of the project. However, on the contract they *tied* all payments to the actual POOL and nothing else. I honestly did not know that they were going to do the pool first which allowed them to access to collect all the money; then I would have to be at their mercy with completing the rest of the projects. As you can see the payment schedule below is all tied to the pool: Deposit: 20% Pool Demo: 40% Coping and waterline tile for the pool: 35% Final Day Before Plaster of the pool 15% My small project cost over a hundred thousand dollars. However, because of how the contract was written, (every payment having to do with the pool) they abused the situation, they collected the deposit, then demoed the pool, and added coping around the pool. Though there were several times on the contract was not touched. The way the contract was written gave them access to the majority of the money with very little work done. In my case 85% collected while 95% of the project was NOT yet touched. Below are things that was still outstanding at the time that over 85% of the money was collected. Things outstanding when 85% of the money was collected: . Travertine (pool deck) . Raised wall with water feature and fire bowls. . outdoor kitchen with appliances . pergola over kitchen and over the fire bowls . slotted wall . pool heater . pool resurface . plumbing . electrical . ect To be fair, the HOA took some time to sign the papers for the pergola over the kitchen. However, Van Kirk & Son were hired in April of 2021 and they did NOT put in the permit for the pergola with the city until September of 2021. If they had did so early, we would have had more time to go back and forth getting it approved with the city and the HOA. The only permit hold up was the pergola over the kitchen, but Van Kirk & Son insisted on collecting the remaining 15% to continue the project. Base on the break down of the proposal, they have collected all the funds for all the items plus a few thousand dollars of the pergola, but refuse to do the rest of the job if they don't get more money. The project was to be completed last year October (2021). Today is July 14th, 2022 and its still NOT done and the pool is still empty. When it rains the water that settles in the pool breeds mosquitos. I have had a mosquito infestation in my back yard. I am living in a nightmare that won't seem to end. BEWARE!!! Do yourself a favor and call one of the numerous other Pool companies. This company is Unprofessional, Unresponsive, and there's too many other professional companies out there to waste time with these people. For a company that requires potential new customers to spend at least 40k to 50k to install a new pool ( this is what is was told by VK staff when i called ) you would think they would at the very least make sure they give you an estimate or return an email. Terrible company. Techs are good but leadership is very poor. I noted in a Google review that the company was very poor with their online scheduling. I had made three attempts to schedule service online and finally had to send emails to the Van Kirk brothers (the owners) to get service scheduled. When one of the brothers (I think it was Robert Van Kirk) saw that I had written a poor review, they cancelled the service call. They want to reshoot over the top(loosing life of the pool) I made them chip it and respray. Pool showing signs of rust through (bad shell) no over flow, too few jets too small pump etc. You want to pay a premium to get a pool done on the cheap, these are your guys. FYI most of the work they do is subbed out to other contractors any way, they pretty much only do the Project MGMT (hahaah 1.5 years start to finsih on my pool) and the pavers (worst job with bare minimum compaction and sand.) Van Kirk had built my pool about 13 years ago and after a little miscommunication with the service personnel, I met with Mr Bobby Van Kirk and intern Ms Aydee Gutierrez to discuss the work. I received a fair price and excellent delivery of the work. The workers showed up when they said they would and finished the work diligently. Ms Gutierrez worked closely with my wife and I to make sure all the details discussed took place. My wife & I are extremely satisfied with the results and feel we have a new pool. Van Kirk broke ground for a spa last March. It was the worst experience I've had with contractors. There is little to no communication between me and the office. Several mistakes were made including where the path went and how the screen enclosure was reinstalled. There are Five other homes in my community that had pools done by them. I was told by the salesman RFAR the screen would be lifted above the new travertine deck. instead they didn't lift it up. The travertine was thicker than the old pavers. When they installed the screen it was lower than the travertine, creating and trough. In order to correct it they charged me an additional $5,000.00. It took them 11 months to complete and it is still not correct. First week the pump sprang a leak and the pool was leaking. That took a month to rectify. When I turn the jets on, there is so much force that I have geysers that shoot out onto the deck. As usual, they claim thats how it works. My old spa did not have this as an issue. I need to bring in a new company as I do not want them on my property again. They are the biggest crooks around. read more

Our experience with this company has been awful. It has been nothing but empty promises and missed deadlines. We started this process in August of 2019, it is now April of 2020. Not only did they lie to us, but they did their job incorrectly, and submitted plans to the city with glaring mistakes. Now the entire project is put on hold (by them). We had a very old pool that we lived with for many years. After almost a year of research and review we decided to sign a contract with Van Kirk Pools to demo the old and build a completely new pool. The overall experience was top notch. Our designed Chuck Fiore was great to work with. Took feedback well and tailored his excellent designs to our needs. We felt well taken care of by Bobby Van Kirk himself who was always available if we had a need. Our construction manager Golan Sharif was exacting in his planning and execution. A phone call to VanKirk in summer 2018 began the journey of building a new pool. The young lady Ashley was professional and efficient while providing detailed information on the process. Her phone demeanor and openess prompted me to choose VK over 4 pool companies. After a follow-up email from Ashley, I was scheduled to meet with Brian to discuss my family vision, desires and design. Brian, always with a big smile, put a great amount of time, detail and discussion into the design creating a masterpiece. We are so excited about the design of our pool! Once the design was finalized and building inspections were approved, we began the construction. Golan supervised the enitire day to day constrcution process. He communicted almost daily, either visiting the property, a phone call or text! The absolute best customer service ever but more importantly a genuine person!!! He is trustworthy and the "calm" in every situation. I would highly recommend them to anyone and of course Bob who makes his rounds to ensure every aspect is according to plan. Ahhh...South Florida pool contractors - love 'em or hate 'em. We selected VK because we thought they were big enough to handle a large, complex pool and believed they cared about their reputation in the community and would stand behind their work. Much to our surprise and disappointment, that wasn't the case. Like with any construction project there are always issues, some larger than others. Some you suck up as the homeowner because they just aren't worth the headache (pick your battles), while others you expect the company to man up and take care of, no questions asked. Unfortunately, in our opinion, VanKirk doesn't accept responsibility for errors or problems - period. In fact, in our experience, they (at least those assigned to our project) get down right defensive when concerns are brought forth. Their mistakes are too many to list or bore you with here but trust that from design phase to install it was nothing short of painful. The designer was clueless (seemed like his first ever pool) to the point we asked for his removal from the project. We thought things would get better but the person stepping in only made matters worse. He was defensive when issues were brought forth and pushed back at every turn. We were dumbfounded by his behavior and reactions, even a little concerned. Nothing we said or did should have elicited such a reaction; it was over the top. Never have we ever been talked to or treated so unprofessionally by a contractor, and we have had our share over the years. We wish we had selected a smaller, more professional pool company to build our dream pool because this project was a nightmare. read more
