I had the banana pudding ice cream and it was SO good! Creamy, delicious, and the perfect sweet treat while exploring Denver. Kid 1 got the peanut butter honey comb and kid 2 got the black cherry chip . We enjoyed it outside with all the lights and Colorado flags around us, which made the whole experience even better. I had heard about Van Leeuwen Ice Cream when I was in New York City but didn't get a chance to try it until visiting the Larimer Square location. I ordered the matcha strawberry, and the ice cream itself was really good creamy with a nicely balanced bitter matcha flavor, and the strawberry came through well. Definitely a tasty treat. Unfortunately, the customer service didn't match the quality of the ice cream. The employee helping me seemed like she was having a rough day and came across as rude. When I asked for a cone, she rolled her eyes and threw the cup down, which made me feel unwelcome. What stood out even more was the difference in how customers were treated. The group after me was offered samples and greeted more warmly, while I wasn't offered any and was simply asked, "what do you want?" The contrast in service made the experience feel uncomfortable. Needed a sweet treat after dinner and stopped into Van Leeuwen's. I've had the ice cream before in another city, but really enjoyed visiting this Denver location!! We were created very kindly by the person behind the counter. He was very patient with us and let us try multiple samples to make sure we were going to enjoy the flavors. The lobby was very clean and not sticky, like some ice cream places can be. Despite being the only apparent one on the clock, the employee behind the counter had things running smoothly and made friendly conversation with us. The strip that the building is in was decorated beautifully for the holidays! I got a two scoop of the Sour Cherry and the Big Face Coffee affogato. It smelled so good like waffles when you walk in. My boyfriend got the hot fudge sundae with vanilla ice cream and whipped cream and sprinkles and my friend got the pistachio ice cream sundae. The crunchy honey toffee bites and the honey ice cream are unlike anything I've had at another ice cream place. I love that I can consistently find this flavor at different locations, including in other states. As far as atmosphere, there is nothing too special. It's a place where you would get your ice cream to go and then finish it. Perhaps strolling outside. When I was there, it felt a little bit noisy and crowded. Walking back to the convention center area and came across this gem, it's on a street that is blocked off from traffic which made it lovely for walking, and the strings of lights were charming. Really amazing flavors and so tasty! I had honeycomb and black cherry chip. My only sadness is that the small sundae would only allow for one flavor, so I had to forgo the beauty of hot fudge to try more ice cream flavors. My companion must have tried 6 or 7 flavors before she decided on one, but I'll be honest I don't remember what it was. She looked happy though. We decided to walk down while waiting for a concert to start. I've had Van Leeuwen before but only in pints from the grocery store so I was curious if the flavor or texture is any different from the store bought ones. They're not which is a good thing. I had the honeycomb and it's pretty tasty from the VL location and from the grocery store. So if I ever get a craving, I'll just get myself one from there instead of making the drive to downtown. I'm on a mission this summer: to sample flavors from all of Denver's ice cream shops! Today I visited Van Leeuwen Ice Cream on Larimer Square near 15th Street. I couldn't resist their "Sweet Corn with Blueberry Jam" flavor. It is delicious (although the 'sweet corn' flavor is not very evident), and it has a solid consistency (no mistaking this for gelato). Van Leeuwen (pronounced "van LOO-in") has the three staples (chocolate, vanilla, strawberry) plus two dozen flavors that are quite unusual. Offerings include Honeycomb, Earl Grey Tea, Marionberry Cheesecake, and Praline Butter Cake. The multi-colored interior is cheery and has seating for four people; there are tables for eight more outside. It's worth another visit, and I will be back. read more

It was nice being able to have it right there in the shoppe, and being able to sample so many flavors. I will note that the store only gets a limited amount of the unique flavors in the large stubs, so chances are you won't be able to sample those. With that being said, they hav so many other great flavors available. They also offer a couple vegan flavors. The staff was super friendly. I will say that the flavors were great but the fact that they don't accept cash is annoying. If you want to pay cash, you have to do some convoluted reverse gift card thing. This is a cool little ice cream shop on Larimer St.. The perfect place to stop in for a sweet treat and be on your way. They have a nice variety of flavors and the counter staff was pretty friendly. Finally tried this hot spot in Denver! I've walked by so many times but often had just had dinner etc. and I always say.. next time! So it was finally here and Ryan and I split this giant waffle cone (which actually tasted so good sweet with a perfect crunch) I've gotten waffle cones some places before that are chewy and stale and this was just the perfect texture! The ice cream was phenomenal- ryan loves more of a fruit vibe so we went with sour cherry that is mixed with a vanilla it was like a sorbet vibe and the other scoop with a berry cheesecake kind. It was so good Ryan loved the cherry and I loved the cheese cake it was the perfect mix! And the location is so fun to just walk around Larimer square especially on a beautiful summer evening!
