You can't visit Amsterdam without stopping at Van Stapele. It's centrally located on Rokin and easy to find--just look for the line! Don't let the queue intimidate you; it moves incredibly fast. I only waited about 10 minutes. They do one thing, and they do it perfectly: a dark chocolate cookie with a gooey white chocolate core. The texture is the gold standard--soft and chewy, yet it still has enough "snap" to give you those perfect crumbs. Since they bake them around the clock, you get them warm, which is the absolute best way to eat them. At €3 per cookie, it's a bit of a splurge, but 100% worth it. If you want a box, it's 6 for €15. Note that there's usually a limit per person (it seems to change daily based on demand), so get there early if you're buying for a group!
Totally worth it! The cookie here is super decadent. I love that ooey gooey flavor and it was just amazing overall! It either comes in a box or their signatures blue tin which I believe is extra. The line may look long but it goes by fast. The staff here are very friendly and patient. Definitely worth coming back for!
I had to return here on my second trip to Amsterdam because it was so good the first time. When I knew I was coming back I'd been dreaming of this cookie. I finally made this my last stop on my trip because I wanted to take a 6 pack home with me. For 18 euros, I got one 6 pack in a paper box as well as one single cookie. The wait was out the door when I got there, but went super quickly. I was in and out within 5-7 minutes. Can't wait to come back again!
Stroopwafels are a must when in Amsterdam. I'm gonna be honest, you can get them anywhere and they're great, fresh or not. The ones here are lovely and iconic and the toppings are so much fun. A worth while place to stop in but don't feel like you've missed out if you simply buy a pack at the grocery store.
I visited on the hottest day of the week, so there was no line! Once you walk inside the store, the smell of buttery goodness hits you! The interior of the store is crafted with beautiful wood. All the workers also wear a baker's uniform. I was greeted with a warm smile from the worker. You can also buy only 13 cookies per person. I bought a box of cookies to take home and some cookies to eat while in Amsterdam. The cookies were nicely and delicately packaged in a tin box. I felt like I was watching a luxury purse get packaged! When I came back home to America, the cookies were still in tact. I could tell that this double chocolate cookie was going to taste delicious, based off the smell. It radiated buttery goodness. One bite of the cookie transfered you to the depths of dark chocolate richness. Once you got halfway, the white chocolate melted in your mouth. I could only eat half of the cookie since it was so rich. I definitely recommend visiting this scrumptious cookie shop in Amsterdam!
Apparently, this is the must-try cookie shop in Amsterdam, so of course we had to check it out. We even skipped dessert at Bistro de la Mer just so we could try these famous cookies! When we arrived, the line was super long--but it moved really fast. It was actually fun watching the cookie makers through the window as they molded the dough by hand and pressed chunks of white chocolate into the center. Kind of like the see-through kitchen you see at Din Tai Fung, if you know what I mean. The cookies were warm, chewy, and definitely tasty. But honestly, they didn't blow my mind. If I bake cookies at home and eat them fresh out of the oven, they're also warm and chewy--so this didn't feel too different. Still, it was fun to try once and worth the experience. Four cookies cost €12--not exactly cheap--but the packaging is cute, and the shop itself has a great vibe. Overall, glad we tried it, but I probably wouldn't go back.
Are the cookies good? Yes Are they worth 3€? Not particularly Are they worth standing ~20 min for? That is subjective Came by on a Tuesday afternoon around 5:30pm (close at 6pm). Sign outside said they sell cookies opening until sold out. They were apparently low on cookies, people allowed in one at a time per register towards 5:50pm. I waited ~20 min in line and got 2 cookies. I'd say about 10-15 people in line did not get cookies, but your mileage may vary depending on the day! Cookie itself is it warm, gooey, with 2-3 types of melted chocolate inside (dark, milky, malted white). Definitely sweet but not overpowering. Overall, would not get again. Very overhyped !
The most spectacular chocolate cookies I have ever had. When one thinks of Amsterdam, "chocolate cookie" isn't necessarily what comes to mind, but this place is a must-visit. The lines may seem long but are fast moving. The interior of the bakery is gorgeous and the fact they only serve one item eliminates the decision making process from "which one?" to "how many?" The packaging is beautiful and the prices are reasonable when you think about how much a stroopwafel costs. The chocolate cookie is warm, rich, filled with molten white chocolate, and was a decadent treat on a cold winter day.
It's too good to be real. This the best cookie in the world! A thin cocoa cookie filled with melted white chocolate. Whatever amount you think you can eat, order triple--because you'll finish it before you even walk out the door and end up getting back in line. I got in line for the third time, and when the cookies sold out before my turn, I honestly felt like a child whose candy had been taken away
When you're wandering around a new neighborhood and smell something amazing and also see a line going out the door, you know it's time to do a side quest, especially when it's your birthday and you haven't yet had your treat (beyond, ya know, going to the Netherlands). I had never heard of Van Stapele, but now I am pretty sure that I have had the best chocolate cookie in existence. My friends, they come out warm. A crisp on the outside, chewy on the inside chocolate cookie surrounds a melting white chocolate center. This is what would happen if the best double chocolate cookie had a baby with a white sheep of the family chocolate lava cake, but better than you're imagining. A view into the space where workers prepare the cookies, plus a fun marble drop machine in the other window, add a touch of whimsy and some interest while you're waiting in line. Don't worry--it's not a long line. These folks are light yeast and ever so pleasant. Heads up that there's a per-customer limit, but you'll be very happy indeed with just one or two. Don't miss these cookies. Take an overnight layover the next time you fly through Amsterdam, and grab some cookies while you are between museums.
Only one type of cookie is made here alllll day long, BUT it's so good! It's a dark chocolate with a white chocolate filling. You can buy one or a whole pack! The inside is super cute theming and you can see them making the cookies. The line gets long, this place is popular!! We did a 6 pack of the cookies and at some the day of and some the next day. Really good. I recommend to come try them out if you're a cookie lover!!
This must be the DC cupcake of Amsterdam. Waiting in a long line outside the store about to go inside for something that smells really good. Ok they make one thing and pack it many ways. This place lives up to the hype! Simply amazing dark chocolate cookies (served warm in classy packaging!) with a white chocolate gooey filling. I don't even like white chocolate but the melted center pairs wonderfully with the dark chocolate. The line may be long but these cookies are worth the wait! Only caution is that this place closes early (around 6pm I think) so plan your visit accordingly! read more

This shop is the most charming cookie adventure I've ever been to! Too see how they fill every cookie with white chocolate, and be able to feel the wonderful smell coming from the oven... It makes even standing in line a great experience, as long is you don't come too hungry..! (The wait time would be unbearable) When we entered the store, they were just out of fresh cookies, but we got to order for the next round. They took our name, and we left for some other errands near by. Before closing time I returned to pick up a small paper bag with fresh baked cookies. The lovely staff were warm and welcoming even though they had started to close down the shop for the day. I was so happy to bring the bag to my friends. The cookies were super yummy! Lovely texture, especially with the creamy chocolate filling. The taste was sweet and round. These cookies were the perfect treat for us, and I would not hesitate to come back for more! read more

I could cry over how delicious these cookies were. My friend said that it's a must visit while in Amsterdam and she was not wrong! The cookies are soft and sweet without being overwhelming, the young ladies working there were extremely polite, and the best part is we were in and out super quickly. I have been waiting to find a special place to review for my 100th review on Yelp and since I recently travelled to Amsterdam and discovered this amazing place, I knew this was going to be the important one! One sentence to describe what they sell: BEST COOKIES IN THE WORLD! They only sell one type of cookie: a crispy chocolate outside enveloping a melted white chocolate core. Who needs a bigger selection when one is so delicious? They are made on the spot, so when you enter the little shop, you can see the staff baking them in the shop, so you'll probably find that your cookie is still warm, which is the best way to enjoy it as the chocolate inside is all gooey! We obviously found the place on Yelp and after seeing the rating and the pictures, we decided to give it a go. And yes, all of you are right, it is worth it! Believe me, I have a sweet tooth and I have tried many cookies, but these are definitely the best, so we ended visiting the place more than once during our stay! I'm planning to return to Amsterdam just to grab a couple (or a dozen) more! read more

This is a really great cookie. 2 euro will get you a palm-sized rich chocolate warm crunchy-yet-smooth and white chocolate-filled beauty that may be one of the top 10 cookies in the world*. Now, if you're thinking that you hate white chocolate because it's gross and nasty, you're right on most occasions. But you'd be dead wrong this time. This beats any other white chocolate. It doesn't even taste like it - it's that good. Bonus: they'll give you a free sample if you don't know whether you'll like it. But you will. Oh, you will. *No guarantees. read more
This hidden cookie shop is really close to the American Book Center, and there was a sign pointing towards the hidden street it was on. It is difficult to find but worth the hunt! As others have mentioned, they only sell 1 type of cookie - chocolate cookie with a white chocolate center; 2 euro for 1, 10 euro for 6. These are high-quality cookies and still tasted super fresh despite me eating it 6 hours later, though apparently they are made fresh every 30 minutes. The cookie has a perfectly chewy texture in the center with crispy edges, it is the gold standard for "freshly baked". Perfect with a glass of ice cold milk. We walked by this store on a Saturday as they were offering free samples. As we had just had lunch, we declined the samples but made sure to come back later to try. Those cookies are really amazing, so soft and flavorful. The best part: they contain some melted white chocolate in the middle. Price is 2.20 euro per cookie. They also sell Kusmi tea and Bocca coffee. read more

You know if a place only makes one thing, it better be good. Located within a small alleyway, look up and you'll see the sign to cookie heaven. Right when you walk in, grab a sample on the counter. Chocolate cookie with ooey gooey white chocolate center. Drool. They seem to consistently make fresh batches throughout the day so you're bound to get it while it's hot. So delicate, you need to lay them flat to prevent them from breaking. Probably nirvana if you're stoned. For me, I learned that I loved it the more I ate it. Instead of getting tired of the same flavor profile, I just wanted more. Left the shop with 3 cookies but regret not leaving with at least double that. About 2 euros per cookie! But it's worth it. read more
Holy. I dare say that this is the best chocolate cookie in amsterdam if not the world. The shop only sells one product and they are so damn good at baking this gluey, crispy on the outside yet moist inside chocolate cookie. The white chocolate inside is also a nice addition to what is already great! At under 2 euro per piece, it is worth every penny read more

We were in Amsterdam for our honeymoon and I had a few friends recommend this place! They only make 1 cookie every day and only that cookie until they sell out. It was a good cookie, nothing CRAZY, but I'm still glad we came and got it. read more

It's on all the foodie lists when it come to Amsterdam, and so, knowing we had to find out for ourselves we got super hyped at these cookies. The first day we tried to stop by they were all sold out. We went at a time when COVID-19 has been restricting travel, so when we were in Amsterdam there was an evident absence of tourists. I can only image the line during peak summer tourist season. We came back the second day and the line was about 10 people long. It only took us about four or five minutes to get inside. Not sure if they actually have more then one cookie, but from what we gathered we from online and our brief moment in the shop there's only one worth getting and that's the white chocolate filled chocolate cookie. My wife didn't really think it was a cookie, per say, but I disagree. It's soft, gooey, and the white chocolate inside is creamy and delicious. Easily a five star cookie. read more

Holy CRAP these are sweet! But ohh so good too - believe the hype: they're as good fresh as they are warmed up at home (see the instructions it comes with when you buy a box of them). You will most likely have to wait around for these since they bake them fresh every 30 mins or so. The first time I walked into the store, there was a guy just buying out the whole place, like 50 cookies! Arghhh...so devastating! Soo... there is this tiny little shop that sells one thing only, a shop that is barely visible in a tiny little busy street! This could never work, if it weren't for this one thing they sell here: the absolute very best, freshly made -and if you are lucky: still warm- chocolate cookies, filled with a little blob of gooey white chocolate! (And yes, I know, there is also a small selection of teas, but come on: no one steps in here for a tin of tea.) Don't tell yourself: I don't like cookies, or that white chocolate is not chocolate at all: just go in, buy one, find a quiet spot, bite into this little piece of heaven, and...ah... oh, sorry gotta stop, I've suddenly got this craving, and I know just the thing! read more

If I'm Amsterdam you must visit the cookie angels . This place is tiny and there will be a line, but it's worth it. Inside you find a few women baking up warm gooey perfection. I suggest getting several to go. Just as good the next day. Trust me they won't last any longer than that. read more

Confession. I am a sheep. I am a sucker for a lineup, so when we passed a LONG line here on Sunday afternoon we just knew we had to circle back the next day. I am happy to report that there was no line on Monday at 5:30 pm. The intense chocolate aroma alone is worth 5 stars. The cookie (they only make one) is worth going out of your way for. The chocolate cookie is the perfect balance of chewy and crispy and it has a generous lump of white chocolate in the center. We almost skipped this place after reading a lukewarm warm review here because we are in Amsterdam for a short time. I'm glad we indulged as this turned out to be my favorite sweet treat in Amsterdam. read more

I've seen lines outside of this store before so I thought I may as well try it out. I'm not a big fan of sweets so it wasn't my favorite because there was A LOT of chocolate in one cookie. If you love chocolate this will be right up your alley! read more
