Vanilla Bean Bakery has a great variety of cupcakes to choose from. Another reviewer was bummed that they have select flavors each day - that's pretty normal for most bakeries. They do offer a good variety each day, and if you have something specific you want, just call and they can accommodate you. I agree with some of the other reviewers - the cupcakes are really good, but not the most fantastic cupcakes you've ever had. For $3, I'm good with that! I love Holy Cow Cupcakes, but I find myself going to Vanilla Bean Bakery for most of my orders because the owners are the nicest people. They are very helpful and extremely friendly. The physical location of the bakery is much easier for me to get to than Holy Cow Cupcakes or Flying Cupcakes too. By the way, the absolute best part of Vanilla Bean Bakery? The cake truffles. Oh. Stopped in today to check out this place since I was in the area and had a couple friends coming over tonight so I purchased some treats.The store is cute and the service was wonderful. We tried the lemon, chocolate raspberry and chocolate heath truffles. Lemon is good but not as moist as I prefer and the white chocolate separated from the cake immediately. The chocolate raspberry was probably the best of the three. I had expected overwhelming lemon flavor the way the owner described the lemon truffles. I thought they were good but not enough to drive 1/2 hour to purchase. If I'm in the area I might try the other flavors of truffles and a cupcake for a fair review. So I guess, yes, go but if you're looking for truffles/cake balls, in my opinion, Star Bucks still are the best I've had and theirs and 1.50 each. read more

Kristy was amazing from the start of our interaction. I needed two cakes and custom cookies for a surprise birthday dinner I was having. A few of the bakeries I contacted still haven't even gotten back to me. Kristy got back to me ASAP. I told her what I needed and she was able to accommodate me on such short notice. When I got to the restaurant and saw what was delivered I was very happy. The sales were not only beautiful but all my guests raved about how good they were. The custom cookies were also a big hit. Vanilla Bean Bakery is rather lackluster. I've been twice and each time they've had a pretty decent selection of baked goods. There were plenty of cupcakes, cake truffles and cookies to choose from, I will give them that. Service is also very friendly and helpful and their prices are pretty average. However, quality is very lackluster. The first time I went I bought a half dozen cupcakes and a few cake truffles (cake pops without the stick) for my fiance and I to share. We got a variety of flavors to choose from and the cupcakes weren't bad -- but they weren't $3 quality. They were dry and very similar to what you would get at a grocery store bakery. The cake truffles, again, weren't terrible but they were worse than the cupcakes. The candy coating on the outside was very, very hard (especially on the carrot cake) and once you got through it, it separated from the cake itself. Cake flavor was okay depending on which one you got (Spice cake was bad, but the pink champagne and Guinness ones were actually pretty good, all others decent), but at $1.25 a piece, I would not buy them again. All that being said, I did buy them at like 5pm which is pretty close to their close time. Today I was desperately craving a fresh chocolate chip cookie and since Vanilla Bean was on my way home, I figured I'd stop in. It wasn't quite 11 a.m. and they'd just opened at 10, plus I hadn't tried their cookies, so I thought I'd give it another go. Upon walking in I see that they have Red Velvet cupcakes today -- my favorite -- so I thought I would test that out too. The cookie: Again, not great. I'd actually probably have preferred store bought to this one. It was very pale in color, it wasn't chewy (actually kind of crumbly) and almost tasted like a thick shortbread cookie with chocolate chips. Not even a hint of that brown sugar goodness that's typically found in a chocolate chip cookie, which was very disappointing. The cupcake: Disappointed by my cookie, I decided to leave it and turn to the cupcake for satisfaction. Again, a big fail. Possibly bigger than the cookie if for no other reason than that they use a whipped cream frosting on it. What? I thought it was a red velvet rule to be topped with delicious, decadent cream cheese frosting! It's my favorite part. That alone ruined the cupcake for me, but to top it off, it was also very dry. The cake flavor was decent but with all the other factors, I didn't wind up finishing it. It's not the worst place, I'm sure, but it's certainly not on par with Holy Cow, The Flying Cupcake or Parcha Sweets. I think it has potential though, and maybe with some tweaks they could improve their quality, but I probably will not be trying them again. read more

An incredibly friendly place! Just walking inside makes me happy. They have beautiful displays. The prices are a little high, but wow do you get what you pay for. Their strawberry cupcakes are so light and fruity, I think I could eat a dozen. And they have more exotic flavors like Boston cream pie (which my mother said was extremely rich and delicious). I came right before closing on a holiday weekend, so the owner was gracious enough to throw in a few extra cupcakes for me. This is my second time going to Vanilla Bean. The cupcakes definitely taste way better than when I had them in 2014. I order four cupcakes: lemon berry, lemon, cookies and cream, and vanilla. The lemon berry was very moist but I wish it had more flavor. The icing was sweet and light. My sister and father ate the vanilla and cookies and cream cupcake they really enjoyed it. I love cupcakes but these are just not that good. I first tried this place a few years ago and I hated the cupcakes. I went back recently because I was craving cupcakes and to my dismay they taste the same. I bought to cupcakes a white chocolate strawberry!? And a yellow bunt cake with chocolate icing. I was able to enjoy the white chocolate strawberry once I took the icing off but it just felt silly to have to get rid of half my cupcake...the other one wasn't that good even with the icing off but that was mostly due to it being dry. read more

I discovered this little gem earlier this week when I googled "bakery near me." This place had amazing reviews so I stopped in and tried a few cupcakes and truffles. The cupcakes easily put Flying Cupcake and Gigi's to shame. The icing was amazing too, whipped and light but flavorful! But the truffles!!! The cookie dough one is the best tasting cookie dough of life, the perfect texture and flavor, covered in chocolate. Any cake truffle is just unbelievable, the cake texture is so moist and light, while also chewy and dense. I've never enjoyed a truffle more in my life. This was my first visit. I couldn't have hoped for better. I got a chocolate with chocolate buttercream, a purist's cupcake. First, it was not too sweet. The cake tasted just chocolatey, without being overly so. The cake was light and moist - perfect. The buttercream was not overly chocolatey, either. We had a wedding on the 5th of July at a barn in Thornton which we wanted cupcakes. We ordered 48 chocolate and 48 white cupcakes. They were awesome and the owner worked with us in making them with our wedding colors in mind but the one thing that topped our wedding off was the custom wedding cake for us. It was a two tier cake with cow cut outs on it and it looked awesome and tasted even better. I love this place and will no longer make a cake for a party but go here. On a quest to find the right cupcake bakery for my husband's birthday party, I gave Vanilla Bean Bakery a try. I recently moved to the area from Los Angeles so I am used to Sprinkles which I love. So far, the only other bakery I've tried in the Indy Metro Area is Holy Cow Cupcakes in Carmel. The reviews on this place were decent so I thought I'd give it a try. I went in at around noon on a Thursday and the case already looked half empty so right away I wasn't wowed by the presentation. I decided to try two flavors: one traditional (vanilla with chocolate frosting) and one specialty (chocolate malt ball). My theory is that a bakery should be measured by their mastery of the simple and traditional flavors. Unfortunately, I was disappointed with both flavors. The vanilla cake was ok but not spectacular. The chocolate frosting left something to be desired. I was hoping for a richer chocolate flavor. The chocolate malt ball just wasn't good and I can't put my finger on why. However, I couldn't even finish it. I also didn't like the chocolate cake as much as the vanilla. The verdict is that I will not be visiting this place again. Holy Cow was better than this bakery but I will continue to try the others around town. read more

I agree with others that it is better than Flying Cupcake but not as good as Holy Cow. First, they are really expensive. $3 for a cupcake seems pretty steep to me. Second, there was something about the frosting that wasn't quite right. I ordered the peanut butter cup, orange creme, pumpkin, and peach pie. On all of them, the frosting was thick...just a little too thick. Maybe not sweet enough? I don't quite know but it just didn't do it for me. Now on the plus side, the cake portion of the cupcake was outstanding!! Each flavor I tried was moist and perfectly baked. The cake portion was also generous which made each cupcake fairly large. There was a dozen or so cake ball flavors to choose from as well as various cupcakes. The cake balls were very good. Of the different varieties we tried, pink champagne was our favorite. The cupcakes were equally as good. The cake itself was moist and decorated well with ample frosting. For my particular taste, the frosting was a bit too sweet and slightly more granular than I prefer. However, they may very well have other frosting types to choose from. We just told them to put on whatever they had readily available. Overall, it was a good bakery. Price and quality were on par with what I've come to expect from a quality bakery. I have been to Vanilla Bean quite a few times. This place has a very nice variety of cupcakes and cake truffles. It's actually hard to decide what flavors of truffles to get, because there are so many options! Their cake truffles are addicting! You can't eat just one! A few of my favorite truffles are the cinnamon, heath bar, and vanilla raspberry. The cake truffles are nice and moist, but not mushy like ones I've had at other places I've tried. A few of my favorite cupcakes from here are the white chocolate strawberry cupcake, the mocha cupcake, and the butterscotch cupcake. I think the butterscotch is my very favorite actually, it's so good! Their cupcakes are very moist, and I love their buttercream icing. Also, their service is wonderful!
