Absolutely amazing!!!!! Jillian is professional, classically trained, keeps up w/modern styles, understands exactly what you want and produces an end result that exceeds expectations. I've had my hair done at Maiden Lane shops in SF, The Red Door Salon and other high end places. Jillian surpasses all those stylists. She has a true gift and is very talented. I will certainly keep her as my regular stylist. The shop is decorated nicely and is well kept. Apparently they do make up and facials in house as well, which is something I will definitely try next time. The rest of the staff is really sweet too. This place is a true gem! read more

I really enjoyed getting my hair done here. Like many others on here, I bought a Groupon, who could pass up $50 for cut and highlights? The salon is small and in an odd location, so it was smart of them to put out a Groupon. Kaitlynn took her time and did an excellent job. She didn't treat me any different for being a Groupon customer and told me they give 15% off for first time customers and even though I came in with a Groupon, I still get the new customer discount the next time I go in. I will definitely be back. Their regular prices are fair and you won't have to deal with the hustle and bustle of a busy, over-priced salon. read more

First of all let me just say that I have been extremely unhappy with my hair for over a year now. I live in Portland and the stylist I've been seeing hasn't been getting my color the way I'd like. It comes out more yellow and orange each time, very brassy. I wanted something with a more gray/blonde tint to it (to go with my naturally graying hair ugh). I had coworkers telling me I looked like a pumpkin at one point. So I went home to the Bay Area last weekend to celebrate my 30th and researched salons in Concord on yelp. I found Vanity Chair and they had such good reviews. I also really liked the pictures, especially the ones of clients of Lexi's. Some of her clients had colors that were exactly what I wanted. I showed her what I was hoping for and we talked about it while I was there. She was honest about what I could expect and I am beyond happy with my hair. I haven't been this happy with my color in years. It's exactly what I wanted. I'm definitely going to see her again anytime I come back to the Bay. Went there after reading stellar reviews on Yelp. Got a 10 dollar haircut for the price of 35 bucks. The hair stylist was very young and equally inexperienced. Couldn't even do a blow dry. In any half decent salon she would be moping the floors and changing towels for at least another year before she was allowed anywhere near customers - let alone cut their hair unsupervised. I've gotten a facial with Alexie and left the salon feeling super relaxed. My skin felt so refreshed and very soft. I've also gotten my hair done by Jill a few times and loved it. They staff here is fantastic. I had just gone to another salon where the literally butchered my hair. In tears my husband went on-line and saw the reviews for the Vanity Chair, swooped me in the car and drove me there. Upon entering they had a caring attitude when I told them of my horrible experience. They listened with a concerning ear. They assured that they would take care of me. Indeed they did. Jillian took her time tending to the disaster she had to work with. She made me feel relaxed and confident. The result, the best hair cut I have ever had. Loved it! Lexie made me feel super comfortable, was honest with me about everything, kept me in the loop of what she was doing, and come to find out we grew up knowing the same group of people. The first haircut I got from Kaitlin was fantastic! I just loved it and thought I had found the salon that I liked Finally! Then I went back and she didn't do as good a job. Uneven and choppy in spots and she wouldn't cut some layers that I wanted where it hadn't been cut in a long time! She said it didn't need it! There are also long hairs underneath she didn't cut so I can pull them out and it looks all uneven. Don't think I'm going back. :( read more

Vanity Chair is my new go-to place for any and all hair whims. My first time here was about 7 months ago, when I needed a highlights touch up after my regular stylist at the other salon quit her activities due to personal issues. I did an extensive research for the salons in the area and chose VC due to the pictures and reviews posted on Yelp. Also, the phone conversation with the stylists prior to my first appointment went well and I felt welcome. VC offers a 15% discount to anyone who's visiting the salon for the first time. I booked an appointment with Joel and she did a fantastic job! Not only my hair looked and felt healthy and alive, but the color also was very vibrant and shiny, thanks to the quality products they use here. I was really happy with Joel's techniques: she is very patient and thorough, doesn't rush and makes sure you like the result. Joel applied the toner to my newly-highlighted hair and combed it all the way through until it was time to rinse it off. She never left me for more than 10 minutes, only to let the color to develop. After all, I was very pleased! Next time, I went in for the partial highlights and also liked it a lot. Then, I did an ombre color. It didn't quite work out for me (it seems to be cute on other people, but I didn't feel like myself while wearing it), so I scheduled another appointment for the color adjustment. Both Joel and Alexie (the salon owner) were there, and they offered fantastic tips on how to adjust the color of my hair to one shade first, and then go with the copper red I had in mind. The problem with ombre color is that you can't really apply a new shade before evening out the overall hair color. So, the process included a deep-conditioning mask, a primer, a toner, the 2 colors to add dimension, the final toner, and the sealant. Both stylists worked on my hair, while being friendly and extremely efficient. All together, it took a little over 4 hours, but my hair wasn't stripped, damaged or weakened at all, thanks to the professionalism of both stylists. They prefer to do what it takes to keep the hair healthy and the client happy, no matter how long it takes and how much of the product they have to use. I really appreciate that thinking and thus, I'm going back whenever my new vibrant color needs a touch up. Plus, blow outs, curls and simple straightening all look excellent when done at Vanity Chair! read more

Alexie made me feel like gold when she did my hair, makeup, and facial for my 30th birthday. I'm very picky when it comes to makeup and prefer rocking a more natural look. She enhanced my eyes and made my skin look glowing, which most of it came from the awesome facial before hand. She's very thoughtful and makes sure to give you what you want versus talking you into something that she wants to do. I can actually make my hair look the same way once I get home and wash it as Jillian made it look at the shop. Was my first and last time here. Worst damn haircut I've ever gotten from a girl named Samantha never going back. my hair looks so chopped up and stupid I hate it. It appeared to look ok when I was sitting in the chair I even asked for a mirror to see the back of my hair and she kept touching it so I couldn't see the end result in a nice way. She said it would look better once I curled it (yea because it looks like crap straight.) I even tipped her. Then I got home and got a good look at it. Never going back to her again. I went to Vanity Chair as a last minute decision since I was new in the area and they were close by and open. The place is in a kinda funky corner with tons of parking. Kaitlynn, their stylist ended up cutting my hair. I was shocked how well she did. drove from daly city mind you. randomly in the east bay and figured i'd check yelp for some highly reviewed salons for a last minute cut. one stylist was available (millie or jillie i don't remember. it was one of the two) was apparently my stylist. i was a bit turned off because the stylist didnt seem to put too much effort into putting herslf together that day. then again i did read good reviews, right? she currently was with a client so i sat down with some mags and waited. seemed like the client was a friend of hers because they were having more conversation rather than an actual haircut. maybe i shouldve come in for a facial instead? those have far more great reviews than cuts did i suppose? but couldnt help to notice that were were children at the salon. cute but is this a salon or a day care? with children/babies crying and playign along with people constantly on their phone with just lots of personal chatter, i grew rather impatient and decided to leave. who left reviews on here? friends of friends of friends? read more
