Called Van around 4:00pm for an alteration. The dress I planned on wearing THE NEXT DAY wasn't like how I wanted it to fit so I called in and she said to bring it in right away to see if she can do it. She was nice enough to even see me and consider it. I tried it on and she immediately knew what I wanted fixed and saw the problem. She told me to come back around 7:00pm to pick up the dress the SAME day. I came back and sure enough it was done! I came home to try it on.. And the dress fit just exactly as I wanted. THANK YOU VAN. You're incredible for fixing my dress on such short notice! I will be coming back because her place is down the street and I have a lot of pants/jeans to bring to her. =) read more

Giving this woman one star because of her unfriendly demeanor. I didn't end up going through with the alterations because she lacked the business skills of being convincing and striking up conversation. When she opened the door, she gave no smile or hello and basically shoo'd us out at the end. While I was putting on my dress for her to see what needed to be fixed, she impatiently asked what was taking me so long. Her wall of yelp achievements from 2012 and 2013 were unimpressive. You're a lil outdated sis. Last but not least, she was really unconvincing about saying how taking in the sides of my dress would cost $40 and that we wouldn't find a price like that anywhere else. Left Pure Blue Japan and Momotaro jeans for Van to hem and taper. I was quite hesitant at first about tapering selvage jeans at a tailor rather than Railcar or Denimdoctor. Van assessed that the selvedge line was central and immediately determined that tapering from the inseam would be necessary. I left quite confident as she took notes on what I needed done and look forward to the results. read more

I don't think Van's Alterations is cheap. The lady is really sweet and alterations got done on time. Charges $60 to tailored the length of a dress and $20 to replaced broken zipper. I got the dress online for $50... probably come back for broken zippers not to hem dresses. read more

Came in and had my suit pants taken in about a size and a half in the waist. They look PERFECT. You could not tell the difference between the factory seem, and Van's. $10? EPIC! read more

I often drove by Van's Alteration and always wondered if this place was any good. I decided to try her out. I needed my dress altered a little shorter and the straps altered. I dropped off the dress on Tuesday evening and the dress was done on Friday. Van is very nice and sweet she gave me exactly what I wanted. I also love the fact that she is only a 5min drive from me. Van altered my wedding dress perfectly. It is a mermaid cut and she had to bring it in from top to bottom and shorten it since I'm so petite. I basically walked in, put on the dress, and she told me exactly what needed to be done. I went to 4 other seamstresses who quoted me almost triple what Van asked for. She did a great job on the dress and did the bustle for FREE. She works out of her house so just call her before you come. I highly recommend her to any brides out there who don't want to stress out about buying another dress when alterations go wrong. Went here to taper a pair of jeans and was impressed with the quality of work plus the turnaround time. I've been here multiple times and have sent my friends here to get work done as well! I brought my suit pants here to be hemmed. Van did not take the time to measure properly, and I ended up taking them elsewhere to be redone. The tailor doing the job said that it was poorly done. I will not be returning. read more

Van is a really nice person. She does all of her work at home so it's best to call first just in case! I had a dress hemmed because it was way too long for me. Brought a suit jacket to Van that needed waist suppression and sleeve shortening. I know she has many clients based on her ratings here. Despite that, she fixed up my jacket in a week. The process was relatively quick and easy; pinning here, bit of measuring there and I was out. Granted, I did have to return twice after that to check up on it, though the 2nd time was out of our control; my dress shirt's sleeves had shrunken after the first wash(no dryer),by about half an inch. She shortened the jacket's sleeve again, accordingly. Now, I usually bring my things to my grandpops who does my work for me, but he's been getting lazy. Still, he is the best in the city and he checked out her work and said she did a good job for the price. I feel that shortening sleeves should cost 10-15 as opposed to 20, especially since I don't have functional buttons, but I know it can still be a hassle. Will be bringing my new Brooks Brothers suit for her to fix up this weekend! Check her out, it's worth the drive if you live in the city. Having a tailor you can trust is essential. Many people don't know that or don't care enough and end up wearing unflattering clothes. Style is timeless and fit is key. read more

Van is not professional at all. I asked her to do some buttonholes on my very expensive jacket. The buttonholes she did totally destroyed my jacket. The buttonholes are not straight, very uneven and diagonal, and very close to each other than normal (I can't even sew the buttons on top of them). Also, she sewed the buttonholes on top of the lining at the cuffs (instead sewing them on the fabrics). I explained to her very clearly before giving the job to her, but she didn't follow my instruction. I was very disappointed! I will never come back to her again. read more

I had three pairs of skinny jeans hemmed and I was very happy and satisfied with Van's work. Not to mention the cost of $5.00 a piece is fantastic! She is a nice lady too. Van is awesome at what she does - I had 4 pairs of designer jeans collecting dust in my closet because I am a short gal and designers just love putting a 32" inseam on their jeans. I decided to get all of them hemmed and tapered into skinny jeans and I couldn't be more pleased! They were all done by the end of the week like she stated and I was really impressed with how she was able to match the stitching flawlessly. I had Van worked on 2 of my pants and both had an unprofessional finish with multiple threats sticking out. Not worth paying 2.5/3x more than what l'd pay at other places for sure. Will add pics later. read more

Sweet lady, always does a great job. She's slightly more expensive than other places, and the pricing can be a little inconsistent sometimes, so make sure you double check it with her if you choose to come back. It also helps to give her a specific deadline. read more

I generally need to get all my pants altered since i'm only 5'4 and shop in the men's section. I've been to pretty much every tailor/alterations place in the south bay and most reviews for other places are for dresses or weddings. None of the other places could do a good hem and taper. I tried Van's out and finally found a place that can finally do it right. No complaints here. Van's sewing lines are clean! The pants fit perfect and she considered other factors to ensure the overall fit would look good. I found her to be perfectly polite and did the job great. She was informative and gave me the information I needed. I would highly recommend Van for pants, and if that is any indication of the other work she does, i'm sure she would do everything else with care and precision. read more

Van is such an incredibly sweet lady who handles all of her work professionally. I've brought in two pairs of true religion jeans and a dress shirt, all of which were much to big on me. I tried them on, told her exactly how I wanted it, and then she took her measurements. The return time was roughly 4 days(if it's for something important she might be able to rush it in the same day or day after). When I got them back, I tried them on in front of her, and wow. Everything fit perfectly, exactly how I had wanted them too. I don't remember what my total cost for her work was, but I can without doubt guarantee that it was cheap and more than fair for her quality of work. She's the third tailor I've been too, but is the only one that has given me 100% satisfaction. By the way, her house rules are no shoes upon entry. Please be courteous to this sweet lady. read more

Van helped my husband take measurements and notes for a made-to-measure suit that arrived too small, so we could send it back for them to fix. She didn't desire anything in return, though we offered to pay for her time. Her home is lovely and she seems very nice! We'll be coming back with other alteration needs. read more

Van's is the miracle worker of tailors. I've taken everything from couture gowns to simple jeans to her. She always expertly fits everything and does an amazing job. what can i say about van? she's simply amazing. i got a wedding dress from CHINA - one of those order-online, pray-they're-able-to-create-a- replica-designer-gown-for-dirt -cheap places. i would say it was a huge mistake if not for van. i had brought my dress to several other places for a quote, and all of them quoted me over double what van charged. she did such a fabulous job and did not cut any corners despite the fact that i invited her to since we were really short on time. she took everything in (about 4 inches at least around the waist/bust, some in the hips), shortened the hem, which meant she had to shorten every ruffle layer as well as the netting underneath. i told her to just cut the netting underneath since no one would be able to see it anyway, but she finished all the edges anyway. that just goes to show what a strong work ethic she has. she also tucked in the uneven scalloped lace around the bust - turned out like it was designed that way. aside from her obvious talent, she has a warm and energetic personality to boot. she works out of her home - and boy it's a really really big beautiful house! anyway, i really lucked out when i came across her on yelp!!! i'd trust her to alter/tailor ANY of my clothes. her prices are unbeatable. read more
