This is small business at its best. If there was a hole in the wall/ diamond in the rough for a skilled seamstress this is the place. Here's what you won't find here: **Fancy place with high ceilings, floor to ceiling mirrors, lots of public parking (the location is at her house), platform to stand on while you're trying on clothes.. If you want something like that, go elsewhere. Here's what you will find: **A skilled humble woman named Hoang who works alongside her husband in a storefront that is also her house. What you'll do is park in her driveway (or the street if you can find street parking). Once you walk in, she'll ask you what you need and guide you to the dressing room which is a tiny one that is off to the side and closed off with mini drapes. You'll try on the clothing that you need altered so that she can take a look and alter accordingly. There's not a lot of room inside the fitting room once you're done trying on, she'll meet you right outside. There is a mirror waiting for you where you'll stand and she'll take a fabric marker to mark where she needs to cut/ take in/ alter.. etc. Here's what is amazing about Hoang. She does the best work and charges a quarter of what you would pay at "bourgeois" alteration shops. How do I know this? Because I've paid much more at other places. I needed a long evening gown altered recently for a formal event and I knew I would be able to implicitly trust Hoang to cut the gown and sash for me with no issues. This is a great spot for quick alterations! I've never asked for same-day service here but I know they're willing and able to do it. Prices are very reasonable as well. We've been coming here over the past year to hem dresses and pants. I've also asked them to take in a dress for me that was slightly too big. They always do a great job! For dresses, I've paid between $40-60 for hemming depending on how many layers there are. This is a no frills local business but they get the job done and do it well. It's located in a residential area in someone's converted garage. You can pull up in the driveway or on the street. Usually I'm a huge supporter of mom and pop shops, but I cannot give my stamp of approval for this place even if I tried. I brought in a wedding guest dress to be hemmed. They quoted me 2 days for the alteration which is standard. When I picked up my dress, I noticed that the edges were raggedy and uneven. It looked as if the seamstress took a pair of scissors to it and cut it. I asked for it to be hemmed and was not informed the dress material could not be hemmed when I dropped it off. The inner layer was untouched. When I brought the dress back, the gentleman confirmed that the edges were not fact straight, took a ruler to the dress and said the dress lies in a circle and could not get straight lines. This was completely unprofessional as he was putting the blame to me for their shoddy work and did not take ownership. I could have took a pair of sharp scissors and cut it myself. I trusted the "professionals" for a service and they did not deliver. My $500 evening gown is ruined. Their lack of craftsmanship and customer service deserves zero stars for me and I certainly won't be returning. Take care of your clothes. There are other trusted alterations in the area. read more

One Hour Alterations - The "hemming" I received. DO NOT GO HERE! - Sewing & Alterations Near Me - San Jose, California

Quick, easy and amazing prices. This place is legit just an extension of a house on King. Parking is limited on the driveway, but there tends to be some parking available on the street. The place is family owned. I'm sure they own the house that this place is attached to. It's ran by a husband and wife, but I've seen other people work there as well. I dropped off two pieces of Indian attire - some Kurta Pajama tops. To take in the sleeves, bottom and sides, they quoted by $45 each piece with a 3 day turnaround. This was significantly cheaper than other places that quoted double with a 2 week turnaround (even more with "rush"). They did a great job and everything was ready on time as they had quoted. Overall, a great place to get things altered. Way cheaper than most of the competition and really good people. read more

Coming from a repeat customer: avoid this place. I HIGHLY recommend you take your business somewhere else where they respect and actually listen to what you're looking to do with YOUR clothes. My mom and I stopped by each with clothes that we wanted altered. The only man that works there helped fit me for a coat that I brought to have the sleeves shortened. He was patient with me and actually took into consideration my preferred sleeve length. Then it was my mom's turn and the man signaled another lady (seems like the owner) to help my mom out. My mom tried on the first pair of pants and the lady pinned the pants to her recommendation of where she thinks the length of the pants should be. When my mom asked her for a bit more slack on the length, the worker was visibly annoyed by this request. And when my mom and I asked her if she thought it would've been better to have brought the heels that my mom planned to wear those pants with, she would cut us off mid-sentence and almost signaled us to keep it moving. She had no patience to hear what we had to say. We didn't say anything in response to her behavior. Then my mom went to put on a different pair of pants that were a different fabric and style from the first pair of pants. For whatever reason the worker was annoyed that my mom had changed into the second pair of pants that she brought to have altered. She told my mom "You don't have to try on every single pants you know? I only need one and I'll cut them all the same length." I was shocked by how rude she was being but still decided not to say anything. My mom tried to explain that this was a different fabric and style of pants. The worker had no patience and again would cut her off mid-sentence. At this point, I stepped in and asked if she was in some sort of hurry or if we came as the store was closing (I knew that we didn't) and asked her if it was okay for my mom (THE CLIENT) to try on HER OWN CLOTHES to make sure they get altered to the preference that SHE IS PAYING FOR. The worker again showed her discontent for this and snickered as she said "Sure." At this point, I decided to tell my mom that we should leave instead. And we did. But not before letting them know that part of the reason people come to get their clothes altered is because they have a preference for how they want their clothes to fit. And part of the job is listening to those preferences and working with the client. I've come to this place before and they always seem to be annoyed when clients ask for more/less length. If the client is paying and that's how they like their clothes, why is it a huge dilemma for them? All she had to say was "This is how I do my job." If having no patience, cutting people off mid-sentence, and not taking into consideration what the client wants for THEIR clothes, then This place does not deserve my business. As my mom and I gathered our belongings to leave, she began to shake her head and say things in another language to the man that had helped me out first. There were enough context clues to assume she was speaking about us. As I mentioned before, I've brought my clothes to this place before but their professionalism has steadily decreased after every visit. This isn't how you treat repeat customers. Huong has been my go to seamstress for at least 20 years. This review is long overdue. If you're looking for a bourgeois fancy storefront, you won't find that here. Huong works out of her home partially made into a little shop- on a busy street facing King Rd. Huong has altered jeans, pants, and dresses for myself and my family. This is a family run business, and they hustle. Huong gets the job done and works around time you need it by. I completely trust her with altering any items of clothing. Most recently celebrated my daughter's 18th bday cotillion--needed all 8 girls in her court dresses altered, my own formal gown along with my daughter's gown. She took care of all of it. Pricing is reasonable- she charges up to half or what you'll pay elsewhere. You'll often see Huong's husband working as well- both are helpful and kind. I recall a time when I hadn't picked up an item timely and they called me when they would be going out of town to ensure I was able to pick it up. Not sure if other businesses would do that. Just got chewed out for coming back to have a large set of pant hems redone. Dropped off 7 pairs with a sample. I wish I'd taken before and after photos. All the pants flared so I came back to ask them to be taken in. Very nicely and politely. It's an honest mistake. Well, I was met with pure confrontation. Both owners start arguing with me about how the pants all matched the sample I left. I haven't event said a word here. All I'd done was say they all flared and if they could be redone. They also tell me they did not charge me to redo them the first time I had come to get them. Yes this was a second round because I'd come in for them THREE times on their timeline until they were ready. They were busy. I accommodated THEM. And still, they only said they'd do 2 of the pants. I was on the hunt for a dry cleaning place for my first dry cleaning experience. I had 5 winter jackets and coats that I wanted to care for and get them dry cleaned. Of course, I looked on Yelp and found that One Hour Alterations was only down the street from where I live. The store is located in the neighborhoods so I had a bit of a hard time finding it. Also, I made a mistake of parking in the tiny lot as backing out onto a busy street was quite stressful so try to find street parking to save you some trouble. As soon as I walked in, the lady in the front gave me prices on each coats/jackets. I think that their prices vary depending on how thick your jacket is. The thickets coat I brought in cost me $16 and the silk blouse I brought in was only $4. Now, I have no experience with other dry cleaning places but I'm assuming prices are competitive. My total was a bit hefty but I definitely would not want to ruin my clothes so I didn't mind paying the price of fresh dry cleaned clothes for the winter. As for the turn-around time, I dropped off my clothes on a Thursday morning and was supposed to be ready for pick-up on Monday. I came in on Monday morning and they weren't ready. Luckily, I was not in a hurry so I did not mind waiting for the final touches for my clothes. After inspecting my clothes when I arrived home, I realized that there was a little line of fuzzies on one of my coats. Looked like they just missed shaving the fabric. Dropped off my brand new suit on Saturday. Asked for the suit to be done by Wednesday, mind you it's never been worn and still has the tags attached. I call back on Wednesday to pick up my suit and their response is: what is your name? what color suit do you have? After a 5 minute conversation going back and forth i inform them i'll be there in 10 minutes. I get there and my brand new suit is no where to be found. They look everywhere and can't find my suit.... i have to start looking through their stuff and finally find my suit stuffed under a bunch of bags.I pull out the suit and it's completely wrinkled and no one has even started any of the alterations. I based my first impressions of the reviews here and thought I'd give it a try. I only needed a simple alteration to my grad dress (loose around the shoulders) and they got it done so quickly and for so cheap too!! I walked in and showed them the dress. The lady there (sorry I never got her name!) told me to put it on. She asked what needed fixing and I told her. She pinned the adjustments, and I handed the dress over. She told me I could pick it up in a few days which was perfect, because I didn't need it for another week anyway. I realized day of that I wasn't going to be able to pick it up exactly at the agreed upon time, so I called a few hours earlier to see if I could pick it up the next morning instead. She told me my dress was already finished so I could pick it up earlier if I wanted! Really amazing shop. I had a last minute emergency hem for a pair of jeans that I needed before a flight the next day. I was hoping to get them tapered as well but I was worried that would add time to the job and I needed it done extremely fast. When I got to the shop the owners were incredibly friendly and caring. They fully understood and appreciated my situation and offered to do both the hem and tapering! I was a little worried about the time crunch but I agreed. They ended up beating their own time estimate by two hours! The whole process ended up taking about an hour, living up to their name. And the job was done perfectly! Came in last Thursday and the lady helped get my dress pants tapered and shortened. Came back Saturday to pick them up and felt okay. Went home and tried them on with my dress shoes and wasn't happy with how they looked, too baggy and too short, no big deal easy fix. Came back Tuesday to get them worked on again, this time a gentleman helped and said he'd have them done by noon the next day. I came back the next day and he chuckled while saying "I forgot. I work on them now. Come back in 30 mins" they were finally done an hour later and told me whoever worked on them last put glue on the inside so it may stick to itsef. Yeah, that was you guys who did that. Instead of owning up they got mad and argued with me telling me no way they'd use glue. Also they don't wear masks during covid season read more
