Awesome. Simply awesome! My wife and I had our wedding cake made by Van's Bakery and we are very satisfied with our choice. I had considered Sweet Traders, Final Touch, and Calico Cake Shop. They were able to deliver what we wanted at 1/3 of the cost of the other guys. We were given the option to come in for a cake tasting where we tasted 3 different flavors. They did not mind the fact that we visited them a million times to try and pick out a design for our cake. I had a 4-tier custom mocha cake to feed 200 people and had many of our guest compliment on it. I was also able to provide my own flowers for the cake and have it delivered to the reception hall at no extra charge! read more

The ONLY reason I am giving this place a 3 is for their fruit tarts. My family and I always get their big fruit tart to take to parties and gatherings. The pastries, cakes and bobas= not so great. The cakes are dry, the pastries are kind of bland or stale tasting and their bobas (mocha and melon) taste kind of off and bitter. Their prices are pretty cheap and service is friendly. I wouldn't recommend this place other than for their fruit tarts. You're better off going next door to the many other bakeries in that plaza. read more

After visiting half a dozen bakeries, we chose Van's Bakery for our wedding cake. This was the last vendor we booked because cake wasn't one of our priorities. So, we chose Van's because it was relatively inexpensive and the lady helping us was very courteous, thorough, and friendly. In the bakery, there was a display wedding cake we liked. We asked for the exact cake except we would bring in different flowers that went with our theme color. A plus about Van's was they placed the flowers on for you free of charge. Just buy it and bring it in. When the night of the reception came, when we walked in, we were a bit disappointed with the cake. The flowers was not placed as we asked for. This was puzzling since there was an actual display cake in their store we told them to copy. The problem was that they put flowers on every tier instead of only the two tiers that that had the spacers. It made the cake look busier than what we wanted. In addition, on the tiers that had the spacers, the flowers was sparsely applied, which meant that you could see the spacers. Now this may sound silly and nit-picky, but simply put, we asked for something specific and it was not delivered. I came in with my mom to get a quick pricing on a Bridal shower cake I have in mind. The lady at the register was very hard to understand. I showed her what I wanted, something large enough for 35 people in a simple buttercream with fondant decals on it. She kept saying it would be entirely fondant. Totally not what I was asking for. Language barrier maybe? Who knows. She asked what color I wanted the polka dots on the cake, I told her grey and she said they couldn't do that. They only offer blue and yellow. NEXT! At least they had sample a mock up of the size you're looking for. All of the cakes in the windows and the store look dated, not to mention extremely dirty. read more

Went here for the first time today. Bought a few croissants to see how they were. They were hard and seemed like they might have been a day old. The people working there were not very friendly. Super disappointed in the cake I received from this bakery. I needed a customized Frozen themed cake for my daughters 3rd birthday. Before even coming to the bakery, I had called and asked if they can do customized edible images and they said they can as long as I have the picture with me. I was excited because I've seen the reviews and have family that have purchased beautiful cakes from them before. Upon arrival, I spoke to an associate and told her exactly what I wanted. I texted her the photo that I wanted printed on the cake and she said it would be a sugar photo. I assumed that she meant an edible sugar sheet and so I agreed. I also told her that I wanted to change the rosettes on the cake from purple to light blue to match the picture and she said okay and noted everything in my receipt. I gave them two weeks in advance and when I came to pick it up, I was already disappointed. The cake looked nothing like how I expected, the picture came out overly saturated with a blue hue and I didn't understand why the picture had lines running across it. The rosettes also weren't blue as how I asked! It was already too late and I need the cake by the next day so I just paid and left, already not satisfied. When it was time to cut the cake I couldn't even cut it and I couldn't figure out why until I realized that they literally printed out the picture on what seemed like a thin plastic sheet and stuck it on the frosting!! WTH!! So much for edible. So unprofessional and such lack of consideration. I was so angry and disappointed. Never again will I buy a cake from here. read more

The 1 star is for how the pastries looked, but not for how they taste, coz for taste they would not get any stars! Sorry but not impressed with this bakery! They had the door to the place open & flies we're able to come in & fly around all the desserts laid out on tables. Bought the miniature fruit tarts, which had crust that weren't baked properly, kinda doughy still. The Tiramisu cakes were not light but heavy cheesecake like & weren't even that great. Also purchased the eclair lookin things that had fruits on them, which were also a big let down. We are NOT comin back to this place. Should have just gone next door to the French bakery Pattiserie, they were cleaner & the pastries looked way better. Maybe pricier but am sure it's worth the price. read more

This review is for their fruit tart cakes only. I'm pretty sure its made fresh every day, not too sure about the other cakes. Their fruit tart cakes sell out pretty quickly so make sure you go early in the day. I bought one for my dad's birthday and came around 4 PM, they only had one 10" fruit tart cake left. I think it was $30 or $32. The cake itself is super flaky and not overly sweet. Can't wait to order another one for mother's day!! :D read more

This place also serves various drinks and they're supposedly known for whipping up a badass avocado shake.. since their reputation had been ingrained in the avocado shake I decided to try out the red bean with grass jelly shake... it tasted more like I was sucking a Viet dessert through a big fat straw rather than sipping down a smoothie. Okay I have not actually been here, but I have had a few food items from this place and they were awesome. See I work with this lady that stops by this joint a few times a week and she brought in some puff pastry thingies with chicken or pork in them. They were sooo good. I had her pick me up a box full to take to a friend's house Christmas Eve. Absolute hit with the crowd. Not really sure what to expect since I'm from NY and my cousin brought me here. So from an outside POV this place is decently large. Tons of Vietnamese snacks and goodies to grab on the go piled on large tables as you walk in. Most of the stuff looked good. Had dim sum before coming here so only bought this coconut green jelly while my sister picked up a bunch of other snacks which weren't that good. Honestly, I come here because of my grandma. She likes to buy random stuff from Van's because it's walking distance from our home (good cardio for her). Van's used to be a great place to get stuff, but now with more competition, they are moving down the lineup. The cakes are very well decorated and presented; but as for taste, not so great. I love fruit cakes, but their standards don't meet mine. If you're looking for small pastries, then go next door (french style bakery). Sometimes I come here to buy lotto strachers or a quick fix for curry flavor beef jerky (average taste compared to kho bo stores in oc). Store is well laid out and things do look fresh to a day or 2 old. Pricing is average since they compete with the other stores. Parking is okay, but you're in asian town to look twice when you back out. read more

I didn't like this place. As soon as you step in the place a very strong odor will slap you in your face. Employees are too serious no friendly welcoming. I asked couple of questions, because I am not to familiar with Asian delicatessen, and the staff were not interested to answer them. The prices are quite of extreme $45 for a small cake. I don't mind to pay for a very good cake, but the cake was very small. I bought two chocolate mousse, flan, and coconut cake honestly the flavors were no that great, I had it better and for a cheaper price. I also got couple of macaroons for $1.50 each, nutella and red velvet was good, pistachio had a strong sour taste no like it. This place is beyond reproach. Every time I come here I always leave pissed off. I ordered the green waffles, asked if they can all be hot, the lady looks at me and gives me the ones that have been sitting on top of the waffle maker. While I was waiting for my phone to get fix next door I stumble upon this Van's Bakery. I got excited because I was hungry after the long drive from L.A. I saw that they sold Pandan Waffles aka green waffle!!! If you never had these you need to try it out. They are made from coconut milk and pandan flavor. It is easier to order in Vietnamese than in English but they will understand you. Remember that you want your waffle hot and fresh or else they give you a old one that they warm up. They are soo cheap at $1.50 each!! IF your not into green waffles they also sell cakes. The flavors range from durian (my personal favorite),coconut,and mocha. read more

I've been here a few times....mainly to pick up some cafe sua da. The coffee here is yummy and runs about two bucks. There are several Van's Bakery locations, but I like this one. It's packed with goodness. Desserts, snacks, beverages, and loads of other things. I'm not Vietnamese, nor do I speak the language...and sometimes I have questions about what things are and the pricing of items. The people here are always helpful and there was no language barrier the times I've been here. One time, i was looking for a snack. Something savory, not sweet.They have these bun things for $1..they have various ones like pork, vegetarian, egg and coconut, chicken, and such. I'm vegetarian and like to inquire about foods before I eat them in case I unknowing consume non-vegetarian foods. I asked about the egg and coconut bun and the vegetarian bun. The lady was very helpful in letting me know they were vegetarian. I decided on the vegetarian bun, which she offered to heat up for me. It was a yummy snack, and only a buck! It had carrots, peas, mushrooms, and noodles cooked in a savory sauce and all enclosed in a slightly sweet bread thing! Yum! read more

As a family we came here 90% of the time for cakes and treats, but after today NEVER again. Usually their cakes were as usual, expected and nothing exciting which is what my parents are (plus the price is reasonable) used to and that's why we always come back. The last few times it just get so bad- first of all i bought a single piece of Moca Cake they have...and it's so bad..it smells like cockroach was baked with it and it was super dry...I almost threw up in my mouth...I had to throw it away in disgust. I had no desire to come back until today when I asked my fiance to get me some cake at another bakery, but for some reason he forgot and went to Vans and got me a piece of Durian cake and the fruit tart. Half way through the Durian Cake, it tasted funny, sour and smells like rotten milk! It's so disgusting...so I spat it out and cut another piece with my spoon and smelt it..and it smelt like rotten milk again, as if it's an entirely different cake! WTF? What is going on? I muttered in disgust AGAIN and vow NOT to ever buy anything from them. They really jack up the prices during chinese new year! They charge $17 for a tin-boxed cookies that you can buy from the supermarket for $5 max. Just because they wrap it up with some dried coconut strips and a box of tea, that means they can charge you $40. If you bought all those separately at the grocery store, it would only cost you $15 at max. I'm sure it doesn't cost you $25 to wrap a gift yourself... I have faith in you, have faith in yourself. read more
