In this day and age, with deals at your fingertips and outlet malls everywhere, it's hard to justify going to a store like this and finding something reasonably priced. On the other hand, it's nice to walk in, tangibly be able to touch the goods you want to buy and try them on. I'll always opt to support brick and mortar, even if it's a chain. Vans has done a great job of curating a collection of clothing that is fashionable for all ages. It certainly is a style that fits in well in SLO. What once was thought of as the "skater's" store (and still is, in a sense), has expanded its horizons. I saw a number of shirts I would like and was greeted by a helpful employee. I couldn't justify the cost, but I suppose my mind could be swayed if it were something I really wanted. You just never know when you enter a retail store on a whim. read more

I've been to a few Vans stores in my life, and generally like the experience enough that I prefer it to shopping online. This store is everything the others are not: Very, very cramped, so that only one person can be in the aisles at a time. A complete lacking of any customer service. Kind of hard to tell the customers from who works there, and I could only see employees behind the register. The prices on the Classics and 2014 models are exactly the same as anywhere else. 0% discount for being in the outlet. Prices on "clearance" models (bizarre colors, textiles, and styles) are $30 - $50. There is no real space to sit down, try on, and look at pairs of shoes. If the place has more than 5 people shopping in it, it's overcrowded. I realize that all my negative feelings were only further exacerbated by a mother relentlessly screaming at her 12- and 8-year-old sons the ENTIRE time I was in there (yes, she even mentioned their ages in her endless tirade). Given prices and selection, I think I'm better off shopping online. If you're looking for discounted clothing and don't mind shoving around a bit, this is your store. read more

Wishing I could use a 0. The blonde girls are nice but the two guys at the register suck. Tried using Apple Pay and I was like it's your system and they were like nope it's your card. These aren't busy shoe stores like you might find in SF or LA. There's usually only 1 or 2 shoppers there. Stopped in here on the way back down south for some killer deals on shoes. Decided that it's time for a couple new pairs of "casual Fridays" shoes and some socks. I ended up with two pairs of shoes, two packs of black ankle socks (six total pairs of socks), and two pairs of sunglasses. My grand total was a little over $100, not a bad deal for everything I got. The deal they had going on when I dropped in was buy one pair of regular shoes (outlet price) and get a pair of already marked down shoes for half off. The glasses were marked down and I believe I got an extra discount there. No idea on the socks. Overall, good store, good location, and good prices. read more

Came in today to exchange shoes and shop to use my $25 vans bucks coupon, and was sadly dissatisfied with my service. The man who helped me was rude and seemed bothered that it took time to help me. First we did the exchange, and that went fine. Then we went to purchase the rest of the things that I picked up, and that's where things went wrong. He scanned everything and then the coupon (which didn't successfully scan) and told me my total, I argued the price because I knew the coupon didn't work and it should have been less even without the coupon. He told me I was wrong and that everything was correct. After a couple more minutes of arguing he got the coupon to work and it was still too high and he discovered that one of the hats I had was marked as $10, but was actually $20. He wouldn't honor the marked price like he should have. After deciding not to buy the hat, I had to add things to meet the minimal threshold to use the coupon, he did the same thing again. Adding those things ended up being the same price as the expensive hat, but I didn't want to deal with him anymore, so I didn't say anything. He scanned the coupon and acted like it worked, even though it didn't. Once he finally got it to work, I left, not happy. Worst customer service! Had grabbed a reg slip on $35, size 4 shoes in women's location and when my daughter asked for a size up was given a size 5 with no price tag. Clerk "FAILED" to tell us that it was a price difference. Was notified at the register about it. When I showed her that the original shoes, which were placed back by clerk in same section, were kids and that's why it was a $15 difference. Did not honor the price of the original shoes nor even a freakin' apology or even taking the original shoes back to right section!!! read more

This store is clean and well stocked! Outlets tend to have that left over feel but this one doesn't! Plus the entire staff is super helpful. There was this one dude with long blonde hair was telling me about his hat collection, he was the one who ended up helping us and I can say has a retail manager he is exceptional at his job. read more

Went to get some Christmas shopping done for the kids, I asked a guy(with a wanna be man bun) for a size and he told me they didn't have it. I asked another girl who was working for the same thing and she was able to find it for me no problem. Guy must've been to busy on his phone to look for what I needed. He seemed to have his attention elsewhere not very professional. Bad customer service on his part! That was just the first thing. Second, horrible layout of the store. As soon as I walked through the doors I basically run into a table of shirts. Very cluttered and unorganized in there. I've been to other vans stores before and they were nothing like this one.
