Located downtown under the parking garage where the old Sports Authority used to be, Shoe Palace offers an assortment of shoes, apparel, and other gear. This is the only place in SLO I know of that sells retro Jordan's. They've got plenty of shoes ranging from runners basketball shoes sports casuals skateboarding shoes and more. They didn't have the specific shoes I was looking for but they had a very good selection. According to the employees, this is the biggest shoe palace in California. Went in fully prepared to buy shoes and was looking specifically at Nikes. I found a few I liked and just then a salesperson walked up...awesome. I asked to try on the shoes and stated that I am a size 11 in women's Nike. I was promptly told that there were no 11s. Every shoe I selected was not available in that size. The salesperson pointed out that they don't stock 10.5 or 11s in women's shoes because "that is larger than what the average woman wears"...wow, I didn't know they only sold to average sized women. I went in with my 2 young children on the Friday afternoon before school started to get them some new shoes. When I entered, a girl in uniform said hello to is. We said hi and waved. We went over to the ju_ior shoe area (the n was missing), and waited for someone to help us. My daughter picked out a display shoe that she liked, and asked me if she could try it on. I said I think so, and we continued to wait. 7 year olds dont have the most patience, so I took the shoe to the front, and waited in line at the register. A Male associate walked by, talking on the store phone to someone about how he would text them later, and they could meet up. After a few moments we got called to the second register. The kid asked if he could help me, and I told him my daughter wanted to try on some shoes. He asked what size, I told him I didn't know ( I didn't). My daughter said it was a 9. He returned with a box of size 9 and a box of size 10. I said thank you. As she was trying on the 9's, my son showed up with a display shoe that he wanted to try on. I asked him to sit next to me with it, and we'd get him a pair to try in a minute. By now 2 things were becoming clear: 1. The 9's were too small for my daughter, and 2. Nobody was coming back to help us. We put the 9's back in the box, she tried on the 10's and not only did they fit, but she also liked them. Hooray! Still no help. We put the 10's back in the box. Still no help. At this time. I told my kids we were leaving. I also told them that they shouldn't have to chase people around to give them their money. We won't be back. read more

Good customer service but in the end the shoes rang up at way more than the price on the box and show but they weren't able to get it to that price because the computer system wouldn't allow them to go more than 20% off. Even though the agreed and knew the price in the system was wrong. They even asked if I'd be ok with paying more for the shows because the system wasn't letting them give it for the price advertised. So I walked away from two pairs of shoes and socks because I'm not giving my business to a company that does a switch and bait at the register. I don't really think it was the people working be registers fault. I think the main company keeps even the managers from making adjustment to the system which is lame. read more

I had the BEST shoe buying experience! Someone greeted me at the door, and introduced me to someone who walked me to the shoes I was interested in. After finding the shoe I wanted- a shoe that no one else I town or on line had!!!-, another employee immediately asked if I'd like some help. They quickly retrieved the size I needed, and directed me to the cash register. I was in and out in less than five minutes!!! I love this store. Everyone was so friendly and helpful. Normally I would never do this but I am so frustrated with my experience today. Never again will I EVER shop at this store. The prices NEVER match the shoes and the manager is a jerk. We tried on shoes that were marked $49.00 and they rang them up for $89.00!!!!!! The manager said he could sell them to us for $69.00 because there was a similar shoe in the same color! He didn't even Offer to go look for the shoe himself or ask the lovely salesgirl working the kids section. The price was on the shoe and on the shoe box. learn to use the computer dude.
