Nice, SMALL Pub. Very cozy, close quarters yet it seemed like quite a few people managed to get inside! It was open Mic night, and I was there to see friends perform and I spoke with everyone when it dawned on me I hadn't gotten anything to drink! The bartender was attentive to notice me standing there shortly after I walked up to the bar even though he was busy and he had my rum and coke in short order! I really thought this could become my new neighborhood spot, but there were too many problems. The good: the decor is pretty nice. Love the dark wood and the classic Chicago vibe to the place. They also have a decent beer list and cocktail selection. The cons: They love Ohio. I mean love it. Also, the music is WAY too loud. For a place that has about enough dance room for four people, they blast the music like you're at MTV spring break. Just a neighborhood bar. Enjoyable but nothing to write home about. Except this one thing: The bouncers. One night I was enjoying some adult beverages when I told a very animated story. As a result, during a very large and necessary hand gesture, my ring flew off my hand. I was instantly bumbed. However, the bouncer cleared people away from the area when the ring landed and scouted the floor with a small flashlight. He eventually found it. He is awesome. I am grateful. I had heard of Vaughan's before because of my alma mater's alumni society, but my first time there was for the Bulls/Cavs playoff game on a Tuesday evening. It was great being surrounded by other Cleveland fans in the Windy City, and the prices for the specials were hard to beat. $6 dishes and $3.75 pints for the beers of the day. All of this I appreciated, but apparently Tuesday's are THE WORST days to go to Vaughan's if you want a meal. The waitress, when taking our orders, explained that their deliveries come on Wednesdays, so by Tuesday's they're running low on stock for certain dishes. That's all fine, but 15-20 minutes after I ordered she came out to say they were also out of what I had ordered. I ended up waiting close to an hour for a pizza that I could have made in a my oven in a quarter of the time. Granted, it was only $6... But by the time it was delivered I was hangry as could be. It should not go without mentioning, however, that the waitress was running a one woman production. She was bar tending and waitressing easily 50 sports fans completely solo, and she was as attentive as one could be with such a crowd. I just wish I could say the same for whoever was in the kitchen. Although if it was the waitress, than she's a triple threat; nevertheless, Vaughan's should really consider hiring some extra help for the poor gal. read more

Love it! My boyfriend and his friends ALWAYS go to Vaughans.. Vaughans Pub is a stop on the way home from going out on a Friday or Saturday night. Really chill and relaxed and completely unpretentious little bar. No one looks at you funny when you stroll in to the bar in your workout clothes...all the same when you're dolled up for the night. The bartender Andy makes the absolute BEST bloody marys I have ever had....and I've had a lot, they're my favorite! Be warned, a bloody that you previously thought was amazing will taste like pee after drinking Andy's bloody mary! My best friend and I had been going in every week for a few months for a couple drinks. Unfortunately, due to schedule changes at work we stopped going as often. And even when it had been months since we had been in Andy still remembered us and our drink/pizza order!! Also, there's a fantastic girl that bartends there as well (I'm such a jerk I can't remember her name right now), and if you are lucky enough to be there on open mic night you just might hear her sing! I just got home from Vaughan's. On Mondays they allow people to guest bartend and donate half the proceeds to a non-profit/fundraising cause. Tonight they had $3 Blue Moons and $5 pizzas. The pizzas were tasty. And Blue Moons are never disappointing. I'm a fan of places that give back to the community in some way. For your enjoyment, they have lots of board games to keep you occupied and will turn the channel on any of the TVs to keep you happy. The bar is low-key and convenient to the brown line (probably also the red line). Fun, unpretentious dive. I recommend giving them your business. I'll be back here on a weekend during the day to give their bloody mary a go. read more

One of my old favorite bars, the staff here is great especially on a slow weekday when you can cozy up to the bar and relax. Went back a few weeks ago with friends and it was a bit too crowded on a Friday ... people there werent really my cup of tea, but i surivived so i could drink all the yummy beer. I rarely get here anymore, but when I do I have a mixture of emotions. "Pre" me living downtown my friend's lived in a coach house, a quick walk to Vaughan's, and we'd go there to play Euchre or throw some money in the Juke. I like the specials and the Strongbow Cider, which slowly creeps up on you and then WHAM! you wake up in your boxers with a hangover and 3 empty boxes of Chicago's (right up the street) sliced deep dish. They have good sandwiches. One of the bartenders doubles at The Mystic Celt which Vaughan's owns or they own Vaughan's. I don't know, semantics I guess. My only problem is that when it gets crowded, you feel like you're on 290E heading into the city right where the Mannheim starts and that last Left exit on Austin or Harlem or whatever it's called. That and when the music is jacked ALL THE WAY UP SO YOU HAVE TO SHOUT TO YOUR BUDDY WHO'S 8" AWAY FROM YOU SO HE CAN HEAR. Am I writing a Cingular dropped call commercial? I digress. I came here to see Mike Tatum, their acoustic musician that plays on Friday nights. He was really good, and if it wasn't for him the bar wouldn't even have had half the people they had that day. Overall, I was not impressed with Vaughan's and would not come here to grab a drink. Service was non existant even early on in night when there was literally no one in the bar yet. The entire time we were there, and we were there with a larger group for 5 hours, no one came up to serve our table, NOT EVEN ONCE. You had to go up to the bar if you wanted anything and when we ordered 10 shots we had to bring them back to the table our selves. The only girl bartender that was "working" that night was sitting behind the bar or at one of the front tables. Really unattentive staff. read more

Vaughan's is great. The bartenders are the best. My volleyball team was sponsored by Vaughan's last summer and they were so good to us. We would come in every Wednesday with 5-12 people, and the bartenders were always able to keep an accurate tab running for us, and separate it for people as they left. And no, I don't mean they printed it out and we figured it out. They knew who had what. All night. They are the best. They also offer sandwiches from Panes down the street, and they are heaven. The other reason I like Vaughan's is because it is just a low key neighborhood place. None of the crazy college kids that some of the other bars in the area have. It is a fun place to spend time with friends, and actually be able to hear what they are saying. Did I mention they have great specials, and most nights my tab for several beers and a sandwich was under $20? read more

Best bar in Chicago...no, the World. Hands down. Great employees and management. The bouncer, Albert, is a mix between Chuck Norris and Liam Neeson. Bartenders are fantastic. Everything on their food menu is $6, and they have great pizza. They play great music and the clientele usually keeps to themselves. One gripe - they don't sell merchandise. There's certainly potential to have a good night at Vaughan's. It's a nice bar with a reasonable beer selection and competent staff. It's hit or miss with the clientele. The bar's proximity to Mad River and Kirkwood can mean significant runoff from those places, and you don't want to be anywhere nearby when mouth breathing OSU fans are having a gamewatch. God bless them, though; they can spell out their state's name and form the letters with their arms at the same time. Take Vaughan's off this stretch of Sheffield and it would still be a very serviceable bar. I'll reward them for that. Went here on a Monday night for a superchill drink and couldn't have had a friendlier bartender. He was welcoming and good to talk to as well. My friend and I had a really nice time chatting here and ended up having 3 or 4 instead of just the 1 drink as desired. Whenever I walk by on Thursday or Friday nights, the place is way more hopping and I have been wanting to try it out and see what the crowd is like... it seems like it might be a bit more mature but still fun than the other bars down the Sheffield strip. read more

We were visiting Chicago during the OSU/Northwestern game and decided what better place to watch the game than a local Ohio bar?! I liked the vibe of this place - kind of divey, kind of gritty, kind of Irish, no frills. It was pretty busy by the time we got there but we somehow scored a tiny table in the corner by the bar and TV. Needless to say, it got so crowded I never really left our little table and didn't really get to experience the rest of the bar. I thought the beer selection was a bit weak and they only had one cider on tap (maybe I was lucky they had one at all). Prices were typical for a bar like this, about $4.25 for domestic bottles. Cocktails ran about $7.50 and up, again, typical for a low-key bar. The bartender wasn't overly friendly or memorable, but I'm sure she was hustlin' all night long so I don't blame her. My favorite part of this bar was probably the giant OU Bobcats flag hanging above the bar. OU OH YEAH! read more

I came to Vaughan's after the best Ohio State victory, beating that team up north, that I dare not mention. I went by once before and saw the team flags for Cleveland & Columbus, and I had to go in and take a look. I got there about 45 minutes after the game was over, and only a couple of fans remained. So, I sat down and had a celebratory beer (and I'm not a beer drinker). The pub is deeper than you would think judging from the outside, if you've never seen it. wooden furniture, wood floors, and a good sized bar to your right as you walk in, in a L Shape, seats, 12-15 if I can count? They have a handful of TV's, and various memorabilia from Ohio sports teams for those of us reminiscing or missing home. This is a great place to frequent. I haven't tried their pub food (yet) so I can't rate that, obviously, but I can say the Great Lakes Christmas Ale went down quite smoothly as I felt a connection to my roots. read more

Wow, what a great find in a neighborhood filled with college bars! We ended up stopping in Vaughn's just because we just so happened to be in the neighborhood. The bartender couldn't believe that we live in Lincoln Park and had never been in. It was a Wednesday night and there was only one other girl there (on her laptop) when we walked in. Vaughn's definitely has that "warm and cozy Irish bar feel". Candles lit everywhere, lots of dark wood which fills many Irish bars, fun Halloween decorations, fireplace, friendly bartender, and a good selection of Irish Whiskey on the back bar. We ended up talking to two bartenders, both were very attentive and fun to talk to. Tim was happy to find out that this is an OSU bar and the bartender told us that they get "The nice OSU fans, unlike McGee's". I'm going to assume that she meant the more mature crowd, but compared to McGee's what isn't!? We were also told that they were owned by the same group who owns Corcoran's which is like our "Reagle Beagle" being that it's right down the block from us. A one man band came in later on and we enjoyed listening to live music but not having to scream over it. Vaughn's doesn't have food (well, I think they have pizzas), but you could order and have it delivered. I would certainly go back to Vaughn's. Just be forewarned, because it's so "homey" it's real easy to drink a ton! After some good conversation, live music, and quite a few Delerium Tremmens bottles we were definitely feeling no pain when we left! But, I guess that's what Irish bars are all about! read more

Stumbled in here after leaving the L&L after some heavy drinking. The bartender, Rob, was very nice (because he's from Iowa). He gave us some weird shot, though. Chocolate chip cookie? Anyway, they had this amazing pizza that happened to be half price. So, that was a definite score. We were there late enough that I didn't notice any douchey people, as there tend to be up in that area. Overall, if I find myself in that neighborhood, I'd go back. What a revelation this place was. Sometimes all you want is a "chill" bar to actually spend some quality down time with your friends. Many bars try, but don't come close. I expected Vaughan's to be the same, considering the bars it is surrounded by. We ended up going here by accident after another bar was full, and ended up pleasantly surprised. I was a big fan of the atmosphere (lit candles, intimate but not too cramped layout), the BOARD GAMES, and Great Lakes beers on tap. Exactly what I wanted at the time. I really like this bar to watch Cleveland sports, and have a few beers, but I have found that it's not the bar food that I'm looking for while watching games. Nice interior and good prices/deals, just typically seem understaffed. I would still recommend for any Cleveland sports fans! read more

Ahhhhh good old Vaughan's, been coming here since I was of age. Great place, the bartenders are always great. If you are waiting longer than expected, that is probably because it is crowded due to the spillover effect from the awful bars around the area. It is always a good sign that this bar has remained the same, under the same ownership, while the surrounding bars have changed names/owners dozens of times over the past 10+ years. They've improved/expanded their menu now, so there is plenty of choice (get a panini btw) and have great daily food/drink specials. And if all else fails, the pizzas are always a nice staple. I've come here a few times, yet like Kristin C, I keep forgetting about this place. Perhaps because it is located by Mad River and Kirkwood which are usually filled with college kids or just post college kids... that just gives me the hebbie jebbies, that's the shivers to you. The food is surprisingly not bad, the pizza is decent, though certainly not ground breaking, the sandwiches are good, (though they come with chips from a bag, not so exciting), the prices are fine for the food and drinks. They have a decent variety of beers, but not a selection my jaw would drop at. However it doesn't seem to draw the college kids in that much... thank the freakin' world. So expect a neighborhood feel, some decent food and a cold beer to go with the game, but beyond that.... nothing too exciting. read more

Pretzels were Superpretzels and chips with the crab dip were Staceys Pita chips and the pizza was super soggy and reminded me of a pizza from the freezer section(btw supposed to be supreme and only had sausage and cheese).
