Traditional little Irish bar; located on Webster in Lincoln park. Stopped in to watch some of the bears game the other day, they had a good amount of TVs on both sides of the bar. Seems like it had a group of regulars coming in. Decent enough beer selection, and a few food options. Not a huge indoor section but a pretty big patio out back for when it's nice out. It's no frills, but it gets the job done, especially if you're looking for something more low key and cheaper compared to most of Lincoln Park. read more

I cannot even come up with the words to describe what a terrible experience my friends and I had at this place.... But I will try: A group of about six adults walked into this mostly empty bar around midnight on a Saturday (they close at 2 AM, we were going to grab a nightcap and go home). The creepy bartender stared us down, it was clear from the moment we walked in, for whatever reason, we were not welcome. The bartender then proceeds to point at my 26 year old female friend and say "watch how fast I can kick you out." Since we were all stunned and confused, one of my male friends responded "I'm sorry, is there an issue or something we did wrong?" And the bartender goes "don't try to a white knight, I'm talking to YOU" and continues to single out this young woman in our group. It was the most bizarre experience I have ever had at any bar I've ever been to. We all politely left to avoid any further conflict but it was the most aggressive unprompted behavior that actually felt dangerous. Do not go here, it's a hostile and unsafe space! read more

I'm 22 and the server denied me because "I looked young" that's fine. But I have never been spoken to like that by a man. I cannot believe how disrespectful and disgusting this employee was. From the looks of things this is an old seen better days Irish pub that can still get a crowd. It helps that it's near DePaul. Kelly's Pub brings in drunken students as well as many other local regulars. Even though it's been around a long time it still has plenty of good reasons to come in. The prices are good for most things, plenty of beers and cocktails, and plenty of greasy bar food stuff. After going around to a few museums in the area we came here. It was already kind of hopping in the afternoon, although it's a pretty small bar so it won't take much to get crowded inside. This is one of those bars that are well worn: you can tell by looks, and smell. Of course it's an Irish pub so get something Irish. There's a pretty good selection. It's about $8 for Irish whiskeys like Paddy's. The food is pretty basic though. About the usual basics for a bar. It's about $6 for tater tots. Food is mostly meaty stuff like burgers. The wings are also popular. Good place to get some Irish drinks and maybe something to eat. It has pretty good prices for around here. This place can get crazy on weekends. read more

I really hate to make this review, because I usually love Kelly's and have a good time there, but this was so frustrating and I feel I should warn others so this doesn't happen to them. Last night I was trying to pick up my tab and leave when I was informed that my card was nowhere to be found behind the bar. I checked my bank account and it had been closed and logged as a transaction but I had not been the one to do it. So basically the bartender gave my card and tab to some random, which is totally not ok! I then began to get sad and the staff was very dismissive, telling me I was bringing down the vibe and that I should leave/they have to get back to the bar to serve customers. It was really upsetting and disappointing, as they did not really seem to care about their mistake, apologize, or offer amends. Losing a customer's card is not okay!! That should not be normal, and they should have taken it much more seriously. I now have to cancel the card for a mistake that I did not make, and it left me feeling really terrible overall. I don't know how this mistake happened but it should never happen again, and I am really disappointed as a longtime customer. read more

This is a mandatory stop on every trip I take to Chicago. It was fairly empty on a Wed night, so we got the prime corner by the front window. (I wish they had hooks under there bar for your purse, but the isn't that kind of place). NOTE TO OWNER: put them in (it is a low cost high impact improvement) - girls will love it!!! Dustin let a guy stand next to me for 20 minutes without serving him, while I was helped right away. It was clearly not about efficiency--just blatant favoritism. Because of how unfair and rude he was to the other customer, I gave him a small tip (literally 5 cents), and in response, he crushed a drink in my hand. I wish I were exaggerating. Prices are amazing, food is awesome, and the service is always great. It is first and foremost a bar so it is relatively sparse in food offerings compared to other pubs but everything I've had is great. I look forward to returning very soon read more

AWFUL. If i could give this place one star I would! Went to this place for the first time last night and had the WORST customer service ever. we were sitting towards the end of the bar and couldn't get the bartenders attention. my boyfriend waved at the bartender but not in a rude way. the bartender came over, but instead of taking our orders he said to never fucking wave at him again and that we should leave the bar if we don't stop doing that. we were shocked at first, we couldn't even believe a bartender would be so nasty for no reason. big bald white guy, reason enough for me to never go back. read more

I had one of the worst services here, me and my sister had just turned 22 and we decided to stop by for some drinks, right when we got there some manager ( some bald headed guy) told the bartender not so serve us cause he assumed we were underage. Kelly's Pub has been one of my favorite Chicago staples since college. When a friend had his bachelor party last weekend (following covid rules), Kelly's was a must to incorporate. We ordered 100 wings and a tray of fries and they did not disappoint. Tasted as delicious and fresh as if we were sitting in the bar. The food was so good that a few of us were eating it the next morning for breakfast as well. If you have a larger party and are unable to sit outside the bar following covid rules, I highly recommend having Kelly's cater your party. read more

The bartenders at this bar made it a HORRIBLE experience, old guy and young guy back there, so so so rude, condensing, down right horrible. Old guy screamed at my friend, had attitude when we asked for help. I just can't believe how we were treated there. Young guy also had attitude when we asked him a simple question, they were so unhelpful. WE are never going back there again and didn't deserve the way they were treating us. I am telling everyone not to go here, based on the other reviews, it seems this is a pattern of behavior among the people that work there. read more

Hands down the greatest corned beef sandwich I've ever had. It was so delicious it made me forget that I had been drinking malort all night. Or maybe the malort had made me forget I was drinking malort. Regardless, I didn't forget about this sandwich and I never will. Only downside was there was a couple that looked like brother and sister making out aggressively by the corned beef window so it made it tough to go back for seconds. Cant fault Kelly's for that though, it was Saint Patrick's day after all. Five stars. read more

We visited Kelly's Pub last night for post dinner drinks. In a party of four, we were seated immediately at a tall table and waited on instantly. The bartender was quick, efficient, and friendly which added to the quality of the environment which was full of happy people. They had their televisions set to different football games, and at the end of the night they switched over to music. Three rounds of drinks for four people didn't break the bank either, stayed just under $100. Enjoy! read more

How is it that I had never heard of this place before this weekend and their 75th anniversary party? Surely someone should have told me that there was an Irish bar in town that borders on authentic, that the people who frequent the place have more stories than dots on a domino, and that the bartenders take it all in stride- no matter what. I guess Kelly's Pub is a bit of a legend. It has been featured in movies (one of my 80's favorites -About Last Night) it has a huge footprint (the outside beer garden is bigger than the interior of the place) and it has been owned by the same family forever. This weekend, they showed their love for their patrons by offering 75 cent drinks (unbelievable!) and even offered a free buffet of bar food. i talked to more people (the regulars) and just hearing them spin their tales about the good times they have had in this bar made me smile. You know it's a real neighborhood joint when the patrons can wax poetic about "I remember this time when . . .". and two others within earshot finish the story. The bartenders were great. They remembered my drink order and even though I wasn't a "regular", they treated my like one. Part of the ambiance is the rumbling of the El overhead about every 10 minutes. The good news? If you find yourself talking to someone and need a way out- just wait. The El will take care of you. Friendly bartenders, "regulars" that don't cop an attitude about new people and prices that are reasonable. I may never have heard of the place before yesterday- but now it will be hard to forget. read more

I've been to Kelly's before and had a great time, tonight was not the case. I very rarely leave reviews, and I am in the food service industry myself and know how a hectic night can be, but still, it's no excuse for being rude. Legitimately the worst service i've ever received at any establishment. Sat at the bar closest to the front door and a big bald man saw my friend and I looking his way for an order multiple times, nothing. Moved towards the registers to try to get the other bartenders attention, stood there for another 15 minutes while other patrons were served. After receiving a nasty look from the big bald bartender, the other bartender walked passed and when I asked if I could order a drink, he said "I can't take your order." I would understand blatantly ignoring a customer if they were drunken, belligerent, obnoxious idiots, but this was my first stop of the night and I was none of those things. I'm just disappointed more than anything, took my business elsewhere. read more

Came here on a Friday evening and was so happy with the experience. Kelly's is a small bar with limited indoor seating but they do have an outdoor patio area. The only downside is that every now and then the L train passes by and stops all conversation. Drinks are affordable for the area and food is crazy cheap. This is a must go to. read more

Kelly's Pub - A quality pub of the Lincoln Park area that deserves the Blue Demon Logo - Pubs Near Me - Chicago, Illinois

A great old bastion of Chicagoland drinkery. With 75 years of history, Kelly's has been here -- and run by the same family -- for longer than you've been alive. And barring some douchery by the city or greed by the Kelly kids, it will be here long after you're gone. Yes, it's right in the middle the DePaul neighborhood, but that's DePaul's fault, not Kelly's. And unlike many of the bars in the area, this one doesn't cater to the kids. Come in most nights and you'll see a wide mix of patrons, from old guys who practically have bar stools growing out of their asses to youngsters learning the fine art of civilized drinking. I was here recently for their 75th anniversary party, and there were partiers of all ages. (Though I must admit, primarily of one race.) Kelly's is an isle of permanence in a neighborhood of transition. About that anniversary party, which went on for two days: 75 cent beers and well drinks, and a great spread of free food. Mini-burgers, wings, chicken tenders, meatballs, quesadillas. And when that ran out, improvised ham sandwiches, just to be sure everyone was fed. They literally gave the house away. (They started running out of well liquor by Sunday evening.) And why? Because Kelly's truly appreciates their regulars. Thus the fifth star. Two tidbits about Kelly's: 1) In addition to being featured in "About Last Night," it also served as a major location in the short-lived Shelley Hack series "Jack & Mike." 2) I have a great story about Kelly's that ends with the line, "Shut the fuck up." Admittedly, I came here with only one intention: to escape the mayhem at McGee's across the street on Super Bowl Sunday. So, my expectations were somewhat low. We walked into Kelly's and were greeted with genuine smiles and capital GASP-- a table. Unlike the "reserved" tables at Kincaid's and McGee's, this one was all ours. I couldn't believe it-- 30 minutes 'till game time and we snagged our own table! Tiny as all hell, but plenty of room for the two of us. Star #1! We needed fortification for the long night of drinking ahead. After ordering a round of Miller Lites (I think they were $2 each-- star #2!), I inquired about seeing a menu. The darling curly-haired bartender (oh my am I a sucker for ringlets) says, "you know what-- we're getting ready to serve a buffet... and it's free. So give it a few minutes before placing your order." Okay-- did I hear you correctly? Free buffet? And we were willing to pay for food? At that moment Kelly's earned star #3. They bring out the food, and man is it good. Some type of cheesy layer dip, chicken fingers, wings, sandwiches... WOW. And guess what? It's actually great bar food. And they replenished the spread too! At this point, a couple of older men (by older, I'm not talking Viagra Triangle on-the-prowl lothario old, I'm talking full-on grandpa sweethearts) come by to chat us up. SO charming! They insisted on buying us a couple rounds, and why not? Insert star #4. We had so much fun that we accidentally ignored the pair of viable (and cute!) contenders vying for our attention at the bar. Well, maybe they weren't vying for our attention, but... it makes for compelling fodder. And for the piece de resistance... our new friends gave us free Super Bowl/Miller Lite t-shirts! Perfect for the gym. Star #5! Definitely consider giving Kelly's a shot. And listen to the patrons' stories if they're telling... tons of interesting history (and framed photos) behind the family that owns Kelly's. We were invited back for "choir practice" on Wednesday nights-- I'm going! Oh, and our total tab for the most super Sunday ever? $12. read more

I don't know if anyone has been fortunate enough to catch a little Chicago flick called "About Last Night". Oh c'mon, Demi Moore and Rob Lowe?!? The not-as-funny Belushi and that chick from Big? Pure. 80's. Gold. Not only do you get to see a Rob Lowe bum shot, Kelly's Pub also makes an appearance. I like this bar - but only if I get to sit outside. GREAT people watching (It's right across from McGee's!!!) and $7.50 Miller Lite buckets on Sundays. Scha-weet. The food is pretty decent - nothing phenomenal but nothing to sneeze at either. Whoa! It's been over two years since I wrote that review of Kelly's Pub. Ah...memories!! In that two years, Kelly's has become a regular stop for me. I come at least once or twice a month (which is a lot considering that I don't live in the area!) The bartenders are fabulous. The selection of beer is great, although I stick to cider and mixed drinks these days. The pub grub is yummy and a great value. Yep, I'm still a huge fan. My rule of thumb with Kelly's Pub is "leave by midnight." That is when the regulars get pushed out and the young college kids who didn't want to wait in line at McGee's come in. No thank you. I like my Kelly's Pub during the day when you can chat with just about anyone from the city from 30 year old man who still loves frat parties to a crusty old 70 year old who has led an interesting life. You can be surrounded by wedding goers one minute and the next minute an Irish funeral party rolls in. Everyone mixes, everyone mingles, everyone enjoys themselves, and the drinks flow. read more
