Going here for the World Cup games is quickly becoming very iconic and fun!! Started with a Brazil game a week ago and it was decently busy inside. We got a seat outside on the side patio and they split our table (table of 4, there were only two of us) to fit more people in which was alright. Went back yesterday for the America game and wow. We got there 2 hours early, managed to get a table outside again, and by the time we were ordering a drink there was a line around the block to get inside. Standing room only inside, patio was PACKED. There were 3 of us at a 4 person table, and before the game the owner / manager ? Asked us if they could sit two people with us on the corner of our table. Obv said yes and made some friends! The food I've had is decent, and everything is pretty decent priced. The first time we went, we got 5-6 drinks split between us and two apps, our total wasn't more than $80 before tips. We've only had the pretzel, chips, and fries, all pretty decent for the price and amount. wait staff is so nice, definitely getting overwhelmed with the World Cup traffic but never felt abandoned / ignored which for how busy, is great. Will be going back for more games this summer! read more

We stopped here for drinks on the way to the cubs game. Service was a little slow but they were busy for a premiere league that morning. The beer selection seemed good but I got an espresso martini for the morning. It was perfectly frothy and had a nice coffee flavor. I could have had a few more! I thought the branded beer mugs from the different draft options was a nice touch. Staff was very welcoming and friendly. The GM is a great guy as well. Let me tell you guys about A.J Hudson's! Sports bar with amazing food, a little expensive but it's consistently good. The atmosphere is welcoming and fun. They have indoor and outdoor seatings its on a nice quiet block on Ashland just before Irving park, there's always a fair amount of people here but it's never overcrowded. The waitress was amazing, consistently checking in, making sure our water was replenished and asking if we needed refills on our drinks. On our visit there this week. My friend got the bacon French onion grilled cheese ($17) we shared the chicken wings - Mild flavored ($17) and I got the chicken tenders W/ Nashville hot dipping sauce, and bbq) ($14) The mild chicken wings are so good, the chicken is juicy and the flavor is strong. The chicken tenders are chicken tenders I mean but that Nashville hot sauce is something different, I don't know how they do it but I'm addicted. My friend said the bacon French onion grilled cheese was the best grilled cheese they've ever had. Overall great experience as usual With all the food and two cocktails (one each) our bill came out to $79 pre tip which isn't terrible but is a little up there in terms of price but for the quality of food and service it's worth it. read more

AJ Hudson's is a small sports bar and was very packed when we went on a Thursday night. The place is so small you're basically seated next to other patrons when you have a table. I do think the service was superb and we were well attended to despite it being packed. The food itself was very below average, I ordered a chicken sandwich here and the chicken patty was so small and flavorless it reminded me of my middle school lunch days except those sandwiches were 2 bucks compared to the 15 bucks here. My friend also ordered a lamb naan here that frankly looked like it came from a kids menu as the portions were so lacking--not to mention that we both felt a bit sick after. Have been frequenting AJ Hudson's pretty frequently due to the fact they're one of the few bars that play the CONMEBOL qualifiers of all The South American teams. As far as soccer bars go, no shade to other bars that claim they are, AJs has been the most consistent in playing the games they claim they will play. If you like watching Peru play we usually pull up here. I've eaten the wings and they honestly are pretty good, especially for just a sports bar. They have a lot of beers on tap And a broad offering. We're in town for a birthday celebration, so we sought out the "Manchester City" bar to watch the match. We've been before, but today was markedly different. We arrived to multiple supporter groups present for earlier matches. It's odd to me that the bar hosts so many different club groups, but make your money, whatever. We are directed to order a drink at the bar and move to a table when the earlier matches wrap up. We do that, and find a table about 5 minutes later. They don't have any food options for us, so we grabbed bagels on the way. The server comes to the table and says we can't eat them in there. We let them know we're drinking and there's nothing we can eat on the menu, but they still say we can't eat it. Ok, we put them away immediately. No argument, no back and forth. Bagels away. She leaves. Then, the server comes back exactly ZERO times over the next 40 minutes. She passes us by over and over, asking both neighboring tables if they'd like refills on drinks and taking food orders. We were the only table in the row without waters, also never offered. After leaving our table, she put on sunglasses and never looked our way again until... I finally get up to order our 2nd drink from the bar after all that time. She sees me and immediately comes up asking "Oh, do you need something?!" I said no thanks and turned to the bar. She goes to the end of the bar, and suddenly she can see me again! In fact, she's watching me. I see her talk to staff, and they ignore me too until someone sitting at the bar says I'm waiting to place an order. They inform me I have to order with the server. I said I waited 40 minutes and would like to order at the bar. Nope, tab is hers now unless we again move seats. Mind you, she never took a single order from us. No apology for being ignored. No thanks, I'll cash out. We made a special trip here today. Never again. Next time, I'll watch on my phone before patronizing this establishment. read more

So, I have it from at least 2 credible sources that A.J. Hudson's (a.k.a., formerly, as "Ginger's Ale House") renews and maintains at least 2 grand historic traditions: that of English "Public House'' hospitality (whereby all are welcome, including dogs), as well as that of celebrating "the world's game" with all lovers of "the beautiful game", whether domestic, international, or just global. And they do that and more better than any other so called "pub" or "soccer bar". It's the only such place which I can recommend. So I do so sincerely and emphatically-- Prolly cuz it's the only such place I'm willing to go. But then, as confessed above, I only speak from (many years of) experience, and from the kind of simple common sense which guided me to root for Newcastle United (for what seems like decades). read more

Rude manger/ owner at the door using condescending words and cussing. Terrible first impression at the door, sets a bad tone. I went to see the Real Madrid vs Barcelona game and they implemented a $30 minimum for you to stand and watch the game. No where to eat or place your food but yet you had to spend the money. Also they only offered a limited food menu. I gave the waitress $30 after she kept nagging me to order within the first 3 min of walking in for her to leave me alone. I ordered a cup of coffee which was cold/ lukewarm and 1 sprite the entire time and didn't even get a refill. First time going here though I've lived in the general vicinity for a while. My husband and I actually ended up here because we had gone to Uptown Tap only to find the kitchen closed at 8pm (on Sunday). Food looked a little pricey but the fish and chips were incredible! Everything was super fresh tasting and even the peas served with the fish and chips had some kind of herb which made them taste really good. The server (and bartender?) was friendly and attentive to our late Sunday patio seating (and even brought our dog a water bowl). Or if Barbie and I are in attendance, then the Hudson Bae. This is not a bad soccer Pub, and we were able to watch the Liverpool game here and everything was fine - however it wasn't our favorite. There wasn't a lot of room. We managed to find a place to sit and watch, but only because I'm a rude motherf***er and an alpha which is how Barbie likes me and wants me and designed me. So I kind of forced our way in there where there wasn't any space and shared a table with some dudes that clearly hadn't been planning to share a table. At least they got some sexy eye candy during the game. Not that Barbie noticed she was being watched. She was half asleep from our long drive from Columbus the evening before (I did all the driving, she did all the looking hot). Service wasn't altogether great, and some of the other fans were pretty rude towards my girlfriend - probably because of the way she was dressed - but nevertheless she gets a lot of people to be very lovely to her because of the way she's dressed or just because people are nice - so we definitely didn't have much experience of the Midwestern charm going on in here. More like Chicattitude. Parking was an absolute nightmare but I did manage to find some eventually. So I would give them five stars for showing Liverpool but -1 for some of the attitudes and they are a catch-all soccer pub, definitely not Liverpool-centric by any means. Stopped by for lunch and the food was excellent, even better than a month or so ago. Could not believe the freshness, flavor and presentation of the hummus appetizer with the best produce we've seen anywhere in a while. The Nashville hot chicken wings were meaty and flavorful, I like a little more heat but I understand they have to keep it at a milder level for everyone. The blue cheese dressing was also great and almost certainly homemade, with very fresh carrots and celery on the side. The fish and chips tasted great, with again fresh peas and likely homemade tartar sauce--only minor issue was the fish pieces could have been bigger or serve three instead of two. I visited this bar recently and had a poor experience. The man seating us was remarkably rude and condescending, talked to us like we were children which set a negative tone from the start. In the past I've had a server that reeks of cigarette smoke... she needs to work on that. While the food is decent, my overall impression was soured by my last encounter with someone who appeared to be a manager. Unfortunately, this last interaction was so off-putting that I have no intention of returning. Improving the customer service would significantly enhance the overall experience. AJ Hudson's is the greatest. If you're a fan of football (soccer) like I am, this is absolutely the best place to catch the match. They have tons of TVs and show almost any match under the sun. There are teams and leagues that 90% of the world hasn't heard of, but they'll show the match here! The decor is awesome. Lots of wall space has been dedicated to a large number of teams. I am a West Ham United fan, and they definitely cater towards the Irons well here. Fun, fun environment with good staff, great ownership, good food, and cold drinks. I always, always look forward to my mornings at AJ Hudson's. The highlight of any weekend without a doubt. Nice bee garden area, if you can get a seat near the street on Grace. Definitely more of an ambiance place. That said, our neighboring tables had children, dogs, and sometimes both. So go after 8. Service was poor. Fall salad was a generous portion that could easily be split among 3-4 people. The sandwiches were underwhelming. The veggie burger was mushy. It fell apart. I'm very impressed by the staff-- they are kind and patient during all this COVID stuff. I called around looking for an outdoor patio and they let me know that they couldn't save me anything but that a game of some sort had just ended so if I came right away, my group could be seated without waiting. So we zoomed over. I appreciated their helpfulness. However, I'm not entirely convinced that the tables and seating are following the rules of social distancing-- they're pretty close. I like the beer list and my friend Carrie loved the tots nachos, though they could stand to have a few more vegetarian items on the menu. (I don't mind getting salads, but I know quite a few people who aren't eating cold food out during COVID). Very nice overall and cute little bottle of hand sanitizer with the check, too. read more

Came her recently after entering Phase 4 to a very reasonable sized patio with 6 feet social distanced tables. And for an added bonus - TVS! Since reopening it seems that they have redesigned their booze and food menu, and its better then before! Not that there was anything wrong with it, its just more cohesive now and with solid cocktails so you don't have to feel embarrassed about ordering a Paloma from a pub! ;) From the new menu we've ordered the Totchos which are SO BOMB! Not necessarily made with actual Tots but more like potato curly fries if that makes sense? The new and improved Chicken Po Boy sand which is so so so good, highly recommend giving that one a-go. The burger is a classic and so are the buffalo wings which aren't overly sauce and not dry as bone either. Four of us entered strangers' land for the grand FA Cup final game, Arsenal vs. Aston Villa. Game time was 11:30AM but our group "promptly" arrived at 10:00AM. I do admit that we were slightly over the top as we arrived to an empty venue. But the bright side was getting first dibs on finding the best seat for the game. It was early and we were starving. Off the brunch menu, I had the sausage and egg sandwich with provolone cheese. My sandwich was leaking oil as I held it up to take a bite. After several bites, I noticed a puddle of oil on my plate. Yes, we are at a bar and I shouldn't expect my food to be healthy but excessive oil isn't appetizing either. I resorted to soaking up the excess oil with my napkin before continuing with my sandwich. I was a good sport and finished without wasting a single crumb. The breakfast potatoes were a lot better. They came in small bits with a good crisp. Will I return? Great Pub for watching Soccer. However the food left a lot to be desired. Had the "Traditional Fry Up" asked for no potatoes or toast. What I got was insulting. The solitary "tomato" slice was the end of the tomato and you could still see where the stem was cut off. The baked beans were room temperature. The bacon dry and not even warm. The lone sausage was pale and barely looked like it spent any time getting some color. Not sure if the kitchen staff have ever had a real "Full English Fry Up". Really the only time I come to this bar is to watch my Reds kick some butt! But I have been here once for dinner as well. This is the official soccer bar for Liverpool fans and a few other soccer clubs. The atmosphere is an English sports pub with a few British food staples. I had the Hudson Burger when I came for dinner and it's just your average pub food. When I came here last weekend for the Liverpool opener, I had quite a lot of booze and the Chicken N Waffles. The Chicken N Waffles were nothing to write home about, but the breakfast potatoes were solid. I have had their bacon and egg sandwich previously and I would recommend their breakfast sandwiches. It's tough to beat a tall glass of Carlsberg for $4.50 at 6:30 in the morning and the drinks are standard prices for Chicago.
