We took our poodle, Bengie to VCA in 2012. They told us our dog had bladder stones and he needed surgery for removal of the stones. We are snow birds com9ng down from Washington state. We contacted our veterinarian in Puyallup, WA. He agreed, if he has bladder stones, they should be removed. We scheduled the surgery for the stones to be removed and the urethea to be flushed out. We waited at home for the call that she was ready to be picked up. The vet called us and my husband had them talk to me. They were done with the surgery and they did not get the bladder and urethea flushed out. They asked if I wanted to put the dog under again to have them complete this, At that time they informed me that the dog tried to bite them during surgery. I told them I thought she would be asleep during the surgery. They said she was but she still tried to bite them. I did not have them put her back under to finish what they started because of her age. The procedure cost over $2,000. My husband went and picked up the dog. He was crying and was given nothing for pain that night. We returned to Washington four weeks later. The dog was not doing well. Our vet did x-rays. The bladder was full of bladder stones. He said they could not have come back that fast. He redid the surgery for $1100. and gave me a bottle of all of the bladder stones they removed. The dog never fully recovered and died a few months later. I would not recommend this firm for anything. They would not let us see the dog until we had paid the bill in full. I would call the Arizona Veterinary Board do an inquiry into the situation and complain, seriously! Worst animal hospital ever and very unwelcoming and less than compassionate ! Its really a shame that the Cats and Dogs never complain what is really going on in the world! She always took out his bump on his tail . Where they pulled his tooth with several stitches, it is very inflamed and red he has a disease that is littering his tooth and fluids that I paid for $147,00 Its bothering him he keeps opening and closing his mouth over that spot. From the receptionist to the Vet tech Molly and the Veterinarian, they were super professional and truly cared about my dog. I was taking my dog there for grooming. I was told that the dog needed a Bordetella vaccine injection, and they would be happy to do it and then do the grooming. I ask about the cost, I was told 102.00. I said I think that's a little expensive and I wanted to check around. I had the vaccine done by another local vet for 20.00. VCA rates are 500% higher than another local vet. So much for Corporate Veterinarian medicine. read more

The girl at the desk put me in a room and waited to see if someone could help me. As my dog laid on the table motionless, the girl from the front desk said no one could help me and I had to take him to a different hospital. My neighbor came over this past Saturday and was panicked because her cat was giving birth, three kittens already born, but it had been several hours and kitten four was not coming out. I called my vet (not VCA) and she said if it had been more than thirty minutes there was likely a problem. My neighbor sked me if I would take her and her daughter and cat and kittens to the animal hospital. I asked if she had any money and she said if I don't have enough I can surrender the cat and kittens, and although I don't want to, I will to save cat lives. We got to VCA and they called a tech and vet out to look at Tiger Lilly and said they could try to assist her with the birth for a cost of $289 or $589 (with x-ray to see how many kittens remained inside the momma cat). We passed on the $300 x-ray but Mindy didn't have $289. My 72 year old husband pulled out a brand new credit card, activated it and said he would pay the $289. Then the tech came out and said kitten four was really stuck and the vet cannot get it out and a C-section was necessary for an estimated costs of $1,600. When I said "whoa, wait a minute, these are nothhis cats and we can't afford that" the same tech chose that moment to describe to us (including my tween daughter and my neighbor's tween daughter) what happened to the kitten when the vet pulled too hard and that a three limbed kitten was stuck inside the momma cat and if we didn't get it out, she would die. This may all have been true, I don't doubt it, but when $1,600 is your total monthly income, you don't agree to pay $1,600 to save one of your neighbors five female cats...unless you have a lot of money or your emotionally blackmailed. I asked if we could pay the $289 and our neighbor could make payments, I was told no. I explained that I had made payments on the bill for our three legged bunny from a few years prior, and the tech said "we can stop right now and pack up momma and the kittens (with dead kitten missing limb in womb) and you can go to another animal hospital but I don't know if the momma cat will make it." The girls were crying and I was clearly angry and my husband loudly said stop and gave them his card. My daughter was crying running out of the clinic. It was crazy that the tech said what she said in the girls' presence. My husband is 72 years old, hard of hearing and super empathetic to crying children. This tech did what she did and said what she said in a clear effort to get my husband to pay $2,000 and it worked because he is vulnerable. It is sad that any vet takes advantage of a ER situation and an old man and young girls. I was so taken aback I had to leave the clinic. This was ridiculous. My husband was emotionally blackmailed by the tech and her descriptive "limbs being pulled off" statements in the presence of two impressionable kids and he agreed to the $2,000 fee using borrowed funds at a high interest rate at 72 years old . This wasn't money he had in an account anywhere, it was put on a charge card. This was the most unethical manipulation of an old man, kids and desperate situation I have ever witnessed. This was the VCA animal hospital in Apache Junction and the vet's name is DeCozio. I am filing a formal complaint with the Arizona State Veterinary Medical Examining Board and I want everyone to be aware of the manipulative and ruthless conduct. Take care to protect those most vulnerable to financial extortion. Momma cat and the three kittens survived but at what cost? My 72 year old husband is left with a debt he will be paying on for several years to save cats he didn't know for a neighbor he never met. Hope you're proud! read more

So today I took my boxer in to get his shots . Usually I have a really good experience! The lady are always nice and welcoming but once I stepped into the room that's when everything just got weird . Dr. Rich helped us today I have never seen this vet before here . But he just came at me with really mean questions about my dog like I was lying to him that my dog gets weird symptoms when he gets his shots . He then proceeded to give me his opinion which is fine but he said it rudely like I don't want you to go to the emergency room and I rather have you reschedule for Monday . Through all that I was like dude are you going to do it or not . He said he will and I said I rather have him have the pre shot that helps him . He then left for like 10 minutes and came back and still continued to tell me I'm wrong for doing this and blah blah . Omg dude it's my dog ?!? And then after they gave him the shots he told me you can wait outside or even in your case in case something happened and I just said ok . And then he said so we can help and I can record it if it does happen?!?! I'm like wtffff I was in shock and didn't have words after that . read more

The first time I went to VCA AJ Animal Hospital it was just a stab in the dark. I got this beautiful purebred Ragdoll cat that was sick. He had a serious upper respiratory infection and at the cost of almost $200 I was astounded by the cost. I had to wait 1/2 hour to see a vet and once I did she spent 10 minutes and gave me diagnosis that I already knew he had. I had to give him eye drops, ear drops and eye drops on top of antibiotics. I had a free first time visit coupon but it was only good for a well visit check up. When in the hell do you take your cat just because?? Makes no sense...so I needed to schedule my cat for 1 week later for the follow up. This time I waited 45-1hr for a vet to see him. It was a Wednesday and I was told that vets do their surgeries on Wednesdays so it's very crazy on Wednesdays. The vet tech kept checking to see if the vet was coming to see my cat and she never did see him. Based on how well my cat was doing, the vet tech said the vet told her it was all good and I could go. WHAT??? I waited almost 1 1/2 hrs to NOT SEE A VET? OH MY... I scheduled another appointment for today, 9/13/2016 because I saw a small hot spot on my cats left back foot and I wanted it checked out. I got there 15 minutes early (their recommendation) and I waited and waited. The front desk called the vet up for the appointment twice and she never came. I just walked out and said my cat is in distress from waiting and I am not going to make him worse just because this place DOES NOT CARE - all the bad reviews are ACCURATE! All they care about is the almighty dollar. I plan to write a formal complaint with the state Veterinarian Board for neglect at this so called Animal Hospital. If you love your animals - DO NOT GO HERE - If you do not believe me, keep reading the other reviewers. I got out early and I am so happy I left. My dog doesn't like strangers. In fact, he scares everyone who comes to my house with his barking and growling. He is also big and looks mean. That being said, the nice staff at VCA don't seem to mind and he doesn't seem to have a problem with them either. That in itself, is an accomplishment. I take him here for all of his shots and check-ups. We'll be seeing them soon, in fact, as some are coming due. The doctor visit and staff was exceptional as we decided to have that be Honey's last day. Been coming here for 8 + years for my Boston Terriers and black lab. Recently came in with my pitbull who got attacked. Badly needed antibiotics but was worried taking him into a place with other dogs- he has dog on dog aggression. But I called in and they got me in same day, and immediately gave me a room to wait in so my big idiot baby of a dog wouldn't even have to see another dog. Dr Decozio was great with my pit, she has big breeds herself. Only a bit more expensive than your discount vet, you're paying for cleanliness and quick service by professionals who really care about your dog. Love this place! read more

I took my little ones to this place, and I was not impressed with Dr. Eva DeCozio during the consultation, she was judging and belittling like she was the ultimate "know-it-all", she made feel uncomfortable. On top of this unpleasant experience, right after consultation the staff offered a $40 a month care plan, which I was hesitant to sign up for as I did not have enough information to make a decision. An annual cost breakdown showing that paying out of pocket was more expensive than the plan could have been helpful. However, instead of providing useful information, Dr. Eva DeCozio came back in the room and she asked to the assistant: DID YOU EXPLAINED THE PLAN TO HER?? (talking about me in the third person like I was not in the room) then she turns towards me and goes "DO YOU KNOW THAT THIS IS NOT A CHARITY? WE DO NOT DONATE OUR TIME" and reinforced with sarcasm saying "WE ACTUALLY NEED TO GET PAID". That was just rude and unnecessary for saying the less, no need to say I am not coming back to this place and I definitely do not recommend it. There is plenty of places where you can take your fur babies, no need to deal with bullies. On a positive note, the assistants were very patient, very courteous and sweet with my fur babies. read more

Do NOT go to this vet clinic. I should have read these reviews before I did. The doctor at this location does not care for your pets. He won't even pet them or talk to them. Maybe I'm asking to much but any other vet I go to loves on my dog. My dog couldn't walk on his left legs and so we freaked out and took him to the nearest vet. We also go to VCA in Alaska so decided to stick with their chain. The doctor didn't even TOUCH our dog barely spent 5 minutes with him and just made the assumption it was valley fever because in his words "I see at least 5 dogs a day come in with this." My dog didn't even have ANY respiratory issues which is the first signs of valley fever. We haven't even been in the state 3 weeks & limb weakness is a sign you get a month+ into having this condition. After telling him we had financially issues and couldn't afford blood work & x rays. We ended up getting blood work and pain meds and a $65 visit turned into a $200 one. Oh, my dog did not have valley fever, we went home and actually felt around and he had a tick. A TICK!!!!!! DO NOT go to this place. I wish I had switched vets yrs ago, but didn't need one often enough. Two yrs ago my dog had an abscessed tooth. They started out at $1200 until I complained. Got it down to about $700. On the morning of the appt I told them to skip the $250 teeth cleaning and only worry about the abscess. When I picked up my dog they said they had great news, they got the bill down to about $550 and that included the teeth cleaning, which was still $250! What!!! I was beyond mad. My bill should only have been $300. This week my beloved 12.5 yr old chocolate lab got sick and I knew it was really bad. I didn't know where else to take him so I went back. Bad decision on my part. The vet looked at him for 2 mins, told me it could be valley fever, congestive heart failure, lung cancer or some type of cancer. I had already suspected the CHF or lung cancer. The tech comes back in with a list of tests with a hefty price tag. I explained that if it's really bad, I don't want to put my dog through any treatment just to prolong the inevitable. She looked at me like I was cruel and said "we need to know what he has in order to treat him". DID SHE NOT HEAR ME! She then proceeded to talk to me about vaccinations. Seriously, my dog is dying and you want to give him vaccines now! The guilt started in and I opted for the valley fever test, $200. The vet never came back to discuss other options. This morning my baby could hardly walk and he had quit eating a few days ago. Today we put him to rest. I went to another clinic as I refused to go back there. This place is a joke, they say hospital but they close and don't do overnights. They schedule services, text you conformation and then come up with some extra money ploy at 5;00 night before.( they have done this twice too me) I have spent over $2,000.00 dollars with them, only to be treated like a idiot. My dog was given his rabbies vaccination 3 days before grooming appointment, I have the receipt and tag. but not by them so to keep the appointment they wanted to give him another rabbies vaccination. Of coarse for more money. The back medical staff seems qualified but the office staff must be on commission. Overall it's about money. So if you want big bills, even if it makes your animal sick , so be it, use this office. Sad that I was warned and thought I would give them a chance, bring your Credit Cards because you will need them. The bills add up fast and before you know it. You have been ripped off. read more
