I highly recommend VCA. I found a dog a couple of months ago and since my attempts to find an owner have been unsuccessful I decided to keep him. It was super easy to schedule an appointment online and the first exam is free. I was definitely nervous taking him in because we are still working on training and on our walks he is very reactive to other animals and people that get too close. I relayed this to the staff and was able to wait outside for someone to come meet us and take us through the side door. Thankfully he was really excited to meet everyone and just wanted to play and give kisses. Josh and the vet were able to give him all of his vaccines and take blood with no issues. By the end of the visit I was able to take his muzzle off and leave him in the room while I went to settle the bill. Everyone was so helpful and did a great job of explaining what he needs. Really I've had anxiety about this visit for the past week but everything went better than I could have hoped for. read more

Update: My puppy died on 7/1/2022, so, whatever was wrong with her, she was not treated appropriately for it. She died less than a week after this appointment. Last month, we decided it was time to get a new puppy after the death of my 6 month old puppy... after about 8 months. We brought in our yorkie for an exam and vaccines. It went OK. I would not recommend getting your dog's teeth cleaned here. Until this point, we had satisfactory service at this location. However, our dog went in for a teeth cleaning and came back with one less tooth. The Details: We were asked, "Do you want to be called if we need to remove any teeth?" There is a form asking this question. We requested that we be called first. This call did not happen. It didn't happen during or after. We first learned about the tooth being pulled when we arrived to pick up our dog. This location pulled a tooth that just 2 years ago, we paid to have a root canal and capped. ($2,500). VCA had records of this tooth repair, so they knew about the root canal and cap. Our dog is young, and we wanted her to have a tooth that would last, so we paid the extra to ensure she would have a solid tooth. A tech that brought our dog to us after the cleaning, had very little to say about why the tooth was pulled. We've requested records or any extra details so we could feel better about this tooth removal. No x-rays. No details on the bill. No conversation with the person that performed the removal. We've now called twice on two separate occasions to speak to someone who could explain what happened in more detail. When the bill is $981.18, you'd think you could get a little direct communication with the person who pulled the tooth. Today I was told I would get a call back from Angela (who was in the office on another call), but she decided to leave for the day without returning a call. (I was told she would definitely call me back today). Now she is off the weekend. We've attempted to go through the proper channels to resolve this issue, but we've had no response. I moved to UA in the Spring from Merion Village. I had been taking my pets to the same vet for almost 10 years. I found a stray and was able to get in the same day and get him neutered the next. The staff is so kind to my animals and me. They take time to explain treatment instructions and even demonstrate with me how to administer medicine to my senior Yorkie. Today, Dr. Pruchnicki and vet tech, Anna or Annie, were superb. Our beloved Beagle/Lab mix was taken in immediately, due to an episode out of the blue. She's nearly 12. They discovered a mass in her abdomen. Dr. P educated us and was very thorough. The tech was the most caring and smart tech I've met. The quick response and care we received were A+. So grateful to VCA. We adopted Zoe as a frail puppy and love her as a family member. Tomorrow's surgery may yield a sad result but we're confident she's in the right hands and at the right hospital. I went to VCA because they advertised a cheap first visit. I inherited a stray kitty from a friend's grandpa who had recently passed. He had the kitty for a couple years and said it was always a stray. I had this cat, Spam, for a couple months and we had a deep bond. She and I would spend our nights together and eat our meals together. She would sit on my shoulder when I cleaned out her litter box. Anyway- Spam needed shots and spayed (so I was told from my friend). So I took her in for a cheap first visit at VCA. Long story short - she had been microchipped and lost from her first owner for a couple years. They had contacted a lot of people. I also heard them through the doorway giving a couple people my contact information- which I had never consented to giving out. The vet came in elated to find the previous owner and that Spam would go back to them. He just kept talking about how awesome it was and then the vet tech just came in and took Spam away. Do not get me wrong - I am so happy this cat is with the original owners. I just think VCA was extremely insensitive to me and had poor bedside manner. I really loved that cat and didn't get time to say goodbye. Again, I'm so happy for that kitty and that family to have their cat back. But VCA should have been more sensitive and kind to me. And I don't even know who has my contact information now.... lol read more

These doctors are willing to do anything to help your little animal BFF. They squeezed us in on a busy day before hours to help our puppy with a huge cut on his leg that was not healing. They are always friendly, not demanding and not pushy like most are with your animal. The office is clean, sanitized and does not smell like wet dog like most do. They have car service so you can wait in your car for COVID, and even though they maybe busy they will always take your call. read more

I will never take any of my animals to them ever again! This time last year, my 10-year old cat was sick and we took him in to VCA. They diagnosed him with cancer, kept him hospitalized for a couple of days, and sent him home with us completely covered in his own urine and feces. (I literally had to put him in a bathtub and soak it off of him because pet wipes wouldn't even come close to cleaning it off). VCA prescribed him meds and told us to follow up in a week. At the follow up appointment, they told us he didn't have cancer and he was going to be fine. A week later at MedVet when he was sicker than ever, the doctor there told us my kitty had been not given the correct amounts of medicine and that, not only did he have cancer, but it was so far progressed we needed to make an end of life decision within one or two days tops. To get our hopes up like that and then to lose him without any time to prepare was devastating to me and my husband. Fast forward to this week. Our newer kitten was neutered at VCA on Monday. We knew when we picked him up that something wasn't right because he wouldn't touch his food or water. We called and they said he should be better the next day. He improved a tiny bit on Tuesday, but on Wednesday he looked and seemed totally lethargic. He was holding his mouth open and drooling and seemed obviously dehydrated, so we called and they got us right in. I wasn't there for more than 20 minutes and they "checked him thoroughly" and said he was just traumatized from the surgery and he should improve with fluids and a vitamin B shot. Yesterday our little kitten was even worse. Holding his mouth open and he kept licking his mouth and drooling, we took him immediately to Cats Only Veterinary Clinic. They told us that he needed hospitalized and several medicines because he had a laceration from the front of his tongue to the back and that is why he wasn't eating or drinking. I knew it had to have been from his treatment during surgery and I tried to tell them something was wrong all week and no one listened to us. We will never bring our precious fur babies back to VCA ever again. read more

If I could give 0 stars I would have. I have debated over how to write this review for several months. My one and only appointment at VCA Mill Run was on 8/24/19. This was a new patient appointment for my newly adopted medium-sized mixed breed dog. VCA was highly recommended by both the rescue organization from which I adopted him and several friends. After scheduling the appointment online I made sure to call the front desk and let them know that Lou was slow to warm up to new people. I also let them know that he had nipped a groomer in July. They assured me this was nothing out of the ordinary and that we were in good hands. Specially, the vet we were seeing was great with behavioral dogs and the receptionist said her dog sees this vet. We arrived for the appointment 5 or so minutes early. Check in was simple and fast but we were then made to wait in the waiting room for 25 minutes. This was frustrating as a new customer especially since I called ahead and let them know that my dog was anxious. Our appointment was at 10:30a on a Saturday and the place did not seem busy by any means. After being taken back to the room by a kind vet tech (I forget her name) we were introduced to the vet. The vet, Andrea Jensen, took my dog's leash and began to walk him around the exam room and the hallway outside. She gave him treats during this time and commented that he was doing well with her. After a minute or two she paused and reached down from behind Lou's head. This caused Lou to snap at her but he did not make any contact with her hand or cause any injuries. This is the point at which our appointment took a DRASTIC turn. The vet quickly handed his leash back to me and said "I'm going to be very blunt with you. Dogs like this can't be fixed. You should put him down. Most people spend years and thousands of dollars on training and still end up putting the dog down. Save yourself the heartbreak." I was stunned. I legitimately wondered if she was joking with me. She then went on to ask if I was going to be having children soon (?) and referred to Lou as being 'bipolar' and 'crazy.' She also asked me if I was considering returning him to the rescue organization and assured me that there was nothing wrong with making that choice. In hindsight I should have left that instant but I stayed for a few more minutes so he could get the shots he needed. Thankfully, the first visit was free but I did end up spending $60 or so on the vaccinations. Fast forward a month and we are seen by a new vet in a totally different office who did 3 hours of examination on Lou- checked his teeth, ears, eyes, etc and listened to me and my concerns. After an exam and some x-rays the possibility of an ACL injury was raised. This was checked out by the speciality orthopedic team at OSU two weeks later who determined that Lou has hip dysplasia and the beginnings of an ACL issue. Lou has now received over 6 weeks of fish oil, joint supplements, and gabapentin to relieve his symptoms. He is happy, goofy, and relatively pain free. He is starting to build relationships with new people. He was twice as much energy as he did when I brought him home in early August. I wrote this huge, detailed review in hopes of reaching anyone that might have been told by this office to put their dog down. Dr. Jensen offered me no medications, no help (aside from mentioning a trainer), practically nothing. She did not once attempt to uncover a medical reason for his behavior. I am horrified that she is a practicing, licensed vet and gives out such harsh advice without doing any investigating. VCA emailed me a survey in early September (approximately 9/3) which I filled out. The last question asked if I wished to be contacted about my experience to which I said yes. Today is December 1st and I have still never been contacted by their office. Don't take your pets here. There are so many better options in Columbus with vets who care and want your pets to be happy and healthy. read more

WARNING DON'T GO HERE!! All around bad experience. We recently moved into the area and also got a new puppy. Very pleased with our initial exam and shots visit with the Doctor. However, downhill from there. About a month later in for booster shots, we were charged for another exam? Had our Maltese groomed and the groomer cut our dogs leg! Three weeks later had two of our dogs boarded for the weekend and arranged for booster shots to be given. I asked if we could pick up our dogs on Sunday, they said, "yes." They gave me an estimated for the cost and I saw they had another exam listed. I asked why and they said it wasn't necessary since our dog was just seen and the charge would be removed. We got there Sunday at 4:00 pm and the place was closed. Picked up the dogs on Manday and they were going to charge me for the extra day of boarding and also another exam!!!! I questioned them and they said because it was a different Dr. they charged for the exam. I guess their doctors don't talk to each other or trust the others' opinions. I have taken my dogs there for approx 4 years for both veterinary care and boarding. Staff - techs and providers - have always been very caring and wonderful to my 2 dogs. I wish they had more empathy for the animals' human counterparts. I waited 2.5hr to have my dog's paw looked at - instead of telling me they didn't have time due to emergencies I was left waiting and waiting. When I expressed dissatisfaction with this I was told to not yell and was "fired" as a patient. Lately it feels as though they expect patients to respect their time, but they do not reciprocate that respect. Disappointing. read more

The vets and staff at VCA are top notch. When my dog was diagnosed with diabetes, they were so patient to show me all the ins and outs of the insulin shots etc. we had to do frequent glucose tests and the front desk staff always recognized us as soon as we walked in the door. I have brought both dogs and our cat to Dr Deal for a few years now and she is the best out there. I can't tell you how many emails and phone calls I've had with her and she truly takes the time to care for the pets and owners. I just moved to the area and took my healthy 10 year old boxer mixed dog to VCA Mill Run animal hospital for a 2 day boarding ONLY stay while I traveled on work. I supplied all of her records showing she had been fully vaccinated and up-to-date, additionally they contacted her previous vet and confirmed she only needed 1 shot for K9, with that I authorized only 1 shot that would be given during her stay. With a day later I was contacted by a doctor who told me my dog was depressed and not wanting to walk or eat, they said she had low blood pressure and was dehydrated and wanted to put her on IV fluids and give her steroids. I asked them why they took her BP as she was not to see a Vet, she was only there for boarding, I told them not to give my dog any drugs, and I would be there in the morning to pick my dog up on my return from the trip. I later received another call saying my dog was fine then a different doctors later that night telling me my dog would not make it through the night if I did not let them give her a shot of steroids? They also informed me they had done a scan on her chest and found the problem...and it was a cancerous tumor growing on her heart? Now keep in mind every time I spoke with a vet at this hospital they were coming out of surgery or going in to surgery? With that reinforced my stance that I did not want them to administer any medicine to my dog, and I would take her to a different Vet when returned, I drove over night to arrive in the morning and I was met with a bill for $922.14 and $849.26 for items I did not authorize or ask for, and they discounted to just the boarding after I told them I would write a letter to the Ohio Attorney General, the invoice showed they did everything from Chest X-ray, study, to IV Fluids, oxygen supplement fecal test, all which I did not order or need for my healthy pet that runs 2 miles a day with me. My dog was fully vaccinated and tested two months prior to her boarding stay. With that I refused to pay for anything I did not order and paid only for the two days of boarding. I took my dog home and now she has been pooping blood and diarrhea from one of the unauthorized drugs they gave her. Summary be cautious of boarding your pet where there are lots of practicing veterinarians on the payroll. Upon entrance I noticed at-least half a dozen practicing doctors pictures shown on the wall, at this location, these are highly paid professionals that generally make over $100K a year and they are paid for writing prescriptions and surgeries, some are needed however not for my pet that was just boarding for two days. I have filed a complaint with the Ohio Attorney General about this. read more

I don't want to make this sound like a negative dump on VCA but I do have some concerns where their communication with owners are concerned. Basically, they are not very attentive where this is concerned. As far as the medical side goes (surgery, diagnosis, treatment, capabilities and expertise, etc) they are top notch without question, no complaints whatsoever, and I 110% recommend them, and do so regularly. However, they really need to up their game keeping owners informed, updated and reassured in a big way. This is now the THIRD time our baby has been in for surgery and we've heard nothing unless WE called for an update. This latest episode we learned, after WE called at 3:30pm, that the procedure was completed at 10am. The doctor claimed to have called around Noon but neither my wife, nor I have ANY record on our phones of a call from them from ANY related number! We called again at 5:30pm and got the doctor on the phone only to tell us she attempted to call at the above time and even verified the number on file she said was called. Look, theses are not just animals, they are family and therefore just as important and just as loved. When they are being cared for, we need reassured all is well. It only takes a few minutes. Granted, these are unusual and trying times with COVID looming large and we are all being pushed to our limits. NONE of us need any added stress so let's make the effort to try and comfort each other where and when we can. It's amazing what a simple and timely outreach can do, even if it means adding to a schedule bursting at the seams. Where family is concerned, it's often the only ray of sunshine in an otherwise cloudy day. read more

I would like to thank the team at VCA. I'm going to start at the beginning. 16 years ago I had broken off a relationship with my fiancé and decided to do a little day drinking. Not a good choice. Went to a run down gas station to pick up some beer and the cashier asked me if I wanted a kitten and she pointed at a box with a kitten in it. I really didn't want the damn thing. Little did I know. she said if you don't want him I'll take him home. I looked at him and then her and thought to myself he doesn't have a chance. I know a little judgmental. I took him home and he was flea infested. I gave him a bath and took him to VCA the next day. They treated him for fleas and guided me on next steps to take care of him. He was my closet friend for the next 16 years. He was like me, liked his alone time . Never a lap cat. Didn't sleep with me but always the first person to greet me at the front door and would always dutifully stand by my bed waiting for me to wake up. I was always so proud of him. He was big and strong at his healthiest. When he got older he had lost most of his weight and you could feel how skinny he was getting. He was back and forth to the VCA and the OSU emergency center and I had to make one of the most difficult decision of my life. He was having trouble standing up and getting wobbly. It flat out sucked...I had to say goodbye to my longest friend Booger. So today I write this review because the staff at VCA sent me the kindest card of remembrance. Specifically my new puppy has had various issues since we got him, Dr. Adriana Martinez has been outstanding. She has gone above and beyond to ensure the absolute best care for our puppy. Today was my first visit to VCA Mill Run Animal Hospital. I just moved to the area a month ago and haven't established regular care with a local vet yet. This office came highly recommended by a few people I work with. I called today because my cat hasn't been eating or drinking for the past few days. They were able to squeeze me in for a same day appointment despite having an already full schedule. When I arrived in the parking lot, they had me call from my car. I only waited for a few minutes before a vet assistant came to get me. They let me come inside for the appointment (some other vet clinics do not allow you to enter due to COVID19). My cat was seen by Dr. Leffler and Megan (veterinary assistant). I was really happy with the visit. I felt that these two were very friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. The Dr explained everything well and came up with a solid and comprehensive plan of action to help my cat. Megan was so awesome about answering my questions and giving me helpful tips regarding how to administer medications to a difficult cat. She said that they can also help if I'm not able to get my cat to take his medication at home. I will definitely be bringing my cat back to this vet clinic for regular care. I cannot express how upset I am with this place. To think I had my family pets, & now my own going here for over a decade. This place does not care about you or your pets. They only want your money. When I recently called to try & get my family dog in to be seen front desk worker Caitlyn was the one to help me. No compassion in her voice, didn't even bother to look up my account- point blank told me if I was really concerned to try & call another VCA or go elsewhere. Now.. why would I do that when I've had my dog established there for YEARS?! That office knows my dogs extensive history, she was very old & we've spent so much money for her there medically. She could have at least asked if I wanted to speak to a Vet tech to see if my problem was worth going elsewhere. Later that day, I did end up taking my dog to MedVet, she was having active heart failure. Sadly, I had to put her down. If I could make this review 0 stars I would. I called back to let them know my dog had passed & discuss how upset I was with how I was handled over the first initial called I was told by Heather she'd leave a message for the manager to call back. No call later that day. Next day, I called back & spoke with Mandy.. with nothing but excuses. She even sounded annoyed I called back to speak with a manager that I asked for two days ago. I came to this vet because I needed my cat to be checked because I thought he was losing weight and I was worried about him and this vet offers a free first examination which I found very useful and that is a tip for anyone who needs a first examination for their pet. They do honor the first one being free my cat ended up being fine he just kind of had some teeth problems but he is fine. I would say that this place is really nice it's very spacious it's several times larger than I expected it to be. It has an amazing skylight inside so when you go in you don't even expect it to look the way that it does. It's really really pretty,has great natural light and then it has a huge section for if you need to keep your dog there like in a kennel, there is a huge area for it.I would definitely go back again for my cat and I plan to go back again when it's time to get his teeth cleaned which is what the problem was. When my husband and I got our new puppy, we had no idea what veterinarian to take her to. I did a bunch of research on-line and called around to my top choices to get a better idea on pricing and courtesy of service. I decided to take our puppy to VCA Mill Run, mostly because they offer a free exam on their first visit. I figured if I didn't like them at least I saved some money. I got a good impression of them right away because they were able to squeeze us in with a same-day appointment right before Christmas. Upon entering the facility, our puppy was greeted with warm smiles and plenty of treats. The entire staff was super friendly. In fact, our puppy whimpered when the vet tech left the exam room for a little bit because she liked her so much! Needless to say, we decided to make this our regular vet. We see Dr. Wendy Deal who is fantastic. She is very caring and gentle with our puppy and answers all of our questions as first time pet owners. We've been back several times for various booster shots and have been treated with the same courtesy each time. This place is wonderful. I used to use Rascals Vet Hospital but they have a ridiculous scheduling system making it impossible to ever get seen. This place is open until 8pm weeknights which is a huge boon when you work. Great doctor, (Dr. Leffler), who examined Pi thoroughly and explained exactly what her issue was and set her on a path to wellness. Very happy with my first visit here! I just moved to town and my cat needed a new vet! The first exam was free and their pricing is very reasonable. They follow up with personalized emails as well as helpful reminders. They were able to get us an appointment on the same day as well. Staff was very welcoming and friendly and didn't try and sell me on extra stuff I don't need. Love this place! Straight forward and to the point while providing thorough veterinary care. 3/24/18 Update. While initially impressed with this place, was recently quoted a price of $500+ for a teeth clean. It costs me $200 with no insurance to get my own teeth cleaned. Get over yourselves, you charge WAY too much for a DOG teeth clean. Went to a small town vet and they charged $250 which included a nail trim, anal glands, 3 teeth pulled, and the antibiotics and pain pills!!! Won't ever go back to VCA. Oh and their dog boarding sucks too. Way overpriced for them to come home stinky and smelly and as if they hadn't had water or peed in days. read more

Dr.Deal listened patiently to all my pet concerns and provided exceptional service in giving reasonable explanations backed with rigorous scientific evidence. My dog had licked his paws obsessively for years which my previous vet told me was untreatable and potentially due to anxiety and dismissed my concerns. After a particularly severe paw infection, I switched vets. Dr.Deal figured out my dog had allergies and found relief for his paw licking. She was extremely thorough in her exam and solved a problem plaguing my dog for years. And she was extremely kind and considerate. read more

I have used Mill Run VCA for almost 20 years. I have used them for both veterinary care and for boarding. They have always been professional and caring. Through the years I have lost a wonderful dog to cancer and a cat to diabetes. Not only did they provide wonderful care for my animals but at the end they provided me with support and compassion. Last week, while away on business, I received a call that my Border Collie, who was being boarded, had some type of event and was doing very poorly. By the next morning, when I had returned home, they had diagnosed a very dangerous illness and had already begun treating my dog, thus saving his life. Dr. Jensen and Dr. Beckett went out of their way to make sure I understood exactly what was going on, exactly what would be required in the future, and perhaps most importantly, made sure I was calm and felt capable of providing the care my dog would need. And then the bill came. I was braced for the worst. After all, there were x-rays, emergency care, medications, a week of boarding, blood tests, fecal tests, etc. It wasn't cheap but I know for a fact that they discounted the costs for many of the services provided. To potential clients of Mill Run VCA I say "You couldn't find a better place for your animals". To Mill Run VCA I say "Thank You". And to Drs. Jensen and Becket all I can say is "There's no way I can repay you for what you did. I saved Oreo from a life of being beaten and starved by his previous owner. You saved both of us". read more

Waited over 40 min for my dogs vaccine appointment with the nurse while everyone else was helped, even people showing up 30 minutes after me were helped. I had to call and ask why just to get any help. I checked in when I first arrived but they basically completely forgot about me. Highly frustrating. read more
