The staff was exceptional from the front desk (they even let me borrow a personal phone charger when my battery was low), to the tech, to the vet. Everyone gave very thorough explanations on what was going on, outcomes, and options for treatment. We were not pushed to do unnecessary treatments. The wait time was absolutely insane. My dog had a stick lodged in the back of her throat, and after spending 8 hours at MedVet, they still failed to find it. I ended up discovering it myself once we got home. Additionally, some of the front desk staff showed a complete lack of empathy and did not take concerned pet parents seriously. I witnessed one woman bring in her dog--she was clearly distressed and spoke English as a second language--and the front desk employee made no effort to treat her or her pet with kindness. The interaction was dismissive and lacked basic compassion. Overall, this was an extremely frustrating and disappointing experience. I strongly recommend going to a different MedVet location. The front desk staff here seem overwhelmed and in need of a break, and unfortunately, it shows in the level of care and compassion provided. read more

I brought my cat MedVet on June 7, 2026. She was seen immediately. However the doctor didn't seem sure about the diagnosis and suggested euthanasia. The crazy part is she expected me to give her an answer right then and there. She should have explained fully about her condition but lacked knowledge and therefore began guessing. I will not proceed with the euthanasia process based on inconclusiveness. Other solutions should have been suggested first. I'm not comfortable with recommending them to anyone. read more

I had the absolute worst experience at MetVet Hilliard this week when my cat Rémy was vomiting and had diarrhea. Their staff does not listen AT ALL. From the moment I walked in, no one even took me seriously. They asked me why I brought him in and I told them gastrointestinal issues. They asked if he was urinating and I was like "ummmm maybe?" The person at the front desk called for a tech "stat because the cat isn't urinating." We get into a room and they come in a few minutes later after examining him wanting to ask some questions. I told them another cat in my house had just had gastrointestinal issues and been sick (brought it home from the vet's office the week prior we think). That wasn't even a question in their mind. The doctor who came to talk to me wanted to focus on "stress at home" and asked about his litter box and food. Then brought out an estimate for $1200 to have an x Ray and bloodwork done even though he had JUST had his wellness check at the vet within the last month and he was given a clean bill of health. They said "well things can change in a day." Ok fine - you're the professionals so I trust you. Nearly two hours later they come back and inform me that the bloodwork was normal and his x Ray was negative for blockage or abnormalities in his abdomen (thank goodness!) but said they could keep him and hospitalize him and send him for additional testing with an internal medicine doctor if I "really wanted to get to the bottom of things." They gave me NO answers and guidance about what was likely the problem and the doctor actually said "it could be cancer. We don't really know," and urged me to hospitalize him for what I'm sure would have been thousands more. I opted to get them to give him subcutaneous fluids and an anti nausea medication so I could take him home and pursue care with his primary vet. Turns out: virus. Thanks for the nice scare throwing out cancer for a 5-year old healthy cat with normal bloodwork and exams. Way to live those core values of caring about your patients and customers. I will NEVER use MedVet ever again. It is the biggest ripoff and runaround. read more

From the moment we walked in they made this horrible day as easy as it could be. They invited us into a room immediately, they told us to take as long as we need, offered the room for the entire day. The entire team explained every step from payment, procedure, and after life care. After our visit they were prompt to return our Thor back home. By partnering with their 3rd party, Thor was back to us the next day. This was the hardest decision we've ever had to make but MedVets care through the process helped more than they know. They told us our Guinea Pig was septic and dying after reading the one and only xray they took. They wanted us to put him down! Fast forward and he is completely fine. It was gas and they wanted us to put him down. They showed us the xray and went into all these details and then it took us telling them we wanted our pet to get him back. After staying up with him all night waiting for him to pass he perked up and started eating and drinking. Just think if we would have listened. I do not recommend med vet. Be careful taking your bird here! They almost killed my best friend taking blood. We made the appointment with the Avian boarded vet just for a check up and she let the resident and vet techs over restrain and almost kill him. It turned out she didn't even observe any of the restraint, but she sure did tell us that she did at the time. She swore up and down that she was present and observing. They trimmed his nails extremely short after we specifically told them not to. The next day, we started requesting records and trying to speak with the vet to get clarification. It took 10 days to get records and speak with the vet. She straight up gaslit us about what happened. She denied she said a lot of things that she said to us. The records don't reflect what actually happened. We made a board complaint, but that was dismissed today. A big vet like this is a double-edged sword; they have resources to help animals, but when they screw up, they also have the legal resources to protect themselves. I have done all I can do to help prevent others from taking their loved one to these liars. If it's not an emergency, I would seek another vet. read more

Brought our dog in after being attacked by hornets. They wanted to talk about charges before a care plan. They wanted $70 for every time they took a blood pressure. The doctors are not open to having a conversation or explaining what they are doing or why they are doing it. Instead they question us about if we went to vet school. The "doctor" even stated that she was offended that we ask questions of her. Then they want to talk about "setting boundaries" instead of talking about care plans still! Took my cat to the Hilliard MedVet. She was in extreme pain and limping on her back right leg. She had a bowel movement on Friday night that was quite abnormal in my opinion; this was Saturday morning when I took her and her stool sample there. They completely disregarded the stools. When the tech came in to get her vitals, I explained to her how to pick her up because of the pain she was experiencing and even offered to do it myself. She DID NOT LISTEN and my cat let out a scream that the whole building heard. After 3 hours, I asked them to retrieve her for me because she still hadn't be seen. Apparently she wasn't an emergency to them. Once I asked for her back suddenly the doctor was ready to see her. With no apparent physical touch to her from the doctor, they wanted to perform more testing and no explanation as to why and what; like X-ray, scope, ultra sound...I chose to leave with her getting a pain relieving shot. Of course they suggested some other meds and since I and my cat was stressed, I said yes. I just wanted to leave. Needless to say, the next day we were at a different pet urgent care and with a physical (hands on) exam she had a very good idea of what the problem was. So I opted to do the X-ray. The total cost was still less expensive than MedVet. But more importantly, she was treated more gently and with very good care. My cat was in worse shape after the MedVet tech picked her up and is unfortunately no longer with us. read more

This will be long, I've waited a few weeks to organize my thoughts to post the most honest review I can. I took my rabbit here when he had bloat, as recommended by our local exotic vet. Exotic emergency care is very limited in Ohio, and MedVet Hilliard is our only option. We were treated very well by the front staff, the vet techs, and the vets. I appreciated how available each staff member made themselves to speak with us during a very heartbreaking time. I felt the vets overall knew what they were doing, although in hindsight, I do feel my rabbit received suboptimal care which was due in part to me not asking enough questions, and in part to lack of communication and clarity from MedVet staff. This is not my first experience with an exotic emergency vet. We are from SoCal, and have visited ACCESS Culver City multiple times. I'm an experienced rabbit owner. I know how the emergency visit should go, but in my emotional state, I let one important thing slip. When you take your pet in, you will always meet with a liaison who gives you a quote. This quote should ALWAYS be itemized so you know what you are paying for and can decline certain items. MedVet only gave me a quote of $2500-3500 and mentioned this would include X-rays, the stomach pumping, IV fluids, and pain/gut motility meds. I was not shown an itemized list. I did ask if this meant a night of care was $2500 on the low end and $3500 on the high end to which I was told "yes" by the liaison. My rabbit spent the night at MedVet. I left at 10pm (had been there since 5pm) and received 1 call from the vet overnight that my rabbit seemed to be doing better, was nibbling on food. I received no other updates, and chose not to call because there were other pets with emergencies coming in to be stabilized, I didn't want to interrupt care. I assumed I would get a call with changes or updates. In the morning, I arrived to MedVet and pulled in to the lot shortly after 0800 am, when I received a call from the vet. I was only then updated that my pet's kidney values were poor and pain medication had been withheld the entire night due to this. I should have been updated about this during the night, I was not. I entered the building and met with the vet. I was told by the vet that my rabbit was not doing well, needed to have his stomach pumped again, and would need an extensive stay. When I asked for quotes, I was not given paperwork, I was told everyone would understand if I chose euthanasia. I asked if the full $2500 I had prepaid the night before had been exhausted and was told "yes." I asked if each night would cost me $2500, I was told "likely" and offered to apply for a pet credit card to put the bill on. In LA, this care would have cost $800 a night (I called ACCESS and checked). I do not understand why, in Ohio, where the average income per Google is $27k-77k, exotic vet care costs over 3x what it costs in Los Angeles, where I made double my Ohio income. Vet care in Ohio- please stop overcharging. Back to MedVet. In the end, I chose to euthanize my rabbit, in part because he was in pain and in part because I could not keep up with care that would cost $2500 a night. It was a heartbreaking decision that I've come to regret because a few days later, I called MedVet asking for the itemized list of my rabbit's care. At that time, I was informed I had a REFUND of $1299. First off- why was I misled about the cost of care? I would have continued care for another night, and maybe my rabbit would have survived. Secondly, what would have happened to this "refund" if I had not called? I will stress again that I was treated with great kindness by all office staff. I will go to MedVet again because, well, that is the only exotic emergency option within 2 hours range around my city and I have one surviving rabbit. I will tell you I do not plan to adopt any more rabbits while I live in Ohio simply due to the exorbitant costs MedVet charges make it unfeasible to own a rabbit. To anyone who goes to MedVet- ask up front for an itemized breakdown of cost. Ask for a copy of it. Call often about your pet for updates, staff are probably too busy to call you, and the only way to ensure your pet is not suffering overnight is to call or stay at the clinic. This is not the worst vet clinic, it does have room for improvement and it is important for you to be a strong advocate for your pet and yourself. Get pet insurance if you can- it's hard to get for rabbits but since rabbits will need emergency vet care in their lives- worth it. I would not have written this review if I had been able to speak with a manager or received a response from the internal review I submitted to MedVet. *FYI- when they euthanize your pet, the meds will be slammed in fast. I looked away for a moment to play soothing music on my phone and missed looking into my let's eyes as he lost consciousness. I will always regret that. read more

I was truly disappointed by our visit. We were there for 5 1/2 hours. Our dog was vomiting, having diarrhea, shaking, etc. We were given no real answers, and they would not listen to us about our dog's behavior nor to our wishes about treatment approach. We agreed to all that they said and requested an ultrasound in addition to everything else. They refused and dismissed our concerns. Our dog is now passing blood and showing signs of critical condition. He is back in a different emergency vet today, after MedVet failed to identify the issue. The only good person we interacted with was the assistant who came in to tell us how much everything was going to cost (that should tell you a lot)... I took my Baby , my 14 year old Pitbull to MEDVET 5230 Renner Road Columbus Ohio 43228 on mothers day May 14, 2023. He was lethargic and was refusing to eat or drink and couldn't stand up on his own. I advised them that he was given adequan on May 5, 2023 and the other dates as well. I begged them to give him fluids to flush his system anything to see if he was having a reaction to the medication. I asked over and over if what he was experiencing was due to the Adequan. The vet Timothy Cappel, DVM assured me that it wasn't a reaction to the medication. I gave him the dates he was given the meds, I asked him over and over if he could have been having issues because of the medication. I told him that TITAN wasn't just a dog that is my best friend. They did an x ray, and they were supposed to do bloodwork as well. The x ray came back with a mass on his lung, the vet was POSITIVE it was cancer. I was completely unaware of this tumor prior to that night. Because of the mass and his age they asked me did I still want the test for the blood work. I said yes !!! I asked about the medication being the reason for his symptoms!? over and over and over. I was totally losing my shit!!! His bloodwork came back and the readings for his kidneys were so high that the machine couldn't read them. I asked again about flushing out his system, if that would help. They said that at that point due to the mass and his age they would suggest Euthanasia, I was devastated, beyond grief, lost so very lost. I had to make the awful decision all alone. I cried and bald and cried and bald!!!! My BEST FRIEND was gone. On Monday May 15, 2023 I did get a response from American Regent!! The manufacturers of Adequan Canine. Everything he was experiencing was, besides the Mass, was due to the adequan. Neither my vet or the emergency vet Knew those symptoms and signs were NEGATIVE reactions to the medication. MY best Friend is dead and I have so much guilt for making the decision based on two different VETS that didn't know the DANGER and Severe side effects of ADEQUAN CANINE. PLEASE MAKE THE DANGERS KNOWN TO THE VETRINARY COMMUNITY, PET OWNERS, MEDIA whomever else would benefit from this knowledge. This medication has SEVERE SIDE EFFECTs read more

I will not go into what happened but I was a blubbery mess! The staff was very sweet, offered water and tissues. Came out to the car to help with my puppy. They were very helpful and quiet and understanding of what happened. The staff was polite and very helpful. We were there for about 2 hours waiting to see if we can leave our pup or go home. We waited across the street at a pub and they called to either take him home or let him stay. The whole time, they treated us with kindness and explained everything very well. I would for surely recommend this hospital, they have all the right and up to date equipment and doctors and surgeons on staff. Very well equipped hospital. read more

If we could give 10 stars we would. This was our first experience with an emergency vet and we are so grateful we chose MedVet Hilliard. We had to bring our sweet 10 year old kitty in an emergency and not knowing exactly what was wrong. When we arrived, COVID instructions were clear and easy to follow. As soon as our kitty was admitted we were kept well-informed and all of our questions were met with patient and thorough answers. Every cost was carefully laid out for us to approve before tests/treatment and we were given options. The fees were completely reasonable given the nature of emergency care. Unfortunately, our kitty's diagnosis was terminal, and the prognosis poor. When it was time to make the impossible decision, Dr. Ruehl, helped us to feel confident in our decision. We can never thank her enough for the kindness and compassion she showed us. Fortunately, for end of life procedures, we could go inside to be with our kitty. Again, the process was clearly laid out and everyone who interacted with us was so gentle and kind. They gave us as much time with kitty as we wanted before and after. I was also touched by the little candle they had lit in the lobby when someone is saying good-bye to their furry family member. On that day, sadly, it was for our furry family member. MedVet Hilliard made us feel like their only patient that day, though we know they were busy. In the days following, we picked up kitty's ashes and again, they were so kind. We even received a handwritten sympathy card from the doctor which even made my hubby tear up. (Hopefully he never reads this review, lol.) I will take as many opportunities as Yelp gives me to dissuade people from going to this location of medvet. It's an absolute garbage dump of a staff. Management treats their staff poorly, and thusly you get a staff which doesn't care about the customer. They use their appointment-side resources to handle the emergency side of the business, so if you set an appointment just make sure you've got 5 hours to hear that they've finally got time to see your pet. Third time I went there was to have my pet euthanized. After sitting for an unreasonable amount of time in the room where this was to happen, someone came in and told us we needed to move to another room, walk through the waiting room with our teary eyes and snotty noses in front of a room full of people, because they needed our room for another animal that just came in so they could euthanize that one first. Waited with my dying ferret for an hour before they finally came in and handled our business with a cold attitude and heartless demeanor. This place is hell on earth for your pet. It's difficult to write this - for a lot of people they arrive at the vet vise their pet is a little sick, and they wait, their pet is seen, receives shots, and they go home. In my case, two days after my eldest's birthday, his beloved dwarf hamster had a serious eye problem. It went from "maybe an infection" to "a serious growth, maybe cancer, maybe a tumor." She was my son's friend, his confidante, his source of reassurance in a crazy world. And today, we were there to bid her farewell. Thanks to covid, there was no in person session. You pull up, call, and they came out to pick her up, and I spoke to the vet techs/doc over the phone. And she was so gentle leading me to the inevitable - we knew, and prepared, for the worst - which the vet helped confirm. She was in her "golden hamster years" and it was either prolonging her suffering to lose her in the week, dealing with her pain and suffering, or saying goodbye. My son and I shed some tears and said goodbye to the little lady, and they reassured us she wouldn't be alone inside, as we said our last goodbye. Thanks to MedVet for being gentle with us. Update. I did follow instructions and call to discuss my concerns with the business owner. Same thing. Answered promptly put on hold for lengthy time. I would like to add I never got the radiologist report from the three radiographs taken of my dogs abdomen . I was told they would call the next day. I called after two days and was told by a vet tech (?) that it was her guess that if the report wasn't called, it was nirmss as k and wouldn't change the treatment plan. I said " it's a guess. No, that won't work for me. Can you at least take a pic of the report and text it to me?" She said the doctor would call me later that night. No call ever came. By the next day, my dog refused to walk and so I took her to The Osu emergency clinic . They found neurological deficits in her back legs and provided a medical plan and pain meds. Charge was $200. ( 300 intake fee then they returned $100 since it was pretty quick). They said her initial diagnosis from Medvet was most likely not relevant. Severe pain can cause a dog to go off food, be lethargic. I would've discussed all of this with your management team. Endless putting me on hold results in this followup. Worst service ever! I brought my dog in for a bite wound at 10:00pm... I was told about 2-4 hours. After 5 hours, I asked what the status was. My dog began to have unexpected and unprecedented seizures late at night. It was too late to take her to her regular vet, and too serious not to seek medical care. So we arrived at the animal hospital about 1:00am. Due to my level of concern, I was upset and scared. The staff was patient, attentive, and professional. They explained what they could do at their hospital (including the cost) vs. what my vet could do if I waited until they opened (including an estimated cost). The gave their best diagnosis (which turned out to be correct) and medical advice regarding treatment for my dog. At a time that I really needed help, they helped me. This is our second poor experience with MedVet, and it's safe to say that we won't be returning, under any circumstances. MetVet is one of two vets within 100 miles that see chickens, which is why we went there in the first place. Today, I will only comment on my last experience there. We had battled soup/impacted crop with a young chicken for five days, and finally decided that we needed vet intervention to save her life. The sour crop had started to get better, but she was still impacted, having no bowel movements. We dropped her off a little after 9 am, and they said they'd contact us when they got to her. Hours went by before we received a phone call, and that's when the shit show started. They kept referring to her as a 3 year old chicken, even though they had been told that she was under a year old. They diagnosed her with having a cancerous tumor blocking her crop from emptying, and said they needed to do x-rays. If you own chickens, you know this is completely asinine. Impacted crop happens ALL THE TIME, and if all else fails, one of two things needs done- flushing the crop or opening her open and removing the mass. They didn't even know what a crop flush was, and said that we could spend an additional couple hundred for a consultation with their avian specialist if we wanted. I want to know why it costs $180 just to walk in, for a general consultation, and then it costs even more to get a consultation with the right doctor. That's horseshit, I'm sorry. I explained to the tech on the phone that impacted crop is common, and usually it is a mass of stray/hay/grass that gets jumbled up. They stuck to their cancer story. They wanted to do x-rays, setting us back $600 for just a proper diagnosis. We opted to pick her up and continue working on her ourselves. Needless to say, it wasn't a cancerous tumor blocking her up, and she is now having bowel movements. Her impacted crop is gone, and we are keeping a good eye on her. It's sad when an owner knows more than a "qualified" vet. I've no doubt that these folks know what they're talking about when it comes to cats and dogs, but I don't trust anything they say when it comes to chickens. All they see is dollar signs. read more

I was greeted immediately and asked to fill out some forms since it was my first time there. Once I was done, my pup was escorted back right then and the lobby was almost full. The professionalism by the entire staff was like a breath of fresh air after spending my morning almost in tears. They all were so kind to Gizmo! We were in and out in no time and it didn't cost me my pension. Prices were absolutely reasonable for an emergency situation. The waiting area, bathroom, and exam rooms were all very clean. Free WiFi and cable television to keep you busy while waiting on your fur baby. Happy to say after our visit and medication Gizmo is back to her spunky little self! I do not and absolutely would not recommend using Medvet to anyone seeking urgent or non urgent care for their pets. When our animal companions are hurt, unwell, scared, or struggling they deserve much better than a staff that provides empty platitudes to pet parents while choosing to prioritize themselves before the pet's needs. I took my dog in after our dogs got into a fight at home. Nothing serious but wanted to get him checked out. He did have a pretty serious gash on his leg near his paw. We arrived just before 5pm. They took him right back, I thought this was a good sign. They told me approximately 3 hours to see a vet and they would call with updates. I call 3 hours later. My dog still had not seen the vet. It's now 8:30. I was told just a few more hours. I called at 11:30. Same situation. No one had checked on him. He was put in a crate with an open gash with no treatment. I called again at 1. Same situation. Still nothing. I fell asleep. Called at 6 am the next morning. To find out my dog. STILL had not been seen. I jumped in my car and went and picked him up know my dogs care was not going to be a priority I hope everyone's animals get the best care. And it will not be at this location read more

My girlfriend went into the vet yesterday for her dwarf hamster and when she went and picked the hamster up it was in a worse condition, at first the one leg didn't work, then we brought her in and when we picked her up she couldn't use both legs. Absolutely awful experience. My pup had been lethargic for a couple days and couldn't keep anything down. After $800 dollars worth of testing they let me know there was a blockage in his small intestine and needed a 5k surgery. It wasn't until I took my pup to the dog shelter vet that they were HONEST and told me that according to the bloodwork there was about a 90% chance he wouldn't make it through the surgery. He had the surgery and didn't make it. Medvet charged me $800 JUST FOR TESTING! Then they weren't honest with me about the severity of the situation, just wow. Have you no integrity? Save yourself a trip and a ton of money, find an honest vet. read more

Took my mom there today to put her 13 year old dog down. They were so kind and compassionate during the entire process. They explained everything throughly and gave us as much time as we needed. I took my kitten there on Sunday evening. They treated him in a couple of hours and gave him some meds for diarrhea and dry heaving. He hadn't had anything to drink in 12 hours and nothing to eat in 24. The next day he was worse - now he hadn't had anything to drink in 24 hours and nothing to eat in 36 hours. The vet tech said "I can see he's so much worse, he's lethargic and really weak. I'll code him as yellow. They'll see in him 2-3 hours. He's only 5 lbs and he's already lost a pound. That's a lot for a guy this little." 14 HOURS LATER - they still had not done anything. I ended up going to my vet who was able to treat him. If they had told me it would be over 14 hours in the first place, I never would have gone here. I can't imagine how long people who were coded as "green" had to wait. read more

MedVet - Sleeping off her eventful afternoon - Veterinarians Near Me - Hilliard, Ohio

I've been to MedVet on a few occasions with my beloved furbaby 'Abby'. I've been to the Worthington location, as well as the Hilliard location, and the Hilliard location by far shines the brightest. I think it's really important to know that Med Vet is an emergency vet service. Just as you would expect a large bill from a regular ER for your own medical issues - Such would be my expectations for Med Vet. If you feel you have an issue where your pet could wait until a check up with your vet, then you really should wait. It's $100 fee just for entering their doors. It was an early Sunday morning - I knew my vet's office would not be open, so my only option knowing the inevitable was here was to take my Abby to MedVet. I won't post the entire story of my day, but just know that the staff there was caring and compassionate from start to end, which is all I would have expected even from my own Vet's office. The staff gave us plenty of time to be with Abby before euthanasia and were compassionate and sympathetic knowing that this process was both overwhelming for myself and my husband. Up until the end and Abby's last breath they made her comfortable and calm. They offered a few different options for handling the body. We went with their cremation option, and they also include keepsakes such as an ink paw print, clipping of fur & clay paw-print with their name printed in it. They outsource the cremation process, but the company that did handle it did a great job and got her ashes processed within a business day. There were so many tears that day, but the process was made easier knowing how compassionate the doctors and assistants were when handling pets. She was always treated well - even with minor injuries, or ailments when we had to visit the 1-3 times over her 11 year span. RIP Abby and thank-you MedVet for caring and taking gingerly care of our old dog! read more

Do not go here they play with your time. I came in with concerns about my kitten and instead of getting me real results after 7 hours of examinations they tell me its one or the other when I ask a simple question it takes them 30 mins to answer they told me i need antibiotics for my cat and all i wanted was a price range but instead they take 40 min. when they call in to tell me shes ready it took them another hour. Do not come here even if its an emergency your cat is better off with you than cash grabbing zero empathy theives theives. with all that said examinations costed around seven hundred but initially was to be $1050 after the $189 for check up. I dont know what I will do with my kitten Nico all i know is shes never coming back to this God forbidden place. read more
