Oh man, I don't even know where to begin! Found this spot all because I typed in "Vegetarian" and it's like Yelp knew I was craving Indian food! Location/ Parking: Vaishnu is definitely a hidden gem in Vallejo because It's sort of tucked away in a not so busy plaza. You also won't have to worry about parking. The place itself is a pretty small restaurant. Ambiance: Mmmm the aroma of the spices and what-not is incredible! I walked inside and I felt even more hungry than I already was. The have a few decorations up; nothing too fancy. Simple is always nice. I'm not sure how long Vaishnu has been around, because the tables and chairs looked a few years old, so hopefully you're not too picky with where you'll sit. What matters is the food! Other than that, they do play, what sounds like, classical Indian music. If I could describe Vaishnu in one word, it would probably be "family." This spot has that welcoming family vibe to it. They do get pretty busy; especially with to go orders. Service: The staff was helpful and friendly. I'm not all that familiar with what exactly certain dishes are, so they were nice enough to explain and give suggestions. They also helped me with pronunciation. They bring out the meals to you, too! The Best Part: I initially came here just to order a Samosa but ended up getting the Samosa Chaat and Chole Bhatura. Yelp reviews about the Samosa are not lies. Trust. It's delectable! Packed with flavor, freshly made and fulfilling. I've been craving a Samosa for months now and Vaishnu's Samosa did the job. The Chole Bhatura is my new fave! On the menu, it is described as a "fried puffed bread," and omg, it was literally bigger than my head. The person next to me slapped it to flatten it then started ripping it apart. So I thought why not do that, too. We deflated the puff and ...omg (again)... the bread itself was just amazing!! It was so thin yet tasted so dense. Absolutely rich in flavor; especially with all of the side sauces given with it. The texture was flaky, a bit greasy, yet it all just melts in your mouth. *Remy from Ratatouille moment* I'm so happy Vallejo is home to Vaishnu Express Cafe! Worst food and customer service! I ordered 2 papdi chaats. However the papdi was greasy and stale. I took it back to the cashier told her about the problem. There was an elderly lady which has NO customer service skills. She kept on denying the problem with her food. She started yelling and accusing me that I ordered so much food and i am full now thats why I am "MAKING THIS UP". I was shocked by her behavior and told her to keep the papdi chaat since its inedible I don't even need the money back at this point. She took the food and threw it in trash right to my face saying muje koi farq nahi parta - it does not affect me by now everyone at the restaurant was looking at what's going on. My family are frequent customers of this place because the food is delicious and service is quick. It's more of a to-go spot but there are a few tables if you need to sit and wait for your order. The food is the star of the establishment and I miss the original staff who worked the front of the house. I am disappointed with a recent experience and agree with another review that the new cashier is not the best. I placed a phone order for pickup and after placing my order I waited for a response like "your order will be ready in ___ minutes" or "your total is ___" but instead she went "hello? Do you have any more questions?" in a rude and stern tone, and after I said no she hung up immediately. That was the entire phone conversation. When I went to pick up the food, there was no one behind the counter. Had to step in the kitchen and call the cook to assist us. I do enjoy this restaurant because the food is worth the value they charge, but the service recently was pretty off-putting so try not to take it so personally. My roommate and I would always come here for takeout pre-COVID. Its a mom and pop shop and the cashier was always super friendly to us. We would order samosa chaat and pani puri. Both entrees were really good. The proportion serves more of a snack rather than a meal but it's decent for its price. Would recommend this place! read more

I'm sure Vaishnu has been in Vallejo for a while now which makes it even more unbelievable that last Sunday was my very first time visiting it. What a shame! And I was definitely missing out. First things first, this cafe serves vegetarian, Indian food only. Don't let that stop you though from visiting cause they're, hands down, one of the best Indian cafes out there. They're known for their samosa. So I got 4 of them. And OMG, it was so tasty and delicious. It was also huge and also only costs 99cents. Say whaaaaat? My order of samosas came with 2 sauces: a green one and a red one. The red one was sweet and was, therefore, my favorite while the green one was a little spicy. I also ordered mango lassi and that too was pretty good. It was sweet and very rich in flavor. VEC deserves 5 stars for their amazing food and for being such a unique cafe. The food here is always incredible. I usually take it to go, as the dining area leaves a bit to be desired. AMAZING authentic food, cooked by an older woman who could probably make this stuff in her sleep. I love that there are often children in the restaurant, too young to help but darling to talk to while you wait! the food is very reasonably priced, and portions are generous. I drive across the bridge to get here, and will very happily continue to do so. I suggest you do the same! I looked up some Indian eateries in the Vallejo area and this is the first one that popped up. Yes, it is a vegetarian restaurant and that is the best part. I arrived and waited a few minutes for the clerk. The clerk finally greets me and is a little stand offish ( I had read this in a previous post ). I then asked her a few questions, she was still being a little weird until I asked her for her name, I then told her why I go by Kam since its a long Indian name. Anyhow, she warmed up and became really nice. I ordered the Samosa Chaat ( $2.99 ), Aloo Tikki ( $2.99) and Dahi Papadi Chaat ($2.99) along with 3 Galab Jamans (75c each) with a total of $11.22 before tax. The food was seasoned well and it brought me back to my roots. The Imlee chutney ( tamarind sauce ) and mint chutney really made the dish shine. Next time I will tell them to put the sauce on the side since it was ordered for takeout it made the dish soggy. However, if your looking for a samosa this place has the best price at 99c. They have plenty of seating and on Sundays they do Masala Dosa and Vegetable Biryani as the specials! read more

Have they changed ownership? I've been ordering the veg korma for over 5 years and it has always been consistent in flavor, texture and ingredients. However today it tasted as if I ordered a tomato. soup from Panera bread. I've never tasted a korma dish so bland and watered down. And certainly never from this place. Based on other reviews it seems it's been a common occurrence lately.
