I really loved this veterinary office. I saw Dr. Howell and she ensured I was able to be with my dog throughout the entire visit, even when he was having imaging done. They bring the machines into your room rather than take your dog where you cannot see what is going on. This was very important to me. The facility is very clean and the staff are very kind. My puppy that we adopted last week had to be hospitalized at VEG with parvovirus for 48 hours. Throughout our entire stay at VEG we received exceptional care from every single staff member that we encountered. They let me stay in the isolation room with my puppy as long as I wanted, and the techs always checked in frequently to see how she was doing, and the veterinarians were lovely every time they came to do an exam. The pricing for the hospital stay was extremely transparent and I truly feel that they are not trying to take advantage of owners as some emergency vet offices do. They provided amazing care for our puppy and she loved everyone she met there. The techs will even send pictures of our puppy to me when I'm not there to update me. The Vet called every morning to tell me how the overnight went. We cannot recommend VEG enough and we are so grateful for them! read more

I was in a small room with no privacy , (there were blinds on the outside that no one felt the need to close for me) when i was trying to visit my baby.In between standing up to comfort her in her cage,i had to take breaks and sit on the hard cold floor, not once did anyone offer me a chair. I was crying and distraught. This place is full of young inexperienced doctors! They were very professional and made an extremely sad situation of having to put my cat down, as painless as it can realistically be. They have a private Room you can go in with comfortable furniture, a bed and blanket for your pet, and blinds for the windows and door. The vets were very knowledgeable and explained what the process of putting her down would be like. They offered different ways of remembering your pet by having several different engraved urns with your pet's name on it. I was also able to choose for her to be cremated individually so that her ashes weren't mixed with other animals' ashes. You may also take the body with you if you intend to do a burial. They left the room when the time came and gave us as much time as we needed with my cat. When they came back in and put her to sleep, they were very kind and let us know when it was over. I have heard horror stories from other places where the pet does not go peacefully due to lack of knowledge in the subject, but these vets knew what they were doing. My cat went very quickly and it was completely painless. They sedated her and then injected the lethal shot within a minute of each other. Afterwards they gave us time to say our goodbyes and offered their condolences. A week later, I received a handwritten note from the staff expressing their apologies along with two notecards that had her real paw prints on them in what appears to be coal. It was a very kind gesture and they eased a lot of my worries going into the euthanasia. I can confidently say that my cat went without pain, and comforted by her environment and the people she loved. She typically hated going to the vets, but she was very calm throughout the entire thing, especially since the vets were so quick and accurate with the shaving of the arm and the injection of the needles. It will always be a sad memory, but they made it a memory that I can look back on without regret, wondering if I should've taken her somewhere else or had it done a different way. I am very appreciative towards the staff here and I would highly recommend anyone who has to go through the awful experience of putting down a pet, to have your pet be in the hands of these vets. Side note: keep in mind that every pet may have a different reaction to the medicine given to them in euthanasia. The vets will explain what can happen, but just know going into it that every animal is different, and some may react to it differently than others. Expect twitches, chest/stomach movement, open eyes, urine/bowel release, and even what appears to be breathing immediately after their passing. This is all normal and should not cause you any confusion or fear. They have passed and it is a bodily reaction. I'm glad I was made aware of these things beforehand, as they could be very worrying reactions if you were not prepared to see them. read more

We took our Dog on a Sunday morning with a broken foot. Obviously the dog was in pain and the staff did a number of things to take care of her issue. Here is my complaint $1,700 dollars later we left with a splint on her leg. This clinic is over charging pet owners who have no choice, in a crisis situation with a beloved pet needing care. Veterinary Emergency Group in Alpharetta is the most amazing place for sick/injured animals. I brought our 1 year old family dog Arthur who was just not himself in and they immediately took care of him and figured out he had ingested a foreign object. He is only 7 lbs so we feared the worst. They worked with us to come up with a plan even though it was beyond our means as we have a child with a liver transplant. Dr Stevens and Dr Corley were angels sent from heaven. They coordinated the surgery and Dr Whitmore even came in on his day off to perform surgery. Everything went exactly how they had hoped and little Arthur was on the road to recovery. His recovery team included Dr. Mckinney and Dr Whalen and their amazing team of Nurses and Support staff. They really treated him as if he was their own and we cannot ever repay them for what they did for our family. After our 5-year old pup started showing signs of distress, similar to what our older dog expired from earlier this year, and after I couldn't get her in to see our regular vet or another vet we'd used over the years, I found VEG in Alpharetta. I called and let them know I was coming and they sent over some initial paperwork via text to prepare for our arrival. We got there and were immediately greeted by a team who began an initial evaluation of my pup. After her vitals were taken, they immediately started her on oxygen because her blood-oxygen was down to 87%. Long story short, our pup was in heart failure. We had no warning and almost no warning symptoms. We ended up losing her about 5 hours later. The staff at VEG was great, despite the terribleness of the situation. They started her on Lasix initially to see if it helped, but when it was clear it was not, they had a very frank, but empathetic conversation with me about what was happening and what we could expect even IF she could pull through that day. Given her quickly declining condition, and no positive long-term prognosis, we made the difficult decision not to resuscitate her if she stopped breathing, but to try and keep her with us long enough for my wife and kids to get there from work and school to say goodbye. At that point, the team at VEG went from "life saving" to "life sustaining" mode. The entire time, a VEG staff person sat there with us, manually controlling her medication to keep her alive and conscious. Once everyone got there and said goodbye, we let our pup go. Days later we got a very nice sympathy card, signed by the entire VEG staff, along with a 5x7 card-stock with our girl's paw-print in green finger paint. It was extremely touching and we will cherish it. It wasn't inexpensive, but I would absolutely go back to VEG in Alpharetta in the future if the need arose. read more

Recently had to bring my baby Princess here after she was diagnosed with pancreatitis at Banfield. She was lethargic and breathing funny so I googled the closest emergency vet to me and VEG was 16 minutes away. As soon as we walked in we were greeted at the door and taken to the back, which was completely open. Every vet I've ever been to, they take your pet to the back and you sit in the waiting room. Not here. You get to see everything. I elected to have her stay overnight and get X-rays, and boy did that COST. So be prepared to fork over some money but the care is top notch. I spoke to the vets via text and phone, they sent me a pic of Princess during the night with an update on how she was. I hope to never have to utilize them again, but if I did, I wouldn't hesitate. I can't say enough good things about VEG. Our dog Arthur had to stay for 3 days there and they provided exceptional care to him. Dr. Horner (Bueller) is kind, compassionate, highly knowledgeable, and easy to talk to. Even after a LONG shift, she still had so much energy and remembered every single detail about all of her patients. The same can be said for all of the incredible vet nurses. They explained his issues thoroughly to us so we understood exactly what was happening with our dog. When he was released, they sent detailed records to our regular vet. So detailed and organized, that the regular vet commented on how wonderful the records they kept were. When it came to our bill, they regularly updated us on the charges/estimate (since he had to stay longer than expected) and provided recommendations on how to cover the costs. Our dog is usually super scared to go to the vet and shakes when he's outside but when he had to go back to VEG for a test our regular vet didn't have, he started to wag his tail and jumped up on the door to get in. Everyone here is amazing. All very friendly, helpful, and it's obvious that they're all passionate about their job! My dog Brian has been here a few times this past month. (Newly diagnosed with diabetes/pancreatitis). The best part is that you can go back into the room with your dog and watch everything happen. At no point are you separated from them. There's nothing worse than handing your dog over to someone to be brought into the back room during a dire situation where you have no clue what's happening - your mind tends to think the worst. Brian stayed overnight once to be monitored and they took great care of him. They will let you stop by and check on your baby as much as you want, and they even have hammocks in the rooms for you to sleep in if you want to stay the night. They take just as good of care of the humans as they do the pets. Highly recommend VEG! read more

My boyfriend and I brought our dog here at 1:40pm with only three other dogs in front of us. We came in for a simple Gl track XRay and some blood work. We left at 6:30pm. For easy math purposes, that means we spent 5 hours waiting on a simple XRay and blood work. Our tests were performed in 20 minutes and we waited for our results, after getting our dog back, for TWO HOURS. I was only given my results after asking the receptionist to go find my vet after waiting so long. After diagnosis and treatment plans were run through and we came to a conclusion (and should have been leaving) we waited on our medications for another two hours. However, staff was kind, and apologetic. Choose another emergency vet if you want to be in and out in less than 5 hours. read more

So this review is going to be long because I just want anyone that's thinking of coming here to reconsider... My two puppies were sick and were getting worse. One of the puppies sadly died but the other was barely holding on. So while panicking, we started looking around for affordable hospitals & our neighbors recommended this place. We rush to the hospital and they immediately take him, put IVs in him, and a couple of other things. So at first everyone was optimistic about everything, we were even told it was a 80% chance that he was going to live (keep that in mind)...But a little after they started to treat my puppy I was told that I was going to have to pay upfront & that they'll have the estimates of everything. It didn't raise any concerns, because I thought it was going to cost but not as much as it did... So we're waiting and one of the workers comes up to us to talk about the prices and the total costs of everything was going to be 11,200! The lady started explaining why it costs that much and literally read everything, even though we really wouldn't understand because we're young and aren't familiar with these things. It really was too much but again our dog is already being treated, more than halfway done with everything at this point and we do not have 11,000 dollars... So I tell them that and they put us in a room to negotiate prices and the whole time I just seen different workers looking at us, ones that weren't even helping out with our dogs too. So now we're uncomfortable and also we're in a bad situation. One of the vets come in and brings it down to 4500, but I was asked to pay the whole thing. At this point I don't have thousands of dollars sitting in my bank account so we didn't know what to do. We were told that there were two different companies, basically loans, that we could apply for to make payment arrangements... But why would we have to apply just to make arrangements when I could just make payment arrangements without the extra? So at this point the "80% chance of him surviving" soon turned into "20%" because they knew that we couldn't pay the thousands of dollars. But that's not the only thing that upset me, it's the fact that the vet came in & was like "every now and then we like to give stuff out for free..." and I'm thinking "Oh wow, their going to help us with him and spare us the headache"... NO they literally used that as an "okay you're not going to have to pay for what we did but you have to leave" and sent us home with him... His health declined as soon as we left the building and had to go back to put him down... The lady was very nice but honestly I wish I would've went somewhere else because he would still be here. He had severe parvovirus and I understand the risks that vets have to take, but 11,200??? I just don't know what else to say. They are very good with animals but the prices are crazy, and it's like they don't accommodate to people that aren't making 6 figures... Rip Bruno read more

We have visited a friend and unfortunately our baby Bruno became sick so we brought him for emergency assessment of his hives, vomiting and diarrhea. A staff attended to us a few minutes after we got in and we have seen the Vet few minutes thereafter. The Dr offered and explained 2 group of treatment/diagnostic options that she recommended including those that were really needed so we were given the freedom to choose from an expensive/thorough route to a more affordable/doable one to at least address our concerns. we don't live in the area so we were advised to just ff up with Bruno's primary vet and we were able to check out an hour after. DVM Jessica Corley was beyond amazing. I'm beyond myself as I attempt to convey my feeling about her overall demeanor and bedside manor as I needed to end my 18 year old dog's life. I have what I call a black-lady-doggie-doc in my family already, in another state. Doctor Jessica was even more professional and comforting when facilitating my first pet euthanasia ever in my life (which can be jarring). She definitely reminded me of my family Doc. At the time of this post, my family doesn't know Doctor Corley's preference of identification. I just call her amazing. I ended up euthanizing my older cat the same week just two days later at Animal Hospital of Towne Lake but it was not seemingly as professional. I have learned (from what Dr. Corley verbally stated to me) that each animal will exhibit very unique behaviors during euthanasia. The other hospital did not exhibit as much communication. Dr. Jessica was thorough as could be so it was her days-previous words that aided my process at another clinic. I think my cat-mom (affectionately called) knew I finally saw her in dire need of my help but didn't have time to get back to Veterinary Emergency Group that final day of her life here. I'd like to acknowledge here that Corley is someone I can only hope to see again for my other geriatric pets. I only present this post hoping to promote her as an awesome Doctor that makes challenging times with loved ones that much easier. read more

She had a deep puncture wound from another dog, and I was in that frazzled state that happens when your pet is hurt. Had to have my anxious aggressive terrier mix hospitalized with pancreatitis. He was definitely a handful, but staff at VEG were extremely caring and helpful in spite of his antics. Dr Howell, Lin, Alicia, Meghan, Christina, Alli, Mary Cathryn, McKinney, Becca--all of them super with my dog! Very attentive and concerned for his comfort and well-being. I had been to Blue Pearl in the past with emergencies. After this experience, I won't go back. Hands on care from owner is encouraged at VEG, which makes a huge difference in pet/patient response. Can't say enough about the experience at VEG! They are GREAT! The facility is clean and well furnished in spite of the hospital kennel atmosphere. I highly recommend VEG for your pet emergencies. We lost our sweet Lacey this weekend, and Dr Corley and her team were just amazing. They didn't know us & never treated Lacey in her 14 years- but greeted us at the door and welcomed us early Saturday morning with open arms, and treated us like family or Royalty. Sweet Lacey was in such pain and they wasted no time addressing her needs and our worry. In a private room, we evaluated the results and options and made the toughest decision. Dr Corley guided us and was with us the whole time, while the ENTIRE family came to say goodbye. She cried with us and gave us privacy when needed and talked us thru every step, while we all held our sweet Lacey and said goodbye. It was the most peaceful passing, BECAUSE of Dr Corley. Her entire team was empathetic, supportive and catered to our every need, and wrapped our sweet girl in a blanket and cared for her after. I am FOREVER grateful for the QUICK service, gentle touch and education we got from this amazing staff. They are well trained, efficient and in a state of the art facility. The staff here is very friendly and courteous and encourages pet owners to visit their pets and/or call about them at any time, day or night. This aspect of my experience with Veterinary Emergency Group was great. I've never experienced nicer attitudes by the staff at any pet emergency facility I've been to over the years. I would give them a 5 for their friendly and positive attitude. The reasons for why I have given a 3 rating are: - After an early Sunday am surgery on my dog at this facility, we still were not sure what was going on since they didn't find the small obstruction that appeared on x-rays. So, the assumption at this time was that she must have passed the obstruction. However, based on her condition, there was still some doubt about what was causing her pain and discomfort. Since one of the vets there had briefly mentioned an internal medicine doctor, I asked if they felt they should refer my dog to a specialist for further evaluation. I called 2-3 times during the day after the surgery and asked about this, but they avoided the question. I never got an answer to this question. If they felt the issue had been solved, all they would have had to do was to tell me whether or not they felt I needed to see a specialist. Why was that hard? - When I picked my dog up, they handed me a bag with a bottle of pills and a folder of paperwork and basically said goodbye. No one went over discharge instructions, which I have never experienced before. As usual with any emergency veterinarian visit, the discharge instructions were provided in the folder they provided. However, I have never experienced such a nonchalant attitude about my pet's care upon leaving the facility. - No pain meds given upon leaving. When I got home and went through the bag I left the facility with, I found pills for nausea but no other pills. Since my dog had a serious surgery with an incision all the way down her underside, pain medication should definitely have been provided. I ended up taking my dog to my regular vet the next day because she was still in tremendous pain, and she would not eat or take the nausea pills I had been given. She was hospitalized there all day and was given fluids and pain meds, and upon discharge, my vet provided an additional medication that she thought would heal what she felt the cause of the illness might be. I took her back a couple of times in the following days for fluids and recheck. Fortunately, she began eating and feeling better with the additional meds. In hindsight, it's obvious she should have had additional meds upon discharge to support her recovery, or she should have received further veterinary care. - I called this facility the following day to find out why I left with no pain meds. One of the veterinarians there talked to me and said I should have had pain medication upon discharge, and she was going to investigate why that happened and follow up with me later that day. I never heard from anyone again. No one even called in the days after discharge to check on my dog's condition. Other ER facilities over the years have always called at least once after discharge to see how the pet was doing. - Very high prices compared to other pet ER facilities. I have had numerous experiences with pet emergencies over the years, and I have taken pets to various animal emergency facilities including Blue Pearl and UGA. A few years ago, I had a dog that had to have emergency surgery on her spine in the wee hours on a Sunday morning by a veterinary neurologist at Blue Pearl. She was there in ICU for a few days, and the total price, including the surgery, was not as high as I paid for my dog's time at this facility, which began on Saturday around 7AM and went through Monday at around 3PM. I know emergency visits are always expensive, but I've never encountered anything like this. It appears that my pet health insurance company may even question the charges. My understanding from the staff is that this facility opened in June, so I'm sure they are still working on protocols. It's obvious they have some issues with discharge protocols as well as with how to provide direct answers to pet owners' questions and follow up with pet owners. If based only their kindness and great attitude, I would take my dog there again. However, with the exorbitant price, plus the lack of discharge care and attention, I would not go back. read more

You would think people who care for animals for a living would have a ounce of compassion. I mean seriously a serial killer shows more remorse than their staff. It took them more than 30 minutes to even acknowledge us while my dog was in a life threatening situation. Then when I began to ask questions to try and get a better understanding of what's going on the nurse ask if I would like to speak to the doctor so I said yes and in return he replied with "thanks for holding me up " but their insensitive ness did not stop there when I was told I would have to put my dog down and literally balling my eyes out they didn't even give me a minute to process before letting me know what the bill would come out to.
