I had a very similar experience as another reviewer (post in May): recently, a neighbor alerted me to an injured puppy on the side of the road. After an awful day of trying to get him care at 2 other emergency vets, I wound up at VEG where he was promptly treated and cared for. I was welcomed by the intake tech into a large room where all pets were being treated and seen immediately without filling out any paperwork, no waiting in a queue or a lobby to be seen. You are there with your pet the entire time while the vet techs administer treatment (start IVs, draw labs, ultrasound etc). They do not take your pet away behind closed doors or away from the owner (with the exception for X-rays and surgery). You can see what they are doing, ask questions and physically be there to comfort your pet (not wait alone in an exam room wondering what's going on). Dr. DiVore ordered the street pup some pain meds, xrays, US, and splinted his leg, then recommended several vets for the amputation surgery. Unfortunately, I needed emergency vet services again about a month later for my own kid Mario. Based on my experience, of course I went back to VEG. Dr. Lang confirmed what I feared and it was all-hands-on-deck with Dr. Parkinson, an intern and Dr. Lang while performing a thoracentesis (draining of chest fluid) on my Mario. I was right there with him the whole time and he did so great! I'm happy to say with follow-up care for medications, he's doing wonderful 6 weeks later! More energy than he's had in a year! If I am ever in need of emergency vet services, this is the ONLY vet I will go to! read more

We had a horrible experience with a vastly overly aggressive treatment that my dog didn't need, by a condescending vet. While cutting mats out of my dog Saturday night, my wife cut her skin. Although she wasn't bleeding, we took her to VEG. The vet said she needed staples. They shaved her leg, and the vet said the staples in the gun were too big and went to find the right size. She couldn't, so she used the oversized staples and set her up with a cone, pain meds, and a $400+ bill. By the time we got home, one staple was gone, and the other was parallel to the cut, not across it, so it was completely ineffective. We took her back to VEG. The assistant took her in the back, then brought her back with her leg bandaged, saying the wrap would fall off on its own the next day. It didn't come off, so we took it off and discovered the vet had not replaced the staples or done anything but wrap her leg to conceal the one that was still parallel to the cut. Monday we took her to our vet. He said the cut was minor and didn't need stitches or staples at all, that she was not in pain and didn't need pain meds or a cone. Our dog was unnecessarily traumatized and overmedicated. He removed the useless, parallel staple, glued the cut, and sent her home without a cone, bandage, or medicine. We're protesting the charges and will never darken the doors of VEG again. read more

After a ruff night, and up and ready to find urgent care at 6:45am, babe found VEG on google and despite being 25 minutes away we decided to bring our baby Nuggz in. An elder boy, he had recently had another seizure, despite so many "clear" tests our vet (VCA) never found a specific issue and we were left with "recommendation of ultrasound to look for cancer"... that was just two weeks ago, then we started noticing worrisome signs like hyper boney lower spine, major incontinence and loss of appetite on the last day. We were greeted by nurse Jessica, Nugget slept on my lap and then Dr. Conner came in, they checked his heart and lungs and we ultimately decided on hospitalization with IV fluids and antibiotics. We had to run errands but when we came back he was alert and awake. Deep down I knew if he refused food and we decided to take him home we would just be selfishly buying ourselves one more uncomfortable night where he was mostly drugged just to stay out of pain. Dr. Conner eloquently explained everything we already suspected and after a few more tears we knew it would be best to help him pass in peace there. We asked if we could hang out in the sunlight for a little while and she expressed her support and empathy and explained everything she would do to prepare and carry out our wishes. There was a security guard outside (Rashawna??) who encouraged us to take photos (ironically I wasn't going to), and she later sant a hymn, and even offered a German shepherd puppy and prayed with us... although he had to have his IV replaced, after being brought back to us, I sang in his ear, kissed his head and he drifted off to sleep just as she initiated the process. As the sedation set in, she gave the final fluid and confirmed he was gone, he let out one last exhale and she took him inside. We opted for cremation and requested a snippet of his precious ivory tail hair. Despite this heartbreaking situation we couldn't have asked for a more peaceful and helpful team of professionals to be there with us through it all, noticing the majority of the staff is female I have to say I am proud to know the #futureisfemale and they prove that here. Our baby didn't make it. She snuck out and was hit by a car. I'm pretty sure she passed before we arrived. My 13 year old daughter was having panic attacks and not doing well. They administered CPR to our pup and gave us time to process the trauma. We were put in a private room while they cleaned her up. They wrapped her in a blanket and brought her in so we could say goodbye. They were so kind and considerate. They agreed to keep her comfortable and let me come back the next morning to make arrangements since it was late and we were upset. The private cremation was affordable. It will be 7-10 days before it's complete. I understand that they will provide a clay mold of her paw print. Our sweet Pixie is gone but they honored her life and her passing. Thank you read more

While the prices are high, I appreciated the quality of service. I was able to speak with the vet with ease. I don't recall his name, but he's extremely knowledgeable and speaks to you directly while checking your fur baby and makes you feel at ease by answering any concerns you may have. My girl was having bloody diarrhea and it freaked me out. He explained it's common in dogs. We did an X-ray and IV. Everything came out fine. I did take her to get a full health panel to be done by her Primary Vet and everything was normal. She was on some antibiotics and has made a full and speedy recovery. I cannot say enough about this place. My 2 year old Pomeranian ate a pacifier and it got stuck in her intestines. Hillside recommended VEG for emergency surgery and I was so worried. Simon, our favorite cat - the kid's emotional support cat - developed a urinary blockage on Saturday. We took him to VEG and they immediately got Simon out of pain (thank you morphine) and then walked me through everything that would need to be done to save him. When I almost fainted at the cost, they found a way to help with that as well, so that we weren't forced to consider euthanasia because of money. We got to watch everything they did for Simon. Being a nurse, it was really cool to see Simon get intubated and placed on a ventilator and get an epidural. They offered to bring in a cot if we wanted to spend the night. They've called and texted updates multiple times a day. And when we've visited, Simon has been clean and loved on. He gets to come home tomorrow, and I'm so grateful he's survived. read more

Where should I start? From the moment I called VEG to the time we left we were treated amazingly. We were referred by our vet for an emergency with our cat Salem. I called them and was told to come right over and they would be ready for us. They did not lie. As soon as we walked in the door we were taken into the treatment area. And, this was definitely an amazing area. It is an Emergency Room with multiple treatment areas set up. Each one is well stocked, clean and efficient. Having been a first responder in EMS I was extremely impressed with the set up. We were handed off to Sarah. Sarah informed us that she would be handling us and anything we needed. The first thing she did was check to make sure the care needed was not emergent with Salem. She then started taking care of my daughter and myself. She asked if we needed anything water, drink or a snack. She then explained how the care would be given. She informed us that we could stay with Salem the entire time even if that meant staying overnight. They would set up a sleeping area for us so we did not have to leave. WOW!! I was even informed that if I wanted to stay with Salem if any surgeries were needed I could do that as well. The other thing that impressed me right away was the fact that as soon as we went back to the treatment area the person walking us back made everyone in the room aware that a new patient had arrived and was needing to be triaged. Dr. Morton then came in and introduced himself. He made us feel at ease immediately. We explained the condition and he took his time examining Salem. He did an ultrasound and a physical examination. This took more than he could do himself so he immediately called for some additional help. Immediately there were two more techs in the room with us that were just as professional as Dr. Morton. I am just sorry I can not remember their names. We were able to bring Salem home with us. I can not say "Thank You" enough to this amazing staff!! On the morning of 10/11/24, I rushed in with my 12-year-old chiweenie who had been vomiting terribly and could not keep anything down. The staff immediately jumped in and attended to my pup. I was able to stay by my dog through everything and the staff's communication was truly comforting. I wasn't just sitting in a waiting room pacing back and forth. Sadly, my little guy did not make it and passed away. The compassion and kindness shown by the staff during this heartbreaking time were unparalleled. I am incredibly grateful for their support. Animals, like children don't get hurt just during bankers hours; thank goodness for 24 hour emergency veterinary care, however not all are equal. I was referred to Veterinary Emergency Group by another 24 hour emergency clinic, who were confident they could give my chihuahua immediate care, and save her eye. I knew I had arrived to the right location from the moment I walked through their emergency room doors. As told, Rupaul was given immediate attention, and love from the moment Dr. Evelyn Elizabeth Lake, and the medical staff laid eyes on us. Dr. Lake Evaluated, and diagnosed her quickly. Her knowledge of her injury and the number of similar surgeries she had successfully performed in the past, saving not only the eye, but also sight, gave me confidence she was the right surgeon to perform the procedure. Veterinary Emergency Group's emergency room layout filled me with a sense of calm. I was able to sit with, and hold Rupaul through her entire procedure until it was time to operate, and even then I was given the option to be right there. I believe having me right there had a therapeutic effect on her too. The staff took the time to explain what was happening through every step of the procedure, and what I needed to do to care for her at home. I was encouraged to return at any moment I felt something wasn't right, or just wanted reassurance she was healing properly. I must admit, I didn't check to see what the procedure would cost somewhere else, because at that moment it wasn't important to me, and many reading this probably would feel the same. "We had an exceptional experience at the Veterinary Emergency Group aka VEG located @ 4500 N Central Expressway! Dr. Marisa & Nurse Tosha were incredibly attentive and knowledgeable, providing Top-Tier Care for our cat. Their bedside manner was very amazing as our cat was so calm throughout the entire examination. We had a chance to meet and chat with the other doctors and nurses there, and everyone was so kind and eager to answer questions. What amazed me was how great everyone at VEG treated us and the other clients there. These guys really care about what they do. They show care to the customers, and again, they listen and answer any questions without rushing you. The care that they give to their furry patients is quite amazing. After our visit was complete, they gave us a couple of treatment plan choices. One was very reasonable and included medication to get our cat on the path to recovery. The second choice given to us was a bit costly, and Nurse Tosha recommended that we find a primary veterinarian and that the cost would be much less for the additional care recommendations. In this day and age, you don't see this kind of thorough, honest customer service. It is quite refreshing. They could have easily told us we needed to do these things. And we would've believed them. so it is clear to me that they have integrity and do business in an ethical manner. On the way out, we met Sky, Customer Experience Mgr. (CXM). She thanked us for our business and ensured that we were completely informed and had all the things we needed before we left the building. We are truly grateful for the wonderful care and professionalism shown by the ENTIRE TEAM! My hope is that no one would ever have to make this kind of trip to an emergency room for their pet, as it is very stressful and of course you love your pet.You don't want anything to happen to your pet. I will be forever thankful to the wonderful staff here. No one expects or wants to have to take their sweet baby to the ER but they made the experience more than I could ask for. We arrived at midnight with a pup who had consumed a whole bottle of human medication and even though they were busy, the staff made sure we taken care of and treated with the proper care. We brought in our dog after she was attacked by another dog, and the service was amazing. We had Dr. McDonald, and Katie the Vet Tech, who were both just absolutely outstanding. Even when they were low on space, they literally sat on the floor with us and tended to us in the waiting room, and explained every little movement. We had to leave our baby for surgery from around 2am to 8am and they called us as soon as they were finished. I also thought the procedure was going to be way more expensive then it was, but it was actually very reasonably priced. The ER vet visit by itself was $175 if you're curious. My sweet small black cat was attacked by a dog. She was bleeding from her forearm and after she let me hold her I discovered she had no movement and could put no pressure on it. I called and they allowed me to start the paperwork part of it from a text link so that when I got there they already knew what was going on. Because she was bleeding pretty bad, they took me to a room where I was able to hold her for the vet to do a brief diagnosis. We hung out comfortably in the room until she returned with a quote. As I expected emergency services are quite expensive. But aren't they all? The staff comforted me from the moment I walked in. They kept my baby to clean up the room ran x-rays, bloodwork, checking for nerve damage, while I left to go get cleaned up at home. They asked me if I had taken care of the cat scratches on my hands. Just soap and water I told them. They sent me home with a little care package to take care of all the deep scratches on my hands. 100% customer service. So very impressed with this clinic. read more

Took my dog here at 4 am after nonstop vomiting all night. Can I just say, I need whatever the staff is taking to be so cheerful and helpful at that hour of the day. I was so out of it and stressed and everyone who worked there was so lovely and understanding. My nose started bleeding I'm assuming from the stress of dealing with a sick dog and a nurse immediately got me tissues and was so kind and made it a funny situation. The vet that saw my dog broke down my two options, explained the cheaper treatment option and the more expensive investigative option, and even encouraged me to do the cheaper option and then observe my dog at home to see if anything else came up, which I really appreciate because I feel as though a lot of vets use shame as a tactic to get you to pick the more expensive services. I hope to never have to go to an emergency vet again, but if I do I will definitely go straight to VEG read more

I got home from work and found my sweet 7 year old dog had been very sick. It was 15 mins before all the vet offices were closing and none of them would see my baby girl. I hated the idea of going to an ER but knew she was get worse. This was my first ER experience so I called around first. I was informed of crazy high prices and 2-3 hour wait times. When I called Veterinary Emergency Group the lady was amazing at answering all my questions. I ran to the car and took off the the vet. The parking was full but they had plenty of parking down the side street. We went into a full lobby. We were checked in with in 5 mins and before I got too comfortable they brought us to the back room. Everyone that walked by my dog would stop and give her some loves. Dr. Parkinson did an amazing job keeping me informed about what they will be doing and how long it should take to get answers. We had to get a medical procedure done. I loved that they allowed me to be by my dogs side the whole time. At the end we got answers and medications. After paying a reasonable amount for an ER visit, several employees wanted to come and say goodbye to my sweet girl. Hopefully I will never have to come back but it I need the service this will be the place we go. read more

Dr. Parkinson explained the treatment plan to the T, the labs he was drawing and what he was looking for, possible diagnosis and pricing before proceeding. He showed me the physical signs and symptoms he was concerned about and showed findings in an ultrasound performed live in front of me. He had a very professional demeanor, a balance of compassion, concern and explaining everything without sugar coating or being harshly blunt. Aimee the tech had prior knowledge/handling of my pet from previous employment at my regular vet and treated him with comfort & care. This made me feel more comfortable and lowered my anxiety & stress. My pet ended up having a bad prognosis (terminal) which my regular vet didn't catch with my visit 2 days prior, 2 weeks prior, or 1 month prior. VEG gave me options but also gave their recommendation of euthanasia based on surgical expenses, poor quality of life and increased potential for relapse. Even though my visit ultimately resulted in devastating news I knew that he was cared for, felt all my concerns were addressed, validated and not jacked around prolonging my cat's miserable state. The only downside to VEG is that since it is an emergency vet it is very expensive. But if you have a real emergency and want to be seen ASAP and get compassionate treatment and the opportunity to be present the entire time with your pet... At a time of pet health crisis, I depended on Yelp reviews to choose an emergency vet, so I want to pay it forward and add my 5 stars for VEG. I have nothing but praise for the staff and doctors at this location. From the first call, we were welcomed and our sick kitty was treated with the highest level of care. Our journey included surgery and a several-day stay which was made so much easier with update calls from the vets and the ability to visit in person at any time. Over the week we were there, I believe we met every doctor and most of the staff and techs and couldn't be more impressed and grateful for the level of care and support. Called ahead to see about a wait time for my dog who had allergies and was scratching incessantly. the tech rightly informed me there was no wait. We got triaged right away and eventually saw Dr. Newsome. She is very nice and professional as were the techs. It took a little while to get to the meds my dog needed but there was another dog in there that had more serious issues so it was understandable. Once we got the meds (my dog needed sedation and then had to wake up) we were good to go. It's pricey but we got seen right away and got professional meds and take home meds and the care and compassion were great. I'll go back if I we have another emergency. read more

Raced to VEG after my bloodhound woke with panting. He had earlier eaten a HUGE amount of cheese off the counter earlier in the evening. Fearing bloat, we made our way. Dr Nina and the team greeted us and quickly x rayed and determined it was NOT bloat. Fantastic service and while I hope to never need their services again, I will sleep better knowing they are there. I can not say enough good things about this new emergency clinic. I had to take my 12 year old maltipoo in after she threw up some carpet pieces and wasn't being herself. I felt like her care was prompt and thorough. Everyone was so sweet with her. I was in agreement with everything they suggested for her and did end up coming back up after the first couple of times because she wasn't eating or drinking yet. Dr. Devro and Dr. Parkinson saw her and both treated her with car. The layout of this clinic is so nice because you get to stay with your pet and it provides an open environment so that you are really involved. As I was there I also saw the care given to other animals that were there which impressed me as well.
